mathias schaffhauser, founder of german label ware records debuts on third ear with a 3 track 12inch. this is big-sky, expansive, driving techno even the beatless version of grad minus 12. mathias schaffhaeusers ware records had a very recognisable sound. it was one of the defining labels of the cologne sound, most associated with kompakt these days. but in the 90s and early 00s, ware was as significant a label, especially for djs. this release is very much a good example of that sound, still sounding fresh and bristling with good energy.

opilec music s eclectic remix series rolls on with another essential package, this time tackling a single from label boss i-robots s law of robotics album back in 2008. adding their own spin to things are red axes and hiroshi watanabe aka kaito after likes of kuniyuki takahashi, djembe monks, danny ocean, los hermanos, gary martin, alexander robotnick, daniele baldelli & marco dionigi have all stepped up previously. isreali duo red axes go first, a pair known for mixing up synths and guitars in exciting new ways on labels like hivern discs, i m a cliche and esp institute amongst others. their excellent version of the track re-works it as a deep and spine tingling house cut. moody chords lull you into a hypnotic and zoned out groove that is finished with some intoxicating spoken words. hiroshi watanabe aka kaito is next, an acclaimed kompakt and transmat artist who makes succulent techno with ambient atmospheres. his brilliant version here is just that, with cosmic chords and slippery rubber beats carrying you away into the night. warm and inviting, it elevates you to the next level over its long length, it is a classy bit of techno that also comes as a stripped back instrumental version.

argentinian veteran jorge savoretti has been djing for more than 20 years, and his first release for esperanza records traces back to 2005. in this time laps he has produced 2 albums, 20 eps and a great number of remixes, on labels such as raum musik, visionquest and ilian tape. his debut on cadenza is a crisp breeze of graceful music for dancing. side a starts point-blank with bou gei bouncing shuffle, driving bass line, lively cymbals, sparkling band-passed chords, summing-up jorge s true dedication to nightclubs and nightlife. with no reprieve, ruth suspicious pads lurk behind a funky swinging rhythm spruced up by a continuous surfacing of snare rolls and giggly stabs. on the b side, sensu dub explores without hesitation darker textures and resonances, leaving no concessions to leave the dancefloor. finally u-fonk #04.01 dives into sweating hotblooded late-time hours, with am hypnotising deep-toned coil, soaked of greasy riffs and gloomy fumes.

rawax welcomes maartenvan der vleuten to the family! we have the honour to present you some unreleased tracks from the 90 ! the dutch producer, composer and recording artist born in vught, the netherlands in 1967. from 1987 to 2007 he has used over two dozen aliases producing detroit techno, electro, house, experimental and ambient tracks and remixes. early 2008 he announced to only use his real name (or his initials mvdv) for future releases. during the 90 s he recorded mainly dance/techno for r&s records, outrage recordings, apollo records (belgium), djax-up-beats, see saw, esp and klang elektronik and several other labels. since 1996 he is also releasing music on his own label signum recordings. the two sublabels of signum, passiflora and glam, are now both defunct. he is the founder of signum recordings, passiflora records and glam records.

having already earned his balearic stripes some time ago, as one of the resident djs at we love. at space in ibiza, ian blevins has since relocated to berlin, and has been immersing himself in the esoteric vibes of the city. on the strength of his latest ep on futureboogie, this is clearly a good thing, as the round trip ep is laden with the deep magical vibes that have also shaped his recent releases on labels like banoffe pies, not an animal records, blind jacks journey and esp institute. on round trip, an abundance of driving, arpeggiated synthesizers weave around sparse yet sturdy drumbeats, as thick pads rise and fall in dramatic fashion. panthera krause (permanent vacation/riotvan/lobster theremin) is on board for the remix of round trip, re-shaping the original into a merry, space organ led, tribal dance, with a splash of garage house vibes that soon become immersed in its own synth heaven, its a cracking remix from the leipzig based producer. on rolands rat, blevins keeps things tight with soaring strings, organ stabs a strolling bassline for a quality jam, whilst can you count my dream? is a dense, and cinematic slab of transcendental dance, an almost claustrophobic atmosphere only intensifies the drama and delivers the heat that seals this superb ep from blevins.

