in 2011, julia thompson (dj black b1tch) gave me a tdk sa90 tape of a spontaneous live jam by insync recorded in her flat in forest hill, south london in march 1991. she had found it in a drawer when clearing out stuff. she gave it to me to listen to simply thinking i might be interested in hearing it. of course i was, particularly because the date on the tape immediately told me that the session was recorded more than a year before the release of insyncs debut, the seminal storm on irdial discs.

it has been over a year since the last schmorgasbord release dropped, which saw al tourettes (better known now as second storey) rubbing up against paradroid in a mix up of electro, techno and electronica styles. now the label returns with bass clef and frak, who were asked to each commit a half-finished sketch of a track to tape, exchange tapes and finish off each others tracks. bass clef has been a strong solo force on the electronic music scene since he first emerged in the wider bass music field in 2006, and has since released on idle hands, punch drunk, pan and public information as well as running his own magic + dreams imprint. swedish trio frak have been releasing since their debut album in 1987 when they were thirteen years old. the swedish trio have been active for most of that time, running borft records and releasing a huge amount of music as well as performing live. in recent years they have enjoyed more recognition with releases on kontra musik, digitalis and sex tags mania. schmorgasbord launched in 2011 with a release that saw appleblim and october collaborating for the first time. it was followed up by a release from s-max and spatial.

neueheimat is joinig the cirque du minimaliste family on its sublabel manege with his debut release *quartier3*. neueheimat was founded near hamburg in 2012 by dennis grell. after working for many years as a commissioned producer and remixer for publishers and labels, dennis wished to start his own, new project and truly realise his creativity. conceptually, the aim is for the music to blend seamlessly with his photographs of urban architecture and to document the anonymity of life within city walls. influenced by artists such as anders trentemøller, jon hopkins, trent reznor and the earlier einstürzende neubauten, dennis began creating his own definition of electronic music. neueheimat and subsequently *quartier3 ep* are characterised by dennis clear style of production: a few lighter passages, but primarily creating a deep and murky impression. large spaces leave room for interpretation and present the listener with images that either they have never seen or have been missing for a long time. created on old analogue equipment, mixed on a 30-year-old tape recorder and mastered by mastering engineer stefan betke (tresor, cabaret voltaire, lucy, laibach), *quartier3* is a significant milestone in dennis production history.

the black key team step up once again, this time with the third in their limited, vinyl-only series, with freerotation resident and established producer, tom ellis, delivering 4 sublime tracks of subtle and hypnotic house music, in the form of the simply titled -limited volume 3-. now undoubtedly an established and respected label, brighton (uk) based black key records are approaching their third year in the business, having released records from the likes of blm, iron curtis, pawas, flori and ugly drums, all of which have gained attention for all the right reasons. here, tom ellis delivers an excellent and intelligent ep, with all 4 tracks displaying the talent this man posses for creating a unique and instantly likeable take on deep house music... the right kind. there is no question that this limited release will appeal to the real heads among us - quality stuff. this ep is yet another statement from the black key camp, proving their worth in true style.

deo & z-man, the blood-brothers from hamburg, pulled off one of the most creative feats of last year with their debut album, no bullshit , with zero bs but plenty of inspiration, the pair melted together a range of influences with a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek humour for their underground opus. the remix lp to follow this ep solidifies their commitment to the eclectic, drafting in friends and family like lee burton, erobique and tigerskin to rework the magic.

october is back with his first solo 12 after appearing on fred ps spm label last year. both cuts will please lovers of octobers trademark slow techno sound and also hint at the industrial influences which he explores more heavily on his debut lp, forthcoming on skudge white.

