black truffle is honored to present a new issue of annea lockwoodÆs classic 1970 tape piece tiger balm, unavailable on vinyl for over thirty years, accompanied by two exquisite unreleased works for percussion and voice. created while lockwood was living in the uk, the side-long tiger balm is a singular work within the cannon of tape music. inspired by research into the ritual function of music, the piece explores the possibility of evoking ancient communal memories through sound. breaking entirely with the dynamic language of the musique concrÞte tradition, lockwood uses a select palette of mainly unprocessed sonic elements chosen for their mysterious and erotic characteristics (a purring cat, a heartbeat, gongs, slowed down jaw harp, a tiger, a womanÆs breath, a plane passing overhead), presenting at most two sounds at once. as one sound flows organically into the next, their shared characteristics are highlighted, opening a space of dream logic and mysterious associations between nature and culture, the ancient and the modern. the b-side presents two pieces for percussion recorded here for the first time. amazonia dreaming (1987), performed by dominic donato, uses unaccompanied snare drum and voice to evoke the nocturnal soundscape of the amazon rainforest. unorthodox techniques and materials (marbles, chopsticks, a plastic jar lid) transform the snare into a resonant field of sensual textures.

gatefold double coloured vinyl lp version. this is the debut album by producer rodden von ast, the man from mecklenburg vorpommern. von ast isn t new to the business. his last two releases and his own imprint sumpfsee records putting him right into the spotlight. on the altkamp album the busy producer finds time to entertain you with eight stellar tracks on the vinyl version, which come across as well-structured little stories, drowning the dancefloor. all in all sounds that are unmistakably in the family of or are related to the enchanted moments we know from kalkbrenner but as well as techno moments. the opener „altkamp- is a restlessly inventive bricolage of unconventional sounds and textures. -bettfett- is a masterclass in crisp, high-definition techno, as christal synths, a solid kick, and an insistent bass stab form a deeply hypnotic groove. -gedeih and verderb- with mate herr maarec draws on spacious arrangements of dub techno elements, burnished with snickering percussive repetition and scything synths. „unser klonet - is a spacey burner that builds into an indisputable festival-rocker, complete with punchy claps, descending bass-line.

almost 10 years have passed since onra arrived with the charmingly eccentric chinoiseries lp. 32 hip-hop beats formed the sample-based project - dusty chinese vinyl hissing and crackling throughout – resulting in an intriguing and spontaneous mix of the producers interest in exploring a newly-discovered style of music with his love for classic hip-hop production.
using the style of analogue mpc production combined with the somewhat restrictive record sampling of strictly chinese music records, he has been able to be creative over three volumes, an amount of 100 instrumentals, despite the challenge of finding more obviously standout samples in chinese music.
the chinoiseries projects are the type of albums that invites the listener to play it from beginning to end, in order to really enjoy the trip and appreciate the variety of rhythms and textures spread over those 32 short instrumentals. in that way, “pt.3” is no different to its predecessors, but the originality of the samples, the curious harmonies and the odd-drum patterns still makes the album sounds as fresh as the first one.
onra finishes this epic trilogy with class as a result of extended record digging across the far east and the producer s own development over the preceding 10 years.
as a producer who has released records inspired by 80’s funk, 90’s hip-hop and r’n’b, electronic and even a spiritual jazz project, “pt. 3” brings this stylised set to a close.

the title track immediately delves into familiar and focused textures backed by woozy synths, dancing between glitzy euphonious melodies.
the drums and rhythm section channel the energy of prior dance classics but still feel eager and original in their deployment.
on the flip side, plz xx diverts expectations by jumping between several frenetic moods, all whilst maintaining an energetic frivolity found throughout the record as a whole.

portable sunsets is one of the monikers of peter segerstrom: a producer based in brooklyn, us. he previously released his full-length album bless on atomnation, an lp as surfing on 1080p and another portable sunsets lp on deadelus magical property label. order is the follow up of these records and is a dreamy, somewhat lo-fi experimental techno lp. combined with an ancient ambient undertone, ‘order’ is not loosing its club ready vibe. this record floats somewhere between laid-back warehouse techno and the electronica genre - very much representing a unique style: peter often uses his own voice in his productions, programmed through self-created synths in max/msp. vocals have become textures and are used as a synth, pad or soundscape. the combination of genres makes order a perfect record to dream away on at home, as well as to dance to in clubs.