there is a long-standing love affair between dj harvey and pikes, ibiza. as well as coming back for his third consecutive ‘mercury rising’ residency, the legendary ‘djs’ dj has been appointed ‘cultural attaché’ for pikes, meaning his magic touch and feel-good presence will create even more special moments at pikes this summer, including the launch of new label, pikes records.
in 2015 dj harvey made his hugely anticipated return to ibiza and made pikes his home for his mercury rising debut, a concept inspired by the beauty of the real ibiza, the incredible history of pikes and a genuine love for music. the love, the dancing, the music and the balearic spirit perfectly and poetically encapsulated by dj harvey has seen mercury rising widely recognised as the most special night to embrace the island in over a decade.

toby tobias joins delusions again for what will be his sixth(!) 12inch entitled the rain. the prolific londoner whose releases have graced such venerable labels as rekids, esp intistute and lets play house, is back with a vengeance, delivering two mighty fine originals plus a remix from nebraska. in true toby tobias style, the rain got made on an mpc, sliced and edited from a single live take through the desk then accidentally deleted so no further mixing, sequencing or editing could be carried out. but what is an a&r mans nightmare, turns out to be the record buying djs gain, as the improvised, dubby vibe and raw as mixdown give the track an authentic feel and energy which could only come from the madness in tobys method. fresh from his brilliant releases on mister saturday night and razor n tape, we have our man nebraska do his thing on the remix of the rain. dropping down the bpms a bit from tobys more frenetic original, nebraska adds a healthy dose of moogy lead lines to the lo-slung house groove, perfect for warming up the dancefloor.

renowned argentinean artist franco cinelli returns to unlock recordings with three intricate cuts from the vault this september. one of argentina s most respected producers, franco cinelli has been making music for over two decades. the rosario-born artist has made a name for himself with excellent releases on the likes of djulz bass culture, esperanza and raum...music, not to mention his collaborative project alongside dario zenker named maria fresca on ilian tape. with so many of the upper echelons of house, techno and minimal supporting his tracks, including ricardo villalobos himself, franco cinelli s inimitable productions are not to be overlooked. originally released in 2009 and now finally getting a proper vinyl release, cinelli s remix of saccobros why not constructs an energetic narrative that extends over ten minutes. tight kicks work alongside looped atmospherics as a muffled hook and infectious sample add to the heightening suspense. cuts from the vault also sees two new productions from the argentinian. morph sense is the more twisted of the two, demonstrating a medley of clicks and whirrs whilst sci-fi inspired arpeggios operate throughout. as the name suggests, dub sine of the moon is the deepest cut on the package, with its crunchy percussion and subterranean tape delays that form a hypnotizing aesthetic from start to finish.

on 7th august the godfather mike dunn presents an ep fuelled by a pumping heart of pure house, entitled ‘dj beat that shhh’ / ‘move it work it’. taken from his forthcoming album due for release in october 2017. both tracks capture mike’s essence, placing his trademark hip house booty style vocals and stripped-back, jacking drums centre stage. ‘dj beat that shit’ is classic, bumping 90s chi goodness updated with modern technology, whilst ‘move it, work it’ is a no-nonsence smoke and strobe throbber, that recalls the best of trax and dj international. for anyone who knows their shit, mike should need no introduction, but for those that don’t, he was highly influential in birthing the modern day dance music phenomenon, especially with tracks like ‘face the nation’, ‘god made me phunky’, ‘let it be house’ and ‘personal problem’. mike created hip house, dj’d with fellow legends ron hardy, larry heard and armando gallop, produced for house heroes armando, fast eddie and k-alexi shelby, and worked with the iconic voices of byron stingley and kym english. after a long absence from djing in europe, mike returned in 2015 to rock crowds at panorama bar, fabric, concrete, sub club and glastonbury, demonstrating why the chicago og is still very much in demand.

