medical records continues it s fascination with all things mark van hoen this time presenting the sole album release by autocreation entitled mettle . autocreation was formed in 1992 when mark van hoen was roomates in west london with the other members kevin hector and tara patterson. kevin and tara as dj s at the university of london, tara had recorded with the hafler trio prior to this the 3 lived in an apartment block that was full of acid house devotees, djs, and house producers. the 3 friends spent a lot of time in cutting-edge london clubs which inspired and influenced their music. a remix they worked on - seefeel s -plainsong- became the blueprint the autocreation sound, as well as feeding back into seefeel s sound on their own subsequent material. autocreation were heavily influcenced by contemporary dub techno such as basic channel, mika vanio as well as more pure techno such as kirk degiorgio and jeff mills. they recorded the album in late 1993, sandwiched between the recording of van hoen s locust album weathered well and his collaboration with seefeel s darren seymour aurobindo:involution . the album notably features heavy use of modular synthesizers (aries 300, digisound 80 and others), quite unique for a techno record of the time. the album was released on the orb s label inter-modo on cd only - directly following the orb s collaboration with robert fripp (ffwd). artwork was designed by the designers republic - responsible for the vast majority of warp records catalog and various releases by the orb. the album is a dark, brooding ambient techno masterpiece. similar in vein to locust s weathered well but more techno/idm genre compliant that made it at times dance floor compatible. for this special edition (first time on vinyl), the album is expanded to a double lp featuring bonus tracks. the jacket is a gatefold featuring a montage of photos in the gatefold. specially remastered by mark van hoen. presented on limited edition high quality double 160-gram classic black vinyl. for fans of early locust, dark ambient techno, and early 90s dance floor friendly idm.

transit records 005, -without end hours“, comes loaded with phat, but definitely distinct dancefloor bangers that take the title of the ep quite literally. they cover a full night (and day) out in the club, and range from dark, technoish house („when your groove is mine-), over uplifting re-interpretations of classic house anthems (-without end hours-), and dystopian tech-house (negativ dekadent remix), through to sizzling after hour house (zuckermann remix). ryoma sasaki’s originals show his love for classic electronic music blueprints and how he is able to turn them creatively into something compellingly fresh and contemporary. it feels like listening (and dancing) to something you know, but not from the past, more so from the now. and while they wonderfully work in that now of the night, negativ dekadent turns this familiar feeling into an uneasiness with the future, only to make you forget about it in the abyss of his beats and overwhelming synth patterns just before the morning breaks. finally, zuckermann fully beams you into the slightly distorted new world you might find yourself in anyway at 11 am on a beautiful sunny morning on one of those (berlin) dancefloors.

if you’re setting out on an epic voyage to the electronic disco universe, it pays to recruit an experienced pilot. when it comes to intergalactic musical fusion, few are quite as experienced as cosmic disco pioneer and noted dancefloor explorer daniele baldelli. produced alongside friend and regular studio partner dario piana, zero gravity cannily updates baldelli’s early ‘80s cosmic disco blueprint for the 21st century. we think that the ep contains some of his strongest music to date, with each of the three cuts offering subtle nods to the italian maestro’s original cosmic club ethos. a-side “infinity machine” expertly combines many of baldelli’s greatest musical inspirations into one mind-bending late night workout. underpinned by a druggy, arpeggio style bassline, the track rises and falls through waves of funk-rock guitars, crunchy clavinet lines and intertwined synthesizer solos. throw in jammed-out electric pianos, and you have a near perfect fusion of cosmic disco and blazed funk-rock. the producer’s long-held love of african rhythms surfaces on “if you drive”, where bold acid bass, ricocheting percussion hits and weightless chords combine beautifully with starry melody lines and vintage analogue synthesizer motifs. it’s afro-cosmic for the nu-disco generation. a fine ep is completed by “air lock”, in which baldelli and piana pepper a rubbery, electrofunk-influenced groove with cascading synthesizer melodies, swirling pads and a swathe of fuzzy, eyes-closed guitar solos. it’s bold and assertive, but also as otherworldly and stratospheric as you’d expect from a pioneer at the peak of his powers.

