approaching complexity is tangent�s sophomore album release for n5md, a label that has seen accomplished releases from the likes of near the parenthesis, bvdub, and loess among others. throughout its nine offerings, the record features a gorgeous contemplative piano that hangs in the air amidst static clicks and dense atmospheres. its delicate touch feels both melancholic and stirring, as exemplified on tracks �equilibrium i (ii & ii)� and �awaken.� the latter cut is a fascinating work comprised of nearly inaudible whisper-song vocals and swelling ambience, its waves a thick froth of a toppled surf underneath tickled ivory. like the rise and fall of a heavy chest, this sound leads to the track�s conclusion, an elongated departure of breath.

this is something in between underground & commercial in a good way... patricio cabezas is an experienced musician and producer, born in chile but lives and works in sweden. after years as a touring bass player, he dedicated himself to start programming synthesizers and producing electronic music. in his music, cabezas embraces the grey zones and in-between-ness that formed him since childhood. he approaches music the same way, discovering and experimenting, almost hybridize genres and moves between live and programmed performances. in 2015 the tom ep was released under his alias this other space on tasteful nudes/argot. cabezas is also working in collaboration with dagfest (paper recordings, bearded man, melodica) and 95kbps (krater).

2u4u is a collection of 16 versions, covers, rearrangements and interpretations of the music of jay dee, j dilla, the one and only james yancey. played and recorded live by fat albert einstein with the help of tylana renga playing violin and peter jacobson on cello, for move and labcabin strings. adam reece lends a hand on bass for dub dilla. the end result is a collection of songs ranging from the delicate and sincere gentle rain, the almost true textbook touch, to the devastatingly triumphant eternal fire.

attempting to pigeonhole 79.5 into something as narrow as a single genre would be an ill advised, if not impossible task. the new york city band sounds like someone spinning a radio dial with such passionate intensity that all the stations blend together into a single, transcendent, almost spiritual force. its disco to the beat of modern house, its a supremes cover of a cardi b banger, its roland kirk playing jazz through one saxophone, funk through another, and the most earwormy pop tune the 1970s could muster through a third. its an experience one so effecting that with only a self-released 12inch single in circulation, 79.5 had been written up twice in the new yorker on the merit of their live sets alone. their debut album predictions is produced by leon michels and was recorded at the diamond mine in queens the old school way, with the whole band playing the songs in one take and captured to analog tape.

italian scifi producer and sound designer oisel joins the warm up family with this extended ep, offering four cuts in the physical version and 7 in the digital release, this is almost an album that showcases the great studio skills of this young talent, with tracks of diverse approach ranging from direct exercises to more mental and layered.

an all-time rave classic gets the gerd janson re-loving as he works his magic on the 1992 anthem dont go. 26 years on from it s first release, gerd takes the tempo down a notch laying out that all too familiar drum break, instantly recognisable piano line and julie mcdermott s timeless vocals. his subtle touches and added weight, behind a pounding kick, are sure to set any dancefloor alight. about as euphoric as they get - if this doesn t do the business then god help us all. on the b side, belfast s ejeca flips don t go into a heavy-hitting, rave tinged, techno bomb. his inventive sampling turns the synth stabs and vocals on their heads, making them almost indistinguishable, but no less impactful, from the original. it s over four and a half minutes till the iconic chord progression is heard in it s initial form, before ejeca throws it back into a rapid fire, industrial thumper. lastly, gerd serves up a vip dub mix echoing claps and synth lines into the stratosphere, whilst leaving the vocals at bay, save a short cry of don t go from julie towards the end of the track, allowing those anthemic elements to do the talking. a modern touch on an all-time classic from gerd with a complete reinterpretation from ejeca, this is a heavyweight release and one thats already being played by the biggest and the best out there.

