ltd 2019 repress !! folamour comes here with a crossover 12-, exploring the whole spectrum of human emotion through his personal vision of a journey. the vinyl record starts with novalaise, sweet memory of the french country where the producer s from. the track builds itself up around a slow progression of a catchy acoustic piano loop. the listen goes on with la pierre et le sabre, in which folamour spreads his love for french 90 s house vibes, paying tribute to soul and gospel, two genres that mainly influence him. b-side starts with rue d amsterdam, an undeniably hip-hop influenced track on which folamour develops keyboards, bass and vocal samples around a rough beat, taking the listener away on an inescapable urban dream. the record ends with l Île des gauchers, bewitching song inspired by folamour s literary ravings (alexandre jardin in particular). the track progression can be compared as a book reading, rocked byan ubiquitous bassline, attending its voices until the last furrow.

never underestimate the power of a good bassline. mark du mosch certainly doesn’t. this veteran from the harbor city of rotterdam let’s his vicious bass line creep up on you from behind on 202 ac ra. a dark and jacking club belter with clear chicago roots. the five track ep the heavens may be his debut on sohaso, du mosch has been releasing music for over fourteen years on a variety of respected underground labels, such as moustache, dekmantel and royal oak. his versatile style draws on sounds that evoke strong mental imagery and a sense of eternity, which clearly shows on the introspective resonance delay (she) on the b-side. in which a melancholic melody is supported by muffled slow motion beats. the beautiful artwork on the heavens ep is by joost stokhof, an amsterdam based graphic designer who is known for his love for detail. which makes him perfectly suited for du mosch’ subtle and well crafted dance tunes. in a normal world you would open your ep with the title track. du mosch chooses to close with it. the heavens stays true to it’s name. a harp like melody that washes ashore as foam from a greyblue northsea that calmed down after the storm. heaven indeed

ever-impressing uk talent james dexter makes a return to bondage-music this december as he drops his latest three track ep lets go back. 2018 has been a substantial year for london based dj and producer james dexter, with appearances at the likes of fabric (london), claire (amsterdam) and sash (sydney) and releases on little helpers, gruuv, deeperfect and his own inermu imprint in the past 12 months alone. with the new year in sight, here we find three new fresh productions in the form of his lets go back ep, marking a return to bondage music in the process following his recent remix of frinks sofisticate on the imprint. title cut lets go back opens proceedings as dexter reveals an up-front, bumping cut armed with crunchy drum licks, infectious vocal samples and rich, airy chords, before simple things utlises further rich and soulful vocals alongside crisp skipping hats and resonant kicks to guide the production through seven minutes of groove driven house music. last up, dexters roll through pairs refined, stripped back organic percussion arrangements with wandering synth lines and vocal coos to wrap up the ep in fine fashion.

reissue of this rare nigerian/ghana funk record. incl. the jam african soul power which you might have heard getting spins in the clubs. incl. a poster+extensive liner notes. fela kuti believed the identical twins of basa basa to possess magical powers, bringing luck and prosperity. fela co-produced their first lp, and played on their second. but the wondrous powers of the nyaku twins from ghana reached their summit on their third album, which basa basa recorded with producer and multi-instrumentalist themba t-fire matebese in nigeria. this collaboration resulted in the bewitching homowo album, which combines the earthy mood of the twins and the futuristic vision of themba matebese as well as the hot and sweaty afro disco sound of lagos, where the album was recorded. from the blue title track homowo to the afro disco floor burner african soul power, the album makes a consistent listen. amsterdam based dj collective and vinyl shop vintage voudou makes the highly sought-after lp available again after almost four decades, working in close collaboration with the artists.

domesica’s collaboration with dutch label tope tape, originally founded in the mid-80s by menko konings and recently reborn, allowed them to reissue the mythical s.m nurse album-cassette. and now – here is their first vinyl release: boyz in parx “passion”, a selection of lovely never-released tracks by this mysterious amsterdam act, active from 1983 to 1993, with the line-up of peter van garderen, founder of the legendary nine circles, and robby horsfall (†2013), also known from no honey from these e.g.

strange alliances holds two striking and contemporary tracks by the tel aviv native – who also has releases out on turbo and life and death - plus remixes by trikk and rebolledo. and so it seems the amsterdam based label has another winner on their hands. with autarkic having an exceptional personality one would expect the same from his music. and this is exactly what you get with strange alliances, as his originality shines through on both tracks. interesting fact is that autarkic used a lot of live instruments and his own vocals on both tracks, adding to the ingenuity of the dgtl 006 release.

