we welcome jerome hill with his stomping acid monster mole hole acid plus an insane remix from auto sound city. pressed on a one-sided, hand stamped and numbered standard weight black vinyl release. accompanied by a printed info sheet insert.

die geschichte von -ton steine scherben in dub- begann vor 20 jahren. nach zwei aufsehenerregenden kompilationen des damals noch jungen labels echo beach, die ein schlaglicht auf das britische und internationale dub-schaffen der mittneunziger warfen, sollte sich -king size dub volume 3- auf deutschland konzentrieren. neben den toten hosen, fantastischen vier und nina hagen dachte man dabei auch an die scherben. so kam es zu einem ersten treffen mit r.p.s. lanrue, dem ehemaligen scherbengitarristen und musikalischen nachlassverwalter der band. dadurch landete eine version von -mole hill rockers- auf dem sampler. und dann passierte erst mal nichts mehr. bis labelchef nicolai beverungen zwei seiner dub-spezialisten, nämlich fe wolter (dubvisionist) und alexander hornbach (aldubb), zu einer weiteren zusammenarbeit mit r.p.s. lanrue bewegen konnte. jetzt wurde es konkret. obwohl für die scherbenwerke keine mehrspuraufnahmen vorlagen, gelang es den dub-archäologen, die essenz der stücke in exklusiven mixen zu erhalten. nur punktuell wurden durch overdubs spuren ergänzt, verstärkt oder tiefer gelegt. so entstand, was keiner für möglich gehalten hätte: ein dub-kaleidoskop aus den scherben des westberliner klassenkampfes. die vinyl-lp ist auf 999 nummerierte exemplare limitiert und erscheint inklusive album-cd.

this october will see canada’s mathew jonson join forces with visionquest co-founder ryan crosson for a two track ep in the shape of ‘robots of dawn’.
canada’s mathew jonson has quite the impressive career under his belt having co-founded the revered wagon repair label and heading up itiswhatitis recordings as well as performing under his own name and various guises such as cobblestone jazz, the modern deep left quarted, and his new project units & measurements alongside hreno and the mole. here we see the synth aficionado joining forces with visionquest’s very own ryan crosson, who’s carved out an equally impressive career to date and will soon drop his second long player alongside cesar merveille focused on intricately musicality and an intriguing approach to electronic music via the visionquest imprint.
as you’d expect from such a pairing this collaboration packs a bunch, opening with ‘tempelhof’ named after the now defunct airport in berlin and laid out over thirteen minutes of gradually unfolding and retracting acid swells, resonant synth whirrs, mind bending arpeggios and dynamic, baroquely evolving rhythms.
title track ‘robots of dawn’, featuring added help from cesar merveille and new upstart artist isis, captures an old school electro feel via an 808 drum workout, vocoded vocal murmurs and funk-infused wandering bass lines whilst modulating synths spiral through the depths of the composition.

the second lp in the series air afrique records presents takes us into more electronic fields. mid-tempo house songs mixed with different elements like samples from all over the world or acoustic instruments and some weird electronic sounds create a very unique sound.

cynosure presents the fifth installment in the focal point compilation series. this time with a focus on various studio collaborations with mike shannon, featuring recorded sessions from mathew jonson to ricardo villalobos. a diverse selection of works ranging from a smooth 100 bpm house with the mole & hreno to a rolling deep techno at 127bpm with matt & mark thibideau. mike pulls a few gems out of the recording vault to share on a stunning triple vinyl gatefold package.

seasoned memory athletes will no doubt recall the turbo’s past affiliation with the former soviet union (proxy, tiga tigayevich khristorozhdestvensky), and recent geopolitical developments have prompted the label to once again hedge its bets. our a&r team spent countless hours sifting through layer after layer of russian underground music, a shocking amount of which turned out to be fake soundcloud accounts from producers based in florida. in fact, our best intelligence suggests that dimitri veimar may be the only person making music in russia today. for the 30 minutes a day he is not trading in politically moderate twitter-bot futures, veimar produces dark, raw-dog electro. he has already released music with omnidisc and renate, so it makes little sense to us why we have to communicate with him via a mole in the canadian embassy in moscow, which is further complicated by the fact that the mole is also an aspiring dj/producer whom we have to keep happy at all costs. you have no idea how much has been sacrificed in order to shield you from the realpolitik of international dance music.

vitalik continue their vinyl gold series with another gold standard release. for the forthcoming vitnyl003 clive henry drops a fifteen minute long opus on a single sided limited edition vinyl. my fifteen minutes of fame is contrastingly raw in it s production and sublime in composition. it s gentle meandering melodies float over a warm bed of muted pads and analogue bass. recorded as a live jam and stripped down to its constituent parts its melodies take centre stage, enthralling the listener into what can be best described as an acid house lullaby and what has already been penned as an instant balearic classic. my fifteen minutes of fame was engineered by rui da silva and is the former peace division front man s first solo release since his illustrious studio partnership with justin drake, he joins artists such as jimmy edgar, the mole, franklin de costa and anonym on the vinyl only vitalik offshoot.

