ltd repress, whoever knows of toi toi musik will know they have become synonymous with underground quality and for keeping things close and personal for their events and agency. well, with their new label its no different they stay very true to their identity (a good mix of english and german) and their quality. the 1st ep is produced by the legendary mr g. inspired after playing live at one of their events he wrote the track toi toi, which was later released on djulzs bassculture label. as a consequence, his relationship with the couple is so personal he nurtured them to open their own label and offered them 3 tracks for tt01 called much love ep. the 4th track is a remix by hello? repeat co-owner daze maxim, who has been a guest resident for the party for nearly its entire existence.

the love for music and vinyl were not only crucial factors that marius lehnert has established itself as a dj, but they are still the basics. through his residency at the infamous club rocker 33 stuttgart marius has received the first major attention. his last release on blufin got a big hype, not only becuase oft he remixes by egbert and fairmont. after a few releases more from marius lehnert he strated to produce with its buddy marc shepherd, first just for fun. but this 2 tracks made it on the new ep investigation of cavity, this time with a superb remix by roland m. dill.

the man behind the end of level boss label, cyclonix, delivers 2 club tracks just the way we like them. already tried and tested in the clubs by our man cottam, who fell in love with the tracks on first listen. they demand to be played in the early hours of the morning in dark basements from nottingham to leyland and beyond. label boss cottam takes over the b side with a leisurely walk back from the supermarket taking the scenic route for no apparent reason.

modelmaker is a new london label from the collective minds of dan berkson and james what. the esteemed house duo has long been garnishing a range of international imprints with their inventive analogue house and techno sounds, but now they are focussing on their own outlet. initially launching with a couple of self penned eps, release number three will be the pair s long-time-in-the-making debut album, and after that a considered selection of other talents will join the ranks as the label pushes on. always primarily focussed on machine made, texturally rich house and techno, each release will come with unique artwork based on works from what s great grandfather, conrad felixmuller, who was a well known german expressionist.

steve frisco, of serie limitee fame, brings us the latest bundle of hot tracks to hit wax classic in 2014. as the title suggests, steve takes us on a journey through low fidelity sounds and production techniques. think dark, moody, yet crunchy basement house tracks with inspiration taken from all over the u.s and the rest of the house world. it’s a generous offering as well. six whole dusty tunes for those diggers who are looking for something with a bit more range than another record of generic piano laden, house-by-numbers pieces that still seem to be flooding the record store shelves in 2014. the moods do vary from track to track, but they remain very reflective and almost melancholic at points. the title track, ‘adventure in lo-fi’, is the deepest of the lot with filtered chords, echoing claps and a sporadic kick pattern that often clears way for the track’s bass hits. now, compare that to ‘da brooklyn beat’. whilst the former had a distinct sunrise/sunset kind of feel to it, the latter is definitely more of a club affair. skippy snare hits and a strong organ lead the track on, and at the risk of utilizing very overused buzzwords such as ‘raw’ and ‘ruff’, this track, and the rest of the a-side for that matter, certainly captures that essence. stalwart wax classic fans will no doubt be picking this one up to add to their collection. however, i strongly recommend this ep as a jumping in point to the label for any newcomers out there

on this new 12 inch, we present 3 big names of the digging scene: tokyo matt from the otaku soundsystem originally based in hong-honk, and mori ra & asn from tokyo oyama edit, well know for their releases on curt jackson rotating soulss label. the 4 edits they are presenting are just out of this world. all very atmospherics, they are the ideal combination of space disco, balearic rock, jazz, pop and fusion. another ep to take very seriously.

this edit of malis amadou & mariam ce nest pas bon (originally created in 2008 for my dj sets) was supposed to be included on the recently released third autonomous africa 12inch. unfortunately i didnt get permission to use it in time for that release but permission has now been given, so rather than wait for aa 004 in 2015 it is going to come out as a limited edition hand stamped 10inch as soon as possible. all proceeds will once again go to the mtandika mission in tanzania -www.actioninafrica.org/about-mtandika.php a big thanks to ben ufo and midland for championing this edit. the interest they generated directly led to the motivation for this release.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.

umkhosi wokweshwama, the celebration of the first fruits among zulus and the sweet name of the first disc at big brothers. this young parisian collective focuses on storytelling, multimedia and smashing ! they feel good in the confusion of styles and the audacity of an approach. their aesthetic is complex because before mind they look for senses. this vinyl is a cycle, it was born in the spring. look at its front, its back, listen to its a-side, its b-side and enjoy the massive flavor of the summer. at that period, a year ago, big brothers was conceiving this baby.

roots go deep are a label devoted to releasing music by south african artists. since 2012 they ve released seven eps by names like d.nel, makhen gigga and label owners ofuren and fred buddah. now that they ve established themselves in the digital realm of music, roots go deep arrive on the physical medium with a split ep of deep and dubby sounds from ofuren and fred buddah. the two provide two collaborative tracks in -floral synergy- - a woozy house jam in line with mcde s raw cuts - and -do deejays dream of dancing sheep-, a sublime mix of subaqueous chords, chilled out drums and touch of acid. buddah just about goes ambient on his solo track -ragan- while ofuren keeps it heads down and uber-dub on -ripples through reflection-. roots go deep indeed.

