hello sailor recordings third release features esa brazilian remakes london based south african esa mervin granger is part of a unique breed of talent emerging on the electronic music scene. drawing influences from his roots but firmly looking towards the future, esa embodies a sound without limitations. esa has developed a distinct yet and expansive musical identity. a regular at many of the best underground parties, venues and festivals across the uk and europe, esa has also carved out a niche curating electronic music-focused educational programmes in cuba, east africa and south africa which forms part of the highlife world series project. continuing to further his knowledge and share his skills inspiring enthusiastic dj s and producers around the world.

it’s been a while since planet rhythm released an entire lp project. who else to thread into album territories than ukranian planet rhythm stalwart yan cook. after releasing various efforts through the rotterdam based imprint over the last few years, yan cook comes up with a double lp consisting of 2 discs with 2 tracks on each side. whilst shifting between various sides of the yan cook identity the xx lp proves to be an effective and bulding package over mechanic techno sounds with strong builds and exciting taints of fx.

“prÉvision #02” is the second compilation and third vinyl of forecast label, french record label originated in 2012. it gathers six house, electronica and techno tracks in varied styles for various artists. the original idea was to make artists exchanges ideas together to create tracks that would exactly define each one’s identity. while cheaper shepherd’s “weasels” show again their shiny and catchy vintage house, romain play explores several music genders through a train trip across jazz, psychedelic rock and house. the new comer roman s releases his first track ever, showing his talent for groove and minimal house. on the b-side, d°c, breilitz and sir squi explore three kinds of techno. first track of this side, “erebus” shows a kompakt-like new wave but club-oriented techno. “raw interference” could without any doubt be played at berghain. last track, “(crashed)” is on the psychedelic slope of techno. it uses a sitar, to ends the compilation on a shinier note.

madrid based artist irazu has a couple of tricks up his sleeve. apart from creating outlandish rhythms that are hard to pin down to one specific box in the spectrum of electronic music, irazu also proves to have a strong visual and intellectual identity.

following hefty releases for karlovak and bass culture in 2015, ben sims continues to bring his ron bacardi alias heat with along with a remix from borrowed identity.

here comes the second remix package from alles andrs on resopal with the feel it rmx ep part 2 which includes two remixes from reboot and president bongo. -reboot- plays with glitches, sparks and tight wooden percussion patterns, switching its identity to take on a sultry persona with a warm and melodic mainline. -icelands icon president bongo warps -feel it- into a dance killer, enhancing the percussive flow of the original and integrating a rapid bass line. early plays by luciano, reboot, carl craig, president bongo amongst others.

ark & pit spector continue their inspired journey with an extended ep full of groovy jams and absorbing rhythms for hold youth. the frenchmen have formed a potent alliance with a series of expertly-crafted, high-quality releases dropping over the last couple of years. on this new ep they go deeper into their sound explorations with five original works and a remix from their parisian buddy and hold youth member, le loup. first up, we go into bumping jazzy territory with ‘chauffage central’, a mesmerising cut with swirling pads, soulful vocal clips and a jaunty b-line. straight up after that, hold youth rudeboy le loup gives ‘chauffage central’ a funky little rework, throwing live sounding percussion, nubian vocal clips, trumpet parps and a pumping bassline into the mix which gives a totally different identity. the final track on side a, is a cheeky teaser called ‘petite ondée’. rolling out for just under two minutes the track has a muffled, jazz-esque feel to it with a warm rolling bassline and bright, sparkling piano keys. on the flip we kick off with ‘air conditionelle’, a lush, retro feeling with those oh-so-familiar heavy-hitting eighties snare licks. the bassline takes you to a new york city street and the whole atmosphere is that of an old school nyc neighbourhood, while a spoken-word sample adds a human touch just before the track comes to an end. ‘sub tropical’ goes a little leftfield with an unusual combination of sounds in tandem with a pulsating low end, occasional sax licks and punchy percussion to give it plenty of energy. ‘averse et contre tous’ closes out the ep with a slothish ride into the sunset – ark and pit spector show their experimental side presenting an odd union between blues samples, gruff electronic sounds and piano keys. another triumphant effort from ark and pit spector, in fact, some of the finest work to date. make sure you check it out!

