idle hands first release of 2018 comes from dan habarnam, a producer who made his name with releases skirting round the edges of dnb on exit and cylon. in the last few years he has turned his hand to techno with two 12inches on hs own selectie label that found favour with ben ufo amongst others. here are on idle049 we present two tracks of his latest work, hard hitting broken techno with maximum dancefloor potential.
a side original mix + an alternate version, on the b side dj pete contributed with two remixes as substance. mastered and cut by helmut erler at dubplates & mastering. 180g black 12 , 1 colour center label (black on white), plain white outersleeve with a 3mm spine, plain white innersleeve, limited to 150 copies.
with a musical carreer spanning over 10 years in different fields of the industry, this extraordinary ep is his first release in almost 3 years, following his album on exit records. dan is the experienced artist who has a very clear idea about what he wants and what he puts out there. it takes a lot of time and involvement for him to develop his music - in this very instance, both tracks are performed on a hardware sampler loaded with snippets of an impromptu live set he distilled to perfection. these two tracks have been waiting for the right time and context to surface, and we can confidently say that time and context have finally arrived.
nice price deal !!! real name dan griober, dan habarnam has been active since the 90s, doing production for romanian pop artists while also working on his own projects. his solo catalog is pretty slim, with just a few appearances on drum & bass labels like santorin and subtle audio, but from the known is clearly the work of an experienced artist: though loosely anchored in techno, ambient and bass music, its stylistically open-ended, and produced with an audiophiles attention to detail. according to the label, groibers meticulousness extended to the mastering process as well (the cd, for instance, was recorded direct from the vinyl to achieve that special analog feel)
across the length and breadth of the albums 28‐,,,track span, mosaic vol.2 is the second chapter of label boss dbridges mission statement to marry disparate sounds on a mixed‐,,,artist album whilst triumphantly steering clear of convolution. the albums roll call lists luminaries emanating from all spheres of electronic music ‐,,, ranging from us footwork impresario and frequent jimmy edgar collaborator machinedrum, who chimes in with a soulful synth‐,,,heavy jam on *the palace* to the increasingly potent combination of om unit & sam binga with the pair continuing in their rich vein of form on the label and wistfully amalgamating influences from jungle, dubstep and funk on album highlight *triffidz*.
this is the second compilation album from irelands ever inventive subtle audio label. with djs as diverse as mary anne hobbs of bbc radio 1, bailey on bbc radio 1xtra and possibly the best-known name in electronica, aphex twin playing subtle audio material regularly, you can rest assured that this is drum & bass beyond the normal scope and will be enjoyed by many who thought they didnt like that style of music! the vinyl side of the project holds 5 exclusive tracks by requiem, accidental style, mecca, dan habarnam and sub.
incl. well known producers such as skream, instra:mental, scuba and commix rub shoulders with some inspiring new talents such as indigo, synkro, mode and code 3. the theme of the album is quality timeless music, whether it be a dance floor killer such as systems >observation point< or loxy and resounds >vertigo< through to the tangerine dreamlike sounds of croms >invisible cities< or strays >pushed<, this album truly represents the more experimental side of drum and bass as opposed to the crash bang wollop!
