lithuanian based label sodai started its journey in 2016, making it a label still in it�s infancy but making a big impression. owned by artist gardens of god, who started the label to create his own �no limits� plat-form for his experimental sounds and projects. while at the same time a platform to give other artists the chance to also have freedom with art and music. with releases from raxon, few nolder and third son under their belt, the label shows no sign of slowing down, next in line is italian producer alex schaufel (suara, diynamic) who is welcomed to the label with a his heavy hitting four track ep entitled �roots�.

the latest release on francis harris scissor & thread is another exercise in subtlety and restraint, brought to us by the emerging talents of nadia khan. with little known about the artist, this release lets the sublime music do the talking. title track �in gleam is a beautifully evocative drift into ambient textures - rising pads and occasion bass tones combine to set an exquisite scene. �local visit is a collaboration with label boss francis harris, and features some of the trademark submerged rhythm and textures the label has become known for, unfolding its deep structures over the course of the track. �restless sees label regular alex albrecht aka melquíades (whose previous ep on s&t was received warmly) provide the last bells remix - again muted tones and rhythmic complexity glide under ethereal piano fragments and slowly evolving pad washes. �sorting through finds its groove early, a deadened kick unfolds into an urgent percussion creating a thick atmosphere of melancholia. �sunburnt rounds out the physical release - ending how it started - with dreamy, smudged tones, and warm pads.

when looking for music to be released on magazine, our guideline has always been energy. the key question remains the same: does the artist have something important to say? does it have a sense of urgency? alex played us these tracks while visiting the magazine studio in cologne earlier this year and we were consumed by unadulterated rage. this is anything but a conceptual release, alex has not released this kind of music before. a side of alex manifests itself through these techno tracks, that most might not have known before. brutal yet beautiful, furious yet fragile. a berlin native who shaped his sense for techno by striving through his hometown and its infamous raves, alex is now one of the prominent protagonists of that scene � not only when regularly playing at berghain. the ep harnesses this experience perfectly, fully preserving the energy of the creation process by recording directly to tape. most productions may have suffered from this primitive method of locking sound into position, but not these tracks from a techno master.

echocord�s echo echo sub-label continues with its third releases this august, courtesy of german producer and credo founder alex bau with his �zenstory� ep. germany�s alex bau has been a prominent name on the underground dj circuit on his home turf, and further afield, for three decaces as well as racking up an impressive back catalogue as a recording artists for labels like cocoon, clr, sleaze and of course his very own credo label which has been a platform predominantly for his own material whilst welcoming the likes of kyle geiger, takkyu ishino and electric rescue onto the imprint also. here though we see bau joining the roster of echocord�s fledgling sub-label echo echo with a new four-track ep and taking the lead on the package is �clouds� with pulsating low-end tones, hissing analogue noise and dusty drums samples all flowing in unison with ethereal chords and sweeping pads. �contour� follows, tipping the focus over to bubbling delayed stab hits, fluttering sub bass and evolving white noise bursts throughout. the �prelude� of �zenstory� opens the flip side and as the name would suggest it�s a cinematic build up to the title-track featuring tension-building, expansive atmospherics ahead of the original mix which features a thumping muted kick, stuttering atmospheric echoes and spoken word vocal tucked into the depths of the record.

next dystopian release from the mighty alex.do

alex.do is best known as part of the dystopian collective, where he works alongside scene leaders such as rødhåd and recondite in pursuing a focused strain of contemporary club music loaded with emotional depth to match its functionality. this attitude comes through in spades on dusted, where do presents a selection of tracks that tap into all four corners of the night.

in late 2017, thomas gandey and danny mclewin - known from the popular disco-influenced electronic music collective psychemagik - emerged from their studio in bordeaux, france, claiming to have produced an extended musical arrangement, both entitled, and containing the sounds of, the shakuhachi. furthermore, they insisted, for the purposes of this production, and a further album of related arrangements to be released subsequently in conjunction with the successful german record label kompakt, they should be referred to henceforth as ghost vision. shortly thereafter, the audio recordings described by gandey and mclewin came into the possession of noted los angeles degenerate, dj and nymphomaniac citation needed dirty dave, who was quick to relay the hallucinatory qualities of the duo�s productions to fellow dj and trusted hallucinogenic expert paramida, of esteemed german musical imprint love on the rocks. paramida, recognising the innate quality of the sounds presented to her, decided that such recordings warranted immediate release through her audio distribution channel, and not without remixes. quite without thinking of the origins of the instrument which had given the recording its particular sonic distinguishment, and of course, its title, she enlisted the help of two musicians named alex - one from tokyo, and one from kyoto. both alex from tokyo - teaming up with his colleagues isao kumano & kenichi takagi as tokyo black star, known for their prior releases on popular german label innervisions - and his counterpart, alex from kyoto, better known as al kassian, rising tamagotchi on paramidas love on the rocks imprint, and his own label, planet sundae - turned in striking reinterpretations of gandey and mclewin�s composition.

len faki isnt showing any signs of slowing things down over on his special edits-platform, already lining up the second round of 2018 and thus bringing the catalogue total up to lfrmx006. alex danilovs inside comes in two new versions here, both of which build upon the russian producers trademark filter action, making for a groove that funks as strongly as it remains subtle. first off the charming deepspace mix patiently unfolds into crisp breaks and lush strings, followed by a remarkably atmospheric hardspace mix, which soon steps it up a notch and gets smacking in order to get that floor chugging away to its choo-choo-chimes. meanwhile on the other side, developers steaming lost moments is treated to an array of additional elements, the outcome sounding razor-sharp and agile as ever, yet still channeling a considerable amount of propulsive force. as with all releases of lf rmx, the proceeds of this record will be donated to the berlin charity project straßenkinder e.v. to be used in actions against child poverty.

the b side is an amazing track from seawind that everybody who is into jazz funk or latin jazz with vocals will dig it. this version is different than the original, we kept only the more dancefloor friendly parts and we extended the beginning and end of the track with only drum rhythmic reprogrammed for mixing easily in your sets with other tunes. please enjoy as much as we do because we love those edits, we love those tunes, we love music we are very happy with this release because its really really good!
