british artist gazelle twin presents her new audio visual performance show for two vocalists, kingdom come . three tracks from the av show, created in collaboration with video directors chris turner and tash tung, are now available on limited edition vinyl via the vinyl factory. artwork by jonathan barnbrook. the conceptual performance for two vocalists is staged in six chapters, incorporating electronics, film, and the brand new soundtrack from gazelle twin, created from samples and live vocal manipulation. with the piece set on treadmills against a manic, illusory landscape, kingdom come places heightening physical demands on the performers, resulting in an exhausting, otherworldly climax. taking its title from j. g ballard’s final novel, kingdom come will play with notions of feralness, displacement and the uncanny in the contemporary british, urban landscape. the artwork for the ep has been designed by jonathan barnbrook whom has used the track and a.v video for metro as his inspiration. jonathan recently featured in the new design museum exhibition, designs of the year , with jonathan s design for david bowie s blackstar album.

the third record on inversions is a collaborative release with the norwegian label drid machine. golden oriole, hailing from stavanger, comprise of thore warland and kristoffer riis, esrtwhile members of staer + tralten eller utpult. pr is currently underway courtesy of berlin s dense promotion. the tracks have received a lot of radio play, for example the approaching of the disco void has been played by the german radio station eldoradio. the record has so far received reviews from germanys nonpop and african paper, the italian music map, chain d.l.k. and rockerilla magazines, and frances hartzine.

creme de hassan is a collaborative effort and project of paul labrecque (head of wantastiquet, sunburned hand of the man) and ghazi barakat (pharoah chromium. this is the second release for inversions, and the first full length album. pr is currently underway courtesy of the berlin-based dense promotion. so far the record has been played on the digital radio stations bytefm, eldoradio and ondefurlane. it has been played on the independent music podcast, and reviewed in the online magazine rockerilla.

solo project of vanishing twin (soundway) member. the song cucumuber sword feat. vocals by taishi nagasaka (fat white family) man from uranus has been making music inspired by the freakier edges of 60s and 70s library music and jazz for almost 2 decades, and like his predecessors - sun ra, space lady - he s never really fitted in, feeling more comfortable exploring cosmic realms than than with his feet firmly on his own planet. a prolific composer and home recordist, he has garnered a reputation for eccentric live shows, each presenting an entirely new repertoire. alien flowers, in a limited edition of 300, is one of few recordings capturing the spirit of an artist who is unwittingly on his way to attainting cult status. alien flowers has been played on nts, the wire s adventures in sound and music and the independent music podcast. support from the sunday experience, tom furse (the horrors), jonny trunk, doug shipton (finders keepers), emily bick (the wire) and anthony chalmers (baba yaga s hut).

though quality techno is regularly associated with the colder climates of berlin and detroit, the recent developments happening on the iberian peninsula have been hard to ignore. one of the region’s more interesting and consistent producers in this decade has been maceo plex, owner of the ellum audio label. armed with an encyclopedic knowledge of signature club sounds, and with an ability to investigate ‘darker’ side of modern life (a tendency that can be heard especially well on past plex-produced tracks like “conjure balearia”), plex has located the “goldilocks zone” between funk liberation and mechanical control. mastering this balancing act is a skill that separates the best producers from the legions of also-rans: it shines through in his back catalog and is back in full force for his new “tesseract” ep on ellum.

drummer amir bresler, born in 89, has been established as one of the most sought after israeli drummers, performing in israel and abroad at prominent local and world stage jazz festivals. starting his musical education at the age of 13, amir was first exposed to jazz music at the age of 15 upon his enrollment for the jazz program at the thelma-yellin national high school of the arts from which he graduated with honors. in 2010 amir joined the world renowned bass player, singer and composer avishai cohen, in concerts globally. avishai cohen is considered to be one of the most successful jazz artists in the world today. amir also performed alongside visiting musicians like sam yahel, joel fraham, mark turner, kirk lightsay, dwayne bruno. in addition, amir played with various israeli artists among these are, daniel zamir, omer klein, kutiman, nitai hershkovits, yotam silbrestein, amos hoffman, gilad abro, shai maestro, to name a few. this release is comprised of two tracks, originally composed and recorded for meinl cymbals drummers-videos-series. these tracks were later chosen by amir to be officially released. the first track, afro golden line, is inspired by 70s african high-life music (specially from ghana and nigeria) this is an odd-meter afro-beat track. featuring sefi zislings distinct trumpet melody and uzi ramirez s playful guitar. the second track, fish, is taken from lbts old mixtapes (originally with vocals by kerendun). it was re-recorded at amirs studio while bassist beno hendler & keyboardist nomok composed the third part of the track. both tracks were produced with rejoicer.

