shintaro.d is new on the scene, but this promising japanese producer follows up on his debut on his own label init with this assured 12inch for jus groove it, taking the stripped down deep house template and injecting it with an off-kilter approach to sound design that subtly makes for one of the most effective dj tools heard in recent memory. that track in question is kohisikarubeki, and its remix by rhythm & soul takes those intricately carved shards of sound design and smooths them into a more conventional house music shape. the b-side finds shintaro.d turning out more of that subversive, future-minded deep house business, with waganamidakana being a clear highlight.

stephen laubner never fails to deliver the goods, whether on his own label something or elsewhere. having recently popped up on the untold stories, this time around hes dropping his uniquely crusty compositions on synthetic gold. after a quietly disconcerting ambient opening, the leftfield grind of the taphead pushes an uncompromising agenda of ragged bass and an unrelenting groove. october sunrise by way of contrast is a more intimate, sweet natured affair. syntax error too taps into the softer side of laubner s craft in a most mesmerizing of ways, but for the die hard fans fear not, there s also plenty of locked groove loops included to keep you tripping into infinity.

for the third release on decoder recordings, filip xavi makes his debut to the label. the serbian producer and resident dj of the drugstore club in belgrade delivers four superb techno tracks. all of them are characterized by an obscure sound but directly aimed at the dance floor. the first track wd-4d is a powerful opening of the ep, with its successor aw-fl keeping pace nicely. the b side of this ep can t be ignored, as the opening track he-ap kicks off quite fierce. the final composition named d-ui is an excellent hypnotic dj tool.

this is the first 12 inch from luke jenner’s first solo project since his infamous new york band the rapture split up. very often first releases are like a statement. both sides of this 12 represent a side of what meditation tunnel is about: epic and melodic on dreamsequence, psychedelic and hypnotic on sunrise. mixed by joakim, whom luke shares a studio with in brooklyn.

london based electronic music label khemia records announces its sixth split release vinyl ep. the second edition of the magnum opus series on khemia records features a new production from berlin based modular powerhouse blush response alongside an electrifying collaboration between years of denial, who have previously released on oliver ho’s death and leisure label and russian techno auteur alexey volkov (jealous god). on the solar side blush response delivers ‘you will cry out in grief’ a maelstrom of industrial electronics seethes under a furious barrage of complex rhythms, as evolving symmetries disperse into incandescence. on the lunar side years of denial meet alexey volkov in the first of a new collaborative series - ‘confess’. barkosina hanusova’s voice ricochets against caustic snares as she intones a fetishistic ritual of contorted flesh and altered states.

chico buarque construcao revisited by l_cio is a beautiful debut project part of a doc series of releases combining classic brazilian names with doc artists and producers. l_cio (laercio schwantes) the man with the transverse flute known for some of the freshest and unique tracks coming out from brazil is behind this gemstone. increasingly building a legacy of fans following his live performances and recent releases on doc records (vazio, traffic, people talk, schwantes), this man is a non-stoppable 30 hours machine gun. on this long awaited 2-track limited edition vinyl release, l_cio and gui boratto kept the roots of this classic track construcao. however they added all the proper elements of a techno dance floor knockout. by inserting malicious baselines, flutes and strings they generated aggressive melodies while keeping all characteristics of this epic song. voted as the greatest brazilian song by rolling stones magazine, construcao was originaly recorded by chico buarque in 1971 with production by roberto menescal. released during military dictatorship, chico buarque criticizes the way of life of the brazilian workers, comparing them to machines. the song is known for its interchangeable last words, used as if they were pieces of a board game, as said by buarque. generatiions apart, construcao (l_cio & k_ri version) and construcao (l_cio & borattos deconstructed mix) are the first ever authorized remixes in over 45 years. l_cio the latest dance floor brazilian soldier, a menacing builder of beats completes an epic turnnig point by editing and lapidating a classic poetry. with a b side dub version beutifully crafted by label boss gui boratto, this limited edition pearl is finally here for our joy!

in a new transatlantic partnership, uk label secret reels and washington, dc imprint better listen records have teamed up for a run of collaborative records. the joint brand, secret listen, combines the labels in sound as well as in name. imagine the lush, pensive and moody deep house tones of secret reels joining with the sample-heavy disco soul leanings of blr. secret listen vol. 1 takes two artists each from both rosters for the first amalgamation. the -secret side- hosting english producers harry wolfman and chocky, while the listen side invites sune and vitamin d of high hat appreciation society and the newly founded honey butter records to the affair. it s a v/a release with a variety of offerings and flavours. wolfmans floozy sits first in the record as a bright and whimsical flute-led morsel, while chockys inner disco is a cerebral, loopy cut. on the flip, sune provides some exquisite rhodes action in his groovy midtempo effort, glidin, and his swedish compatriot closes out the affair with the bittersweet lately.

