rnt is turning 10 releases old with this special and varied ep from michael the lion. known recently for his work on soul clap records, michael flexes his edit skills on this one, flipping some funk on the a-side with any time, and serving up classic italo cheek with the don.the b-side erupts with the disco-house-bringer-downer get more and finishes smooth with a fresh take on a wellworn sample with 909s and herb, a coproduction with sammy bananas, of fool s gold record fame. this milestone record is a choice celebration of the quality that the rnt label has come to personify.

ednic is the italian duo of nicola di gabbia and edoardo cortopassi, and by all intents and purposes, they’re an outfit that’s on to a good thing right now. the guys make quality, analog-enriched house and techno, the likes of which comes to the fore here on puas puas, a vinyl only label that’s already featured the likes of the mole, alex piccini and carola pisaturo amongst others. first up on the exceptionally refined strands of the auberste ep sis the sounds of the original, which is a barnstorming cacophony of acid flourishes and tension-filled motifs. a track that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat for some time, it features shades of old-school electro and techno, and is the sort of track that’ll definitely rescue any ailing dancefloor. the aforementioned carola pisaturo then perks up with the first of her two remixes courtesy of her brilliant ‘church’ mix. a bumping and grinding interpretation on the original, it too keeps the suspense high, most notably thanks to a dizzying array of melodies and a series of potent basslines. her ‘botta’ remix is a more stripped back affair, albeit one that still speaks to fans of discerning fare thanks to its relentless attitude. full of shiny percussion and the odd sultry vocal smidgen, it’s further indication of a producer who looks set to enjoy an excellent 2015. this is classy stuff indeed from the puas puas label.

after 25 years of production leo anibaldi has decided to involve some of his favorite artist on a remixes project to give some modern touch of his old works. the remixes will be published in four different vinyls. leo anibaldi & sebastian mullaert aka minilogue has shared the first one, evocation ep is a track come from void album released on rephlex (aphex twin label), in the early 90s. sebastian mullaert has given his beatiful vision and touch on four different tracks really introspective and meditative on a single project.

fkclub aka marc lapeyre did it again with the illuminati ep on astrolab. mixing modern synth and old school analog sounds to create a dirty, catchy and powerful track: illuminati. volta is new wav-ish with its dark synth bass and voice, like depeche mode on magic mushrooms. pilooskis remix of illuminati brings the track to a point of dissonance and trippy arp, where the man show us one more time what a flair he has for it.

ot one for elaborate biographies or fancy press packs, twentysomething year old italian producer thomas a.s. simply prefers to let his music speak for him. and when you are constantly releasing tracks like the ones that make up his upcoming north lake ep, a string of fancy words are the last thing you need.

first up here is kenloto, a chunky bit of bass driven house with crisp perc. it builds to a nice tense peak with lots of loose, jumbled textures and will make for a fine bit of peak time listening. the other original is whack, which is another tough house cut with firm bass, old school new jersey snare patterns and rolling drums that are rich, warm and rubbery. miguel lobo s remix is a more spritely thing with lithe chords, colourful synths and and a pent up energy that just never stops giving. closing out the fantastic package is paul c & paulo martini who remix kenloto into a trippy affair with ghoulish voices, hard hitting drums and lots of dark wave energy that will carry you late into the night.

vermillion lands with an inter-stellar remix package. french techno connoisseur agoria leads us on a minimal, spaced out trip through shining synths and swift vocal echoes. acclaimed house maverick and hot creations head honcho jamie jones has been closing his dj sets for the last few weeks with his own remix. its bouncing, old school house tip bounding beneath bright gospel turns of phrase, approaching near classic status with arms aloft receptions on the dancefloor. and finally berlin’s deniz kurtel, who pulls her penchant for polyrhythmic percussion to the fore, casting sweet tribal grooves across an original surely destined to become a dancefloor anthem this summer.

despite refusing to stick to a single genre, deft is one of those immediately recognisable producers, which is nice because it means we dont have to waste any time comparing him to anyone else. 2013 saw the croydon man skilfully hopping from headphone to dance styles, often within a track, his signature blend of cinematic soundscapes and crisp, intricate percussion covering hip-hop, house, and ambient. whats more, his noteworthy contributions to the burgeoning uk footwork scene means the young producer can now count mark pritchard, dj shadow and rockwell among his biggest fans, and boy does this boy have fans, check this bandcamp review of his project mooncircle ep voight kampff: anything this magician puts out has a pretty good chance of getting you pregnant right in the good old music hole. says it all really

4th and final part of this legendary morris audio compilation series bringing some new (origins sound, manooz) and old faces (volta cab, julien sandre), but keeping the house vibe in different shades. up and coming origins sound (glasgow underground, lost) present a bassy pumping uk house tune whereas volta cab (kolour, hypercolour) goes back the the rave days and invites us to some hardcore heaven. the flipside starts with morris audio buddy julien sandre, who is still some kind of secret underground weapon, even if he already released on argys these days label or on tsuba. finishing off the ep is manooz (alive, extended play) with a great deep and raw house tune. this all is for you, seven daze a week!

