new york experimentalists sheik n beik continue on form as they follow up records from japans keita sano, legowelt & xosar and jeffrey scott with a bold and atmospheric 12inch from jerry riggs & maxwell church a.k.a hermans. hailing from toronto - hermans specialise in their own brand of esoteric techno that lends them perfectly to a release on sheik n beik. their things change ep slots neatly into the catalogue with its blend of spooky melodies and analogue drum work. diana (how youve changed) kicks things off with an infectious vocal loop and juddering drum patterns. brooklyn’s max pask then follows up with his take on diana which sets 909 drums over a thick, burning acid line. endless toil then follows up with a tightly wound groove built with metallic whacks and frazzled, flexing synth tones. forget the past then brings the package to a thumping close as manic synth lines dart between crunching drums in another strong addition to sheik n beiks catalogue.

san francisco-based butane makes his debut on jamie jones hottrax with three hypnotizing productions this october. founder of alphahouse and little helpers, andrew rasse aka butane has been building a solid reputation as a respectable dj, producer and label owner for over a decade now. when not releasing his low-slung dancefloor focused cuts on his own imprints the multifaceted american has made appearances on sci+tec, crosstown rebels and moan. he now appears on hottrax joining a roster spanning waff, patrick topping, mat.joe, bunte bummler, raumakustik, dms12 and jamie himself. a gentle thud initiates addicted, making way for a throbbing synth that warps and distorts throughout the mix whilst a fuzzy bassline operates beneath it. lock and key focuses on intricate percussion whilst dusky atmospherics and a medley of nuances are introduced throughout before shark attack concludes the package with a rumbling low-end and compelling groove.

doktu rhute muuzic (formerly roy hytower) has enjoyed a full career from his late teens to this present day, a career that spans over 50 years. his first experiences were singing around mobile, alabama. in 1962 he came to chicago, replacing mighty joe young as rhythm guitarist for otis rush. often adopting a soul-slanted sound, hytower cut a handful of 45rpm singles in the 1960s and 70s for several local labels such as avin, expo, brainstorm, and jiffy. in june 2016 his tune “song of deliverance” was featured on tramp’s “peace chant- compilation. in recent years roy hytower has self-released a couple of cds, however under his new moniker, doktu rhute muuzic. “i’m in your corner” and “tip jar” were released on two different cd albums. this is the only chance to get these two wonderful tunes on vinyl. don’t miss it!

featuring over 30 minutes of music recorded between 1973-75 found on tapes in maurice tanis attic. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios. the jacket features an alluring photo of candida seductively sprawled with a broken virgin mary statue around her head, originally commissioned by jorge socarras for an indoor life single, and shot by arne svenson. each copy includes a 16-page booklet with never seen-before photos, interviews and liner notes from patrick and candida’s friends, roommates and musical collaborators.

the second ep, 1987s greenfingers, was their final recorded work and, according to hayward, its possible to hear the group atomising and preparing to go its separate ways within its grooves. the only this heat or camberwell now recording not to have been produced at brixtons cold storage studios, it was recorded as a diy exercise and – unusually for either of the groups – was not pored over laboriously for a great deal of time. the ep also saw the addition of a new member, maria lamburn, primarily on sax, whose element unknown was inspired by her experiences in the nuclear protest camp at greenham common. camberwell, in south london, pops up infrequently in pop culture. perhaps you know it from the camberwell carrot, the heroically sized joint smoked in cult movie withnail & i, or perhaps – if youre attuned to experimental music – you know of camberwell now. the group formed from the ashes of this heat, the art-noise group whose catalog was reissued on modern classics recordings in early 2016.

what’s on help008? mainly music from the arhus-boy dj sports. it’s sort of a debut, but sports has released a bunch of tracks on regelbau and help over the past years, solo + with his groups maizena, sportscentral and lester. this young sensible producer initiates the release with the breaky hidden spheres that has a cool piano. next another leftwing original from sports. this one, with it’s flute, breakbeat, confident synth chords and beautiful minor nature is a favourite of mr. sports parents. this one is our favorite, his parents. if we haven’t lost you so far, the flipside contains a timeman dance version with more danceability, hook and playing time than the original version of the bridge that was released on the tape sportscentral. last but not least you get an alternative version of that get-in-touch-with-your-inner-passion/synthesizer-melody-rythmical-ambient-track mindless turns, that also originally appeared on the aforementioned tape. we hope you ll like our new record, that, if on repeat, might provide you hours and hours of by-yourself enjoyment.