now, if there was ever a record title that could make you look twice its gotta be this seminal slab of jacking chicago mayhem from maurice joshua & hot hands hula. released in the golden year of 1988 on the legendary trax label which was already in full flight and on a major roll at the time. it could have been easy to overlook i gotta big dick because of its (mildly) humorous, tongue in cheek title, but don t be fooled, this is one sleek, charged acid weapon, an early blueprint for the incoming ghetto house scene out of the chi perhaps? if you re somewhat prudish or easily offended by the lyrical content the guys were kind enough to include an instrumental version that jacks in all the right places! also included on this ep is the stone cold classic this is acid which was co-produced by lidell townsell that became an acid house anthem all the way from illinois to ilford. a true school chicago jam indeed! finishing out the ep is the almost apocalyptic acid of -feel the mood- that features a rap from kool rock steady, the combination of twisting 303 s, church-like organs and synths and kool s razor sharp rhymes make for a pretty heavy concoction, use this one wisely damage will occur on the dance-floor! remastered in conjunction with trax records, fully legit, now is the time to revisit a cornerstone of classic chicago house music, often imitated, never bettered!

born in the same star sign as joey negros sunshine band project, the super phonics are all about invoking that classic soulful 70s disco sound, but to an updated house blueprint, with a little bit of soul and funkn thrown in for good measure. performed by a stirling group of live musicians, including session players for groove armada, incognito, us3, the james taylor quartet, the brand new heavies and the herbaliser, you know the tunes are gonna be good to go! first up is their cover of the linda williams classic elevate our minds - a timeless soul number that has graced the decks of many a southport weekender as well as being recently sampled on ben westbeechs drum and bass smoocher get closer. the super phonics take it back to the raw, with this soul drenched cover. over on the flip, is the bands own composition have a good time, a jumping and pumping disco groover that should find favour on most open minded dancefloors.

almost a year on since his blueprint records debut, the london-based brazilian, vinicius honorio delivers the follow-up to sem rumo.

jeff mills once again indulges his passion for classic sci-fi with this 2cd re-imagining of the score to harry kleiner s titular 66 flick. it follows his -cyborg 2087- recreation and imaginary soundtracks for -the power- and -the occurence- with a deep voyage of discovery. but unlike the aforementioned, the original film plot - about a team of scientists who re miniaturized and dispatched inside a human body to fix a blood clot - thematic scales are inversed and we re drawn to mills inner, as opposed to outer, space-scapes. the action unfolds across 22 tracks and 2 cds, from bleepin, womb-like viscera and hazardous noise bursts through archetypal rhythm arrangements and fluid programming reflecting the man/machine, organic/synthesized themes of the film and his own alien/human aesthetic. it s wonderful to witness mills maturing as a composer and refining his art to something beyond a soundtrack for dancefloor rituals, but without ever losing his original blueprint, and showing that the line between cinematic imagination and dancefloor functions can be a very fine one.

the heavy industrial crunch and rubbery synths of fraks trademark sounds come to hypercolour with the four track berga magic ep. the swedish techno trio have been active since the late 1980s, issuing cassette tapes (and later, vinyl) filled with blueprint techno and electronica on their own boerft records label. following in the footsteps of severed heads, d.a.f. and devo, frak have truly embraced performance art and experimental minimalism over the years, never compromising, always innovating. the berga magic ep comes brimming with raw analogue explorations and delightfully incongruous noise.

this initial release on the new futurepast label marks davy’s first output as a producer, crystallizing his endeavours in the studio and bearing witness to his long-standing experiments in electronic music. built between london and berlin over the last four years, the long now lays down the blueprints for following ventures on the label: using old and new gear to create unique, obscure soundscapes both outside of memory and away from nostalgic projections of lost futures. in a timeless and precise collaboration, davy has brought together two historical figures for this release: 1990s r&s records associate david morley mixed the tracks, while simon davey of the exchange lent his renownedmastering skills to the project. temporality, time travel and perception are key concepts for davy, and not only in the ep’s title. the four stripped-down tracks move forwards, sidewards and backwards in a bid to get us lost – not in space but in what time might sound like should we be swimming through it. mysterious and ageless synths mesh with the beats of an unnamed drum machine under davy’s control. we move through a non-linear story told by three distinct forward-thinking techno titles: no memories planned, circular weeks and causal loop. finally, the titular ambient track pans out cinematically over the images left in our heads: an invitation to begin it all again in the long now...

a second release for londons future primitive records brings to the fore a new hand-picked selection of hard to find if not overlooked tracks from wolfgang voigt, dj guy and fernando corona, aka murcof. all of the music to feature on this four-track recast ep was previously subject to tape or cd only release. lifted from his only album as love inc., wolfgang voigt s income sits primo as the a1, holding firm 22 years after its original release. predating voigt s work as gas, its caustic chords, shimmering melodies and chilled 90bpm vibe render it a production borne from the classic dub techno blueprint of the early-to-mid 90s. an early take on slo-mo techno. the dat tapes of dj guy have again been raided, with future primitive joining a select cast of followers to rejuvenate the englishman s productions with an edit that appeared on his tape for crisis urbana. both b-side tracks botas de oro and secondary inspection theme come from murcof s one time terrestre alias, a project from the earl 2000s which fuses textural, slow-motion and minimal house sensibilities with mexican banda and norteno music aka nortec, a micro-sub-genre to come out of tijuana. loose percussion, swung drums and winding rhythms are made all the more esoteric through the subversively climactic nature of terrestre s music.

