biosphere is the main recording name of geir jenssen (born 30 may 1962), a norwegian musician who has released a notable catalogue of ambient electronic music. he is well known for his works on ambient techno and arctic themed pieces, his use of music loops, and peculiar samples from sci-fi sources. his 1997 album substrata was voted by the users of the hyperreal website in 2001 as the best all-time classic ambient album.

efde s first release on voyage direct. the label embraces efde, regarding my bleep as arguably his most stunning production yet. some may be familiar with efdes work through his occasional 12inch singles for nordik netrecords and soweso, where he distilled a variety of influences think dreamy, ultra-deep house, the chicago bump of chez damier, and the sci-fi pulse of detroit into tracks that had a distinctive vibe all of their own. here he gets a chance to showcase his trademark sound on a four-track ep for the amsterdam-based label.

andré hommen s bassari people ep drops on objektivity, and it s sure to cause a stir on the global dancefloor. a unique bundle of groovy goodness inspired by the bassari tribe, a small group of people from senegal. andre stumbled across the tribe in a series of youtube videos, and thus the record concept was born. bassari people is getting support from the right people: solomun, dixon, tensnake, marcus worgull and mano le tough among them. a.r.m.c. on the b side may not be a dancefloor bomb , but the hidden qualities layered in the track really showcase andré s production skills.

praus has been working hard in the studio over the last three years, creating tracks that draw influence from a wide range of styles and artists. he cites “downtempo, disco, house, italo and techno” as major inspirations, and listeners may hear elements from all of these disparate styles on this assured, confident ep.

marcel vogel s lumberjacks in hell label shows no signs of slowing as it ramps up a killer new salvo from debutant artist c scott. -climb on- is an uptempo workout to capture the absolute peak of the party in the funkiest of ways, while -hands free- provides an apt alternative with its slow, organ-led whimsy. disco remains the backbone of the sound here, whatever tempo the track rolls at and wherever it may head. -stuttering- demonstrates this perfectly with its heavily treated, head-spinning fx still capturing that classic good-time mood, while -at ease- finishes on a life-affirming canter of rhodes led celebration.

it s not often that you get to see alan oldham stepping out under his own name. the legendary detroit artist is more commonly spotted as dj t-1000 (or designing iconic artwork for techno labels) but this time around he s sharing some more house-minded delights for finale sessions. -don t take me- is a haunting, mystical slice of deep house that fits into the finale narrative perfectly, while -wild- too offers up a distinctive approach that manages to be both refined and yet imbued with that detroit roughness. -breathe- may well be the best jam on the record, dealing in subtle threads of melody that conjure up the perfect dubby 4/4 confection.

digging deep into the annals of gospel now, the name pastor tl barrett should be familiar to the eagle eyed crate diggers amongst you. an extremely colourful character from chicagos southside neighbourhood who found himself on the wrong side of the law for his involvement in some activities of a dubiously illegal nature, more importantly, besides this the pastor was widely known for his community activism and positive sermons preaching love and responsibility.
