limited 12 inch on the tiny don pedros label from nigerian disco supremo bobby i.g featuring two of his best and most sought-after tracks on one slab of loud-pressed vinyl. originally out on the impossible-to-find *bomp* album in 1980 (i.g.s one and only release sadly), these cuts are top-class examples of early nigerian boogie, both heavy ass-shaking floorfillers boasting some phenomenal funky guitar work and ultra-groovy bass. first up is the awesome collectors favourite *disco power* while on the flip we have the equally desirable funk monster *funk ina ghetto*. totally brilliant - dont miss!

two sides from our favorite early 80s lover lew kirton. its the first time the sexy soul mans two track have been 45! both solid tried and tested lp tracks, but who wants to spin lps. 15 years of doing a club every week and you end up with some secret weapons, *something special* was always a big tempo change record. everyone is tired from dancing for two hours to fast disco, modern and deepfunk and without warning you just drop this badboy in take it down a notch and let the dry riding commence, solid. on the flip is lews straight up jack of gloria gaynors *i will survive*, pure shameless anthemic dancefloor disco smasher that i have championed for years, that catchy guitar line over lews big voice never tires.

iib s latest release is an ep from the clandestino crew. first track is a slo mo cosmic melodic acid dub. a beautiful early evening trip. this is remixed by the beat broker who adds a few sublime uplifting west coast sprinkles. the first track on the b side is a solid disco tinged house beauty with synth stabs subtle acid undertones claps and a great sample. the final track is beyond the sun. a mellow eastern tinged sundowner featuring another great sample. this ep really captures the original iib sound and philosophy. a real gem.

federsen returns to fifth interval for another sublime instalment of dance floor friendly dub-techno. dewpoint is an altogether tighter affair when compared to the label s first release, point reyes. the drums are taut and razor-sharp, propelling the listener effortlessly through a dense fog of ferric clouds, swelling to fill the outer-reaches of the echo chamber. a highly polished metallic production style that can be compared to some of andy stott s early and classic works. tomas rubek remixes dewpoint for the b-side, remaining faithful to the original track s structure but viewing it through a tinted lens. dewpoint s chords become iridescent, kick drums fall into a straighter pattern and are backed by further dusty percussion, shifting the original into spheres inhabited by the likes of rod modell and fluxion.

before dj gregory was point g. point g is an alias used by the french produced to explore a gritty, raw sound steeped in abstract vibes but with a very basic approach, which makes it all the more captivating making a strong impact on the underground scene in the 90s, point g gained much respect amongst his peers with timeless releases like the raw ep, on the raw again ep…. originals vinyl copies of many of point gs early tracks are notoriously hard to find, giving this comeback even more kudos.

bomb! after the release of 2000 and one s rambik ep on intacto records this summer, pitcher plants ep continues to success the journey of detroit techno. early plant explorers were convinced that the most mysterious pray-tapping pitcher plants came from mars because they are so out-of-this-world, as is the ode to this ep.

alex font repeats in oblack- only like the best and he does it showing the most acidic and clubby version of that the real house that permeates their sound from start to finish. this acid flow is the fifteenth reference of the pastorial label commanded by snna and nacho arauz- from ibiza the valencian alex font presents us with an original passage of festive house, trotter and no-friend of the depressions where the legendary sound of the roland tb-303 is the pacesetter, disguises the soul and adds foundation to the track. and, since it breaks the acidic sound through antonomasia, this acid flow, shows his playful and fun side. this is a bright and optimistic theme, designed and checked to make us dance with a smile on our face, no doubt. a bare-chested tribute to those early 90s when electronics was all about joy and effervescence.