ixvlf is back at it again following the language of mini-album released earlier this year as part of our ongoing tape series. pushing it further from where we last left off, connor clasen’s vinyl debut reflects our ever growing desire to re-interpret club music in its most primitive and cartilaginous nature. while cleverly obscuring any reference to a specific period of time, involuntary movement shows a sense of the american-based producer stretching disorienting imagery over the existing landscape of proto-industrial — matching the visual interpretation of ailsa ogden undertaking the artwork by way of a new collaboration to be expanded over a handful of releases — where unpolished synthesizers and rhythm machines collide and bawl in a controlled crash. it is an exercise of existing in various states of detachment, a fixation on mechanical repetition and unpredictable behaviors through the haze of helium laughter. definitely one for the animals.

kian t, a self-confessed analogue synth addict, steps up for the 6th secret reels release and with an ep on big bait already under his belt and one forthcoming on toy tonics, 2016 is looking like a vintage year for this italian producer. this ep is all about tough beats, warm & punchy synth lines and a few dusty vinyl samples thrown in for good measure. kian s production values are always on point, and these 3 tracks are no exception, instantly standing out from the crowd. on remix duties is man of the moment daniel leseman. his solo productions and remixes are firm favourites with a vast swathe of top djs. he is also one half of fouk, alongside junktion, who have absolutely taken over recently with releases on heist, razor-n-tape, house of disco and not to mention their own label outplay. daniel turns the tough syncopated beats of flughafen into a shimmering, funk-laden piece of house.

there’s much to be said for chance meetings. vitruvians – in their words, “a meeting of minds, cultures, styles and experiences, powered by music, and designed by faith” – owe their very existence to once such random encounter.
in the summer of 2014, producers frankie valentine and thomas “t-ash” sciurpa bumped into each other in a london shoe shop. over a fine selection of brogues and loafers, the conversation drifted onto music. the duo quickly realized they had much in common, and a plan began to form: they would get together and make music as vitruvians, using the alias as a vehicle for their collaborative work.

swedish born christian smith is sitting firmly at the top of the electronic dance music industry. his outstanding productions over the years have set the bench mark high, releasing on a collection of the industrys most respected labels such as drumcode, cocoon, bedrock, minus and his very own tronic.

if anything, stojche’s take on detroit inspired techno rarely requires your permission for engagement. the fifth installment of his own label, tangible assets, is no different. this singular producer always manages to conjure up otherworldly atmospheres that resonate from head to feet. with that said, we could spend the next three paragraphs throwing around adjectives and splashing colorful words all over this press release regarding his sound, the aesthetic within each track in this release, and we could even volunteer a side helping of words that somehow make sense of this young producers studio ability. one thing however is for certain. tang005’s true charm lies in its ability to capture an honesty and sincerity that’s as captivating as it is transcendent. there’s a clinical yet organic approach that stojche adopts time and time again in formulating his tangible asset releases, and if anything, tang005 should provide further evidence of his depth, maturity and innate ability to create enchantment. this record is wrapped in captivating moments born from flourishing stabs, twilight synths, rolling charges of calculated manic rhythms and subatomic motions living within a range of intricately programmed beats. add to that a host of cinematic sweeps that develop into harmonic clouds of melancholy and you’re one step closer to the true romance etched within the grooves of this record. once again, stojche has created an ep that catalyses imagination. a series of intense voyages with thoughtfully considered moments and movements that have been executed by a man well in tune with his craft.

• umek reprises his zeta reticula moniker for a welcome return to billy nasty’s electrix label with an innovative ep comprised of 4 new tracks, split between the two spheres of electro and techno. the slovenian-born dj and producer should need no introduction, boasting more than two decades of experience, playing the world over, producing music for labels like toolroom, spinnin’, great stuff, intec or his own imprint, 1605 to name just a few, or presenting his hugely popular weekly radio show, behind the iron curtain. it’s been some time since a zeta reticula release on electrix, with ‘ep 1’ to ‘ep 4’ surfacing on the label between 2000 and 2003, although umek has continued the project more recently with tracks on 1605. the a-side of ‘ep 5’ delivers some electro flavour, opening with the serious electro-funk of ‘electric blood complete’, before the vintage sci-fi electronics and playful rave stabs of ‘euphonious’. over on the b-side the techno takes over with the deep and dub-drenched ‘encroach’ followed by the tough housey grooves of ‘radiate’ to complete this bold package.

after releasing two albums independently (little armenia, saturday night at the magic lamp) as well as scoring music for the recent vice films release a girl walks home alone at night (produced by elijah wood), the next release from los angeles-based producer bei ru is l.a. zooo, his first instrumental beat concept record which incorporates everything from bugged-out middle eastern melodies from the 1970s to obscure electronic, funk, jazz & soul sounds. hypnotizing keyboards, pulsating bass lines, and infectious drums guide you through the l.a. zooo - a playful, yet ominous place where humans and animals coexist and weapons and armor are required for simple walks down the street.

