genial welcomes 2014 with a new release and at the same time a new member in its roster. it is the italy based dj and producer leon who already has an impressive discography on labels like cecille, saved, defected and many many more. on genial he debuts with a track that has caused havoc every single time it got played for the past 6 months in clubs all over the world. king of the jungle takes us back to the past with its old school break beat, while the robot-esque vocal sample brings a flavour from the future. on the remix duties, the label favourite egal 3 provides a deep atmospheric version full of haunting synths and fxs, totally written for those late mornings when you just want to get lost in the music. on the b side, danish producer martinez is taking us to an almost 14 minutes trip with his concealed dub mix, with a deep but very groovy bass and a special arrangement which will keep you going from the start to end.

if chicago and detroit are the cities in which house and techno were born and raised, it was in italy circa 1990 that this delirious party music experienced a piano-driven coming of age. so far, so spangled. but while that may be the official story, there are other italian narratives too. take francois le roy and nanni for instance - two djs and producers from southern italy for whom, in the early nineties, the likes of aphex twin, autechre and air liquide were important, alongside the machine funk of detroit and the immersive soundtracks of the ambient generation. both artists are steeped in underground club music, and their new release on shabby doll records is a fine example of tough, tech-edged house. the *crossing roads* ep features four tracks that showcase their melodic yet relentless groove, they may be based in milan, but on this record, the influence of detroit, chicago and new york runs deep.

alessandro parisi recorded this album just with a roland tr-707 and a roland jx-3p. the result is impressive. for lux rec it was worth the labels first lp. the heritage from his home in the northeast of italy is clearly present in the music of parisi. back in the late seventies and early eighties pordenone was an industrial city with a vivid underground post punk and wave scene. cold weather electronics. fog and darkness surrounds the place to this day and deeply pervades this record: the history of a city called draconia. who will do wrong shall not be forgiven. limited to 250 copies, it comes in a red vinyl double 12-inch outfit. free download included!