following releases on detroit underground, nachtstrom schallplatten, planet rhythm and blueprint records, gotshell releases his first ep on atrophic society. the colombian aficionado has been making waves across the world for his uncompromising take on the darker side of techno. his new ep ‘quarkcima’ is no different, with a thick slice of bass-heavy machine music made for late night body moving. ‘quarkcima’ follows a bleepy lead with layers of bass, building to a satisfying and tasteful crescendo, which steers clear of the tropes and uses frequencies to their fullest. it invokes a dark and foreboding atmosphere like a creeping black fog. first on remix duty is xhin, who takes the bleepy synth lead and twists it into a heavy-but-funky robotic jam, stark and cold on the surface but with plenty of heat underneath. jeff derringer takes the reins for the second remix, wielding the original parts masterfully into a dense, bassline-driven triplet groove that takes the vibe up a few notches. finally, label head vohkinne adds punch and percussion to his charged and clanging remix, which rounds out a fierce package in style. ‘quarkcima’ is four cuts of essential techno that will never leave your crate.

quickly becoming one to watch in the techno circles, john shima is making waves with his fresh approach to that classic detroit sound. his contribution for boe is nothing short of a stunning representation of underground electronic music. prototype is a sonic ode to industry: blueprinted in the motor city and forged in sheffield. it s heads down for the dance floor with shimmering metallic overtones and a side order of robot jack. ancient skies points more towards chicago stylings capturing the melancholy party vibe of early cajual records with crystal clear production skills and neat arrangements. transducer is groovy experimental techno that could have easily sat on the much-revered objet d art. it s electronic music that will stand the test of time. rounding off the ep in fine style is true distance. a stunning ambient piece with deep pads and swirling melodies that complement and round of the ep perfectly.

kenny dope and louie vegas nu-yorican soul project was responsible for some of the biggest underground club hits to come out of nyc throughout the 1990s, their collective vast musical knowledge, impeccable taste and legendary status as djs in the city only helped elevate them to the highest level.
the nervous track is a fine example of the duos deep musical heritage, originally released on nervous records in 1993 its deep pads, bassline and solid as a rock breakbeats captured the ears and minds of any self respecting dj or dancer who came within a hundred miles of it, the very definition of a classic! fusing the worlds of jazz, latin, hiphop and house maw set the blueprint for generations of djs and producers to come with records like this.

im jahr 2007 waren die amerikanischen mcs mystic (goodvibe), hezekiah (soulspazm) und dave ghetto (counterflow) in europa auf tour und machten auf ihrer love life-tour in wien halt. die drei umtriebigen mcs der underground-hip hop-szene begaben sich mit dj buzz, produzent und mitglied der turntablist/dj crew waxolutionists, über mehrere tage in sein buzzment studio und so entstand bislang unveröffentlichte musik, die dj buzz nun endlich zu einem 17-track starken album arrangiert hat, dass nun auch als limitierte edition der instrumentals auf dem personal records label von preddy tendergrass aus wien erscheint!

gent 88 is a deep and constantly shuffled oldschool techno bumper by producer mirko hecktor from munich with a striking triole bells theme and recurring female vocals. the track was produced as a homage to the early days of the belgian label r&s records, which was the blueprint label for releasing techno and house music on the european mainland. the homeless house remix, produced by berlin based moire patterns & dj kriton, takes the track back to chicago and into a massive club atmosphere with a stomping underground attitude.

prime numbers returns with a series of remixes of trus me favourites, including treatments from a host of current cherished producers. the 12 inch features the mdr records duo marcel dettmann & norman nodge. dettmann takes a diversion from his more familiar techno blueprint, working sweetmother into a tight house groove. intensifying all parts of the original he creates an insistent and deeply pressured production. on the flip good god gets dubbed & smudged into a beguiling ghostly haze. nodge completely reworks the mix stripping back & filtering the elements to fantastic effect. watch out for remixes from terrence dixon & dvs1 on part 2 in this series

second release on is records, the a-side, the future never was combines sparse beats and pads held together by a growling stuttered bass, which gives the track an industrial feel but on a techno/house tip. on the flip, fake the feeling, draws on sounds beyond the current trend for vintage analogue in an original take on the house blueprint. the b2 track out of orbit is 4 minutes 48 seconds of tech soul, for the floor or the headphones.