hiding slightly out of plain sight, australian producer mood j has been secretly crafting lush house jams for the last half decade bubbling just under the visible surface.
with the artist and asquith having briefly touched base at the beginning of the label’s journey, it took only a chance encounter in a ballarat bungalow in 2016 to reignite the flames of the artist-label relationship. jimmy surprisingly bumping into jon (mood j), as he was daze’s housemate in aus, whilst the lobster crew were on tour there.
mood j’s hard drive was stashed with archive of warm, sizzling, analogue studio tracks cooked to the nines, and so here we are just over 14 months later with the full epic debut in hand.

uk producer allen saei aka aubrey is no stranger to burek family, having already remixed information ghettos -inspiration- track for burek in 2013 and dj stingray s -communication system- track released on barba in 2015. as is to be expected from a guy whos been spending time in the studio for better part of the last three decades, on 13th barba release aubrey delivers a mature and consistent space-themed club 12- titled -space funk-.

mannella brings a rousing 12’’ ep, enclosing a sunil sharpe’s remix done with the forthright purpose of make you go ape. the original mix of “nibiru road” is a ever-changing techno story, told by a steady groove and such a badass kick-drum. a vitalizing ebb & flow of that rubbery synth and that melodic, a bit saturnine pad, that let you fly to the next planet. “fourth dimension” has been recorded from one of the live performance that mannella is doing under dahraxt alias. the hypnotic bubbly atmosphere created around that chopped pad, delivers this track to another dimension of delight, giving it a unexpected slant. sunil sharpe doesn’t need introduction, since his multiple releases on imprints such “trensmat”, “labrynth”, “mord”, “mindcut”, “inner surface”, “works the long night” , “black sun records” or his own “on the hoof” to name a few, have made him the well appreciated artist that today he’s. with this rework he confirms how much enthralling his charisma is. jts004 “it can only be attributable to human error.” cit.

over the years, phil mison has become the go-to selector for those looking for ibiza-themed compilations. none of his previous collections, though, have been quite as personal as out of the blue, a compilation inspired by his first spell behind the decks at the café del mar in 1993 – and the remarkable chain of events leading up to it.

respected house and techno artist dj deep returns to rekids with four murky productions this june. having been a staple in the parisian scene for over two decades, dj deep’s vast knowledge of electronic music is indisputable making his return to production in recent years all the more exciting, releasing on tresor, rekids, and his highly regarded label deeply rooted. ‘la grande brasserie’ features rolling kicks and a subtle rhythm as futuristic stabs ebb in and out of the mix, contrasting to the ‘2e service’ version which, whilst sharing a similar aesthetic, sounds bigger with its echoing synths and infectious claps. on the flip, both tracks are more dark and mellow in comparison, ‘paris heartbeat’ demonstrates twisted atmospherics and gloomy elements, whilst the intricate and mesmerising ‘chord kids’ is exemplary of dj deep’s ability to craft imaginative left-of-centre cuts.

riding high on the success of his epoch ep in february, john monkman makes his debut on crosstown rebels with harmonix, a celebration of the moog voyager, whilst techno heavyweight matrixxman supplies the remix. a true master of his craft, monkman has been creating music for over a decade and his passion and experience shine through his productions. harmonix was born after the uk producer and dj limited himself to just one synth, resulting in “interesting harmonics and a rawness that comes from syncing the oscillators, combined with an overload hack that gives the sound a little more juice”. sophisticated and formidable, harmonix 1 and harmonix 2 are orchestrated around the legendary moog voyager, with charged high hats that fracture the driving beat. us producer and dj matrixxman completes the ep with an imposing remix, verging on cinematic and brimming with atmosphere. continually building on his solid reputation, john monkman has previously collaborated with pete tong, and released on labels including, kompakt, get physical and noir.