only few artists have managed to develop their own distinct style to such perfection as abe, while remaining almost entirely unknown to the public ear. he dwells in minimal music, abstract structure and well-crafted melancholia. -peasants sought instead- itself is heavily influenced by modern classical music, modal jazz and world music and is at times demanding, while remaining slightly subdued. style-wise it can be seen as ambient, though abe doesn t feel completely at home in this genre, because of its emphasis on atmosphere rather than structure. recorded at abe s home in rotterdam, it is his strongest work to date and already highly appreciated by some of the most exquisit selectors around.

mika visited the moog sound-lab in april 2015. he made one his last known solo studio recordings in the form of two vinyl sized side long pieces. entitled �lydspor� - danish for �soundtrack�. mika worked almost exclusively with the lab�s moog modular system 55.
this uk sound -lab instrument is the sole protoype model (containing several golden filters) of moog�s recent sold out reverse-engineered edition (55 units only) recreating the 1970�s classic.
on completion of his sessions mika announced �i could work with this machine for the rest of my life�.i would need nothing else�.
a second moog session was planned but tragically mika died in an accident in april 2017, shortly after he had approved the vinyl mastering.

children of tomorrow will celebrate soon its 10 years anniversary. the label was created by emmanuel ternois back in the day and being joined by arnaud le texier in 2011. since then they focused on techno producing amazing artists, to name few: terrence dixon, zadig, tensal, antigone, oscar mulero, jonas kopp, samuli kemppi etc... children of tomorrow is now presenting the first album from arnaud le texier. after almost 30 years dj-ing around the world and almost 20 years producing. signing many releases over the years and always busy delivering dance floor releases, it s been a long wait to finally get an album from arnaudon his first album we can feel that he wanted to tell a story and to express something deeper with his production experience. there is a different variety of techno that stretches from ambient / broken beat / hypnotic / raw techno along with subtles grooves, wondrous atmospheres & sonic textures. on a side the album opens with dusk, an ambient atmospheric mid-tempo track with sonic sounds that is a perfect intro.pattern 2 starts with drones and blip sounds and a broken beat groove follows with a pad that sounds like a voice coming from the space. the track ends with some modular click sounds that make the whole track clever. followed by the album title granular therapy, a deep techno track with modular bass line and melancholic pad. a perfect track to play in after or to warm up a party.the b side is more dedicated to the dance floor with black nympheas that is a proper dark modern techno with a grinding bass line and magic drones. a simple beat makes the track evolve in a nice way. blade pass frequency is 4/4 effective techno with a 909 kick, a syncope acid bass line and a pad that sends you to another dimension. it is a powerful track but with a sense of deepness and sensibility that arnaud can achieve sometimes. this side closes with binary sun dawn which is an ambient track with melody that has a jazz feeling mixed with dark atmospheres, sonic drones and water drops. the c side opens with mono driver, a minimal track with a little synth that stays until the end repetitively until it makes you travel and lose your mind. deep and dance floor at the same time.

cassegrain announce collaborative ep. the berlin based duo of alex tsiridis & hüseyin evirgen will release new work recorded alongside dj nobu, tensal & lady starlight via their own arcing seas imprint in september. leaning towards the more heady, high octane end of the genre - the three track ep showcases the duos natural affinity for collaboration, maintaining evirgen & tsiridis characteristic finish and atten-tion to detail, whilst providing ample space for the guests to properly colour the work. ct01, alongside tensal, marries caustic drones with a potent lead sequence to produce a perfect peak time roller, whilst cn01, with dj nobu, riffs on a more melodic, stepping approach - maintaining that same rousing energy, but with a more psychedelic bent. cls01, the duos collaboration with la-dy starlight comes in at almost 11 minutes, an ambient techno journey that warps and shifts organi-cally across its extended run time - complete with beat-less intro and multiple segues that work to bind the piece and its different sections into one, cohesive narrative. effective and impeccably produced - but with a keen ear for new & exciting sonics within the genre - this first collaborative outing proves an enviable addition to the duos already impressive discogra-phy.