late august will see b.soul music limited release the various artists package thanks 4 nothin , a four-track vinyl only release from the tuscan imprint. marcos baiano s b.soul imprint was launched in 2013 and across its back catalogue has welcomed an array of classic and contemporary talents onto its roster from house legend jovonn through to music for freaks co-founder justin harris and parisian producer terence :terry. here we see the label push on with its second vinyl release set to be released via its ltd offshoot and offered up as a various artist four track package. bosconi soundsystem artist rufus takes the lead on the release with realize dis with classic house tropes, employing a bumpy swinging rhythm as the foundation whilst murky pad swells and spoken word vocals ebb and flow throughout the composition. label-head marcos baiano follows with nullll , stripping things back to shuffled hats and wandering rave stabs before the latter stages introduce a warm ethereal pad. opening up the flip side is retro activity aka ivan iacobucci s rocket edging things into techno territory with weighty drums, mind bending synth flutters and an ever-unfolding, billowing atmosphere. drmc s do not disturb then closes the package on a minimal tip with modulating percussion, minute organic drum shots and airy pad lines laid out over its seven and a half minutes.

japan is our first collaboration. the ambient sounds on this record are fragments from our month-long stay in japan during spring 2015: hundreds of tokyo ravens in yoyogi park, an old song found in an old man s small shop in kyoto, the bird-like traffic signals in naha, okinawa, blending with the distorted voice of a man with a megaphone and a message... back in stockholm, these sounds became documentary elements in our music as well as sources for creating new sounds. the small, beautiful bowl we had brought home went to pieces, and the sonic character of the ceramic pieces turned into a delicate drone.

this is the first release of the beau mot plage collective, the minimal/house focused project of la chinerie. this output introduces nunes, a talented young producer based in the south of france. it comes with two original tracks deeply leading into nunesÆ inspirations with jazzy vibe and an hypnotic feeling taking place through deep bass and sharp rhythmics. the b side is a remix made with all tracks from the well known traumer who delivers a more dancefloor oriented version of nunesÆ work.

on this record ben sun presents an old style lp format - 40 minutes of moods and grooves interwoven with an intimate story, of individuals struggling to live freely in a time of oppression. after a sultry jazz opener where the characters are introduced, the lp kicks off with a sweet and slow soul track in work again, underpinned by a rotating acid bass. third comes salty tears, the underground disco floor-filler (original limited 12 version) finding a second home on vinyl. your camera and monday usher in some moody rhythms to complete the first side. sin casa opens the flip with some minor-blues improvisation that gives way to a spacious deep house jam, where the protagonists emerge again. still missing shows deeper shades of a eurobeat style - an emotionally compelling club tune that sounds somewhere on the italo side of 1980s manchester. the story comes to a conclusion with cowardice, and the casual jazz-house sounds of mamans lover. killer album!!

some johannes’ words about his work for artcub records: “the title track “sawtooth novel” is my little hommage to the old sägezahn sound. there was a sägezahn renaissance in the rhein main area end of the 90’s, which was a huge influence for me when i went to clubs during this time. “counterbalance” has a rather subtle approach, the track lives from its effects and filtering. for the others tracks i want to express the more darker and dramatic side of techno, which is also well-equipped for the more excessive dancefloor hours.”

figure jams is back with a another fresh and exciting pairing of artists. this time the record is a collection of pure analogue goodness, sparkling ripe with synthesizer magic. the a-side comes courtesy of duo-of-the-moment twr72, who happen to distill perfection through simplicity in their stripped-back productions. while‚polished is a pulsating bit of beatless yet captivating clean-cut loops, their other contribution shows their talent at crafting something lean, dry and punchy, which is still undeniably driving and hypnotic. picking up on the synth-heavy theme of this release is st. petersburgs finest aleksey niktin aka nocow. inspired by the endless baltic winters, the producer packs his tracks with emtions that feel cold but not icy, engulfing the listener in winching waves of melancholic electronica.

as the summer closes and the autumn arrives the project releases its next selection with label boss frazer campbell and dark arts techno head stu crosbie. not a stranger to the label having appeared on the previous release stuart once again delivers his unique filtered sound of stripped back minimal techno with hints of trippy yet groovy influences of dark back room excursions. a real master of simplicity but exact definition of sombre sounds. the flip side presents a very different sonic description by frazer. ‘bleeding gums’ holds broken beat kicks with rolling drums but as always carries a true sense of emotion and warmth. the ep closes with ‘deebling mugs’ which is a production full of drive, dirty basslines and groove that will keep any dance floor moving as we wave goodbye to the summer of 2017.

