zopelar is one of our dearest local prodigies. hailing from a small-town at the heart of brasil and devoting his life to music from an early age, his love for this artform grew stronger as he explored the myriad layers that sedimented into today s pop. further developments led him to a classical training in the craft and the result is a burgeoning trajectory to which this ep is a crucial moment. one marked by the inflection on his approach, until then heavily influenced synth pop and post punk to the epiphany that followed his discovery of electronic dance music. a discovery that is translated to perfection, both conceptually and emotionally, by the title track of this ep, >falling in love<.

second release on the wonderful supafrico records digs up and dusts off four more mega-rare nuggets of superb afro funk. first up is the excellent afro disco groove of kabbalas ashewo ara, a lost gem originally released back in 82 on tiny uk independent red flame and now featuring highly on many collectors wants lists. next is buaris im ready, a chunk of pure dancefloor dynamite with a driving disco groove and great funky synths, taken from the ghanian singer and percussionists awesome 1979 disco soccer lp. on the flip we get the mega-rare and totally essential body & soul, a magnificent 10 minute mid-tempo afro workout recorded in 1980 by nigerian funkster william onyeabor. last up is a great extended edit of the ashantis brilliant funky bubbler everybodys groove with its floor-filling groove and wicked vocals. these lovingly remastered rarities sound better than ever making this ep a must for anyone with a taste for those incredible funky afro grooves.

another city now is the debut ep from ango aka andrew gordon macpherson, the next fresh voice hailing from montreal, canada on the luckyme label. a frequent collaborator with jacques greene, lunice & nycs azealia banks, now is the time for ango to step out alone. over this 6 track narrative - written on the road whilst touring in january 2011 – one hears late 80s pop, early 90s house and contemporary rnb arise in equal measure. every bit the writer as he is the producer, this record is a lyrically polarised selection of girl songs expressing the giddy way up and the painful way back down. but theres something defiantly warm in angos music that serves as a refreshing antidote to 2011s endlessly morose electronic music. where polysynths and hi hats spring above plates of live processed vocals, chopped samples are harmonised upon, punctuated with thumping drums. another city now is a balanced record: upbeat and deep, vintage and yet totally modern, as heart aching as it is uplifting. our tenth record is something special.

dubious prey is the 1st release of 2012 on sticks n stones recordings and the 2nd release from the nyc-via-sierra leone dj/producer lamin fofana. lamin is an electronic musician that produces music without category out of found sounds, human voices, digital synthesisers, analogue synthesisers and drum machines. his work can be found on such labels as dutty artz, grizzly and diskotopia the vinyl version of the e.p, contains 2 original tracks and a remix of the lead single by aramac. the e.p has been review on xlr8r and currently been supported by wmfu fm (new york), wifey (déjà vu), matt shadetek, contact and a bunch of other.

bearing the name as one of the most influential and highly rated electronic artists from the spanish scene, uner joins cadenza for the first time with the two piece palua ep. clocking up some flawless releases over the last few years on imprints such as diynamic, 2020 vision, get physical or defected among others, uners percussion and funk led productions have caught the ears of many and cadenza proudly welcome him aboard in the opening weeks of 2012.

mustard pimps full length album, >no title of purpose<, is finally set for release via dim mak records. the album, a patchwork of their diverse influences, features collaborations with some of todays rising and established stars including: skrillex, atari teenage riot, chali 2na and more. the first single, >money shot<, an intense rocker of a track, features jimmy urine of the famed group mindless self indulgence and was released worldwide on dim mak in march. the second single, >zhm<, comes with a cause celebrate music video already banned on youtube. the third single, >catch me<, features alec empire (of dim maks own atari teenage riot) over frenetic breakbeats.

after long years of work the author of unique and successful albums shallow and profound (2000) & splendid isolation (2005) is back with his new long-player, passive control, which is considered to be the third, closing part of the trilogy. passive control is another typical contradictory, multilayered yonderboi title that can be explained in different ways. one of them refers to the constantly changing and unpredictable economical/social situation of today, which is witnessed by most of us inertly, hoping that this recession-thing gets sorted out soon.

rivet puts a lot of effort in his sounds and his production. this is not another copycat. first out on the ep >amid the roar< is >metrist<, a sexy march that blends the stiffness 80-ties disco with techno from the future. on the b-side marcel fengler takes his turn on >metrist<. he keeps the string of the original, chops up the bass and creates a dancefloor monster with a big anthem alert stamp on it. amid the roar ends with what might be the strongest track on the ep. this ep will make us dance, of course, as always, with a bit of a kontra-musik twist.

mrsk on skudge! their fellow swede and long time friend drops his debut on the label and smashes it! tip! the label say: in time, skudge releases the second and rugged release on skudge presents. mrsk does things in his own style, where stripped, waveish sounds builds onto each other.

after two smoldering releases on figure & spc, roberto bosco is back for his third offering for len fakis spc imprint. a future-classic 4 track techno ep, with more than enough to keep the peak time floors happy, this is big room music at its most intelligent and sensitive. easing us into the thick of it, charming noise takes humming, rumbling bass tones and a metallic clang as its themes. slow burning and readily effective, its a brooding monster for the late hours. i just cant breathe pushes the adrenalin up a few notches in a screaming, white noise attack on the senses. boscos trademark heavy bass rumble and crisp percussion layers hold their own in this reduced killer. were then ready to embark on an emotional voyage as the masterful see the light emerges from the depths with its pushing acid bass and beautiful atmospheric melody. classic strings and synths swirl and build in a tender and heartfelt piece of timeless techno. closing the ep, i was lonely takes the vibe into more reduced, after-hours zones with robertos cool and low-slung take on the smoother sound of futuredeep house.

it seems that dance music is an everlasting quest for new and fresh hybrids. dimitri batsis aka dans mon salon, introduces a work which will be loved by music enthusiasts and djs alike on the upcoming amplify label. his attempt to renovate all rave feelings of the early 90s is obvious while keeping it fresh and contemporary.