�neverending story� opens with �a dimension reflected� and its introductory mixture of keys and beats. the beat is built upon piece by piece, while slippery synths fill in the upper registers. the second track, �planet texture�, opens with a blossoming pad which is soon joined by a steady kick and some bouncing synths. before long an adventurous bassline joins in and puts the track into full groove mode. there�s a twinkling synth floating above it all, sometimes present, sometimes not, making you wonder if you�re really hearing it at all. next up is the first track on the b-side, �old problems�. filled with little samples and microsounds, the track uses its beat to push through heady and sometimes disorientating array of colours that swirl across the track. a wide synth enters affairs a third of the way in and helps push the track out onto the dancefloor. �neverending story� comes next, featuring a skittering beat and atmospherics that seem to come from far away. a low bassline pops in and out of the track here and there, while pondersome some keys complete the mood. the ep closes with �algorithm�, another scrambled, unpredictable track. the track opens with a rainbow of keys and synths, darting between your ears in their affected manner. an almost glitchy ambient track, it brings to a calm close a fantastic release.

jaffa surfa also known as zoltan pal is hailing from hungary and has released a few records already on other labels like tape hiss for example that already caught our attention a bit earlier. therefor we were quite happy to receive a demo from him and we signed almost all the tracks that he sent us. three tracks aiming straight at the dance floor and we hope that you enjoy and play them as much as we do.

new yorks avision makes his debut on ben sims hardgroove imprint with culture, an ep comprising four memorable and kinetic techno cuts and including an edit from sims himself. having previously cropped up on mark brooms beard man imprint, avision (real name anthony cardinale) has a knack for turning in gritty grooves that draw on earthy, discoid constructs and thats exactly what we have here with culture. from the eponymous opener throughout, staccato stabs characterise and propel the tracks in different ways whether via rolling, almost-there disco loops, gleefully abrasive call and response rhythms or, in the case of sims edit of jux, nifty vocal sample interplay. true to hardgroove form, culture is a release crafted for the dancefloor and delivers with exacting precision.

from the heart of macedonia comes herzel with his first ep for uncanny valley. the four tracks point him out as an expert for creating tracks on the blurred line between rave and darkness. if you are listening on a proper sound system, it is almost impossible not to be moved by the mighty drones of forms that almost feel like tectonic shifts. glide runs in similar veines and brings power to the dance floor with rolling bass synths and sublime pads. a little more straightforward is glowworms with sharp drums and an acidic synth theme only to finally merge into an elegiac climax. finally, two hits hard with slapping synths and a dubby bass line, a gripping yet somehow nasty track.

the recording sessions for rastrumentals took place over seven years, between são paulo and brixton, but the roots of the project stretch back to the arrival of digistep�s father in 1970s bristol. aged 18 he had almost nothing to his name, apart from his treasured vinyl collection. these records are still in the family, and have been invaluable in shaping dubkasm�s unique sound. rastrumentals combines samba instruments such as the cavaquinho, pandeiro and cuica with the work of some of the uk�s greatest reggae musicians.

crazy 12 track library music style album on this ace italian label. all based around bumping live rhythms triggering an obscure japanese drum synth module recorded in 2018. it was november 2017 when i received a call from an old friend, hi fabrizio, i found a rare japanese drum machine, you should come and see it before i put this on ebay. i went to check it out and immediately realized it had more potential than just drum sounds generation, it was able to produce quirky and creepy sounds if triggered by any sound source. so i bought it and brought in the studio, where me and alex were laying down new beats and ideas. it took just three days of jams to get the skeleton of this record done: i programmed the module to receive alex s drum hits and the device started creating synth lines, almost as it was speaking its own language.i ve found a soul in this machine, and i wanted to bring it to life in these tracks, a mix of arranged compositions and improvised jams. no root keys, no grids, no clicks, everything came out in an instinctive and natural way as far as we know it s the first time this synthesizer/drum machine is been used in this improper and new way.

realistic monk is the new performance project from carl stone in collaboration with artist and composer miki yui. carl stone is one of the pioneers of live computer music and has been composing electro-acoustic music almost exclusively since 1972.

