the driving force of the shaolin afronuats is ross mchenry, the aria nominated composer, bandleader, producer and bassist based in adelaide. alongside co collaborators lachlan ridge and dylan marshall, it is their opmbined wide ranging musical tastes, impeccable production and instrumental skills that always result in music that is original, thought provoking, unexpected and quite beautiful.

m swift, aka shouhei matsushita is the talented instrumentalist and producer who hails from hiroshima, japan but has lived in london and has been wide open to musical influences from around the world. as a fan of soul and jazz from a young age he has absorbed all the best elements of classic and contemporary black music and forged a singular identity that enables him to stand out in a musical landscape of sound a likes and copyists. this latest release feeling is a 5 track 12inch inch that is the precursor to his latest full length album evening sun which will be released on freestyle records in time for the summer û the album and this 12inch spotlights m swifts soulful, funky house and jazz inflected rnb combined with the spectacular talents of renowned performers such as eric roberson, tony momrelle, joy rose and vanessa haynes and 24 carat whose combined talents makes for an uptempo, feel good record, quality contemporary soul for real music lovers.

another slice of wax from the recently liberated library album from the sound stylistics. recorded in 2002 for bruton the album has weaved its way into funk folklore for collectors the world over, becoming a word of mouth phenomena and a collectors wet dream due to its failure to ever get a proper release. despite file sharers, bootleggers and back street dealers pushing illegitimate copies of the tracks, the legendary status of this lost album has not waned one bit. consisting of a whos who of the london funk scene the band consists of, amongst others, members of jtq, jamiroquai, brand new heavies, the new mastersounds, galliano and the herbaliser. the players theme evokes the classic memphis soul stew by king curtis, with its creeping bass and layered instrumentation. bringing the drums to the fore, this is another guaranteed dancefloor filler! over on the flip soul dynamite swaggers with a similar style to speedometers most recent work, with some heavy horn action. once again, the breaks come thick and fast to keep your dancers sweating!

born in the same star sign as joey negros sunshine band project, the super phonics are all about invoking that classic soulful 70s disco sound, but to an updated house blueprint, with a little bit of soul and funkn thrown in for good measure. performed by a stirling group of live musicians, including session players for groove armada, incognito, us3, the james taylor quartet, the brand new heavies and the herbaliser, you know the tunes are gonna be good to go! first up is their cover of the linda williams classic elevate our minds - a timeless soul number that has graced the decks of many a southport weekender as well as being recently sampled on ben westbeechs drum and bass smoocher get closer. the super phonics take it back to the raw, with this soul drenched cover. over on the flip, is the bands own composition have a good time, a jumping and pumping disco groover that should find favour on most open minded dancefloors.