the good doctor has been a cherished member of the jalapeno records family for the best part of ten years now with three albums and many more singles to his name. with evergreen support from the likes of bbc6music and especially craig charles his back catalogue never seemed to fall out of fashion and we consistently received requests to reissue classic tracks on vinyl for discerning djs and fans. well we re not the types to argue with anyone and frankly we thought that they might have a good point so we ve relented and are releasing a special 7- vinyl with two versions of his seminal track disco scene . of course the classic original mix is present and the frantically energetic breaks of wrath re-edit has got its backâ€,¦one vinyl, two banging mixes, many happy people â€,“, it s just simple maths really.    Â

this is how it started focuses heavily on the early days of the chicago sound, especially in the formative years at ron hardy s music box.
following chicago s disco demolition night in 1979 the genre s popularity fell dramatically, hence fewer disco records being released.in this era chicago s djs such as hot mix 5, hardy, knuckles & jesse saunders played a variety of styles mixing in italo, electronic pop music, electro-funk and older disco joints often playing their own edits which focusing on the portions of the songs which always rocked the dancefloor. at the end of 1982, when dj frankie knuckles left the warehouse to open the power plant, ron hardy started to dj at the warehouse s new location until owner robert williams renamed it the music box. in 1984, a local label released a 12-inch single called -on and on- by locals jesse saunders & vince lawrence who had simple made the song in order to replace a record which had been stolen from saunders collection, the -on & on- bootleg disco megamix by mach. hence chicago house music was born and a modern day phenomenon followed.

bucharests own khidja have been an active part in the local nightclub scene over the past years. after first appearing as co-compilers of the romanian jazz lp for sonar kollektiv, it was finally a remix for baris k on emotional especial in late 2013 which put the duo on the want list of many tasteful djs around the world. the time was just perfect to appear with oriental soundscapes having been the most sought-after spice in dance music during that summer period

optimo trax is an offshoot label of optimo music for tracks aimed at djs/dancefloors. yes, we know there are too many record labels already, but we felt an overriding desire to start another one as so much music that didnt seem quite right for optimo music (i.e. music that was specifically designed for dancing) kept coming our way. like the parent label, optimo trax will release music by new artists and excavate forgotten classics. luma is a project by dave clark from glasgow. dave had his first release as a member of state of flux in 1993 on t&b vinyl, the label twitch ran with his dj partner of that era, brainstorm. twitch and dave have continued to work together in various ways ever since. he has released records as truffle club, and as big ned on optimo music as well as working with twitch from 2005 - 2010 remixing a plethora of artists under the optimo (espacio) moniker before fatherhood necessitated him focusing on changing nappies rather than programming synths. dave has also recorded under various aliases for r&s, numbers, stuffrecords, dissident and wireblock. the twentieth anniversary of that first release seemed a fitting date for dave to unleash his monster new club music alter ego, luma on optimo trax. twitch thinks dave is the best producer in scotland and endlessly weeps into his gin and tonics about how unprolific dave is, so was ecstatic when the 4 killer tracks were delivered that make up this third optimo trax ep. these have been thoroughly road tested over the last few months at gigs around the world.

club trax, is a new series of records created by djs, exclusively for djs. pressed in a limited amount, club trax is only available on vinyl and presents reworks of classic songs from the present and the past.
this second club trax outing brings the spotlight back on a 91 classic that moved many mountains and greatly participated in the building of underground culture worldwide and especially in the uk. the shamen was first founded as psychedelic indie rock band alone again or in the mid 80s before it quickly evolved as one of the leaders of the british acid house scene.