forgoing traditional melody and song-writing, eskers distinctive sound focuses on the interplay between noise, texture and rhythm. voitax is happy to present her stunning debut ep, which was assembled from various recording sessions over the past two years. formerly a drummer and guitarist in various bands in melbournes noise scene, the influence of her past is evident in this record - a combination of processed guitar, mangled samples and bizarre, ghostly synthesis form a deep and complex sonic space. the effect of almost a decade in berlin is just as clearly heard in the eps thumping techno pulse. wielded with a drummers feel for timing and meter, phasing rhythms, crunching lo-fi percussion and thundering kicks provide a solid backbone. having become absorbed in techno culture, this is her contribution.

that summer i developed somewhat of an obsession with tonto�s expanding head band after having seen them perform at the big chill festival that year. the music blew my mind. later upon my return to civilisation and the ensuing research which then began in earnest i became as much blown away by the enormous t.o.n.t.o. (the original new timbral orchestra) modular synthesizer that had created the music as i was by the music itself. built in the early 70s, it s still the largest synthesizer around today. with the live show still resonating in my head i tracked down everything tonto had ever recorded. one of these tracks was an obscure outtake from the time t.o.n.t.o.�s creators, malcolm cecil and robert margouleff, were producing and engineering for stevie wonder in the �70s(https://youtu.be/wuaszff7yq0). the track, bittersweet, only ever appeared on a highly limited self-released cd put together to coincide with their appearance at the big chill. consequently i featured it on a few mixes i did over the years and invariably i�d be asked �what�s that track?� by those with an ear for something unique. and invariably these same people, many of them djs, would turn away disgruntled when i informed them it was cd only. although i didn t know it at the time, the seed was definitely sown for this vinyl compilation that you now hold in your hands.

this release is individually 200 hand-numbered limited edition cassette (100 pink and 100 smoke transparent) with a sort of greatest hits of (almost) all archeo releases (ar001-ar011) + an unreleased bonus track from roberto aglieri (ticino parte 4 il merlo), celebrating 3 years of the label, from 2014 to 2017 selected with love by manu archeo (ar001c). archeo recordings is a reissue record label that regenerates old, lost, obscure and forgotten rare gems of predominantly italian music but also all over the world of the 70s, 80s and 90s. all outputs are licensed by the artists and the vintage labels, audio tracks are remastered in their original form the sleeves and center labels are graphically recreated for today but all based on the original images. archeo would like to make the music available to a wider audience of collectors, djs, music lovers of a forgotten time. all releases are hand-numbered limited edition vinyl. the first copies of each release are pressed in coloured vinyls.

in many ways, it s difficult to believe wehbba only dropped his first full-length ep on drumcode this year. released in february, the four-tracker eclipse was a monster statement piece of the brazilians talents and followed on superbly from fake, his contribution to last year s a-sides vol.6 inarguably one of the biggest tracks on the compilation. with the confirmation that wehbba will take part in drumcode s off week party in barcelona, followed by the brand s takeover of resistance in ibiza, its indisputable proof that his crisp, chord-driven take on techno has become a vital component to the expansive palette of sound adam beyer has drawn for the label in 2018 and beyond. catarse marks the rapid-fire follow-up from the prolific producer. opening with the eerie she lost control, wehbba says he took inspiration from the joy division track of almost the same name (�she s lost control ), but instead of crafting the dense sonic atmosphere with vocals, he employs an analogue kick drum and stealth-like moog bass with dramatic results. process follows, a cut which begun as a cover jam of laurent garnier s crispy bacon and ends up incorporating the cut-up vocals of legendary minimal composer steve reich, who is one of wehbba s chief inspirators. the resulting track is an ice-cool percussive work that s rich in dancefloor functionalism. the title track will be familiar to many who follow drumcode radio, a goose-bump inducing highlight of beyers dcr392 at awakenings in eindhoven, catarse is driven by a memorable melodic riff resplendent in 90s techno euphoria. the ep concludes with the terrific mind awake, a powerful concoction of reverb heavy basslines and glitchy effects, that s been thoroughly road tested by both beyer and wehbba and kicks like a rodeo bull.