last year moscow records set up sub-label moss co and each release so far has introduced a new set of artists. for this third release it is nu zau, aka stefan gabriel zamfir and loopdeville, aka d zlatinov. nu zau debuted on fear of flying in 2012 and his 2013 was prolific with seven releases added to his name. he provides an 11-minute drum track, *cumse cuvine*, that is filled with kooky and super minimal, squeaks, tweets and vocal samples, a fine production. loopdevilles kick drum on *piance* in comparison to zaus a-side is standout, and here he provides a cold and moody track designed for those deeper moments of the night. it is the london-based producers third release after debuting in 2013 with two 12 inches, one of which, phantasmagoria, inaugurated new label delooped.

a twenty year break away from making music is almost unheard of especially within electronic music circles, but that is where antenna happy finds himself with pinto. clocking in at 9.09 pinto draws from psychedelia and techno set straight for the sun. this kaleidoscopic sonic excursion has all the makings of a cult classic, and heads up the debut 12- release on newly founded imprint reinhardt records. taking lead on the b-side an entirely different affair in the shape of fallen. this is benchmark electronic music, as arpeggiators take flight mirrored against hypnotic acid bass, for a journey into the outer house territories. closing the ep, spark holds the reigns. conceived within the same stretch as pinto, however it wasn t until some months later that spark took on its full form. emotive modular synths lay the groundwork, connecting the dots between low-slung techno and house music, culminating in a track that sits in neither genre camp. spark will appear on the digital release only. the ep title track takes its name and inspiration from paintings by antenna happy s three-year-old daughter, whose birth inspired him to return to making music. close-ups of these paintings can be seen in the artwork for the release.

skylax welcomes f.t.g., known to house music scholars as freddy the groove, and his many friends for our next release in 2014. last year, f.t.g. and his italian partner in crime, marco riff (who also appears on this very record), pressed a very limited run of a single-sided, special throwback tribute to late 80s chicago house music. the track was aptly named ‘tribute ’89’, and it put a more dancefloor oriented twist on a track by a certain originator with the initials r.h. needless to say, it became highly sought-after incredibly quickly and fuel was further added to the fire by the repeated club play by none other than the dj idol ricardo villalobos. luckily for our followers, that original mix appears on this ep with another unreleased mix of the track and 2 originals featuring belfie and alex tea alongside f.t.g.with enough said about ‘tribute ‘89’ itself, the unreleased mix maintains the warehouse vibe with a heavy kick and bouncing bass pattern but takes it to another level with the introduction of rolling vocal cuts and a rather ravey synth line. flipping over the to b-side, we are treated with two tracks by f.t.g. and alex tea, named ‘public enemy’ and ‘bango’, with the former also seeing belfie lend a helping hand in the production. both of these originals round out the record nicely and cement it as another skylax release that is definitely not to be missed

fear of flying kick off the new year with the next instalment in their vinyl only series, enlisting the talents of matthew burton & kate rathod. the second disc comprises of * raw moves*, a rough and ready analogue jam and the dawn chorus of * clive* whilst a trio of ambient skits, *analogue systems*, * raw circuits* and * beppe* round things off nicely. part 2 of 2.

located beyond neptunes orbit is the dwarf planet haumea, the inspiration behind rodhads second release for token. it follows his spomeniks 12inch from last year which the berliner used to debut on the belgian label, the only other imprint hes released with other than his own dystopian records. over the past three years rodhads reputation has sky-rocketed, not only as an accomplished producer with five releases to his name, but as a big room dj whose formidable presence behind the decks demands as much respect as dvs1 and german big guns dettmann and klock.

after few nolder, italian fellow lehar aka lorenzo esposito is the second new signing for connaisseur this year. apart from his residency at the cirq club in venice and regular bookings at some of the best clubs and parties in italy and malta, lehar truly is a very talented producer as well. some of you might have heard the free download for lehars remix of kollektiv turmstrasses classic *tristesse* which has caused some attention on him the past weeks and was therefore the perfect precursor for this release. his demo impressed us very much and both titles really hit our taste. and as though this wasn t enough, together with his demo he delivered a remix by his friend and probably hottest producer of the moment: mario basanov, head of the label boso and mostly know under his moniker ten walls.