the release opens with brian s proper dun one , a track which caused a twitter meltdown on alan s profile when he first started playing it at the tail end of 2016. loaded with sharp and pounding drums, this is an ethereal experience from start to finish and packs a real punch. it s a no holds barred, certified main room anthem. wait a second feat. mc r1bbz has been a staple of adam beyer s sets of late and has been getting a lot of air time on drumcode radio. this rave inspired track takes a raw, stripped back approach and delivers a real killer blow. alan sampled the vocals of mc r1bbz from an ltj bukem tape pack from the early 90s and the record tips its cap to early jungle raves around the m25. the release closes with trance, init? , a homage to alan s days first and foremost as a raver before he became a dj, with his non-purist attitude when it comes to electronic music shining through. the breakdown is sure to be a hands in the air moment at festivals all over the globe this summer.

time waits for no man, but venerable new york emcee and producer roc marci remains a rare exception to the rule. enchanting listeners with his dexterous lyricism, methodically soulful beats, and steely persona on releases like 2010 s critically-acclaimed marcberg, and his revered 2012 effort, reloaded, the pride of hempstead, long island emerges from the shadows after a three-year hiatus with the equally spellbinding rosebudd s revenge. this is the rapper s fourth studio album. aside from appearances on landmark releases, including de la soul s grammy-nominated and the anonymous nobody, and ka s days with dr. yen lo, roc marci s presence has been scarce, making rosebudd s revenge one of the more anticipated hip-hop releases of 2017.

next up on hell yeah is -the most balearic record i have ever released- according to label boss & it comes from japan s disco don max essa which features a four part track, themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely, on one side of vinyl, and two more on the flip. essa was born matthew bruce and the uk artist has now been releasing his blissed out beats on labels like feel music, electric minds, bear funk and is it balearic? recording for a decade. a prolific producer whose big hits like panorama suite/uptown vibration (is it balearic?) from 2010 have long been in the hell yeah boss s record bag, essa first approached the label with a bunch of tracks. a good correspondence alchemy ensued and together the artist and label decided to put out the most timeless 12inch possible. the exquisitely ambitious themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely is almost 12 minutes of serene ambient synth work that is like a soundtrack to a hot summer s day. heavenly chords sound just like a breathy female vocal and as they come and go, one finger piano tinkles add real emotional beauty and gentle twinkles shimmer in the distance. half way through lazy drums propel things along at a loveably lethargic pace and immediately place you on the beach. on the flip, saguaro is just as organic and beautiful, but has tumbling drums, wooden hits and soft claps as well as essa s magical synth work all bathing your soul in warm rays. b2 buran chime is perfectly horizontal and expansive, with tinkling triangles, angelic chords and scattered hits and harpsichord sounds all radiating effusively. this is timeless music that will calm busy minds now and forever.

it is making my blood boil. man, my jaw is hanging down listening to this stuff. read the email from butthole surfers man and producer, paul leary, when he heard the demo for what would become the debut philipp gorbachev & the naked man album. philipp gorbachev, the russian musician and dj, has been throwing killer parties and making some of the most innovative and exciting electronic music to come out of moscow in years. in 2014 he released his debut album silver album but when invited to perform a live boiler room he had something else in mind: a band scenario. the resulting concoction was not something locked into a 4/4 beat but rather a much more organic, groove-based sound with funk-strutting bass lines and live drums that rolled and flurried around the beats that jumped around leading the charge of the songs along with gorbachev’s damo suzuki-like vocals. taking that experiment into the studio, i dont give a snare is a wild ride that jumps genres, switches paces and alters tones frequently. the opening goodman exploding in intense rhythms and heavy, spiralling riffs that at times recall sabbath but the ever-shifting drums and gargling electronics give a wonky freshness that feels impossible to place into genre. whilst gorbachev cites a range of influences from beck to blind willie johnson as being core to him, the primary motivation is the live nature of the project itself. the main influence is the constant live experience we have as music players and performers. i want to get the most out of every party, every jam, and every dancefloor.

mei zhiyong had been instrumental in arranging dp’s tour of china. when mei zhiyong and dave phillips first met in beijing in july 2014, mei spoke not a word of english and dp not a word of chinese. and they we were to embark on an 18 city tour together. verbal communication between mei and dp was obviously difficult to say the least. it would often result in comical misunderstandings, total puzzlement or bewilderment, but it would also be a source of constant amusement with wonderful moments of instinctive trust. but then there is sound, the ultimate language… to return the favor, dp arranged a tour for mei and himself in october 2015 through 20 european cities. which is where the source material was recorded. dp then selected, dissected and transformed those recordings to work out something different, not just a collaboration, not just an amalgam of two styles, but something new for both. the compositions on this lp are the result.

