after more than 30 years, halfway ritmo in collaboration with early sounds, will release unpublished recordings (1982-1989) from former tangerine dream and iggy pop s drummer klaus krüger. advanced dance combines a sweeping mix of krüger s handcrafted acoustic drums and distinctive electronic sounds of the late berlin- school years, creating a unique blend of advanced polyrhythms. krüger achieved a balance between creativity and classic drum patterns giving birth to an unconventional and avant-garde type of music that could be easily defined as a precursor of techno. his progressive mentality led him to delve further into the tape collage technique and unique ways of triggering his drums. it was a whole new world of music - sustained by his artistic surroundings, which included collaborations as well as friendships with other influential artists such as david bowie, martin kippenberger and helmut newton. in the time of german division, the pulsating west berlin became a melting pot of creativity and international encounters. advanced dance is the result of the blazing heat feeding the unstoppable thirst of discovery which characterized that generation, creating tunes that transform the listener s experience into one blissful moment amidst beautiful confusion.

more disco meets deep house from that guy bobby analog on his third release from his body fusion imprint - this one has been getting some spicy reactions in the club. strong nyc influences from henry street for the a-side with a little hat tip to the darker, deeper feels of chez, ron and kerri on the flip. we hope there’s something for all hours of the early morning on here.

kingswood drive and accidental return were an early teaser of this new set. displaying their signature analogue sounds and arpeggios, alongside broken beats and soul, you wouldn t be alone in hearing the influences of dam funk, herbie hancock or bugz in the attic coming through on these two. elsewhere more jittery, playful rhythms underpin croydon rooftop café culture. as well as in the calming and ethereal prints on the heath, a subtle tribute to mutual hero prince, who passed away on the unusually prolific day this and two other, currently unreleased, tracks were written and recorded. throughout the ep the duo nod at their london home from the -heath- to kingswood drive and more obviously croydon itself. the sound of south london is threaded throughout this record with pride. even down to the mechanical sunset sound of ep finale thorns, capturing some of the essence of the studio view over london from their high point on the hill in thornton heath. the first ep from albert s favourites co-founders and synth-production duo modified man focused on throwing out heavy editing, recording music with as few processes as possible and grabbing performances as single takes. blending warped cassette recordings that touched upon early jazz-funk/brit-funk influences with the energy of broken beat and experimental electronica, won them support from patrick forge, osunlade, thris tian, yam who? and titeknots to name a few. since that release they premiered new track thorns live on boiler room, going on to deliver a full, three-hour live performance and dj set for the infamous global community. they also provided remixes for dele sosimi, amp fiddler, makadem & behr and hector plimmer, meanwhile, busily preparing a series of four, six-track vinyl eps which will be released over the next 18 months.

the copenhagen based label trtlnck delivers fast paced and functional techno on their fourth v/a vinyl installment. riesenfeld opens the record with ‘auto self’ and ‘white weather’, two groove heavy tracks, while resonant pole takes over the flip-side with ‘eroticism moves’, a more trancelike take on contemporary techno, followed up by modah closing the record with ‘lasue’, a suitable tool for almost any selection. all four tracks are heavily dance floor orientated and bring the sound of the copenhagen club scene on to vinyl.

the uk based label will offer up several releases throughout 2018 and yama music 001 perfectly sets the tone of what’s to follow. taking the lead here is ‘margaret made me do it’ which lays down woozy synth tones and modulating glitches alongside a snaking sub bass groove, shuffled minimalistic percussion and an amalgamation of contemplative spoken word vocal cuts to create a tripped-out opening to the record. ‘ddderlooon party’ follows and retains a similar aesthetic with swinging drums and ethereal atmospherics at its core whilst hypnotic, billowing synths ebb and flow dynamically across the composition, again creating something raw yet refined. then lastly to round out the package ‘moon boots’ tips the focus over to a more straight percussive groove and stirs in vacillating low-end pulses, murky, evolving stabs and mind-bending electronic blips.

second instalment by music mania reprise gives belgian 80s synth classic crocodile tears a new life. music mania is proud to present the next instalment in their reprise series. following the highly sought after classic elle et moi (mmr001), comes the blissful belgian synth pop anthem ‘crocodile tears’ (mmr002). the track was one of the first singles of kuruki, the minimal wave project spearheaded by ghent-based musician gerry d haeyer and alain bureau (sally joy). in an age of electronic sequenced experimentation, the band managed to find a distinctive sound that easily puts them between the likes of telex. the original ep such a liar was released in 1981 and clearly echoes the new wave of its time. the scenes described by vocalist sally joy as well as the melancholic keys of the main track crocodile tears breathe tristesse. nevertheless, it has a playful sound full of catchy synths. a dualism between such beauty and melancholy: this track was undeniably made in belgium in the eighties, but should also appeal to lovers of italo disco. be aware: for their second reprise music mania managed to include an exclusive instrumental version of this belgitude. even more synths for your listening pleasure.

