rising bristol production team forget me not deliver 3 tracks that ride a wave of bristol-bass, steeped in a classic house sound road tested thoroughly at recent alfresco parties. the lead track *only you* draws you in with modulating pads and haunting vocals underpinned by heavy sub bass. the mix of organic and urban sounds creates an atmosphere perfect for alfrescos first release. on the flip they take the bumping classic house-meets-bass formula and apply it to *club shaker*. this time with classic chords and chopped vocals, they make dance floor magic on this head summer tinged club banger. alfresco disco co-founder luke turner aka lukas remixes *only you* making the track a more sprawling, acid tinged journey, a bit darker than the original. the vinyl of the release is truly one for the collectors.

emotional rescue certainly laid a claim for the most esoteric of reissue endeavours last year, and they are looking to maintain this approach in 2013. their first release sees the label dig further into the cassette archives of kevin harrison, focusing specifically on the neo project the coventry musician did in cahoots with fellow electronic explorer, peter every from neophyte records. as you can tell from the primitive drum heavy tone of the music, neo surfaced in 1985 with the 8 track cassette release global network. this twelve presents five of those tracks, all of which echo the pulsing electronic rhythms of the fly ep, emotional rescues previous harrison reissue, and will find as much favour with those who sleep on the left side of disco as fans of cold wave.

ok, first of all i want to reveal a myth: these infotexts are mostly writtenby the labelowners themselves, not by hard-working editors. so what happens, when the guy behind a label releases his own music? well, either he is a well-organised deadline-machine and he asks somebody capable of doing this stupid job, or he realizes:

this ep marks a newbeginning in my career. since some time now, >the fog burns off< and we get more and more stable in the buisness. last year we were on the road quite a bit and we found many new friends. people from other cities, who believe in the same things, who do similar stuff and who are of the same kidney as we are. so that makes me very happy, which reflects in the music. for the first time i feel like coming home, although we are at the beginning of our journey into the industry yet.

forward strategy group, one of perc traxs central acts return with their first ep since their debut album labour division was released in may of last year. since then they have gigged around europe including gigs at berlins two temples of techno, berghain and tresor and have had their album tracks remixed by uk industrial/synth fusionists factory floor and perc traxs man in athens, sawf.

some of you are probably asking themselves: where the fuck has patrick chardronnet been the past years? its not like he has not been productive. patrick has been very busy and we are sure most of you have heard his works, even though you had no idea they were his.

with his debut album back to bedlam, elia vens presents the astonishing result of his musical rebirth. no doubt, he keeps the balance between underground techno and rhythmic house music with a dash of haunting melodies. the production time of one and a half years proofs his will to accurately establish a serious musical base and that he took his time to collaborate with several artists from divergent fields. the element of surprise runs like a golden thread through all tracks and eventually leaves behind the answer to the very question for the identity of elia vens.

de:tuned is the new label of djs, record collectors and party promoters bonny (ruben boons) and konnekt (bert hermans).the label is an extension of the de:tuned parties which they have been organising since 2009 in and around antwerp (belgium). de:tuned stands for proper old school club music, whether its techno, acid, rave, house. de:tuned is about quality music in general. previous guests at the de:tuned events include ben sims, dave angel, mike dred, robert leiner, cj bolland and frank de wulf to name but a few.

lokee musiks sophomore release features newcomer afriqua. a 21 year old from virginia, usa and currently based in berlin. this fledgling producer and student of the royal academy of music sparked interest with lokee when they met at one of their famous after hours in london. the title track here is melt & features broken groove with afriquas minimal perspective. electric pulse stabs are at the heart of this rhythm and drive it with a much appreciated space. vocals from sorcha richardson adds an eerie anthemic touch reminiscent of somewhere between the cocteau twins & fever ray

2013 edition in bonbon marbled unique ltd re-press. one day in 2008, two close friends were sitting together, probably they were working at the studio to finish some tracks. and while they talked about music, they came across this song again and again. perhaps its tanitas voice, perhaps the melody attended by that doleful bassoon pipe. anyway, it is just one of those musical moments from the late eighties that have remained in thought since childhood.

back in december 2012 we brought you the sounds of the unheard from our romanian ambassadors future nuggets. the compilation gained plaudits from across the globe and was even named by andrew weatherall as one of his compilations of the year. steaua de mare featured heavily and the band was instantly noted for their smokey psychedelic sound. their unique sound comes from many directions. they bring elements of prog, dub, psychedelic rock and contemporary gypsy music (manele) mainly from romania and bulgaria into the mix.

when gilles peterson reacts to a house record, you know it is a very special house record. deep and soulfull, love it - was what the 6 music dj thought of these two. if that wasnt enough, trickski described best things in life are free as one hell of a bomb. add in support from jimmy edgar, mark e, severino and dusky and this is looking like one of glasgow undergrounds most successful records to date. love games is the a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing. what starts off as hooky percussive groove slowly morphs into a full vocal classic with swirling chords and a killer synth hook. severino dropped it at fabric recently and took the roof off the place. best things in life are free is a darker affair – all wandering acid lines and moody, emotional strings - but as trickski proved when they played it at watergate, just as effective.

