the second of march’s trio of killer polytechnic youth 45s is a mighty extended piece of slow building berlin school-esque electronica extended over 2 sides of a 33rpm disk, recorded by adam leonard, initially from a batch of 18 tracks recorded at varying times over the last six years.
“entkommen” is his first release for the label here, and both artist and label rather liked the idea of one extended track across two sides of a 45, whereby the listener must flip the disc at a half way point to continue the piece. it struck us as increasingly unusual and works a treat here...
adam has amassed a number of acclaimed releases in varying styles, and across a number of esteemed labels over the years. last year’s full band release “invaderband” being shortlisted for a northern ireland music prize 2017 and was 6music recommended. not to mention previous releases in collaboration with the owl service and p.g six.

legs 11 was formed when sigmund floyd, of palace of pleasure fame, joined forces with torstein dyrnes from the now defunct playstation duo tøyen, and mysterious bedroom musician nils tveten. during a karaoke-fuelled haze in the seedy parts of oslo, they discovered a shared love of synth pop, post-punk, new wave and house music. drawing on these influences, the band has created a diverse musical universe, ranging from dark repetitive guitar driven tracks, via infectious pop gems, to deep yet melodic dancefloor-orientated grooves. in 2017 they were joined by multi-instrumentalist audun severin eftevåg, who also brought a new instrument into the band: the saxophone! the “another wave” album is hand-picked tracks from their latest works, focusing on a more dancier approach. the house and nu-dance influences of today is mixed with heavy influences from 90’s uk indie-dance acts like the shamen and the madchester scene, and hints of new wave from the 80’s.

chreal01 is the debut project by scottish producer chaotic reality exploring a meditative side to techno. written over the course of several months spent living in new york as a resistance to the frenetic pace of a busy environment, chreal01 contains four tracks that repeat, oscillate and soundtrack a more centred existence. inspired by shinichi atobe, avalon emerson, newworldaquarium / ross154 & the 7th plain. each track in this self-released record is named after its sequence and operates on a slower tempo, focussing on melody and sound design, with aim to investigate the space between dub techno and early trance. track one opens with gentle dancing chords developing over 7 minutes, with subtle nods to echospace and black dogs otaku over a punchy kick and warm sub. reverb-licked stabs pass softly in and out the mix and ride over a homogenous chord range, highlighting points in the melody and meandering back into the ether. two has an introspective focus, rarely reaching more than two kicks per four bars. an arpeggiated lead centres the composition, slowly developing over a thick bassline. distant snaps and pops season the track and highlight the empty breathing space intentionally left in the production. on the b-side, three is characterised by heavily saturated kicks softly thumping under a bubbling melody, broken by echo-delayed stabs varying in form, filter depth and feedback timing. on the closing song four, chaoticreality develops and sculpts a stack of delayed chords creating a progressively elevating soundscape. the lead melody chords layer and discord changing thickness, shape and form throughout with pseudo kicks acting as a complimentary melody. here, cr plays with space to creating a hypnotic spacial production akin to digital justice or the orb, with the intention to take the listener to a transcendental state. chreal01 is housed in a popset sleeve & hand stickered

part of the current crop of artists spearheading the uk acid revival, posthuman s output has evolved over the years, encompassing many genres & styles from their early electronica releases, to their later acid & slow-mo techno. their debut release in 2000 was a series of hand made cds simply called -posthuman- (though better known by the colour of the card inserts grey, black, blue and brown). the duo then went on to host a number of parties in an abandoned underground train station in london between 2001 and 2004, and founded their own label seed records (2) with which they released 3 albums and several other releases of their own and other artists material. they also were the first act on manchester based imprint skam s smak sublabel. doherty left seed records to help relaunch uk techno imprint b12 records in 2006, and started a new label balkan vinyl in 2010. in 2007, doherty founded london-based acid house retrospective clubnight i love acid- where posthuman are monthly resident djs. in 2014 the clubnight launched a vinyl-only label of the same name. he also performs as agt rave cru and as one half of altern 8 live shows since 2015.