from the boom of the international neo-lounge revival italy has become the point of attraction of an almost maniacal interest. there is a lot of research work from different italian labels behind it. thanks to them even the latest generations have the chance to meet the made in italy sound of the soundtracks and library music and even more notoriety has been given to the genial arrangers, composers and musicians who have characterised the italian lounge scene of 60’s/70’s, such as ennio morricone and piero piccioni. a precious recovery of the past to revitalise the present, which builds up new ideas of the future. “metti una bossa a cena”, whose title is completely inspired by the famous soundtrack of ennio morricone, goes on into this research field, discovering very rare tracks of this italian bossa panorama. we believe the result is perfect. gerardo frisina, track compiler of this project, has brought to light some rare tracks and perfectly matched them to create an unique and elegant thread.

2023 repress - pablos eye is the science of studio pressure, when engineer becomes artist. appropriating left and right as well as front and back, pablos eye uses the mixing desk to examine and exhaust the possibilities of moments. pablos eye is a record of that examination and exhaustion, but it is also a record of its own inner space. by means of depth placement, psychoacoustics and spatial fug, pablo’s eye is experienced in the deeper reaches of the body, bypassing the conscious part of the mind entirely. . pablos eye is the turning of recorded music inside out to show its seams. it interrogates a song, stripping down the body of the song to reveal its bones. pablo’s eye is in the interstices of music, it plugs the gaps, fills the holes. pablo’s eye seeks out the concealed mechanisms, it is a songs hidden agenda. for this compilation, it was decided to present the softer air-beatings of pablos eye. more than anything, pablos eye is a temporary atmosphere, like a taste or a dream.

ludgate returns to west end communications with a high energy, maximum impakt, club record. ranging from fast paced techno to distorted electro, showcasing a diverse pallet with a more ambient cut to finish. all round 12/10.

kris baha is fast becoming one of the most essential operators in the deviant disco underbelly of berlin s scene, despite having landed in the city relatively recently. baha s credentials with labels like power station and parties in melbourne are all that you need to know, and now this release on the ever mighty cocktail d amore seals the deal. baha has never sounded more confident, pinging deviant synths around nasty drum bite and channeling the gods of industrial darkness to make some rugged body music for the darker kind of dancefloor. the experimental, non-party tracks are just as wild, dealing in all manner of uncompromising noise to further bahas journey to the upper realms of sonic mud slingers

for the second release on rotterhague records i am proud to have two new tracks from dj maaco, known for the unbeatable detroit in effect and also the illustrious cybonix releases. classic detroit stuff with that huge maaco stamp on it, i know i will be playing it a lot! there is also two overdose tracks on this one, one that drove a crowd in moscow mad and one that is about how stuff drives me mad. more funky robotics!

joris biesmans tve imprint returns for its third installment, this time featuring it’s eponymous founder front, center and recording under his own name. led by a forward-thinking electro remix from the ever-versatile man power, its another firm display of synth-led versatility, brimming with confidence and charisma. angry baby is an irresistible pressure-pot of stomping house, as playful as it’s name and as demanding as its imaginary infant protagonist, with a truly hypnotic, elastic breakdown proving irresistible in a club context man powers aforementioned remix is less loopy, more analog, with his well-tooled production technique pushing the records texture into altogether more cosmic and overwhelming territory, led by wailing synthesis. back to biesmans for b2, and a more acidic, almost unnerving vision unfolds throughout connecting the dots which does just that, linking futurist, michigan influences with a more floor-focused, european aesthetic.

‘pat thomas introduces marijata’ is a seminal ghanian album that fuses highlife, reggae, folk, funk and soul, from legendary vocalist pat thomas. originally released in 1976 on gapophone records. ‘marijata’ was a group made up of three members – kofi ‘electric’ addison on drums, bob fischlan on organ and nat osmanu on guitar, hailing from ghana. pat thomas career began in 1969 with the ‘broadway dance band’, leaving a year later to join the ‘uhuru dance band’. he then played with ebo taylor’s ‘blue monks’ and finally formed the ‘sweet beans’ in 1973 where he really made his name. the group released ‘false lover’ in 1974, split and then reformed as marijata, releasing ‘marijata’ (also available on mr bongo) and this album, ‘pat thomas introduces marijata’. thomas career spans more than 50 years and he still tours regularly across the world. replica original artwork, official mr bongo reissue. licensed from gapophone records courtesy of george prah.
