quantum collage is the latest pseudonym of olaf gutbrod aka ohm-g. having built a reputation around his long list of chill out tracks produced while resident in ibiza, this release on martin gretschmann (acid pauli, console) and nico stojan’s ouïe sees him dive into some more electronic textures. ‘lucid dreaming’ is a chugging, groovy trip built around a shuffling beat and dubbed out percussion and horns, tapping into gutbrod’s talent for amplifying the vibe. ‘afrika im weltraum’ adds a little more tempo - a swirling, driving drum loop provides the basis for layers of extra percussion and spacey synths and various chants and radio broadcasts. her beauty certainly draws on some the mastery gutbrod showed in his releases on café del mar and hotel costes cds - a chilled out groover with the sunset / sunrise seemingly in mind.

it took me a couple of years get invited to christophe de groot’s (aka circadian rhythms) homebase, and a couple more years to dive into his sonic archive. but time tells and basic moves 02 is what came out. the two tracks were recorded at earguard studio in brussels around 1996, at a moment when his interest was moving away from club music towards other golden musical horizons. “frequency” is a macro tech-house track in mid tempo.
i’m super happy i could archive it on wax because we almost fucked up the master dat tape by blowing up the player during a marathon listening session at his place. we had to open the device, unroll the tape across his house (full of records) and fold it back into the mini dat cassette. after a few hours and twenty metres of tape, the problem was solved and the tracks archived: “a dose of authenticity at a time of post-counter-cultural stagnation”. “house speaker call” originated in proto-techno forms. christophe never sees techno as a type of music but as a process. as a producer, collector and deejay he always dives deep into authentic forms of electronic music. deg’s antic personality shines out in the middle of the harsh beat-driven electro/techno track like a hopeful melody passing by on its elliptic orbit. tune your cells into his vibrations and get ready for these two timeless club tracks.

oberst & buchner are next up on freeride millenium and the two bavaria born, vienna based producers deliver an ep that offers their interpretation of what modern summer togetherness sounds like. the talented pair started making music together aged 15 and aim to cook up emotionally driven jams. they do so on labels like heimlich, underyourskin records, schönbrunner perlen, lokd, and always get the juices going, as they do once again here. beginning with the brilliant greg we dive into a breakbeat bath of summery chords as playful claves dance on the horizon. it is a melodically rich track with spiritual feelings that really bliss you out. on the moodier emile night time arrives and warm chords mix with jangling, organic glass and percussive tinkles that reflect rays of light. it s a perfectly jazzy and loose number that really suspends you in a rueful place. last but not least, embrace is a fluid intergalactic convention with sparse drum kicks weighed down by sombre synths. a skittish, dubstep style groove then comes in and elevates the track with gentle guitar licks and slithering synths adding colour, and overall it has the same zoned out feel as a thousand-yard stare. this is a brilliant mood ep that mixes up the synthetic with the organic, creating some fascinating grooves as a result. the release once again features original artwork from the ever talented daniel rajcsanyi. thanks for purchasing a real copy!

unknownmix was a band active in zürich between 1983 and 1992. their music is a mixture of free vocalism, new wave and industrial, they released five lps and three eps. out of their discography lux rec selected four tracks, remastered from the original tapes, and presented as a sampler ep. four tracks that fit perfectly to the label’s tonal view. an ode to those zürich days, when excesses and uncompromising choices were a badge of honour. and music was something to fight for, or fight with, or dive in and die.

for lionoils 4th outing, formerly supine edinburgh top cat thinktank takes us on a dive around his subaquatic crib, drifting between its many chambers - each one stranger and more manic than the next.

