the heavy industrial crunch and rubbery synths of fraks trademark sounds come to hypercolour with the four track berga magic ep. the swedish techno trio have been active since the late 1980s, issuing cassette tapes (and later, vinyl) filled with blueprint techno and electronica on their own boerft records label. following in the footsteps of severed heads, d.a.f. and devo, frak have truly embraced performance art and experimental minimalism over the years, never compromising, always innovating. the berga magic ep comes brimming with raw analogue explorations and delightfully incongruous noise.
frak – grown up guests
like a diy brick-shithouse frak feel like they are preparing for some nasty. kicking off the track with some serious drums. eerie synth lines and creepy bass pads lend for a slightly deranged and unsettling feel. there is a strange air about this track. tuff snares kick in that galvanise and ready the troops. the strange difference between the everyday title and the militant feel of the track makes for interesting concoction. its like a bunch of psychos preparing for a dinner party. sweeping the floor and combing their hair to precision. the house might look nice and the cake might be delicious, but these guys psychos.
jack pattern – kernkraft
kernkraft translates as nuclear power and from the outset reverberating sequences visualise a bleak working environment. mechanical sequences rotate. clouds of sparking particles swirl overhead menacingly. a kick drum stumbles into actions, the machine has powered up. cold hi-hats shimmer, and hollow synths give the feel of some sort of labouring workforce continuing their daily grind. this doesn t feel like a nice environment to live in and reflects the reality of some peoples everyday life. living to work for the greater good and sacrificing their lives in the process. it is a powerful piece. strong, monotonous and mechanical.
femur rec makes its debut as a recording label with a 12 by the scandinavian trio, frak. there is not much we can add about these three brilliant swedish artists, as their decade-long careers begin in the mid-eighties and is full of references in well-known labels as börft records, lux records or dark entries.
a long time ago, at a festival far, far away, the members of the legendary borft trio frak were just going to bed in their tent when something caught their attention. now, this was well before fraks rise to international fame - in fact, this moment was swedish music history in the making, because what they heard was someone playing a frak tune. that someone turned out to be kontra-musiks own ulf eriksson and once their paths had crossed, there was no turning back. frak has since released five highly sought after records on kontra-musik and kontra-musik white label.
since 1987, frak have been everyone s favourite, premier swedish synthesizer-touching weirdos. even if most people hadn t heard of them until 4 years ago. and yet, world of frak is as long as it is wide. as blue as it is black. as ominous as it is glorious. as dirty as it is hairdryer. sweet it is as yellow paper as. all of the above is a perfect example of how trying to convey what frak is in the crass form of words is ultimately fruitless. here is a double 12inch vinyl product from ultimate hits featuring eight audio recordings from frak: three men who have known each other since at least 1987. the sleeve was lovingly hand screen-printed at the studio of house of traps, and features the colours commonly known as pink and black.
nice price deal !!! frak are björn isgren, johan sturesson and jan svensson, a trio of synthesizer lovers from sweden. the band was formed when svensson and isgren’s older sisters were best friends and they introduced their little brothers to each other. inspired by severed heads, daf, human league, devo, skinny puppy, the boys began collecting analog equipment and started studio styrka. while the band were still in their early teens they released the first frak cassette album in 1987 on their own record label börft.
your favorite foil faced machine heads, frak, on lux rec. big tip! nordic woods are a dangerously primitive place. fueled with madness and induced delirium frak land on planet lux. three slow, acid numbers with a barbaric, crude attitude. relentless drums. fierce, hypnotic synthesizers that get you lost in your own mind. suddenly sinister, disastrous images populate your consciousness. and then one last strange, twisted wave track. new places, new adventures
it has been over a year since the last schmorgasbord release dropped, which saw al tourettes (better known now as second storey) rubbing up against paradroid in a mix up of electro, techno and electronica styles. now the label returns with bass clef and frak, who were asked to each commit a half-finished sketch of a track to tape, exchange tapes and finish off each others tracks. bass clef has been a strong solo force on the electronic music scene since he first emerged in the wider bass music field in 2006, and has since released on idle hands, punch drunk, pan and public information as well as running his own magic + dreams imprint. swedish trio frak have been releasing since their debut album in 1987 when they were thirteen years old. the swedish trio have been active for most of that time, running borft records and releasing a huge amount of music as well as performing live. in recent years they have enjoyed more recognition with releases on kontra musik, digitalis and sex tags mania. schmorgasbord launched in 2011 with a release that saw appleblim and october collaborating for the first time. it was followed up by a release from s-max and spatial.
