appleblim’s third 12&#8243,,, for tempa touches on the sonic territories explored on his first 12&#8243,,, (the experimental and amorphus ‘wandered’ from tempa101) while expanding on those ideas. the first track ‘minus degree’ is appleblim at his most experimental. a beatless affair of sparse soundscapes and atmospheres. full of tension, and crucially no release, you are swept away by the waves of synths and sub bass. next track ‘move them’ is more traditional appleblim - 4x4 and dub techno chords build a sense of momentum over the space of 7 minutes. a traditionally leaning techno tune with a uk twist, appleblim’s use of space and tension will keep any raver entranced. final track ‘twist it down’ rounds out the ep with a subtle roller. broken drum patterns and bright synths help in stripping away some of the darker undertones prevalent in the previous tracks.

belgian producer alix depauw is probably best known for his long-running association with shogun audio, where he started out making drum & bass and eventually moved towards halftime and other sounds inspired by soul and r&b. he’s also collaborated on experimental bass music with eprom under the name shades. the first ep on his new 1985 music imprint, elephant dreams, is a four-tracker from depauw himself and reportedly marks a return to his drum & bass roots. it also features two collaborations with skeptical.

andre lodemann is a highly regarded producer from berlin whose debut release dropped in 2004 on mike grant s legendary moods & grooves label. last year saw andre lodemann release his innervisions debut leaving the comfort zone ep. he has remixed for labels such as innervisions, buzzin fly, poker flat and rebirth. squares is a brand new side-project from fish go deep, focusing on completely hardware-based productions and slightly more experimental, left field deep house. tony lionni continues to impress following his osgut ton smash found a place (which continues to drive dance floors into a frenzy worldwide) with releases on versatile, mule, wave and madhouse.

2016 is shaping to be a fantastic year for rebirth records, the 10th year anniversary and the 100th release…to celebrate this special date the label owner shield and his right arm robytek get in the studio to collaborate with two of the most innovative figures of the end of 70s / early 80s. the a side is the the pyramids with isabelle antena, french singer and songwriter, founding member of electro-samba pioneers antena. in the 1990s she also led another group, the powaga sisters, for three albums between until 2004. alongside these projects she maintained a solo music career, selling over a million albums and earning musical acclaim across the globe. from camino del sol (1982) to bossa super nova (2010), her cool latin, bossa, jazz and funk vibes have delighted ears and feet worldwide. the pyramids is something really special, a cosmic and balearic song with a timeless meaning, with the collaboration of martin ditcham (sade s percussionist) for the drum and paolo mantini, a real italian talent, for the bass and chords. the aa side is now, a collaboration with salvatore principato (sal p.) and dennis young, known as the vocalist and marimba/percussionist of (for the legendary early 80 s nyc band liquid liquid) seminal nyc minimalist-funk band liquid liquid. the experimental sounding band emerged from new york city s vibrant downtown scene in 1981, developing their own unique sound which they called big beat, a fusion of irresistible basslines, junkyard percussion and urgent, free-flowing lyrics. the group s successes included club hits such as cavern (sampled by grandmaster flash in the making of white lines), bellhead and optimo in addition to sold-out concerts worldwide. sal p and dennis still explore today new ways of writing & performing music. now is the experimental way to combine the live drums played by snacks (the berlin based duo rene corbett & aljoscha babel), with the electronic world and the unique musical textures from sal p and dennis young.

brand new experimental-techno label gothic romance, located in vicenza releases his first ep by gothic (alessandro de re & stefan battistetti, label founders and main label artists) called reims, included a special rework by xpress. reims is ispirated by gregorian chant, masked of a dark and melanchonic melody, aggressive and paranoid beats. xpress rework was born for the dancefloor, its composed by original beat parts united to a 4/4 deep violent kick and a paranormal synth voice inspired by cosmic and aliens sound.

for their next release, zone records welcome legendary french producer, remixer, singer, songwriter and emblematic musical star arnaud rebotini for a fascinating four track ep. alongside the standout music, the artwork for the ep is a photo of a suitably impressive sculpture of arnaud that the label have had specially commissioned for the release. arnaud rebotini has done it all, from pioneering electronic works to teaming up with chamber orchestras. a real synth wizard and mesmeric live performer who has remixed everyone from depeche mode to nitzer ebb, bloc party to rammstein, he is an award winning musician who also started the seminal black strobe group and has had his music used on a number of films such as the wolf of wall street. as such, from experimental pop to death metal, electro to soundtracks, he has done it all. now he returns to his good friends at zone music for another sterling ep.

jessy lanza s second album oh no is inspired by japanese 80s electro outfit yellow magic orchestra’s philosophy of experimental pop. playfully laced with cascading arpeggios, crispy drum machines and breezy songs, oh no has an infectious energy that has carried over from her live shows.
made in her hometown of hamilton, ontario, with production partner jeremy greenspan from junior boys, the plaintive, reverb drizzled mood of the first album has all but given away to a more direct, confident and joyful album. as jessy says ‘i want to make people feel good and i want to make myself feel good’

originally released in a limited edition of 500 copies in 1982 monoton’s second album ‘monotonprodukt 07’ is now a collector item and also one of the most important album of all-time. it has been voted one of the 100 best records by highly influential uk magazine the wire. monoton was founded in 1979 by hypermedia wizard konrad becker as an art project that underwent various transformations and collaborations in its exploration of psycho-active sound. a pioneer in experimental electronic music, becker continued to break new ground in electronic media. monotonprodukt 07 has been reissued on vinyl by desire (and is still available as a double picture-discs limited to 500 copies. it’s the first time ever that tracks from the album are remixed and desire is proud to had such great artists/producers as us prositutes, svengalighost with fellow partner and l.i.e.s. boss and hospital productions artist ron morelli. the last remix is the work of great mancunian duo rainer veil (modern love). an incredible remix package that do justice to this classic album ! mastered by matt colton at alchemy.