embracing disco, techno and house music in all its declinations, what ever not introduces now british artist reformed society, project started by house producer harsh puri as a consequence of djing and collecting records since 1998, debuting with a four track old school house ep, optimistic chaos coherently fitting with the italian imprint philosophy. ‘hope’ has that solar, yet dusty groove folding distorted rhythmics and joyful pads around an insistent lead dubby pattern and shimmering synths. ‘optimistic chaos’ is again smooth but lightly gloomy, until a pause intoxicates one’s body and mind filling them with inebriating ambients. ‘incognito’ delivers a deep driving atmosphere here, featuring dogged, crisp drums together with minimalist, yet momentary cosmic motives. for the closing cut ‘detracid’, the artist cooks up a brew of acid lines with the usual charming synths and vivid hats, building a light sense of tension fired up by the warm, heady sound scapes. each track is similar to the last, stiffening the musical timbre of the label, confirming the producer’s strong artistic identity as a consequence.

bad taste recordings hit 2016 in severe kinetic style with a fresh pair of tracks launching the identity of malux, the new neurofunk-focussed moniker of established bass producer skope (inspected). with turbine and fonk the agenda is clear – energetic, funk-fuelled dnb driven by detailed low-frequency design and a boisterous rave vibe.
turbine carries with it a stripped aesthetic, with a percussive pattern driven by the snare and wonky plucked synth work. this is heads-down, bassface material for ravers to get into step to.
fonk on the flip hits a cheeky upbeat tone, switching slickly between bass textures punctuated by staccato sonic fragments.
with support from scene titans such as andy c, the upbeats and radio play from friction on bbc r1 and crissy criss on kiss fm, malux has immediately caught the attention of those who know. bad taste hits the nail on the head again, introducing another name with a big destiny into the halls of dnb.

two years after releasing his first ep, x_1 pursues his exploration of the connections between electronic codes and sounds related to space, stories or emotions. this disc is teinted with electroacoustic influences and its three tracks, -le glitch-, -happy hifi- & -tangente a l’ouest- each have their own identity. they are all indeed dedicated to both dancing and meditating. this disc aims to generate proper listening moments and emotions wether you’re in a club, at home, in the street, alone or with some friends. three colored wanderings that came out of this young producer’s mind.

with the release of this set of remixes figure head len faki reveals previously unseen shades of both the source material and his own musical identity. produced over the course of last year and originally never intended to come out, the hidden objects were to remain just that – hidden from anyone but faki himself who was privately developing a different side of his in the studio.

dripping out of the pores of tokyo high-rises, aquarium deepspace serves up his debut vinyl release and the second instalment on natural sciences. drawing on a palette of 90 s detroit house music and the electronic tropes of his home town of japan, midnight at the tokyo central is the unspoken soundtrack for the lost souls of the metropolis, recounting the ecstasy of smoke-filled dance-floors, the touch of dry ice melting through a fur coat, and travelling through neon at 6am. narrated by two separate protagonists under one identity, deepspace side explores muscular acid trax, aquatic pads and throbbing deep house jams for the floor, while aquarium on the flip is coated in hazy electronics and dopamine drained murk, drawing on field recordings taken at tokyo s central train station (rainy night in shibuya) through to lush subterranean jams laced in serotonin nostalgia.