“wit blad” is the result of a beautiful collaborative project that started with illustrator joost stokhof. he was asked as an artist in residence for amsterdam’s hortus botanicus, a place where joost locked himself up for a week alongside the finest biodiversity in the city. joost asked eefje de visser to join him for a day and eefje asked nuno dos santos to form a powerful trinity of which “wit blad” is the unmistakable evidence.

amsterdam, nl: 12 months ago we concluded a series of experiments with a test subject named ben penn. a year on, we decided to repeat this experiment at his tilburg base. once again, the results were startling.

after last years excellent discoveries from volume 1, another batch of lost and unreleased dutch (cassette) material is coming back to the future. for this sequel we dug deep into the dutch lowlands and again found some independent music thats still relevant today. in the process we met even more amazing musicians and heard great stories from a distant-not-so-distant past. expect a wide palette of diy and experimental sounds by artists from groningen, zwolle, arnhem, the hague, rotterdam, tilburg and deurne. volume 2 will also feature a beautifully designed inlay with liner notes in dutch and english. mastered by wouter brandenburg, designed by steele bonus and compiled by mark van de maat.

jack roland pulls apart the control mechanisms of the club environment and the way this living and breathing installation can be a tool of elevation or suppression. using club sounds as instruments for this idea, control / applications is a split release born out of amsterdam s warehouse scene, fusing together electro matrix rhythms, idm, with warped hums and breaks used by dancers and performers heading up the rave. with a track on our future works iii comp last year, this is his debut record on the label: a release challenging superstructures buried among the sweat particles of the floor.

the man, the myth, the legend, back in the 80s jesse rae, along with roger troutman and bernie worrell, was part of the p-funk movement that was hugely influential to detroit’s early electronic experiments. lesser known is that the enigmatic scot-funk warrior later produced underground electronic tracks in the 90s. the inaugural release on glasgow label southside shufflers presents two of jesses shufflers on vinyl for the first time on the global 95 ep- a sampler from his pioneering 1995 album compression. ever the innovator, jesse recorded the album collaboratively using live isdn technology spanning three continents, with the resultant tracks fusing african, us electro-funk and old scots influences. 23 years later, jesse’s under the radar shufflers sound more relevant than ever. southside shufflers are a record label and sports collective based in glasgow with outposts in london and amsterdam. sss aint no half steppin!

a new ep from amsterdam based producer daniel jacques, titled last jaar, will follow up the exclusive ep from mysterious japanese producer shinichi atobe from 2016. last jaar will be released on jacques’ own jadac recordings record label and on this ep, he is bridging the gap between house, techno and r&b music.

5 would be the key number for the brand new chateau flight release on versatile. its been 5 years since the last release and it took 5 days to record. nicolas (i:cube) was busy with his own material, i moved to amsterdam 3 years ago and as we like to make music in the same space. it took a bit of time but finally it s here, the dam house ep. i invited nicolas to visit me last winter, not to do music but just for a cool adam hang out. this turned into 5 intense days of fun production in my studio. it was amazing for both of us to witness how our connection remained intact after all those years and the ideas came really quick. the vibes of the tracks all turned out pretty different, it s a true chateau flight kaleidoscope with an epic 10mn techno track sargan, a more house vibe, crazy (dam house mix), a heavy dark funk drive of lo and the ambient crazy(ambient mix). this record would have not been the same without redlight records,to whom this records dedicated. james and abel left their shop open at night just for us and as children in a candy store we went through the racks looking for samples that formed the inspiration for this ep.

up next on amsterdam’s format label is a four-tracker featuring original cuts and remixes by matrixxman, echologist and label boss juan sanchez himself.
the fourteenth format release is definitely one not to miss out on, as it offers material from some of today s most sought-after techno heads. up first is expiration, a joint effort from matrixxman and echologist. this one combines matrixxman’s signature bass and echologist’s one-of-a-kind dub techno flavors across a very trippy canvas. format’s juan sanchez follows with a dark and synth-heavy rework of the track. on fokus, juan displays a more melodic cut propelled by a playful groove. closing things off, matrixxman and echologist turn fokus into a crushing techno track filled with sweeping fx.
format continues with another strong release that’s destined to do the damage.

on the third release on his label, malin genie teams up with amsterdam resident and will & ink regular yaleesa hall for a trip into dubbed out techno and house territory. the ep opens with -oganesson,- an immersive track pivoting around gnarled, shape-shifting dub techno chords. -84- is a more energised cut, using a similar central melodic thread but driving it with a sprightly beat and playful threads of synth expression. -tournant- places the emphasis on textural sound design, embellishing a rugged techno rhythm with sonic matter that takes on an organic quality as it pulses and writhes around the beat. -coronal loop- finishes the ep off with an appropriately star-gazing jam that uses delay and reverb to great effect to create a sense of space in which nimble chord lines and other flourishes can cavort freely.

music from memory return with a further six tracks from dutch musician richenel. continuing with recordings taken from his debut album la diferencia, originally released in 1982 on the cult amsterdam cassette only label fetisj, the tracks on music from memorys second ep perfect stranger includes alternate takes drawn from richenel’s personal copy of the album alongside a further composition which didnt make it onto the original fetisj cassette.
