2019 repress - first recorded in 1983 under the name visual, boyd jarvis s cut the music got me is one of the first true house records. a staple on the 80s new york club scene, the visionary instrumental dub was played everywhere from the paradise garage to zanzibar, dance-floors packing to it s mix of throbbing bass and wooshes of analogue synth magic. at ransom note we ve long been obsessed with the record, so when house hunting s aiden d araujo interviewed boyd - and found out that we could license it - we jumped at the chance. now, we present the music got you sounding bigger and better than ever before. remastered from boyd s original tapes by keith tenniswood at curved studios, the music got me is pressed on limited edition, heavyweight vinyl for clarity and bass pressure. complimenting the original release come 2 completely new mixes the first is a dubbed out masterpiece from edit-king nick the record alongside dan tyler of the idjut boys. between them they take the essence of jarvis s original and tease it out into a cavernous disco killer. next up comes bawrut man behind ransom notes debut release, the nu-acid anthem ciquita. bawrut does what he does best, throwing in latin percussion, layers of screwball 303 burbles, and a sense of joy, all whilst keeping boyd s original bass groove rolling.

the next release on our label is coming from berlin based nick beringer and we are very happy to welcome him on board. we have been following his work for quite a while now, so we were more than happy to receive this demo from him. the three tracks that we have chosen are a bit different from his usual productions and are working well in different situations or hours of a set.

it was nearly a year ago when these two graced with their hugely successful track ‘hope’ on our ‘watergate xv’ various artist compilation. matthias meyer and ryan davis come together again to deliver the stunning ‘love letters from sicily’ where infectious organic grooves pave the way for a flourishing well of emotions in the form of lush pads and shimmering sonics that unfold into a tale of epic cinematic proportions. from start to finish it’s a intimate piece of aural imagery, yet the duo always keep a keen percussive focus making it ideal for any dancefloor moment. to complement ‘love letters from sicily’, we’ve enlisted the one and only john digweed to rework meyer and davis’ original of ‘hope’, and with no surprise, he’s given it the master’s touch. staying true to the original, while at the same time reinventing the storyline and constructing tension by saving the powerful harmonies for a later climax, he’s crafted a revision that’s both driving and timeless.

repress: this is the sort of record that could only have been made by someone with a vast amount of experience. producer nick dunton has a decade s worth of releases behind him, and it shows. sketches of my life veritably skips between electronic sounds and styles. it s deeply rooted in techno and electronica and specifically the clean futurisms of detroit s belleville three but steadfastly refuses to stick to one particular groove. once offers heady dub techno enriched by cascading piano figures, lost love bittersweet electro. fallen and abandoned virtues, meanwhile, evoke memories of teenage nights lost in the otherworldly sounds of warps pioneering artificial intelligence compilations.

colin potter is a sound engineer and musician currently based in london. he has worked within the fields of electronic and experimental music for over 35 years, collaborating with the likes of current 93, the hafler trio, organum, andrew chalk, and most notably as a key part of nurse with wound alongside steven stapleton. he started the esteemed icr (integrated circuit recordings) label in 1981 releasing a clutch of wonderful home recordings of his own, over half a dozen small run cassette only releases. ‘the where house?’ was recorded in 1981 at ic studio, a converted wash house in sutton on the forest in north yorkshire. the album was self-released on cassette that same year via icr. this expanded double lp edition features all 13 tracks from the original tape on vinyl for the first time plus 4 bonus tracks. ‘the where house?’ is a prime example of early uk post-punk/industrial electronic music. “combining dub, electro, and krautrock rhythms with psychedelic, kosmische noise in multiple mutations ranging from almost pop-wise songcraft to horizon-scanning motorik flights,” says boomkat. most of the damage was done by colin using guitars, synths, sequencers, drum machines, percussion, and modified toy keyboards with fairly primitive 4-track recording equipment. he was assisted on some of the tracks by stephan jadd-parry (guitar, percussions), jon caffery (guitar, bass, e-bow, percussion) and nick jackson (synth). all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the record is sleeved in a replica of the original cassette artwork by jonathan coleclough. every copy includes a double sided postcard insert with notes from colin.

nick anthony simoncino is synonymous with the revival of italian house music over the past five years or so, and so it feels right for him to be delivering this album to vibraphone. of course, simoncino has more than enough skills (and hardware) to make something truly special, and that s apparent from the opening strains of -mystic adventures- onwards. there s a sense of urgency and mystery woven into tracks like -righteous rule-, where haunting leads wobble over sizzling drum machines, and the overall mood is redolent of 80s soundtracks mixed with the uneasy side of chicago house music. maintaining a punchy finish throughout and constantly reaching for the spooky side of machine soul, simoncino has more than delivered for the legendary italian label.

this past year breakout artist lessi s. has had his name on records for taverna, berg audio with an east end dubs remix, brawthers courtesy of balance and more. for his first solo ep he features an a-side filled with his trademark minimal inspired house sound, complimented by a corky nick beringer remix and dance floor hitting colab with paolo rocco for the flip side. as a long time resident of the rawmoments event series lessi s. is living up to his expectations.

this split lp compiles the output of two closely related bands from, as suggested by the title, the hot, humid and (at the time) socially isolated city of brisbane, australia – an unlikely location for synth-pop and new wave music during the 1980s. prod & the moonbaby were a high school duo experimenting with tape loops, cheap electronics and primitive sampling.. the result is certainly lo-fi, light-hearted and naive, but also charming and the music belies the young age of the musicians. ash in october was in many ways a logical progression of prod & the moonbaby and shared some of the same personnel, but also added some new wave influence through extra instrumentation and more serious, considered lyrics. most of these tracks have never been heard before outside a handful of self-distributed tapes and this compilation was compiled over several years by the artists in collaboration with hysteric and nick mariano (crispy nuggets).

the next bedrock release is the result of a collaborative project of the highest order from three of the scene s most respected creative mavericks - gabriel ananda, john digweed and nick muir. their collective concept of electronic music ventures into a vast, unexplored field of endless possibilities and is the futuristic two-part tachyon dream. a year in the making, the project started with john (who is a massive fan) reaching out to gabriel to see if he would be interested in working on a project together with nick. gabriel already had a demo in mind that he had started and the project was soon up and running.

wind river ist ein neuer spielfilm von taylor sheridan mit elizabeth olsen und jeremy renner in den hauptrollen. taylor sheridan hat zuvor das drehbuch zu dem film scicario von denis villeneuve verfasst. von ihm stammt auch der film hell or high water, bei dem er schon einmal mit nick cave & warren ellis zusammengearbeitet hat. nick cave und warren ellis interpretieren die natur-elemente (das rauschen des windes, die stille einer schneelandschaft) des filmes nach ihrem eigenen bekunden auf eine ganz eigene weise. für diese elementaren erfahrungen haben wir einen geisterhaften soundtrack produziert bei dem stimmen wispern, chöre aus dem nichts auftauchen und wieder verschwinden und der zumeist elektronisch produzierte sound zu pulsieren scheint, so warren ellis.