this one is really raw dirty monotonous early techno beats with some claustrophobic noises, lots of old acid sounds from old analog gear, 303s filtered by hand, headcutting hi hats and an overall dark atmosphere. flashback to the early days of mr.finger, adonis etc

mental resonance is the alter ego of guido camino, a young producer from buenos aires, argentina. *divine blood ep* is his debut on reference, a 90s flavoured minimalistic techno with nice old school detroit-style patterns.

adult only shape is back with an intriguing collaboration, between the mysterious frenchie monsieur georget and young parisian talent le loup. a combination of the old skool with the new skool, the sounds are just that. each take a pounding bass and a solid minimal-tech stance and layer their character on top. a1 is scattered with futuristic bleeps and computerised murmurs, interspersed with reminiscing vocals, while a2 is the most raw in nature, with a tough techno feel until the smooth overtones set in and a feeling of euphoria takes over. but some may say b1 is say arguably the standout track, for its intoxicating vocal and irresistible underlying swing and groove.

the first musical scale on apiafo leans towards raw funk with a sound similar to the famous 70s bands, l orchestre poly rythmo de cotonou and el rego. funk, is the skeletal structure of this record, and provided the opportunity for peter to invite his uncle, roger damawuzan - the famous pioneer of the 70s soul scene – on two tracks. their collaboration on *pas contente* is a highlight on this 100% analog album. apiafo was entirely recorded, mixed and mastered with old tapes and vintage instruments.

otis is a slightly camp and some might say agressive cat from chicago. he has always liked the old acid house. he has only just found the means to put down his musical ideas, and this is his first offering.

one of the most amazing afro funk album ever! rare funk & avant- garde soul from a seven years old kid singer featuring best of french and cameroonian musicians, recorded in paris in 1977. the album contains two nicely dramatic tracks.

a1: delivers italian stallion steve murphy with a playful and funky riff based steady house groove with inviting vocals. this tune is first choice for producing high levels of joy on the dancefloor. sure floor burner! a2: well known detroit protagonist gari romalis treats us with old-school shuffling groove wrapped in street like dirtyness. its a no nonsense rhythm that wont allow you to stop moving your feet once your going. perfect for gathering critical mass on the floor. detroit vibe at its best! b1: berlin based alex agore pulls you into this smooth house deepness followed by lovely rhythmic play and rich vocals. sunday afternoon or 3am in the club, it doesnt matter. this is crafted for every occasion or opportunity to relax and enjoy the warmth of house music. b2: goes to young talent from serbia, manjane. its a fusion of house styles under one tune with catchy effect driven vocals. although not defined by one style this track delivers a quality drive to the floor with great combination of subtle rhodes and nice developing breaks

for release number four soul intent comes up with something truly special. the fruit club is a big nod back to the famous fruit club event that was held at the brunel rooms in swindon throughout the 90s. this is where soul intent first heard dnb as it should be via underground heros like doc scott, kemistry & storm, and dj lee. infact even the label artwork has been designed around their old flyers (big up to dj faydz & stephen reid for permission to use the fruit club logo).

henrik bengtsson from swedish helsingborg is the man behind this alias. other outfit is goz mongo alliance whith a sound from the uk era 79-81. with this soloproject there is only old drummmachines and crappy synth involved and some small lyrics too.. and.. this is brain-disco, mekano style!

12 releases strong already, a:rpia:r has been silent for the last 2 years, since petre inspirescu’s gradina onirica hit the shelves of your favourite record shop. it is now raresh’s turn to release something special and indeed he did. vivaltu is an old gem, a subtle uplifting track driven by a powerful resonator, perfect for that “special moment”. the male mumbling voices provide the track with that extra eclectic feel. this is in fact raresh’s only track on vivaltu ep, the rest are remixes. side b presents a minimal house interpretation remix by none other than chilean legend and friend, ricardo villalobos. the resonator is still here but in come some childish voices to make it all perfect. perfect for the dancefloor. side c brings forward another member of the a:rpia:r family, none other than contemporary wizard petre inspirescu. his take has a very cinematic approach, building and building for 4 minutes before the kick even starts. the rich percussive atmosphere is completed with a brilliant melody reminiscent of his classical experiments. this track is an absolute masterpiece ! aloe varu is the third chosen for this remix pack and indeed he was chosen wise. his stripped down remix spans for 13 minutes and completes the story of a:rpia:r 13.

our next big release at bad barbie, going out on digital and 12 inch, comes by the hand of aldo cadiz itself, but this time partnered with kareem cali. these two made a fantastic three track ep called monita ep. the first track monita presents a solid base created with a classic tech style and an extremely groovy bass line. full of small arrangements and a crazy vocal line, this tracks its perfect for any club dj. the second track bonita, is the one with the more old school vibe, from the bass line to the main acid synth, which goes evolving softly with a filter during the track to generate the needed tension. all this with a strong tech groove to follow the step of this solid ambience created by the acid synths. the last track moni, also has many techno and acid elements presents. we can perceive the techno soul mainly on the arrangement of the hi-hats and bass line, but the acid synth in triplet at the backend is what generates the crazy vibe and almost hypnotic feeling during the track, playing around with the volume of it. definitely a fantastic release to add to any collection.
