back down on my knees is a raw house cut combining a pounding bass drum and clever percussion reminiscent of a late 00 s new york sound with washed synths. i m amazed offers an ambient track lead by a simple piano interlaced with a field recording taken on a subway platform in new york. on the other side rubber jam is a tough hardware jam with a floaty arpeggiated synth line. here will be blood rounds the ep out relying on percussion to drive the track with breakbeat and a heavy bassline.

in 2017, the finnish jazz scene seems to bubble with talent. one of the most prominent players in this mix is by definition, trumpeter jukka eskola. after over a decade of adventures in different spaces of jazz – from the dance floor burn of the five corners quintet to the raw expressive modes of mikko innanen’s small big band, jimi tenor’s cosmic jazz and his own prime cti styled solo recordings – eskola takes things back to bare basics. and as usual, when it’s done right, it’s the best thing out there.

seasoned memory athletes will no doubt recall the turbo’s past affiliation with the former soviet union (proxy, tiga tigayevich khristorozhdestvensky), and recent geopolitical developments have prompted the label to once again hedge its bets. our a&r team spent countless hours sifting through layer after layer of russian underground music, a shocking amount of which turned out to be fake soundcloud accounts from producers based in florida. in fact, our best intelligence suggests that dimitri veimar may be the only person making music in russia today. for the 30 minutes a day he is not trading in politically moderate twitter-bot futures, veimar produces dark, raw-dog electro. he has already released music with omnidisc and renate, so it makes little sense to us why we have to communicate with him via a mole in the canadian embassy in moscow, which is further complicated by the fact that the mole is also an aspiring dj/producer whom we have to keep happy at all costs. you have no idea how much has been sacrificed in order to shield you from the realpolitik of international dance music.

medical records presents the third release in our transfusions 12- singles series. certain creatures (born oliver chapoy) currently resides in brooklyn, ny but has a career dating back to the early 90 s. he has roots in the miami hardcore scene that evolved into post-rock and even electronic pop (warm ghost). he began exploring electronics as certain creatures in 2013 with a 12- on styles upon styles with guest vocals from stuart argabright which led to oliver producing the 2014 black rain comeback record on blackest ever black. in 2015, oliver created a lush and enthralling lp vipassana, also released on styles upon styles. for this particular release for transfusions, oliver sought to step out of his production bias comfort zone by recording live takes with minimal editing and production in order to maintain a dirty, raw, haze-filled warehouse aesthetic. mission accomplished! the 12- contains 5 tracks total of uncompromising techno which we are ecstatic to unleash on the world. presented on classic 160gram black vinyl in our transfusions 12- sleeve. mastered by martin bowes at the cage studios, uk. crucial material for fans of surgeon, regis, as well as labels such as downwards, mote-evolver, and the like.

the seventh instalment in the rhythm nation series is by the uk producer isaac reuben. these jams are rough, raw and ready. they bear the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed signature of someone untarnished by exposure yet betray a complete vision and total control of the craft.

subb-an and adam shelton may be plenty busy with their own endeavours, but they still know how to bring it home to roost on their own one records. this time around they ve both turned to the same vocalist, isis salam, to deliver some insistent instruction atop their lean and mean productions. subb-an s -self control- is a cool and deadly workout that places the emphasis on the bass and places salam s classic speech at the front of the mix. shelton gets into a more jacking frame of mind on -only now-, whipping up a raw chicago flavour to devastating effect.

robin de wolf delivered us three solid tracks under his new alter ego robert d . while un ni yo is a house track with a wavy sound and affective synths, the second a-sided track dommel is a banger that begins with a smooth intro that changes over into hard kicks and raw bass chords. on the b-side, you can find a more melancholic uptempo track that goes by the name of white s wisdom. interstellar funk tops it all off with a remix of un ni yo that combines the wavy sound of the original with synth-heavy electronics. an absolutly killer ep!

french producer and dj john jastszebski has been involved in the french and global underground house and techno scene for over a decade now, releasing on imprints such as d’julz’ bass culture, phil weeks’ robsoul, syncrophone recordings and of course phonogramme where he returns to here. the original mix of lead track ‘season’ takes the lead via infectious stab sequences, snaking subs and raw organic percussion before kai alce’s ‘restructure’ of ‘season’ follows and tips the focus over to airy chords, jazz-tinged lead melodies and a bumpy rhythmic swing. illusion’ follows and sees jastszebski focus on a more stripped-back aesthetic with rolling drums, dusty string samples and warm rhodes driving the composition. ‘gracelend’ then closes the package with smooth, unfolding pad melodies, crunch drum sounds and a murky, hypnotic feel.