born in the distinctively puerto rican neighborhood of lincoln park chicago, ricardo was named after legendary salsa singer ricardo ray. after major puerto rican displacement (urban renewal) ricardos parents settled in the noble square section of west town for many years. his music reflects a traditional house culture that goes beyond just sound or legendary stories. while his industry peers recite fond memories of the music box, the bismark and other musical institutions – ricardo sat in front of a big pioneer radio listening & recording mixes from chicago radio stations wrrg, wbmx am/fm & wgci which included a hefty dose of early house music, italian imports and electro. but, it was the new sound of chicago house that made a profound impact on his soul.

strut return to the archives of seminal chicago house label dance mania in january 2015 for dance mania: ghetto madness. the follow-up to strut’s acclaimed dance mania label retrospective hardcore traxx from early 2014, this new instalment places the spotlight on the raw, stripped back, hyper bpms of ghetto house and the rise of the movements fresh generation of stars during the mid90s including dj deeon, dj funk, jammin gerald and dj milton. the 180 gram double vinyl comes in gatefold sleeve, including cd.

a truly essential piece of early detroit techno history here, octave ones original white label octivation ep from 1990 has long been a sought after and coveted slab of wax. this 5 track journey charts the burden brothers mood from sinister, spacey, acidic techno jams (sonic fusion) to deeper, more melancholic mid-tempo cuts (nicolette) and along the way manages to usher in a new wave of detroit techno sounds.

the occasional (but always excellent) street edits series returns, this time with a trio of high-grade scalpel works from chicago re-edit hero rahaan. as usual, the source material is dusty and obscure, and the reworks revelatory. -city of disco- is in many ways typical of rahaan s work, with carefully cuts and loops being used to create a thumping, house style groove (admittedly one that pays due reverence to the source material). there s more of a celebratory, soulful feel about the impeccable -strung out-, which turns a little-known disco-soul gem into a huggable dancefloor classic. best of all, though, is -brighten you up-, which sits somewhere between later electrofunk and early house, a proto-proto gem, perhaps. either way, it s a killer.

having previously kept their re-edit series in-house, leeds-based crate-diggers joe s bakery have invited moton (aka london veterans diesel and dave jarvis) to deliver the latest release. those who ve followed the moton records inc series (active since the 90s) will know what to expect: expert re-rubs of obscure material that get the right balance between dancefloor chops and home listening selections. look out for the odd shuffle and electric piano solos of -moody blues-, the percussive early 80s, synth-heavy live disco brilliance of -zoo- (yes, it s definitely balearic) and the hazy, midtempo disco-funk of -bumps-. it s getting progressively hard to find worthwhile re-edit 12- singles, but this one s a genuine killer

compuphonic aka maxim firket is a multifaceted producer and dj from liege, belgium, who was raised on a well-balanced diet of classical music, early electronics and industrial variants from kraftwerk to front 242, and the revolutionary soundwave that swept over from detroit, michigan. hence, maxim did not only grow up to become a skillful violoncellist, but also a producer with a unique approach, blending his various sources of inspiration into one intelligent mix of old-school electro, house and minimal stylings.

de:tuned was founded in 2009 by ruben boons and bert hermans. the pair first organised a series of old school techno parties in antwerp (belgium) before launching the record label in 2012. to celebrate 5 years de:tuned they now turn out a very special 5lp album featuring 21 tracks from some of the most respected names in the game. the album has its roots firmly in early/mid 90s techno and electronica, a style which de:tuned has always presented, and spans some 20 years of electronic music.

with his voyage direct label, tom trago has always championed dutch talent – djs and producers from the tightknit local scene whose music moves and inspires him in equal measure. he’s at it again on this 19th release, handing a debut 12inch to fastrising, amsterdambased dj/producer elias mazian. the 25 yearold is a muchloved figure on the amsterdam scene, and has gained a reputation as one of the citys true underground heroes. his dj sets are rooted in contemporary deep house and techno, but also take inspiration from 80s electro, stevie wonder, pfunk, disco, and the surging, snareheavy pulse of early chicago ghettohouse