our second release of 2013 comes from lovers rights, the glasgow based-trio featuring members of golden teacher, silk cut & dam mantle. on this, their debut release for high sheen, they have laid down 4 killer house cuts spawned from improvisation heavy, free flowing electronic jams and completed with painstaking attention to detail. from the raw, rolling subs of urn to the complex multi textured synth patterns of mt. florida, each track has its own individual identity all the while working together within the cohesive whole of the ep. this is electronic dance music built with dancefloor freakouts in mind and we absolutely love it. the 12 inch comes packaged in a twice hand screen printed, roughcast sleeve, designed by sam bellacosa.

daniel helmer and ben manzone started making tracks as sycorax back in early 2011. since then they have self-released 2 in demand 12 inches. in the spring of 2012 they debuted their live all hardware set at the bunker in brooklyn. their second 12 inch titled orfamay quest was a top seller of 2012 at halcyon records. mike simonetti has known ben from sycorax for over 15 years, and is probably more proud of this release than any other to date. true underground sounds.

having recently relocated to london, urulu & chaos in the cbd join forces for needwants next stellar release. sharing the same musical passion and vision, yet each holding distinct style and influences, they were able to come together and deliver something really special. a combination of four deep, diverse cuts where old school meets the new school.

riding high on the wings of their previous release pulling strings on their red series, eclectic avenue records bring us rear002 deep in it by small giants. small giants is the wonderfully ingenious marriage between leeds based label manager jacob kelly (j.cub) and the chicago house legend joshua iz. combining their skills, they have taken a heady guitar lick, underpinned it with a smoothly infectious bassline and sewn it all together with a warm soothing vocal sample. call it house, call it disco. either way, it is a surefire dancefloor killer and will take pride of place in any dj or collectors record box. flip her over for a remix by leeds darlings pbr streetgang. currently the hottest thing to come out of dance musics unofficial capital, the cheeky duo have put their own twist on the original by filling the track out with some chuggier deeper vibes whilst highlighting the instrumental solos. a hugely successful foray into a funkier tone for what promises to be another trophy in the e.a.r cabinets.

after storming the charts in 2012 with mysterious 7 inch championed by todd terje & many others, zambon & kapsa - the guys from the very polish cut outs are back with more goods! following the successful debut, they bring us a delicious 12 inch release with 4 amazing edits based on obscure polish records from the 80s. a side is curated by ptaki, a mysterious duo hailing from warsaw. ptaki (which means birds in polish) fly high and want to keep their true identity under the radar. nevertheless, they serve two amazing cuts here, both based on obscure polish jazzfunk. krystyna is the choice cut, with its infectious vocal hook and irresistible groove. marek is a piece of wonderful balearic slow house with rich rhythm and crazy synth action in the middle. b side comes from maciek sienkiewicz, one of the finest purveyors of balearic grooves in poland. two tracks served here wouldnt sound out of place in alfredos set. song for mohindar is the lead track, with its ethereal new-age atmospherics and exotic instrumentation. syntetyczna kobieta lux is an electronic burner that you may (or may not) know from last years tvpc beats in space show.

the deeply layered rhythms and atmospheric elements that refracted shows across the four tracks on along a ghostly trail make a perfect match for silent season, as the berlin based newcomer joining some illustrious company in the shape of stl, djorvin clain and edanticonf in contributing to the canadian labels rise. clouds of sub bass meld rhythmically with the stripped back percussive lilts of enlightenment as they traverse a scenic back drop of textural atmospherics, whilst the title track is similar in tone if imbued with a spectral feeling that justifies the name. contrasting this, both oo-koo-he and hyperdimension are gloopy bassline lead arrangements that slowly swell around the senses.

currently two of the busiest men in contemporary deep house, alex agore and james johnston have still found the time to establish their joint no matter what recordings as a potent outlet. this sixth release sees johnston at the buttons for sole control after a couple of split releases and the consumer ep demonstrates a further refinement of his own distinct brand of house music. arriving on transparent vinyl, lead track give him prozac sets the tone with a thick four note synth lead that accrues all manner of dreamlike analogue qualities as it progresses backed by those crisp rolling rhythms johnston is known for. columbo likes the nightlife takes things on a notably deeper path, all dubby chords and intricate skipping percussive touches augmented by epic sweeping textures, whilst face down and they had cocktails maintains the same feel if upping the pace somewhat. johnston ends strongly with the sublime analogue build of the sleepwalker.

the mad aussies at haul music have changed things up a lot since the inception of their digital imprint nearly 5 years ago. in what might be described as a backwards move made by label-men who have simply lost their edge, they began releasing on vinyl only. first with a limited run of ornately illustrated portraits of the label owners, and now they are set to present a vinyl-only release from a cast of relative-unknowns.

for our third release, we are joining forces with bristol stalwart - kowton - finding the link between two genres that are very close to our hearts - grime & techno. built as an ode to ruff sqwads raw 2 da core, kowton is able to build up and take down the rough and rugged aesthetic that is found within both genres in just over 5 minutes. on the flip, taking on the original is blawan and pariahs collaborative project - karenn (sheworksthelongnights). keeping true to the spirit of uk techno, they manage to translate the raw and grimey quality of the original through a heap of analogue gear, all in one take.