amsterdam-based duo dj windows xp provide the next ep for live ones, serving up apple infused, sample driven rhythms that ll pop cherries you never knew you had. the pair have previously offered provoking selections on dj haus imprint e-beamz and the amsterdam based who s susan to high acclaim. the biggest contradiction is that none of their music is actually produced on a windows computer - and quite rightly so. what will come next from the duo depends entirely on whether they finally decide to perform that software update.

as mosaic reaches release number 40, steve o sullivan dives into another studio collaboration with his new label mate and expert hand, mike schommer - bringing in the talents of rod modell on remix duties. etching two slices of dub heavy grooves that cover either side of the techno and house spectrum, their first effort emphasises the former on title track -submerged- (b1). it doesn t pull any punches - precision moulded bass takes centre stage around evolving synths and classic delay action. their 2nd -depth charge dub- (b2) leans more towards the latter as the duo focus on the combination of a rolling sub, laidback percussion and subtle stabs that cycle gently around. the cherry on top comes in the form of rod modell s -deepchord s negative-space exploration version- as he takes a 9 min trip to the hinterland of his sonic imagination, elegantly finding new layers and spatial effects. call it what you will, dubbed out house with a splash of techno or dubbed out techno with a splash of house - this is heavyweight material.

hackney vandal patrol is a brand new project from long time friends and neighbours scott fraser & richard sen. focusing on their joint love of that deep miami/ new york house sound, vol i is the first edition in a series of ltd 12inches. heading back to richard s heritage of being a highly respected graffiti artist, each one is hand tagged by richard in his own unique style and numbered with an insert by scott. the first release, bound by faith is a straight up and direct for the dance floor miami style deep house cut, complete with reverend jesse jackson speech on the vocal version. for the dj crews there is a deeper redemption dub stripped back bass hit with added percussion and a re-programmed instrumental of the original. the hackney vandal patrol were once despatched to patrol the streets around the mighty london borough of hackney.

warren harris did a sterling job on his first outing for perpetual rhythms as hanna, and he s back for round two. things are just as deep as you would hope and expect, with harris unique take on the detroit house formula present and correct on the cleverly executed -lake shore dr.- -parallel- finds him exploring his penchant for snagged, off-kilter rhythms matched with deep house delicacy, and -gold coast- takes things into lounge territory without ever sounding insipid. therein lies the magic of hanna, and beautiful experiment -khords 1- is on hand to finish the ep off as a statement of just how special and unique harris music is.

piero umiliani writes music for the rai tv documentary produced by gigi martello and lionello torossi for fremantle italiana in 1964 titled “il dono del nilo-, directed by corrado sofia, with whom the florentine musician will collaborate several times for television tuning. originally printed by cam on lp and 7&#8243,,,,,,, “the gift of the nile / arab market “, both very rare and sought after, contain exotic flavors and world-easy listening. these sessions were recorded made in rome in september of 1964 with the orchestra directed by umiliani himself and the participation of singer tawfik yussr. available for the first time since it’s original release, this limited edition vinyl reissue is limited to 700 hand-numbered copies on orange & gold coloured vinyl.

presented on vinyl for the first time, heres the awesome score of one of the most ambitious spaghetti westerns ever, the forgotten pistolero a.k.a. il pistolero dell’ave maria from 1969 by the duo comprised of roberto pregadio and franco micalizzi. with a title like this, you can probably already feel the music - a dark toned take on the spaghetti western sound of the time - served up with the kind of brooding, haunting themes that provide a perfect backdrop for a man on a mission! relatively spare and moody, it offers a unique blend of jazzy rhythms, western themes, electric guitar and whistling. instrumentation is nicely compressed at points - driving passages lines that lurk around the bottom of subtle orchestrations - creating subtle-stepping drama without pushing things too far over the top. the soundtracks is released in a hand numbered 500 copies limited edition 180 gram white vinyl in gatefold sleeve including the original cinema poster of the movie.