welcome back to the movielike resonating sound world of the 23s. already in 2008 the mysterious one-man band proofed with the album “bolivia” that they are trying to do another kind of music – something that isn’t entertainment, something that isn’t show, something that goes gently straight to your soul. now the producer from nord-rhine-westphalia did it again and tuned in the longplayer “flamingo”. anew he delivers a special kind of cinematic journey music that grooves opposite to his other, more rhythm based hypnotic dance productions. also as the 23s he produces pattern-based music, but it pursues a different intention: each listener should dive into a hallucinatory world of seen and unseen films that his inner eye creates unprejudiced. all ten tracks are romantic smooth operators. they put themselves in service of an artistic vision, in which the listener should get lost in music. the album can be seen as a love-letter to the movie scores of the french 70s cinema or the impressionistic sound arrangements you can hear in the early cinema of peter greenaway. with double bass heat, discreet piano melodies, levitating guitar chords, some gentle horns here and there and beats that recollect the warm jazz influenced soul of oldschool hip-hop the 23s generate a sublime get-down-deep instrumental journey. you can listen to it attentive. or you can just play it in the back while doing whatever you like to do. it is recommended to play “flamingo” in a decent amount of volume as all loungey tracks begin to live bigger and brighter with sound intensity. if you play it flashy you will experience an atmospheric sometimes light-flooded, sometimes foggy 40-minute electronic journey that offers open-minded souls to fill the room between the notes with their very own milky fancy. soon the album will be accompanied by a bunch of remixes tuned in and twisted by producers like giegling and white artists edward, christian s of the cómeme tribe, canadian producer the mole and the german post rock and electronic music band to rococo rot.

repress 2015 - following an impressive string of productions on labels like leftroom, murmur, and vitalik, london based, new zealand bred hugo barritt is set to present arguably his most accomplished work to date in the form of the penumbra ep this october. the release will be the second for young uk label construct, which has already worked with the likes of swayzak and the mole, and garnered the support of craig richards, heidi, tensnake, and midland. taking a step back from things over the last 12 months hugo was able to focus genuinely on what he loves: making dance music. and his patience and unadulterated passion shows. >penumbra< is impressive and understated. with a solid a side comprised of barritts driving yet subtle house cuts, and classic remixes from tuff city kids (aka lauer & running back label boss and panorama bars secret weapon, gerd janson) on the flip, the penumbra ep will looks set to be a mainstay of dj sets for many months to come.

ednic is the italian duo of nicola di gabbia and edoardo cortopassi, and by all intents and purposes, they’re an outfit that’s on to a good thing right now. the guys make quality, analog-enriched house and techno, the likes of which comes to the fore here on puas puas, a vinyl only label that’s already featured the likes of the mole, alex piccini and carola pisaturo amongst others. first up on the exceptionally refined strands of the auberste ep sis the sounds of the original, which is a barnstorming cacophony of acid flourishes and tension-filled motifs. a track that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat for some time, it features shades of old-school electro and techno, and is the sort of track that’ll definitely rescue any ailing dancefloor. the aforementioned carola pisaturo then perks up with the first of her two remixes courtesy of her brilliant ‘church’ mix. a bumping and grinding interpretation on the original, it too keeps the suspense high, most notably thanks to a dizzying array of melodies and a series of potent basslines. her ‘botta’ remix is a more stripped back affair, albeit one that still speaks to fans of discerning fare thanks to its relentless attitude. full of shiny percussion and the odd sultry vocal smidgen, it’s further indication of a producer who looks set to enjoy an excellent 2015. this is classy stuff indeed from the puas puas label.

turquoise blue recordings was founded with a simple aim: releasing house music that is deep, sometimes dark but always groovy and underground. it is therefore no surprise the label is now releasing an ep by finnish born producer, phonogenic. with previous releases on 20:20 vision, turbo, moodmusic and others, tuomas salmela aka phonogenic has spent most of his recent time in the studio where he is preparing his forthcoming album. despite this, he did find time to capture the true essence of turquoise blue with this brand new ep, bringing us three originals and a collaborative remix from canadian producers the mole and hreno. the ep will be released as a limited edition180g baby blue coloured vinyl with a full colour sleeve on reverse board

fresh out of melbournes reputed house scene, the tortoise is one of the hottest talents to emerge from the current wave of house breaking down under. a side the puffing tortoise captures the 21-year-olds precocious talent and aims it squarely at the peak time. working his trademark airy vocals around a familiar disco refrain and bubbling bass, he works the track into a sweaty climax and skilfully keeps it there throughout the midsection. turning in a late night chugger on their remix, berlin based canadians the mole and hreno ride an insistent pulse and insect like percussion. twisting the samples, they guide the track into a dark jungle of chattering sounds to temper the tortoise youthful exuberance. the analogue melancholy of keep on keepin on is all in the sweeping synths and twinkling effects. recoiling the tension, the chicago influenced track seeps through the speakers and will sound as good at home as it will during specially chosen dancefloor moments. rondenion approaches the title track with fearless disregard for the original, combining the swelling tortoise sound with something entirely his own. his addition of a funk fuelled midsection, really breaks the track down and adds another slice of character to an ep already brimming with it.
