when delorean toured with teengirl fantasy last spring they told us about a song that had really blown them away. when they shared it with us we understood why. it was called >cheaters< and sounded like an instant classic. very different to the trademark psychedelic jams of the duo, the song was homage to classic chicago house from a modern perspective. built around layers of blissful synths and borrowing the vocals of first committees >cheaters never win<, it had that kind of energy that we sometimes miss in contemporary dance music. later that summer, john talabot visited new york and became aware that the track was going to be released by true panther sounds only as part of the album >7am<. something sparked inside us. we felt it was not fair that such an incredible track had to share its vinyls grooves with other songs so we thought it would be nice to dedicate a full maxi side to it.

the two hamburg based acts me succeeds and arp aubert are responsible for the first part of a ki records split series. on the ep named after the city in the north of germany the two acts combine their friendship and musical preferences to remix each other and contribute one very own track on each side. me succeeds, with their members mona steinwidder, sebastian kokus and lorin strohm, is a part of hamburgs labelcollective i saw music and their songs combine indie pop with electronic beats and chords. arp aubert consists of the two founding members of mirau records: stephan lorenz and marco niemerski. niemerski is better known for his productions as tensnake, but keeps arp aubert running as a matter of heart. the ki-split 1/3 (hamburg) is truly a family matter. because of their close friendship, me succeeds and arp aubert have created a very intense and emotional record. by remixing each other and combining their musical background this release turns out to be a very special one for ki and the acts themselves. the cover was created by me succeeds in well known ki tradition to make this piece of music something special and memorable.

new chain is the debut long-player from new york s small black. richly coloured and thickly layered, it is an absorbing, eclectic and obsessive body of work. the brooklyn group have succeeded in melting together locked and popped drum-shudder, gauzy spirographic synths and subtly contagious, half-remembered melody into ebullient bursts of evocative, subliminal and thoroughly modern pop. the songs are equally informed by the rhythmic bounce and stylistic swagger of more left-leaning contemporary radio rap and r n b as it is the submerged kaleidoscopic swirl of the early 4ad dream factory.
