‘zibaldone i of cvx’ is the first in a series of releases from rupert clervaux (sian alice group, recent collaborations with beatrice dillon, spring heel jack, treader records...) which take their name from the title of italian poet giacomo leopardi’s extensive notebooks. they are collections of sketches, vignettes and musical footnotes to rupert’s ongoing and varied endeavours as a musician, listener, reader and writer. this first piece is in five sections (titles listed below), consisting of three thematic poetry recitals, read by clervaux and others over sweltering ambient arrangements, along with two clattering percussive tracks created using a variety of sounds across the fidelity spectrum and finely sourced, layered samples. the result is a meandering and diverse musical journey which threads together succinct meditations on originality by leopardi and silvina ocampo, and salutary warnings from hölderlin and derek walcott! ‘zibaldone i’ is presented as a 12” with a fold-out poster by belgian artist coline cornélis.

madame e. is a musical setting of georges bataille’s “madame edwarda”, a short novel that interlaces themes of eroticism, religiosity and death, and was written under the pseudonym pierre angelique in 1941, during the occupation of paris. composer mirco magnani wrote eleven electronic pieces and presented them to actor/singer ernesto tomasini. they turned them into songs by adding vocal melodies and together they produced a libretto based on bataille’s french text. the result of their dynamic interpretation is a hypnotically spellbinding performance where the audience is transported through worlds – ancient and new – and where tomasini’s haunting falsetto conveys the tormented emotions in bataille’s work and becomes the instrument that articulates the writer’s famously obscure themes.

new band name, new lp, the former max graef band toured and worked on new music all year. musical progress, and the impression of not enough edge and rawness in a lot of recent music, inspired and motivated a majority of the recording. the band has grown as a unit and wrote a lot of material together this year in late night sessions. during 2 weeks of recording the new songs in the studio the goal was to try all sorts of instruments, amps and effects and be open to any combination of sounds. furthermore, they and engineer lutz fahrenkrog-petersen tried to capture and maintain the raw feeling of the live recordings using almost exclusively analog pedals and racks as well as keeping the editing of the recordings to a minimum. although bands like et cetera (wolfgang dauner), embryo or xhol have heavily infuenced max graef and his band, the result turned out very original ranging from distorted jazz-rock to experimental soul, electronic percussion workouts to free sound experiments and psychedelic rock. with some tracks being around 14 minutes long, it is better to let the music speak for itself though.

baricentro is an italian funk-rock band founded in 1976 by two brothers francesco and vanni boccuzzi, after the release of two albums in mid seventies (sconcerto and trusciant) for the major record company emi they recorded in 1983 the single tittle tattle representing a clear innovation in sound from their past, without believing that would receive a positive response in the new york city underground music scene and soon becoming a paradise garage and loft classic. best record italy today came out with this special reissue-project as a limited edition ep, remastered from the original master tapes and containing for the first time all the versions from 1983 and 84 including the unreleased dub that was previously available as an acetate cut only for deejay play.

six years ago, claremont 56 boss paul ‘mudd’ murphy tried to track down via his dj network, former freeez band-members john rocca and andy stennett to license pink rhythm’s “melodies of love”, for one of the originals compilations. they didn’t show up on the radar.
earlier this year, however, out of the blue, stennett got in touch with murphy. for much of the last two decades, he’d been living on a remote island off orkney, but was now pursuing music again.

s-audio is the result of a long standing collaboration between the two dj s and producers from barcelona sbri and audio-in. they currently share most of their time by co-working in their studio, moved by the common passion for house, acid techno, electro, breaks and experimental. now delivering their first release on their own label s-audio recordings.

axpin debuts with its ep „gilgamesh“, including three deep house tracks and a first floor remix of mastermind christian burkhardt (cocoon, oslo, cbsessions). it smoothly combines multifarious arrangements and arousing melodies with a forward pushing club sound. suitable for the dance floor as well as the afterparty at home, this ep transports the listener to a faraway world of subtle grooves, pushing drums and mesmerizing sound design. „gilgamesh“ is a track based on the story about the journey of an ancient emperor, searching for enlightenment in the highlands of mesopotamia. so it comes as no surprise that a driving beat breaks through the laid back percussions and hypnotizing atmospheres. wandering through this track side by side with mysterious pads and exotic sounds, a lost but defying melody accompanies the listener on his steps. „catiba“ is a track with a multilayered arrangement, that doesn’t necessarily reveal its complexity on the first look. different rhythmic moods provide the structure for two melodic lines, competing at first but working perfectly together after a thrilling break, melting your soul. they’re supported by a pervading deep bass groove that will make your body vibrate.&#8232,,christian burkhardt summarizes both tracks’ features and unifies them in an impulsive club remix that floats every second and climaxes in a thrilling break. dry but playful, perfectly fitting for the dance floor without losing the warmth and lightness of the original. „kryon“ is the ep’s third and most expressive track. starting with lost parts of a melody, rather an echo in the vast distance, the track continuously increases its tension, extending the rhythms until the arrangement blasts out a stunning break that, contrary to all expectations, is a calm and compassionate moment with a transient theme. the clear production provides a place in the mix to each sound, a deep moog bass rumbles in the basement while the stimulating percussion coats

sos gunver ryberg, aïsha devi, rrose and paula temple are the four artists collaborating for decon/recon 2. the new record will be released as limited edition vinyl on noise manifesto. in this collaboration series, each artist has produced a track from all the artists sounds, yet the release credits all four artists equally on all four tracks. it is a symbolic act for reducing hierarchy, ego attachment in identity, preferring instead to shift the focus towards affinity. paula temple describes the bond in this second collaboration as every artist in this release approaches their creative energy particularly connected towards a more shamanistic mindset. when you listen to the progression of their music, it feels like the physical and mental realms we accept as reality and function within are being stripped away. maybe that is weird to say about underground dance music, but i find the journeys each of these artists take you on are very exciting in how they affect you.

its been some 7 years since reggie dokes was last seen & heard on a wph release, so safe to say this one is long overdue. our detroit hero took a bit of a hiatus from music production in recent years, but he is back and has been cooking up some serious heat. on wph 004 one of the tracks received a slight edit treatment by fcl and so red d decided it would be a nice twist to do the same on this one. but seeing as san soda was globe-trotting again red d handled the edit duties solo. which is all academics really, because in the end its about reggies unique detroit sound. transpose & jazz is my mistress will appeal to any adventurous dance music dj because they cannot be categorized or compared to anything. they are reggie dokes tracks and reggie dokes tracks are what they are: reggie dokes tracks
