new band name, new lp, the former max graef band toured and worked on new music all year. musical progress, and the impression of not enough edge and rawness in a lot of recent music, inspired and motivated a majority of the recording. the band has grown as a unit and wrote a lot of material together this year in late night sessions. during 2 weeks of recording the new songs in the studio the goal was to try all sorts of instruments, amps and effects and be open to any combination of sounds. furthermore, they and engineer lutz fahrenkrog-petersen tried to capture and maintain the raw feeling of the live recordings using almost exclusively analog pedals and racks as well as keeping the editing of the recordings to a minimum. although bands like et cetera (wolfgang dauner), embryo or xhol have heavily infuenced max graef and his band, the result turned out very original ranging from distorted jazz-rock to experimental soul, electronic percussion workouts to free sound experiments and psychedelic rock. with some tracks being around 14 minutes long, it is better to let the music speak for itself though.

after blessing wolf with a fantastic remix of mr. fries on wolfep033, hodini steps up for a full ep on the label. having started out producing hip hop alongside retrogott, the mpc addict has been turning his hand to more uptempo grooves in the past few years having released music on max graef & glenn astro s money $ex records & damiano von erckert s ava. the hip hop influences can be heard throughout the ep with the two a side cuts primed for the dance with their heavy soul and jazz sampled grooves. the flip features the hip hop beat, represent right here & the ep rounds off with the mid tempo collab with hade, parashutes.

originally founded by kisk back in 2009 apparel music set out to offer something truly singular in focusing their musical output predominately on jazz whilst venturing into its integration across the landscape of electronic music at the time.with a zealous release schedule, they racked up a healthy collection of eps between 2010-2015 from artists such as delano smith, scsi-9, sarp yilmaz and the label owner himself amongst many others. now after a year-long hiatus, the label makes a return with a slick 4-track va that fans both old and new will relish. strictly limited to a pressing of 200 on 180 grams of wax, their re-launch brings with it a jazz-suffused 4-track record featuring voyeur, ivano tetelepta & eugeÌne latumeten, kisk and kerem akdag. voyeurs swinging for theo kicks things off with organic, brushed drums and a walking bass line set off to a tight, swaying rhythm. glassy rhodes keys bleed into the mix ahead of piano stabs and 909 hats that propel progress when combined with a thickened low-end. ivano tetelepta & eugeine latumeten follow up with je suis reconnaissant a bass-heavy groove that lays soulful vocal samples over filtered piano chords and loose-limbed hat patterns. kisks just u then drives a crackly drum loop through distant, flexing synth tones. arresting vocal samples then take the foreground in a rich, smokey mix before istanbuls kerem akdags closes up the package. akin to the styles of producers such as henry wu and max graef, akdags friend melds playful drum patterns with thick chord stabs and smooth vocal lines that wrap up a stellar return for apparel music.

as a first follow up to his acclaimed 2012 jr plankton release, plankton teamed up with robert defcon and produced an astounding collage of european and afroamerican sounds, vocals and rhythms, both psychedelic and bass heavy. licensed to groove, the 5 tracks on oh babe merge the sonically improbable – highlighted by the artificial landscape of armin linkes cover photo and max da artwork. when krauts rausch (german for intoxication or noise) you know theyre onto a winner: the fresh new release opens with a sizzling drone ascending the throne of psychedelic sequencer rock. the title tune oh babe injects screwed, subtly lewd funk vocals into a slo-mo, yet ecstatic disco anthem, underscored by a pulsating filter funk bass, while bass n hippies and get up fuse deep progrock killer grooves with raunchy vocoder rap and funky turntable scratching, which will have you on your feet for sure. after a night out dancing, the final track, jealousy, evokes a scenery of solitary paranoia, both chilled out and chilling. defcon and plankton are connected by years of friendship and a dedication to minimalistic grooves and collage techniques in the tradition of stockhausen and can and the turntable and sampling culture of early hip hop.

sdx is the producer alias of our resident dj beni, who delivered finest detroit techno for our catalogue number 008. catalogue number 009 comes with special remixes by legend rolando, known from labels like ostgut ton, underground resistance or deslin & max durante, known from sonig groove & diffuse reality. the original track the day she asks for forgiveness is a slowly building percussive 808 banger, built around a short vocal sample. rolando comes with a special minimalistic dj tool track. we are sure this remix will find place in lots of dj sets. max durante comes with a straight forward techno remix in his best own style. the third and last track of the record is a special bonus breakbeat track made by sdx himself. clitchy sounds and a special mood will bring you directly into another dimension. be prepared

10 years ago the29nov films was started in a small village in southern germany. thousands of videos and millions of views later sebastian kökow and kevin paschold have become one of the most sought after video producers in electronic music - mostly for industrial-leaning techno, but also for all other kinds of electronic music. to celebrate their 10th anniversary the29nov has finally gathered a few of their favourite artists and they all have contributed to a compilation, which will be released on 2 double 12-es, one out in november 2016, the other one to follow soon.

pop ambient - our longest-running compilation series after total - sees a new instalment for 2017, featuring exclusive material from acclaimed genre veterans and series newcomers jens-uwe beyer, yui onodera & scanner, max wÜrden, leandro fresco, thore pfeiffer, kenneth james gibson and soulsavers remixed by wolfgang voigt.

after a considerable career releasing on numerous labels, as well as being co-founder of essen based label mild pitch, langenberg finally drops his first album under this alias. max heesen, (who is also one half of ribn with manuel tur) delivers the smartly titled central heated house for steve bug’s dessous recordings. the lp format suits langenbergs hypnotic house classicism well, allowing time and space to stretch out the grooves and moods over four sides of vinyl working both for the djs and perfect as a soundtrack for the autumn. the lp kicks off with jade, a melancholic, tape saturated introduction to langenbergs deep tastes. room 210 maintains this atmosphere, with fizzing percussion and warm detroit-esque melodies. groove 26 is perfectly timed for the hot summer, as lush rhodes chords and kdj style vocal snippets provide the heat for the openair vibes. the single from earlier this year shadows features the talents of vocalist blakkat, and caused some serious response when it hit airwaves and dancefloors alike. never worry is a heads down roller, built around a simple but perfectly executed bassline, while dreamliner is trippy laidback sunshine house all the way. ill be late and planitz proposal step back into the club, with langenbergs signature crisp percussion, crunchy hits and analog synth wizardry on full display. rain & roses closes out the album in a similar way to how it started wistful, thoughtful house music with soul.

hard ton, italy s extravagant duo of all things house music are back on luv shack records, unleashing six steaming hot tracks on the -queer nation ep- - a precursor to the first full hard ton album that is due for 2017. -queer nation- has singer max swapping his falsetto with a dark mangled voice, reciting names of queer icons over a dry acid house track that rejoices in repetition, and rightly so. classic music head honcho luke solomon s remix of -queer nation- builds up an intense 707 drum pattern, underlining rhythm guitars and max s voice, ending in a bold acid climax. italian newcomers younger than me also take on -queer nation-, marrying an early 80 s wave touch with a classic house approach.

the ongoing celebration of kontra-musik s 10 years anniversary is basically a recognition of the importance of charisma within the predominantly mechanical sphere of electronic music. to quote label boss ulf eriksson in a recent groove interview: -to release on kontra you need to have developed a unique and personal sound.