glasgow s wheelman provides the tenth iteration of dba s dubs series, following a series of high profile releases on huntleys & palmers, studio barnhus, and his own stereotone label. signal is wheelman s most ambitious effort to date, its searing amen stabs and deep sub bass guaranteed to wreck any club, while floating pads and crystalline strings add a bittersweet moment of rave nostalgia to the breakdown. on the flip, in line with the dba dubs concept of pairing a house track from an up and coming uk producer with a remix by an established techno name from across the pond, detroit in effect provide a cold, bleep-drenched take which raises the tempo of wheelman s original to an almost breakneck speed. d.i.e, also known as cybonix, were prolific throughout the late 90s and early 00s on their own m.a.p. label and more recently on rotterdam s clone. to coincide with the release of the tenth edition in the dba dubs series the label are also making all ten original tracks available as a digital package, while all ten of the remixes from the series get their own bundle, with wheelman and basic soul unit providing a megamix of each edition respectively.

rico puestel is a phenomenon and currently one of the best artists around when it comes to solid, discerning techno. thats techno that takes no detours, doesnt hide behind vocal samples or need unnecessary, pseudo-intelligent tinkering to get the listeners attention. puestels two current cocoon contributions equity and immunised are strongly reminiscent of caravel, which he also released on cocoon recordings almost exactly a year ago. the mini breaks and prolonged dramatic pauses are all pieces in the puzzle of puestels arrangement and together with the hypnotic beats and constantly radiating synths and effects, they make up his own interpretation of techno sound. it buzzes, it shines and with the right pa its exactly the type of vibe that help us forget the daily grind of dance music madness! that ubiquitous let the bass kick sample hasnt felt so at home for a long time!

for those that knoe delves deeper into the archives once more to repackage a bundle of hard to find cuts on vinyl that have been staple supplies in ben s record bag over the years. the early to mid 2000s was a period of minimal techno overload, finding quality house music then was a challenge compared to today. rather than follow the herd, some european producers took influence from the original minimal pioneers and fused those approaches with house music themes in order to push a unique sound of the era. they turned minimal on its head and gave took it in a different direction. canson from switzerland released a handful of records between 2002 and 2005 that were a prime example of this aesthetic. stripped back beats with syncopated melodies - perfect cuts for those early sets or hazy morning sessions. the three tracks featured on this compilation were originally released on two solo eps for canson: itsudemo and holiday plug in, both of which have claimed squatter s rights in my record bag for almost 15 years. i don t think i ve played one early slot or house set without one of them. this record is quite a personal one for me as it s a representation of my deeper sound as a dj. now the original records are a little hard to find so im so glad to share my choice picks of cansons material on a my label.

repress incoming! a blast from the past... one of the most iconic tracks from the noir music back-catalogue makes a remixed revival. 3 impressive remixes to spice up your dj sets. victor ruiz makes bipolar star a fantastic big room techno stomper with his signature sound and just the right amount of melody from the original to make it recognizable. re:axis almost makes the track unrecognicable with a more minimal techno approach. something i am sure will please the forefront of the underground techno scene. animal picnic & aaryon almost pays tribute to the original with their very cool update keeping a lot of the original feel but cleverly tweaked the elements to sound super fresh again. i believe there�s a little something for everyone in this remix package which was the purpose behind doing it instead of a bunch of remixes sounding the same. i hope you like the new remixes and put �bipolar star� right back into rotation.

monotone is back on wax! after almost 10 years since we have seen a monotone vinyl release, the return is strong. monotone boss larry mccormick comes with a 6 track mini album with straight up pure electro goodness. the follow up to his album on shipwrec entitled intelectro, larry mccormick aka exzakt offers us a more puristic electro sound that he is known for. kicked off by show the way we get that vintage exzakt sound with crisp 909/808 layed kicks, one step ahead goes the more melodic route but still keeps the beat moving. move because i said so is a fun and funky classic electro sound. creator. vibes are massive on this riding melodic jam. eyes on me is a journey, an atmospere with trancy keys and subsonic pads. magic city is a bit of a departure from the normal sound yet still retains the low end.
