we think everything we release on frijsfo is fresh. at the same time we believe it doesnt hurt to stay in touch with your roots, which is something buzzin10 does in a fascinating way. we cant tell you much about this young producer from east london, a publicity-shy individual whose music we first heard thanks to his older brother. but we do know he pieces together rhythms by sampling fragments from old tape packs – mainly garage nations late 90s recordings of some of the best djs of all time, including dj ez, karl tuff enuff brown, dj luck & mc neat, and ray hurley.

submerse is 23 year old rob orme who splits his time between north west england and tokyo. he has already had a guardian new band of the day feature, which claimed him to be making some of the most heartbreakingly beautiful (dance) music anywhere on the planet. this came after just a handful of eps and a free download album that blend his love of j-pop and 2 step. his debut ep for apollo showcases how his productions have moved on in complexity and accomplishment moving between the digital hip hop of 8bit romance and the glitchy electronica of cluster to the recognizable garage mutations of give it up and they always come back.

on side b, >underwater chord< is again a jungle bass tune but on a different vibe. it is a brighter sounding track, due to the chords and sounds used, which wouldnt be out of place in a liquid style production. with both tracks there is a tip of the cap towards the old skool sound.

(it is also better than pretty much everything on little boots own spotty debut, 2009s hands.) the housey original version of >every night< incorporates a sort of cleaned-up old-school chicago aesthetic (dig the claps), but tensnakes posh freestyle rerub is the vinyls real winner. you can never go wrong with clinking 808s and pretty female vocals. fact.

berlin based daniel dexter is part of the new breed of producers showing us why theres still mileage in the good old house groove. his cultured, expressive productions have the mark of a true talent and mr. dexter has only just begun. the acid-revival lives on.storm is a heavy, late night tale of sax, e-piano and stomping synth basslines. growing from a filtered intro, its song like structure drives us into true reckless abandon - perfect for the darker moments of the night, but still oozy with funk and soul. the thick, percussive opening bars of there will be jazz lead to a focus on one of dexters chosen weapons - more jazzy saxophone samples and synthesized strings lift us into a musical crescendo of tension, yet theres a laid back, new york vibe to the track, which will no doubt get plenty of plays this summer. the mysterious murder is a darker affair, shrouded in rave-era stabs and a real pushing vibe. its clear that daniel is a dextrous (no pun intended) producer with plenty of tricks up his sleeve

march sees the formidable hypercolour deliver its most surprising output yet, an ep from none other than groove armada. tom findlay and andy cato need little introduction as groove armada. chart smashes, huge live tours and being part of the worldwide electronic music history aside, the duo have never lost touch with their acid house roots and have continued to be devoted to record buying, djing and the much maligned promo trawl. tom and andy have been avid followers of the label it seemed, since its inception. it was through label head jamie, meeting the guys back in 2010 at space in ibiza, and then continued communication via hypercolour promos, that led to an out-of-the-blue email requesting an informal hook up in east london and, within just a few days, a release was scheduled. that release is the >no knock ep<, four tracks that range from 808 fuelled old school cuts to low slung, moog-bassd electronic funk. each sound is lovingly crafted but there is an analog rawness throughout and every track has the sort of tweaked, off-kilter and occasionally awkward vibe that hypercolour do so well. it just takes a bit of imagination to guess what a ga release on hypercolour should sound but failing that, just check the release out as it wont disappoint.