politics of dancing brings together two djs and music producers who are strong figures of parisian deep house nights : s.m.a.l.l & paco. guillaume paco is the creator and main deejay of one of the oldest party in paris, open house, and he has been touring clubs all over the world for more than 15 years now. david matarasso aka s.m.a.l.l is a renowned producer and very talented deejay, who has already signed on the finest labels such as esperanza, catwash, brique rouge, overall, mixx records to name but a few. limited 300 copies, vinyl only!

over the past few years we have seen a surge of artists, music and labels coming out of romania and, whilst not seen as a traditional hotbed of house music, this new wave of movers and shakers are working together to create their own lasting musical legacy. the latest in the busy line of producers is 22 year old bacau born, marcman. behind the decks at 14 and studying his art from 18 the young man with a love for angry kicks and heavy baselines has already graced the likes of quanticman, plant 74 and esperanza with his music. now hes set to join the bass culture family as he presents his debut release for the label the in trecere ep. >i was actually sent some marcman tracks about a year ago by franco cinelli< says bass culture label chief djulz. i instantly loved his beats and groove and i played them immediately on the circoloco terrace. i got in touch and asked him to work on an ep for bass culture. i specifically wanted it for this summer because his beats are exactly what i love to play in ibiza. marcmans 4 track >in trecere< ep sees him sandwiching the deep dubby sounds of rutina and the percussive guitar licked dansand, with the chicagoesque numbers levier and in trecere.

last years tbg01 was charted by german djane ellen allien and broadcasted by gilles peterson of bbc-international fame - amongst others. the second installment (with the slightly confusing catalog-number tbg04) changes its appearance from white-label 12 inch in a black & white gatefold cover to heavy white vinyl in a multicolored disco-sleeve. the labels patron arthur boto conley showcases the work of obscure 1980s producer clifford trunk. the lo-fi dance and ambient tracks origin from a tape which was hand to conley by trunk during a brief encounter at düsseldorfs ratinger hof in 1986. depicted on the cover you can see italian designer ettore sottsass work for the fashion company esprits european headquarter which opened up the same year. clifford trunk was working for the sottsass associati from 1982 on and had a leisure time obsession for drum-computers and sample synths. what a serendipity! - limited to 333 records.

candy land is dj pi-ges first solo release from arpa records. it follows on from his previous collaboration with mathias kaden as unit mathi midori& pi-ge who released the konomama ep on raummusik the ep gained critical acclaim, especially for the inspiring remixes by reboot and maayan nidam. “candy land( original mix) - track one is a minimal track structured with profound bass, crunchy guitar samples and simple rhythm, peppered with minimalistic voice samples, it features a high impact breakdown. on the track 2 is a remix by christian burkhardt, one of the most remarkable producers at the moment and his tracks have been released various leading labels such as raum…musik, oslo, and cocoon to name a few. his remix fuses the characters of the original track with a unique new school rhythm and groove. on the 3rd track is deep and dark remix by dj sodeyama, label honcho of arpa records. this remix form an extended journey of over 10mins with a deep and dark introduction thats combined with experimental sounds as the track builds. all in all a great package for djs of deep house, tech house and techno.

long-winded essays on the musical qualities of wareika are unnecessary. the trio has been playing its way in to the hearts of electronic listeners and party-goers since their first release in 2008 – especially with their brilliant live performances.
wareikas solid output has been proven over and over with steady releases on noted labels like liebe*detail, conaisseur or perlon. falling categorically somewhere in between house, jazz and dub, wareika have remained individualists and their music is a hot topic for djs, clubbers and festival visitors alike.

after several one-off releases/ remixes in the last two years on miscellaneous labels such as hertzklopfen records, debox and 8 bit, in fact one of mannheims top djs returns with a stunning and cunning 8 bit e.p. called >i hear voices<. the vinyl release delivers a vocalistic package of thrilling deephouse with >losing the physics< up to the more percussive and kickin facet of techhouse with the track >tall bold slugger<. well... we suggest this is pretty a little dancefloor monster! the completeness of the e.p. you will find with the third track called >we have to stop< – a hypnotic and straight techhouse tool especially for the moments late after midnight.