berlin-based producer and dj mike wall is back for his next release on his own imprint wall music. already well-known in his hometown for the legendary walls events at suicide circus berlin, mike had a massive year 2015. for his return to wall music, mike delivers two original tracks with a sense of depth and dark chord sounds. his newest ep is called inkognito / if only i could. listen to the secrecy of the true name or identity of this tracksthe ep comes with two massive remixes by keith carnal & wall music artist michael schwarz

super mama djombo orchestra, guinee-bissau, west africa. all songs recorded in lisbon, 1980 - re-mastered from the original reels. six archive recordings are now available on vinyl for the first time.. super mama djombo is one of west africas greatest roots orchestras and especially for the people of guiné-bissau. the band marked a new national identity and reinvented portuguese creole as a language of national unity.

marcel vogel has decided to celebrate the first five years of his edit-heavy lumberjacks in hell imprint in the only way he knows how: by putting together a sumptuous double pack stuffed with fresh new material. in keeping with the way the label has developed in recent times, the eight tracks blend the boundaries between original productions, illicit remixes and straight re edits. there s a celebratory, life affirming feel throughout, from the rubbery bass, d-train synths and rolling house grooves of giovanni damicos the break down, to the bluesy deep house brilliance of borrowed identitys queens bridge. highlights are plentiful elsewhere, too, from the hustlin electrofunk meets disco of vogel s own come on, to the killer synth solos and fuzzy bits of tim jules thrilling slap beat.

young marco delivers a compilation of his own remixes to inaugurate his new label, safe trip. featured are his versions of tracks by francis bebey, hnny, michael ozone, the recently released vangelis katsoulis remix and a couple of as yet unreleased remixes of jacco gardner and zulu pearls. few have developed as distinctive an identity as quickly as young marco. in two years, the dutch vinyl obsessive has shot from relative obscurity to global notoriety, building his name through brilliant, vastly wide reaching dj sets and optimistic, rhythm-obsessed, simplistic but-detailed production

finally after 3 years season 1 comes to an end. the birth of concept that has led to the evolution of who we are today. we’ve had the pleasure of working with some incredibly talented artists that have been an inspiration to us helping us shape and form a part of our identity. that is because several reasons is not just about the music, it is about the experience, the exploration, the collaboration, the up times and the down times, the good times and the better times, for the journey… closing off the first season made no other sense than to seal it with a special collaboration from the owners of several reasons, dubit & mynude. an ep that that truly provokes and challenges boundaries of the stereotypical label of “music”. covering all aspects of ambient, atmospheric and experimental types of sounds, the release really an experiment of psychoacoustics.

the forward-thinking nature of the music in this collection sums up the ethos of chronicle as a whole. each artist has a distinct identity but they all strive to push techno into unexplored realms, placing the emphasis on atmosphere and psychological impact. in such an approach can the most affecting sounds be found, and there will surely be few listeners left unmarked by this record. you have been warned.

wavereform continues to shape out its identity as a guiding light for cutting edge techno coming from less explored corners of europe. after jüras lietus seismic starp 12inch, the berlin-based label returns with a powerful single from finnish newcomer laiva. hailing from the eastern town of kuhmo, laiva was inspired to start producing his own music after finlands leading alternative radio station mafia ceased broadcasting in 2003. after spending years refining his craft, wavereform proudly presents the first evidence of this thrilling new entity on the scandinavian electronic music scene.

celebrating all that s ear-piercing and techno, p.e.a.r.l. surges through with an emanating soundscape of near, far and leftfield embodiment of energy. following on from the well received ground fault interrupt, p.e.a.r.l. brings his spanish stamina and berlin influence to the table in biblical amounts. abrasive and dancefloor-focused -desolation- is no stranger to the harder sounds of percussion. with a subtle ghost, and ever tense, this track rides through red traffic lights, and begins at the end of your comfort zone, techno at its best. evoking a visceral reaction, -in space- exerts its crude, unearthly series of paranormal techno sound from the get go. a long drawn tool of the trade, comprising of little more than drone and percussion, this gives way to be adapted into any mix in the right hands. -flame on earth- doffs in salutation to the afterparty. with a constant identity of beep and bleeps - continually growing from somewhere from within itself - this track leaves a trail where no path lies. cascading between dark and light, this is a release of effectual techno worthy of any record bag, regardless of your sub-genre preference - a real weapon of profession

bazzerk is the multiform label project run by jess & crabbe and is released under equal bazzerk and mental groove moniker.lcindo joaquim, known as dj afro pupo, was born in 1992 in the terra nova district of luanda. although the influence of us deep house and south african house are obvious on angolan afro house, its direct affiliation with the kuduro, or most traditional kazukuta and semba give it its own unique identity

diffuse arc return to caustica waveform and deliver four tracks of sublime synth-heavy electro! this is a superb second release for the promising spanish label, that has already shown a very strong identity through its music and artworks.