tomoki tamuras holic trax label has long been renowned as a canny exporter of clued in house and techno. their latest continues in this regard, as tamura again calls on a series of renowned label friends to bring the heat. with names such as mr.g, satoshi tommie and tuccillo all appearing it here alongside tamura himself, it s no surprise that this 3 x vinyl record, celebrating 5 years of the label, is filled with drama and high points throughout. this is immediately obvious from mr.gs soba shioyaki. titled in homage to the label s japanese heritage, it s a dark and dexterous workout that marks another high point in a career filled with big records. deep but tough, it s a perfect of why the tech house master is so revered in underground circles. gs komorebi- puts a tough emphasis on the drums, as well as a weaving, subtle baseline that adds a further dynamic to his work here. ht24 comes from satoshi tommiie & tuccillo, two producers whose sounds are perfectly suited to holic s output. their four-track contribution starts with do it, a spiky catchy number that s exciting from the off. -what row- sees the boys inject some added funk into the equation, before to ray ups the intensity with a raw, pulverising aesthetic that takes no prisoners. wrapping up their side of the bargain is the digital only you know, a real bumper of a track with chicago-inspired synth stabs that help bring it to higher planes. it s the left to tamura himself to close the offering via ht25. a1, the appropriately named -5ive years is a techno workout of the type that s notable for its off-kilter motifs and a stubborn, industrial feel. unforgiving and full of atmosphere, it s the sign of a producer who clearly knows his way around he mixing deck. polyphonic six displays the producer s more introspective sound thanks to a melancholic perspective that s hard not to embrace. all things told, this is a wonderfully diverse package from tamura & co. here s to the next 5!

for the first release feelings have enlisted iranian born, london-based producer kasra v, delivering an incredible slice of middle-eastern inspired house. on the a side is the early 90s inspired fantasy, a dance floor thumper with a tribal house feel you could imagine rolling out the speakers at a dreamscape party, followed by the dreamy pris providing a contrasting sunrise vibe to the prior track. on the flip is myth a steady piano-led builder inspired and written in the style of southern iranian tribal music, followed by a remix of the same track from legendary nyc producer cozmo d under his dream 2 science alias bringing a straighter dancefloor ready versioin with the heavy deep house flavours his d2s project is lauded for.

nice price deal !!! this aa side 12inch single brings together two seemingly distant, yet somehow closely related zones of psychedelia. one side brings the original version of magic carpet ride by kontiki suite, a dense and hypnotic epic culminating in a wall of guitar and harmony, just the way we like it. far out.on the flip, the time and space machine, aka richard norris, fresh from remixes of dj harvey, tame impala and bryan ferry, stretches the original out into a cosmic psych jam from outer space.guaranteed to get the hipsters swinging!

having previously released on appian sounds, fred p’s boards and efdemin’s naif, o.utlier debuts on sze with an exploration of reflections and resonances in the self from objects and experiences in the environment.
the a-side features “eastbound”, a breakbeat driven slice of techno built for the club, charging forward on a journey through dizzy pads, bouncing oddball basslines and textural pressure. next up is “letat”, an ambient breath of air, both melancholic and uplifting. the b-side strides further into the unknown with “rhodesamp (whacked out revamp)”, a transmission of dubbed-out meditation. rounding off the release is “ava”, a hypnotic wedge of dub techno with a middle eastern feel.

steffi occupies a unique space in the realm of contemporary electronic music. although she s a world renowned dj, steffi s musical interests reach far beyond the dancefloor, and it s her work as a producer that has established an impressive, hard-won legacy. soon after moving to berlin in 2007, steffi joined ostgut, becoming a resident at panorama bar and releasing on the club s label. to date she s released five albums, including two solo for ostgut ton, a co-production with virginia, another with analogue cops as third side and a collaboration as doms & deykers on martyn s 3024 label. her impressive discography features club classics like “ yours feat. virginia” , carefully chosen remixes and appearances on labels including permanent vacation, underground quality and mixes for panorama bar and fabric. she owns and operates four labels: klakson (with dexter), dolly, dolly deluxe and dolly dubs. world of the waking state is steffi s third solo album for ostgut ton and a musical departure for both her and the label. it s also a serious statement of intent. over ten tracks she embarks on entirely new electronic terrain for her productions, marking industrial spaces with superlunary warmth while exercising a refined knowledge of polyphony and arrangement. subdued melodies interact with each other over implied harmonies and microcosmic drum patterns, luring us into a world that is introverted, bewildering and gratifying all at once.