danny scrilla returns to cosmic bridge records with a full-length project inspired by a desire to experiment outside of club conventions. while cosmic bridge has become known for forward-thinking, dubwise dancefloor mutations, label founder om unit has long been a fan of ambient and synthesizer music and ancient musical box offers a current take on the format, with 16 tracks of lush electronic compositions and meditations. fittingly, ancient musical box also marks the label s first cassette release.

ancient musical box was written over the past year as a direct reaction to danny s frustration with club music and the inevitable cynicism that can sometimes arise from prolonged contact with scenes, styles, and genres. i wanted to create something without any ulterior motives, he explains. as the tracks accumulated, the project took on a personal dimension and therapeutic qualities. intent on not over-thinking or polishing his ideas, danny created something that is less album and more a collection of emotions in their rawest form.

despite not being intended for the dancefloor, the music on ancient musical box still bears clear relations to danny s catalogue in its minimalist approach and use of melodic motifs. you can hear it in the hazy crescendo of night sweats , the wobbly funk of pangalactic gargleblaster , and the gentle keys of talisman . alongside these are more experimental moments, seemingly fragile in their simplicity but hiding a depth that reveals itself in context: the delicate loops of the title track, the vibrations of cryopod , the melancholy progressions of too little too late .

christian nielsen is a musician you would not immediately expect to see behind the speicher / kompakt extra crest. we love to surprise your ears and have enjoyed for some time his outsider approach to any genre he chooses to tackle. in particular with “hard times” – a prime-time melodic monster that bridges the right transitions. right when you need them to. berlin via belgium techno juggernaut locked groove has been on our radar for ages thanks to releases on hotflush and afterlife. “dawn” is one of those magical tunes that loop along but evolves with every listen. you hold us to it that we think it could be the best set opener 2017 will have to offer. intricate drums balance well with lush minimalistic melodies. our speicher series rapidly heads towards 100. where it goes, only we know - so savour the flavour while it lasts.

a quasar is the most luminous object in the known universe. it emits extreme amounts of visible light, but radiates like crazy on all other wavelengths, as well. here you can get as close to a particularly energetic quasar as no man has ever been before - during an adventurous space flight with felix eul and a bunch of other well-travelled sound cosmonauts. this voyage takes you to the final frontiers and beyond where you might even encounter strange aliens like the pianoctopus, known to sneak its tentacles into the ears of unsuspecting astronauts and to tickle their skullcaps from the inside. by the way, during our flight we might experience turbulences which you will experience as sudden, adrenaline-loaded outbursts of euphoria. they are caused by transdimensional discharges along the wings of our spaceship, a phenomenon known as interplay.

kaissa’s neurotic synth and wobbly bass combined with its forceful hi-hat open this ep in a stripped-down fashion, which makes it perfect to build tension and make transitions in any dirfections while mixing. mephisto continues on the path chosen with coherent and hypnotising synthesis, whilst keeping a funky kind of feel due to the very present kick and hi-hats, yet has a darker feel to it. deep blue on the b-side is a more four-to-the-flour track with a rousing synth and banging hi-hat, perfect for lifting up a crowd! cray blitz combines hypnotising bleep-like sounds and a mind-blowing string with droning low-end sounds. hypnotising like the other tracks - but with more drive - this ep is closed down. eric fetcher showcases his take on techno which fits perfectly between both modern day and oldschool techno!

nice price deal !!! mia grobelny (formerly known as m.i.a.) is back in full effect, now presenting part 2 of her survivor ep series on sub static, the label she s been running with falko brocksieper since 10 years.pull away is a prime example of mia grobelnys ability to create thrilling melodic sceneries, by means that are usually as simple as catchy. this one will move the dancefloor without having to curry favor with the current standard formulas. the funk is meanwhile flirting with oldschool house organs & percussion, yet again adding the extra spice of mias vocals and odd arrangement techniques. her affection towards the dark side though gets most obvious with wasteland, a deep & hypnotic mover, carried by a heavy rumbling bassline and blends of airy noise.

after the release of his beautifully put together album ‘shining the money ball’ via vancouver’s 1080p earlier last year (which will see a limited vinyl release on lo recordings later this year), as well as having music released through 100% silk, body-san joins the lo family with ‘pacific reasons ep’. having been a part of the new wave of house music to emerge over the past few years from the west coast of america and canada, body-san delivers music with a rich sense of depth, emotive precision and concise instrumentation throughout. brandon knocke (in his own apt description) offers three ‘coastal burners’ through ‘pacific reasons’, with the addition of the majestic interlude ‘liquid entrance’. ‘topaz chalice’ sets us off with the sunset, created through comforting yet strangely ominous chords and vocal melody lines. the track slowly evolves with small percussive flurries, beautiful chord and melody progressions and a smooth, sliding bass line. as pleasant and calming as ‘topaz chalice’ is, we still feel the full force of knocke’s thumping kick, making it as viable for the dance as it is for the cans...