white visitation, who debuted on blank sate 006, returns with a full ep that showcases his vast musical capability. the mexico city native doesn’t submit to the boundaries and limitations of genre to frame his musical identity. prepare for a barrage of brutalist percussion, heavy melancholy and exercises in elegance and elation.

originally released on richie hawtins minus label a decade ago, restore stands alone as houles very first long-player and helped to establish his penchant for the quirkier side of techno and his superlative production skills. spread across three 12inches & 11 tracks it encapsulated the dark, minimal, groove-driven sound purveyed by hawtin and the rest of the minus crew, while retaining a strong sense of houles unique character and identity. now its the perfect time to breath new life into an album that has stood the test of time, still utterly infectious and absorbing - a collection of music that captures an era of stripped back, yet captivating sounds. 10 years since its release, the album is getting the remix treatment and marc has called in some of the very best in techno talent to give restore a fresh makeover.

future child of paula temples noise manifesto, decon/recon puts strength and artivism into a new idea of scene. the brand new project is based on a new series of electronic dance music releases presenting a unique and libertarian approach to collaboration, production and dance floor action. it converges artists samples in an open archive which is reassembled in four different tracks by the artists themselves. this project wants to put identity into a crisis by giving a collective authoriality and by letting all hierarchies collapse into a collective resonance who dares to become.

as we move into a new year, again start the cogs of labels and artists around the world, this is certainly the case for disc over music as they bring us their first release of 2015. high off the back of exquisite releases in 2014 from luca lozano & mr. ho and nicson, disc over’s first installment of 2015 comes from label head tim green - a three track ep bursting with two classic tg productions and grooves which is then given another dimension with a remix from the talented german born producer borrowed identity. the ep kicks off with the aptly named ‘scar’ - a track which when heard, truly makes it mark. it sets the tone for the rest of the ep with it’s prominent bassline and haunting howls whilst dreamlike keys bounce and float above. track two, ‘we thought’ is taken down a gear but keeps all of the groove built from ‘scar’. it begins with a simple trademark tg bassline and is allied with light and free singular keys. the listener is then joined by vocals which along with the previous elements take you on a real trip. borrowed identity speeds things up right away with his remix of ‘we thought’. the track is morphed into a dancefloor groove with the comforting vocals darkened, cut and reworked on top of an unpredictable and fluctuating bassline. managing to keep the identity of tim’s original the track becomes something completely different and certainly makes you feel you want to take the trip

tikita is back for it 2nd release, after the timeless reissue of ko-ta, this time the label compiled a solid va four tracker, with contributions from the stratosphere records crew (ko-ta and kiyokazu hamawaki) who delivers two timeless voodoo cuts never been released. the label wanted to balance between the past and the modern hypnotic body & mind wich became the labels identity, iori and artefakt took it as a honest mission to deliver two mindblowing tracks to confirm this body & mind aspect.

the soul notes imprint has never restricted itself to just one sound. ever since it emerged in late 2011, the basque county based outfit has shown several sides of its identity and has developed into a diverse and well balanced home. one of the labels usual suspects is cologne native, adryiano. after reaping some havoc with his efforts on the snx series early last year, adryiano has been crafting his down south ep (ironically) somewhere in the north rhine-westphalian concrete jungle. the down south ep is buldging with deep sine basses, fine rhythmic synthwork and lavish but hefty beats. the title track showcases these exact things best. the essence of adryiano s latest effort is still somewhat hard to pin down. a lot of different moods are going on throughout the ep while the overall sounds maintains it s own glance. from the deep machinefunk on down south to the broken beats of feel what you do. all of these bits have a nice theme to them.