initial listens to inre rymden (swedish for inner space) reveal it to be a curious combination of slow-motion house music and salubrious new age funk. in this case, first impressions are accurate, and they should intrigue you enough to dive deeper into the paradisiacal vistas tommy awards paint here. the opening track prometheus introduces that feeling of sundown deliquescence that very few musicians can summon, as it locks into a laid-back groove that induces utmost serenity, buoyed by sublimely mellow guitar vibes that should make fans of manuel gšttsching s ashra and phil manzanera s solo output spring to attention. draget conjures the sort of exquisite elegance and preternatural chill last heard on roxy musics 1982 lp avalon but somehow its even more blissed out than that boudoir classic. and so it goes for most of inre rymden: among the six tracks, only rexy hints at tension, courtesy of a bass line that sounds like it should score a prisoners walk to the electric chair. but thats tempered by guitar sighs of radiant melancholy, not unlike those lofted by popol vuh s daniel fichelscher. even when inre rymden gets relatively uptempo, as on hans logan, it still glides like gilded, glazed, balearic house jams, urged on by subliminal bongos and dappled with pastel guitar shimmers far off on the horizon. music is love and love is our music, runs tommy awards slogan (a sentiment beautifully echoed by david crosby on his revered 1971 album if i could only remember my name), but one could also argue that it is medicine a balmy ear massage that spreads healing frissons to all areas of your body and mind. tommy awards continue their miraculous act as scandinavians channeling the tropics with stunning audio verisimilitude.

this june will see bondage music release part two of it’s ‘home (remixes)’ package, welcoming an array of artists to remix mihai popoviciu’s recent long player on the label. following on from part 1 of the package which has already garnered support from the likes of huxley, neverdogs, emanuel satie and mat.joe to name but a few, bondage music returns with the second offering in this four part series. tuccillo takes the lead with his interpretation of ‘focus’, and as always from the ibiza-based unblock music founder we’re treated to intricately programmed, smooth and hypnotic material laid out over seven and a half minutes with a deftly unfolding dynamic feel. el mundo’s take on ‘triumph’ follows, dropping the tempo and instilling a latin edge to things via organic percussion, emotive strings and mystical vocals. frankfurt’s sascha dive then offers up his ‘atmospheric dub’ of ‘music 999’ to open the flip side, as the name would suggest shining light on billowing dub stabs, ethereal atmospheres and robust rhythms before kevin yost closes the package with his percussive driven ‘hynposia’ remix. the mihai popoviciu ‘home (remixes) part 2’ is out on bondage-music 9th june 2017

roduced by roman flügel and jörn elling wuttke / published by copyright control mastered by dubplates and mastering, recut by stefan betke at scape mastering berlin alter ego recordings is very pleased, to rerelease this acid jesus classic, which is sounding just as fresh as it sounded, when it was released on klang elektronik back in 1997. the record was out of print since over 15 years and the tracks were not availlable on any digital platform. based on a very light, but striking ground construction, roman flügel and jörn elling wuttke leading their listeners over delicate fm-synthesis-sounds, minimal clonky bass patterns and snappy percussions to a long intermission breakdown, which reminds us of a starting boeing 747. where “interstate” plays like an inspired peakhour-jam should, “turkey skank” and “hibernation drive-, on the b-side, take on cooler tones for a headier machine-funk ride. the record was played out by dj’s like andrew weatherall, matthew herbert, luke slater, baby ford, dj hell, ellen allien, sven väth, ricardo villalobos, michael mayer etc.

after releasing a string of quality eps for the likes of charlois, doppellschall and permanent vacation, amsterdam based artist dollkraut (pascal pinkert) confirmed in 2014 with his debut album schimanskis black lullabies on brandt brauer fricks imprint the gym. the dutch producers back with his sophomore lp due february 24th 2017 on dischi autunno new label founded by jennifer cardini and noura labbani. holy ghost people sees dollkraut delve deeper into his recognizable lo-fi and organic sound, inspired by old movie soundtracks, creating gritty atmospheres mixed with the purest of melodies. album opens with instant hit bonnie said, where pascals vocals magically merge with the darkest of bass lines. valium continues the journey, increasing the tempo but confirming the feeling of being in a lost sci-fi movie soundtrack. on oblivian, the rhythm slows down again, allowing us to dive even more in this twisted yet candid universe.

julian stetter might be best known as one half of the electronic pop duo vimes, but he is no stranger to the cologne club scene. his debut ep insides stems from a long history of djing and organising underground parties across the city. a resident dj and collaborator at colognes famed jackwho club, it was these surroundings that drove stetter to dive deep into producing. his first solo project is now set to be released on the label pnn. it features three tracks plus a remix by beyou. stetters sound is polished and the precise production of each three tracks make this ep feel far from debut. emily, the main track of the single, draws you in on shimmering waves that rise and break into a deeper and spacier sound. warm beats are interjected with random snippets of whale song. listening to emily feels like receiving a welcome hug at an after party.

