its been 18 months since our first nang release, d-pulses >more<. nestled on that release was an extra ep track called >highway to saturn<. much to our delight it turned out to be a bit of a gem. when it featured on the tirk 02 and kitsune ponystep / jerry bouthier compilations we knew we were all onto something. (cue the overdrive and the interstellar vocal.) slovenian-based, us singer, hannah mancini, provides those cosmic vocals, ably recorded by sare havlicek in sunny ljubljan. after a sly re-titling of the track (to avoid confusion with the original the name has been extended to >on a highway to saturn<) its on to the obligatory over-the-top nang remix package...first up is a new version from d-pulse for those long summer nights. their >australian shore reversion< mix slows down the groove to a balmy evening by noosa shores pace. space-rock, guitar solos, smouldering synths and lazy rhythms all combine to make this one for the beach house. sare havlicek adds a couple of mixes of his own. keeping things hi-energy he goes for the disco jugular with his trademark stabby synths and tight production. nang newcomers, proper heat, strip things back and go for a slow-grooving baltic-disco chugger. rounding off the remix package is japanese based jan ken po (aka max essa). he delivers a dance floor friendly version with a big and bold walking bass riff and tasteful synths
time and again, when everything appears to have come to a complete standstill, you will find yourself seriously wondering what the future of electronic club music is going to be like. what will come next? and it was at that very moment when suddenly a new record appeared on the market to satisfy this longing for new, fresh sounds: sascha dives the basic collective pt. 1. in the meantime, almost 4 years and innumerable releases later, a new genre of house music has developed from and around the concept of this young, highly inspired frankfurt-based artist.
the 3rd release by sonic (resident u60311, airport, thai break) and amused mastermind taste t. this time they cite the commandante che guevara and the top-class remixes leave just one question: which mix shall i play? the a1 starts with an unbelievable earthbound and groovy remix by pier bucci. the chilean artist plays competent with grooves and vocals. the jacuzzi boys delivered an absolute master piece on a2. housy but extremely playful. the most housiest edit on b2 comes from the frankfurt veteran and coccon resident toni rios. hi-strings & house cords û nearly a classic house tune at its best. on b2 the dj discovers the original by taste t & sonic. a techhouse bomb with groovy percussion elements which completes this ep package.
3 generations walking, the culmination of producers mkl & soy sos, return with the follow up to slavery days. to live feat. gary french on lead vocals gracefully singing in his native french dialect over a moving dancefloor friendly groove, accented by live drums & flugel horn. on the flip, to dub, the raw undertones of john hall on electric bass & andrew pearl on drums set the stage for the mesmerizing trumpet solo of ian gordon
it only takes one listen to jee days >like a child< and its whirling, hypnotic rush to recognize the know-how that has made studio whiz dennis dj mcnany a go-to source in new york citys dance music scene. over the last decade, the sound architect has become a musical jack-of-all-trades: fine tuning releases from outfits such as the rapture and turing machine, working on early output from dfa records, maintaining his own run roc label, remixing artists like panthers, ghostape and digable planets ladybug mecca, and contributing keyboards and percussion on tour with the juan maclean. in light of the already impossibly long list of credits to mcnanys name (including the numerous pseudonyms under which he has released his own music) the jee day debut 12 inch is a bit like a first listen to an artist who audiences, ironically, have already heard many times before.

leave it up to nyc label on the prowl to score some authentic yet modern day latin freestlyle. hot latina corinne croons about love and nightlife while her partner brooklyn producer josh anzano does the dirty work. the result is a heart felt dancefloor banger that will sure to be thumping out of car trunks this summer. for this single we get the original, a dub mix which nods to 80s style tape edits, and of course the mighty runaway bomb of a remix. runaway takes the vocals and lays them across a hands in the air chicago-esque drum machine groove spiced with live bass and speaker blaring pads. very big indeed!