hailing from somewhere in spain, mystic & quantum is a new label created to show stories of adventures, magic, science and they launch in quite auspicious fashion with an album length foray through analogue experimentation from one of englands finest dmx krew. one of numerous handles taken by edward upton, standing stones finds the dmx krew sound in particularly contemplative mood across a variety of tempos and can be viewed as an extension of the approach he took on last years reith tracks lp for rush hours no label. however whereas that release saw upton take inspiration from his surroundings on an austrian farm, standing stones draws its creative juices from the mysterious pillars of stone that have stood across western europe for centuries. the accompanying silk screened artwork - which is quite lovely - extends the theme. whether you engage conceptually or just focus on the music, this is another rewarding set from the master dmx krew!

stephan bodzin and marc romboy are very good friends. and this is maybe the main reason why they made a couple of tracks together which have become milestones of the discography of systematic recordings. you cannot really plan these things, so lets call it coincidence that both of them returned to the studio together after a break of four long years. and exactly at the point of time when the ep is finalized systematic turns 100 when it comes to the catalogue numbers. so lets celebrate their new output with this special picture disc!

hot city orchestra is a reformation of a band, which was originally formed in 1998. at the age of 17, arno völker (einzelkind) and simon birkenfeld became friends and started making drum and bass music together. they toured all over germany with their record label and had residencies at robert johnson in offenbach and tanzhaus west in frankfurt. after gaining years of experience within the breakbeat scene, arno went on to become einzelkind with releases on playhouse, cocoon, white and his own imprints la peña, jax and pressure traxx as well as worldwide dj gigs. simon was still focusing on his breakbeat career for another year, making an album with a uk drum and bass legend, but it was never released. he stopped making music and started focusing on his career in pr and marketing, where he mostly worked on music and art projects. during this time, the long-time friends arno and simon came up with the idea to launch the blog-network-project www.disco-very. net now, 16 years later, after making first beats together, the boys are back! a tiny bit older, much wiser, more handsome and around 50 bpm slower.

idjut boys started in early 90s, when house music was heading for the bubbly, wild excitement, and they have always been active in an underground scene which has been drawing the line at the mainstream. carrying on the tradition of house and disco, they have ever played an important role in forming the house and disco culture in uk, producing the intoxicating groove of funk and dub, which is the significant factor in house and disco.

nathan fake and wesley matsell are both producers best known for their releases on border community - nathan fake has been putting out psychedelic permutations on dance music since 2003 for the label, while matsell recently released the blissful total order of being ep for them earlier in 2014. cambria instruments is a new label venture from the pair, and for the first release they have teamed up for a split 12- of kaleidoscopic electronic sounds. nathan fake s contribution black drift starts things off, an initially inauspicious tripping beat gathering momentum and morphing into a far-out piece of fuzzy house underpinned by sunken low-end rumbles. it s the kind of brilliantly wide-eyed track we have come to expect from the producer. over on the flip, wesley matsell s bismuth is a more shadowy, moody affair, a tight techno rhythm holding things together while synths spin wildly. a highly expressive, lysergic trip and one of his finest productions to date. all in all, you couldn t hope for a stronger start from a new label.

anopolis are a collective of four thessaloniki based producers coming together for their first release on lower parts. more specifically they are based in the ano poli area of the city, hence the name. from warm analog pads to screaming acid lines combined with raw beats, anopolis provides a 90s mix tape vibe with a wide mixture of styles and sounds. included is a storming remix from elec pt.1 aka andreas gehm, the minister, manager 111.

the new soft-spoken, hard-rocking group from baltimore debuted their full length live show at the wolf + lamb marcy hotel this march. following in the footsteps of greats like nicolas jaar and pillowtalk, they were the first invited guest in over 2 years to perform at the legendary brooklyn proving grounds. life on planets is a duo that met in the studio lofts of their east coast hometown, whereby a collaboration fusing indie artrock and electronic music began to take shape. it was a pairing of two dramatically different personas, merging as one for a serendipitous, romantic sound that s now been signed to the double standard label. life on planets has also released music through better on foot, where the debut single apollo made waves in early 2014. the touring act features live vocals and guitar, backed by a dj/producer, dawning a long-awaited return to authentic songwriting in dance music.

itokim, aka tendo-based producer takuro ito, aligns with dj bone s subject detroit label with the subject japan: rhythm poems ep and his opening gambit certainly leaves a dent. -motechnique- has been a staple of bone s 3 deck attacks in recent months and it will have eyebrows raised and mouths open from the off. weighty but warm kicks start as they mean to go on, bursting with pace and vigour as thrusts and stabs pinprick the brooding chords. the laidback, easy-going connotations of the title to -roll up and shine- are very much the ethos and aesthetic of the production, as a playful, bubbling melody sets a warm and almost sugary tone from the off before being bolstered by a suave melange of full-bodied kick and dexterous percussion. itokim rounds off his first outing on subject detroit with -the mood device-, a to the point groover that melds elements of the previous productions to stunning effect. a genuine builder of a track with a straight and true trajectory, -the mood device- melds innumerable coatings of percussion and synth as stabs are layered and layered again, clotting and coagulating the composition in to one delightfully deep and multidimensional slice of formidable dancefloor composite.