get physicals first delivery for 2015 is, yet again, an ep that strays a bit off the beaten track. for this last installment, gpm290, junge junge has called upon australian native kyle pearce to set some velvety vocals to a toned-down, bittersweet delight of a track. the ‚beautiful girl ep opens with its namesake creation, a thumb piano-laden tune decorated by some seriously smoky singing just waiting to transport you far away. its followed by a handful of distinct reworkings, by audiofly who take on a dub remix and spins the song on its head to give it a new psychedelic identity. meanwhile, blond:ish throws it into darker terrain only to have the ‚beautiful girl lifted up by junge junge once again thanks to a slightly different version that turns it into danceable am epic by way of some wisely-placed kicks and claps.

on the back of 2 well received releases on dirt crew & dam swindles heist recordings, dutch native nachtbraker drops a beauty on hudd traxx.

astropolis records keep on the spirit that has fashioned the identity of the oldest and finest electronic music event of france: a pleasure that thinks plural, no matter the trends, just to share a love for music. after highlighting young and promising producers with madben and oniris, rave spirit with the driver and electric rescue, astropolis records comes up early this year with a fourth ep released by two producers sharing the same passion for soulful dance music: laurent maldo and jules wells.

stories of prison sees timothy j fairplay returns to emotional response having helped shape the identity of the label in it s infancy with the release of somebody, somewhere back in 2012. a lot of music has come from both artist and label since then, with fairplay s reputation as a solo artist fully established thanks to releases on a myriad of labels. stories of prison is a mini lp rich in the musical intensity fairplay has instilled in all his music to date, yet there is a daring sense of diversity at play too. from the effervescent dubbed out house toughness of opening track -the quay-, fairplay veers into subaquatic breakbeat, deep synth love from outer space chuggers, and other late night sonic treats

docile recordings is an independent artist label that chooses to follow its own identity. docile works to describe the beauty of our existence and depths of our depravity. these tracks represent a struggle to preserve a time and place into the grooves of the only medium that can accurately display our craft. docile is vision kept alive by good will and loyal service. docile recordings number twenty five starts with a soulful bop stumbling around nonsense words that form rhythm in an upbeat minimal jam. track two spirits a moving melody through random digitals and walls of harmonic hypnotics. track three has a childlike appeal with its cheap keyboard and boisterous synth knocking an easy melody through moments of naive transcendence. track four lumbers with a simple sterile funk thats pulled along by a masochistic chant. the names of these tracks are listed below.

the first release of düsseldorf-based baka gaijin is here: 001 - -life s a beach- by j. lewinson. evolved from art exhibitions an artistic event with musical guests like gerd janson, italojohnson, bicep, ata, tom trago, tama sumo, borrowed identity - the label wants to prove that a diversity can be brought into this genre, when being combined in the right way. this is what this release tries to show, too, j. lewinson one of the residents of baka gaijin proves in his debut a fine feeling for a nice combination of genres, sounds and influences.

there is definitely something mysterious about hiss:1292, and unlike a number of other techno projects, it is not the identity of the two producers at stake here

ltd repress, whoever knows of toi toi musik will know they have become synonymous with underground quality and for keeping things close and personal for their events and agency. well, with their new label its no different they stay very true to their identity (a good mix of english and german) and their quality. the 1st ep is produced by the legendary mr g. inspired after playing live at one of their events he wrote the track toi toi, which was later released on djulzs bassculture label. as a consequence, his relationship with the couple is so personal he nurtured them to open their own label and offered them 3 tracks for tt01 called much love ep. the 4th track is a remix by hello? repeat co-owner daze maxim, who has been a guest resident for the party for nearly its entire existence.