by now, frak needs no formal introduction. lets just say they are the swedish house mafia for people who actually know what house music is. lately, there has been somewhat of a surge in house and techno influenced by synth, ebm and obscure sub-genres that ends with >wave<. so the timing couldnt be better for frak to return to kontra-musik with this remarkable synth and acid flavoured release.
second release on midlight, by the notorious frak, is in sight. one mighty tune on each side, both nearly 10 minutes. this mysterious group from sweden has a history rooted in the late 80s releasing cassettes, later many tripped out releases and lauded livesets. this fresh 12inch gives proof, once more, of their intriguingly stripped sound. first limited pressing comes with a limited inlay. get ready for a fix!
nice price deal !!! this 12inch contains some true oddities. frak is not known for doing remixes but here is one of the few that exists. a nice acid remix of dave id - soul reprise. also they did a special track to finish off the 2013 tours and heres the splendid studio version of phase.
raw pulsating and sinister nordic monotone electronix recorded in 1993 by frak released on borft as cassette, and now 20 years later finally on vinyl thanks to ideal records from sweden. analogue to analogue.
second press of this classic splitlp from 2003. a period in borfts history that was very silent and strange. wicked, minimal, dark & funky electronic dance- stuff. the original press was a co-production together with te records
kontra-musik releases another limited frak white label. on the a-side and the track wobbler frak leaves karlskrona for a short visit in omar-s detroit. the b-side drops some true styrka studio modular funk.
swedens (almost) unknown techno veterans börft records we have played and seeded wizely through out the years - to be honest, weve hid their treasures for years too. forget all you know about swedish electronic music, this is börft crew, the core underground of söta brorstechno history - here represented by frak - a full out techno acid punch.
with our next release kontra-musik launches a new white label series. the sound will be a bit rougher and punky but still with quality and uniqueness as main focus. first out is the trio frak – sweden’s best-kept techno secret. why not keep it that way? limited 200 copies!
eshu records hits release number ten with a new ep from the in-house production collective made up of jocelyn abell, ivano tetelepta and daniel lekatompessy. fraktur features six tracks of stripped back house and techno that are all atmospheric and heady. opener winter track is a smooth and rolling dub techno number that is grainy and economical yet hugely absorbing thanks to its circling synth details and woody drums. creating moods is even more expansive and spacious, with gently swirling pads enveloping a soft, broken rubber kick drum. the title track is another expertly distilled, dry and heady groove with its frayed edges and warm analogue feel, then hello really flips the script with over driven jeff mills kicks and intergalactic synths bring a spooky sci-fi feel to proceedings. yorubaland is then a cosmic ambient interlude with fax tones bleeping and blipping as lazy pads smear out in the background and last of all core comes on strong with more quick and slick intergalactic techno carrying you off to some distant planet. this is another faultless ep from this fine dutch collective. pressed on 180 grams vinyl.
acid night keeps on quatting the 303 new generation. and goes to mr from rehkold and tomeen. in italy. for 4 4-tracker opening on an psychedelic hard tribe 170 bpm grower. then begins a 150 bpm hard techno acid hanging-on track. b-side opens with a break acid digger, carrying a 70s synth ambiance in the backward. finally, the last tune returns back to the 170 bpm wiith a cool story of acid waves searching the digging possible way