what better way to follow up andy meechams (chicken lips / emperor machine) huge gino fontaine originals than a duo of remixes from balearic chieftains pete herbert & stratus as one half of reverso 68 alongside phil mison, and in his own right pete has been behind a ton of mesmerising sunrise and sunset workouts, and he’s more than delivered here - crisp and club ready percussion, those stark punk-funkin’ guitars and his trademark synth work all conspire to cook up a storm on the floor martin jenkins and mat anthonys stratus outfit (remember their superb *spring tide ep* on aficionado last year ?) take a pop at the sublime konkondo on the flip and what a masterpiece it is ! a ten minute, utterly absorbing and expertly evolving piece, which flips the darker elements of the original into a mesmerising, cinematic, early 90s style balearic epic.

liiebermann is a japanese duo, ko-ta, previously ran stratosphere label in kushiro hokkaido, and his label mate, kiyokazu hamawaki. after releasing from labels like 31337 rcords/kina music/numbolic/early dub/multivitamins, they decided to set up a vinyl only label gabriiela. springy percussion and cutup samples with unique groove in lower frequency makes 3 tracks purely original. 3 tracks of floor bomb!

bristols facta and hodge are a pair of rising young producers who, more than most, have absorbed the influence of tempas early music and wielded it to create something defiantly their own. hodge has been on a powerful run of form over the last two years, with a string of acclaimed 12 inches for livity sound, idle hands and hotline striking a unique balance between brutalist sub-bass muscle and vortex-like whirls of voice and percussion. factas releases for soundman chronicles and idle hands have been equally striking - dark, hypnotic and dread-filled rollers for the moodiest of dancefloors. you can hear both producers approaches vying for attention on this collaborative 12 inch, and the resulting tension turns the atmosphere electric.

what more can be said about carl cox the term legend is thrown about way too easily in electronic music, but there is no question about the status of dance music historys most recognisable global figure. a musical ambassador, a veteran of acid house, a champion of techno and a professional dj since his early teens. carl has been playing music, breaking tunes and celebrating life and never losing sight of his passions for over 30 years.

as 2014 comes to an end, the london based duo is closing the year with yet another split ep. on the a-side we have vimmes, a low-slung groove with percussive textures that expand gradually and steadily, evolving along shadowy soundscapes and intricate rhythms. its a fine example of holdie gawns personal style, stripped back grooves moving along melodic tones and sound design. micawber on the other side offers a shuffled up house track under the name de jure. syncopated synth lines, lush pads and melodic textures make this an warm, lush early morning electronic affair.

for a long time, vidal benjamin has been getting up early at the weekends. whether alone or in company, he digs his hands into various crates at record fairs, flea markets or in empty attics, to uncover records that have long been forgotten, ignored or even despised. among the small circle of parisian diggers, his reputation precedes him: it is he who finds and it is he who shares. it is not unusual that in his wake, one finds a certain record long lost, left behind as a special gift from vidal. he likes to share so that others may discover. and it is for that same reason that he regularly sleeps late, playing records in clubs at night, where he follows a similar path: altruistic, educational and festive. it’s no surprise, then, that his first compilation goes by the fitting title of disco sympathie.

re-issue of an italo-disco single by i.m.s. from 1984., that had a huge influence on the early chicago house scene, pet shop boys and new order.

it has been local talk bosses mad mats & toolis secret weapon during their dj sets over the past months and have destroyed clubs from london to berlin. with a super catchy chord theme, bumpy 4/4 beats and a slight uk feel this is as bad as it gets. it is just one of those tunes you immediately recognise and can relate with. together with a deep journey house remix from ad bourke and a fierce uk inspired bass/house mix from colognes hade we dare to say that this is one the finest releases on local talk so far. original bristol cat crackazat (now residing in uppsala, sweden) got a sound that fuses jazz theories, electronic 4/4s with a deep uk underground mentality. think underground resistance meets floating points and your almost there. somewhere else is the second single from crackazat on local talk and in early 2015 he will drop his debut album crescendo on local talk.