(handmade sleeve / with download code) his debut vinyl is a recording of the longrunning piece stanzas or the law of the good neighbour. on each side, a pair of his friends reads simultaneously from a list of words. the list is an unfinished result of a word game andersen has been playing for several years. stanzas… seems to be a precise text-sound composition, a liquid and elegant piece of concrete poetry that reveals the individual qualities of the voices and their interpersonal relation.

releasing timeless music has always been one of the main aims of hivern. sometimes, this purpose asserts itself in curious manners. take margot s moderno , a track made in 2003, several years before the label was born. actually, when pepe and giaga produced the piece for a punk oriented art installation, margot didn t even exist as a project. 14 years later, moderno sounds as fresh and contemporary as it can be. it s one of those cuts that chases a very specific idea with a very unconstrained scheme, that knows exactly where it wants to go, but is not sure about how to get there.

anno stamm is the revered 4/4 branch name of berlin’s lars stoewe. as anstam he has been at the forefront of dark beat science, touring extensively with the likes of moderat and thom yorke’s atoms for peace and has appeared at festivals ranging from mutek and ctm to sonar and dimensions. ‘annothek’ is his second ep for macro. the three tracks build on the same set of sound sources and offer three different views at their glowing core. elastic basslines pierce through a bed of sweet and warm chords, surrounded by sizzling noise percussion. definitely on the more introspective side, the three cuts offer a special emotional depth while maintaining a bit more than just enough oomph to get the action going. late night and early morning are the possible settings. it’s a declaration of tender love that comes with a gentle push towards the closest darkroom.

the days are longer and lighter already and that can only mean one thing. summer is on its way… lee burridge and lost desert return with sunshine days in mind on their ‘loopyness’ ep. an apt description indeed for the title track. its infectious groove rolls forward, making you want to get up and wiggle your hips, this track has funk. a live guitar lifts the track halfway through, as stuttered vocals and string-like synth lines take you away to other worlds. over on the other side of the vinyl (or track two for digital fans) is ‘botanic’. another summer daze, groovy, light and airy with a slinky fat bassline and a warm breakdown. music to close your eyes and drift away to, this track has been a firm favourite on all day i dream dance floors since last summer. the ep comes to a close with ‘12cc’ featuring junior. a dubbier groove underpins the whole affair while glass-like melodies and laid back synths sway back and forth. it’s a patient groover that rewards those who take the ride.

politics of dancing records celebrate their 3rd anniversary with two vinyl only releases and a digital compilation of unreleased tracks from a pretty impressive line up of confirmed and up and coming producers. this is the second vinyl only part to be released, with another 4 tracks of serious cutting edge underground house music. io (mulen) , chris carrier, john jastszebski and tommy vicari jnr are on the line up and it s been highly supported by raresh, d julz, apollonia and djebali among others. io (mulen) opens up with a classy 8 minutes floor killer with a fat rolling bass and funky stabs, chris carrier goes deep space for good with jazzy drums and killer effects. on the b side, john jastszebski gives us a masterful deep dub techno lesson, and the prolific and versatile tommy vicari jnr closes with style, on a smooth and elegant deep house cut. another top notch 4 tracker from politics of dancing records.

his time the tramp crew serve you with a delicious double sider by wayne mcghie. -the love you save- was never released when recorded in 1972 and this long-lost track is now available here for the first time on 45! in 1972, wayne signed with record producer greg hambleton and, with former members of the hitchhikers, recorded a couple of tracks including -love is the answer- and -the love you save- at toronto sound studios. -love is the answer- was released later that year as a 45rpm single with the instrumental version on the flip, however -the love you save- was never relaesed. now, more than four decades later, the music of wayne mcghie has been re-discovered and his songs and musicianship are finally receiving the attention so long deserved.