the second release on our recently launched label comes from no other than our unique ricardo villalobos, under his germanized moniker richard wolfsdorf. besides being a world touring dj and headlining the best clubs and festivals around the planet, he has been a reference producer for everyone interested in forward thinking dance music over the last one and a half decades. at mdrnty we all love his music, dj sets and personality and he has been a key player at our events for many years, so it is with great honour that we welcome him on our new label. faithful to his style, he offers us an over 20 minutes length song divided in two sides. featuring canadian singer beaver sheppard, fiva is a mind bending minimalistic trip. beavers mumbling voices add the perfect balance to ricardos abstraction and hypnotism. once more ricardo shows us how much can be said with only a few elements and how deep it is possible to dive and wonder into his sparse music landscape.

a project that came to life fuelled by collectors obsession and a lifelong willingness to dive head- first into unknown musical wormholes, miles whittaker and sean canty have never been defined by a singular musical trajectory. their opening salvo of releases dabbled with the aesthetic of the occult and provided an alternate, parallax view of the italian library records with which they were both obsessed at the time, but as their long running mixtape series and brilliantly curated dds label attest, their interests extend far outside the crevices of early electronic music and into dance music, dancehall, roots, jungle, techno, industrial, noise and beyond. while 2013s testpressing series provided an outlet for mostly club-based productions shot from the hip, wonderland has been constructed with a narrative in mind.from the clipped hardstyle of the opening curzon, through the jaunty dancehall mutations of animal style and fulledge, exotica/house refractions on hardnoise, the frankly ridiculous, bassbin destroying jungle ructions on sourcer, or the extended tease of overstaying, its probably the most enjoyable and loose-limbed hour of music in their catalogue, or that youll likely hear in these weird, angst-ridden times.

kepler. makes the second contribution to silencio s catalog with “planetary systems i”. with refined ethereal elements rendered from what is surely an eerie origin, “186f”, is truly engaging. this track is fueled with a seductive synth heralded by haunting vocals that effectively whisper over its steady, punchy bass line. meandering in the background is the type of idiophone sound one would associate with a hand-percussion triangle instrument. its particular effect provides a complex, rolling rhythm that vibrates in a beautiful tone until its objective has been achieved. on the b-side “452b” is a great track to open up a set with, gentle yet still energetic in how it introduces itself to the audience. it begins with a series of echoing sounds that rise and dive throughout, seemingly reflected off the surface of one’s subconscious, in a satisfying manner. accompanied by a deep pulsating bass line that accents its driving drums, this track will set the tone time and time again. imagine the dawning of a realization formed from an inspiring event in nature. the second track, “luzon”, features a laid back tropical tempo and samples that feel transported from a lush, rhythmic rainforest. kepler expresses this vision within the confines of a catchy groove, utilizing subtle bird sounds and rattles that resonate over layers of atmospheric synth. this is emotional music meant to move a crowd or manufacture a sincere moment of clarity.

mono junk’s cult label dum records is back with a new five track various artists ep that again packs a vital punch. he appears himself along with some fellow legends of the scene. first up, morpholgy is a consistent performer who has continued to serve up quality electro since 2009 and here serves up a hot new piece. ‘vector plant’ is busy and industrial, slick and metallic as it unfolds and burrows deep into your veins. then comes the a2, irwin berg featuring freestyle man (aka finnish moodmusic boss sasse aka klas lindblad) with a track made in 1995 and never released before. this pair worked together and made a cult electro record for sähkö recordigs in 1998 and this one is just as impactful. it is frosty and frazzled, slow motion but high impact and full of distorted lines and heavy drums. next is mr velcro fastener who were the first kings of electro to come out of finland and between 1999 and 2006 were famous all over the world. their brand new cut ‘almost there’ is a deep one that is riddled with bleeping melodies and has smeared chords bringing a sci-fi feel. then it is mono junk’s turn to dive into the vaults with an unreleased track from 2005. ‘feeling or destroy’ is a physical number with crashing hits and snaking, gurgling bass that is dark and dystopian. last of all comes irwin berg with mono junk as new york city survivors. says the dum boss, “our unreleased track here was made after the new york city survivors – static light cd 2002” and it is a turbo charged track with screwed up grinding bass, icy hi hat rhythms and menace in its grooves.