niro perrone better known as simply niro, or easy to remember, alongside sibling and production partner elia perrone, has come a long way over the past few years stacking up releases on the likes of m50’s revered kimochi sound, sound of vast, memento and the dub, as well as releasing his debut lp on his unclear imprint. here though we see niro introduce a new chapter with his brand new label pads.
‘hands of shadow’ opens the release and sets the tone of the label from the very beginning with an understated melodic feel fused with raw percussion and a subtly evolving yet intricate structure. ‘inner space’ follows and wanders into dub territories with spiralling echoes, low-slung drums and ethereal atmospherics. title cut ‘pieces of you’ opens the flip side and lays focus on an infectious unfaltering groove via vacillating pad swells, sporadic jazz licks and a weighty 4/4 drive before closing cut ‘the spectrometer dance’ rounds it all off with some ambient vibes.

british deep house veteran sir lord commix is the latest producer to hand over dats of forgotten late 90s studio sessions to the team behind for those that knoe. predictably, they ve chosen four great cuts to release. first up you ll find the elastic synths, alien melodies and fizzing motor city percussion of early tech-house style shuffler -pieces of dream-, before the p-funk-influenced uk-us garage fusion of -leroy garage- takes us in an altogether breezier direction. flip for the jovonn style synthesizer melodies and groovy garage rhythms of -new jersey-, and the electro-inspired intelligent techno dreaminess of -destiny-.

dutch producer casper von banniseht sidles over to bristol stable boogie cafe to present a three-track 12- of impeccable dusty house grooves imbued with that detroit-esque feeling that oozes out of a moodymann or theo parrish record. -bossa- revels in choppy broken beats and plenty of choice samples in a most loose and soulful of concoctions, while -lazy- cools down to a simmer with subtle disco licks making the most immersive of deep house jams. -lone- meanwhile plies a more chipper trade with its hooky chord stabs, but still the vibe remains smooth and laid back, just how the boogie cafe crew seem to like it.

wedish born christian smith is sitting firmly at the top of the electronic dance music industry. his outstanding productions over the years have set the bench mark high, releasing on a collection of the industry s most respected labels such as drumcode, cocoon, bedrock, minus and his very own tronic. 2016 has been a busy year so far for christian, his tronic label party series has been holding events worldwide, including the bpm festival and sonar off week, and an ever growing catalogue of releases not forgetting his most recent ep force majeure released in july on drumcode which immediately entered beatports techno top 10, straight in at no.8. this september, christian will release his third solo album titled input-output on his own tronic imprint. consisting of 11 original tracks, each one embodies christians message of creating real techno, with powerful percussions and melodic basslines throughout. input/output is an outstanding production offering some of the best driving techno you can expect from an artist like christian, with his trademark style incorporated in every track. it takes you on a journey, through a variation of sounds and textures, which still manage to cater to everyone s musical palate. synthesizers work their way throughout, alongside dark atmospheric harmonies and haunting vocals or that pounding kick drum in some of the heavier tracks. it never disappoints!

wolf dem is a live electronics duo from philadelphia, conceived in the fall of 2012 by two longtime djs who bonded over similar musical backgrounds and a mutual desire to explore the bleeding edges of electronic music. using drawing on a highly diverse range of influences, wolf dem grew from its original concept-what your dreams would sound like if you fell asleep in an old warehouse where someone had left a dancehall station playing on the radio- into a focused aesthetic, at once chaotic and hypnotic, sitting at the intersection of caribbean music, techno, noise, and field recordings. past releases include tracks for compilations on new low and great circles grcr-010, as well cassette releases for vague audio tapes and end result

for over five years, all day i dream has been where deep and emotive meet house music. propelled by a community of forward thinking artists drawn around the scion of master curator and sunset/sunrise set specialist, lee burridge. all day i dream formally welcomes lost desert to the label with the release of lingala, a two-track collaborative effort with burridge himself, that also features junior on vocals. lost desert was picked out of obscurity after burridge discovered his music while trekking in a remote area of a long lost land. a fast forged friendship inevitably lead to the studio, and lingala’s the enrapturing sophomore result. the duo’s first project together debuted on lee’s night time imprint, get weird, earlier this year to widespread support. lingala, is a beautifully composed ten-minute sonic journey. built around a mystical lead vocal sung by newcomer junior in his native linagles the raw emotion slowly builds in intensity over propulsive basslines and deep melodic grooves . gorje hewek & izhevski’s interpretation of lingala is a markedly different affair. focussing on musical layers rather than the vocal the duo’s signature spacey atmospheres and minimal rhythmic percussion add extra strings creating uplifting moments that contrast the original’s mood.
