aequilon records proudly present it’s superb first release! boyd goosman (who used to be part of the techno outfit noirdegout) was known for his powerfull releases on no fear records, and white noise (dave clake’s imprint) which have been played by some of the most recognised djs of the scene (laurent garnier, fabrice lig, dave clarke ...). he now works on his own, finding his niche in strong but deep and evocative techno. this new material on aequilon show his love for electro, detroit vibes, but also berlin’s modern techno. after spending so many hours in recent years dancing all other europe on the weirdest and wild dancefloors, boyd goosman felt that it was the right moment to express again his unique sonic trademarks. for this first release on aequilon, we asked to berlin’s resident cadency aka héctor oaks (reclaim your city, key vinyl, oaks records ...) to deliver an absolute killer remix of ‘lost control’ and he did it with an ultraphat bassheavy monster!

the third release from wavefreform again comes to us from the east, and this time around it marks a reformation of sound for both the label and the artist. half of the long-running georgian duo greenbeam & leon, boyd schidt is a producer with over a decade of work already under his belt whose first releases emerged in 2007. as a solo artist, his career dates to 2010 with digital releases on georgia’s front rec, fvf records, and emote music, and a track on the new vinyl compilation from studio r°. with the hard, broken kick pattern, elevated tempo, and nods to electro, the a-side ‘phantom’, a collaboration with subex, is a change of pace for the artist and the hardest thing yet to emerge from wavereform. dubwise use of effects shows the same hands still at work, but the sound elements, granulated blasts of static and drop-based structure of the track hold strong parallels to the rejuvenated techno sound currently emerging from the uk. the b-side, ‘structure’, recalls the previous work of the artist: subtle, building dub techno rich in detail and with the dancefloor firmly in mind. there is clear experience at work here with his deliberate deployment and manipulation of elements as the track struts along while enveloping the listener in its smaller details. as it pauses and takes an extended breakdown, the details rush forwards, but it finds renewed force to power itself to the close. coming in this case from an established producer with a long history, this kind of control is not surprising, but it is more indication of the riches of the east that have yet to be discovered by audiences worldwide.

a primer on london’s bright-burning young jazz scene, this new compilation brings together a collection of some of its sharpest talents. a set of nine newly-recorded tracks, we out here captures a moment where genre markers matter less than raw, focused energy. surveying the album’s running order, it could easily serve as a name-checking exercise for some of london’s most-tipped and hardworking bands of the past couple of years. recorded across three long, fruitful days in a north west london studio, the results speak for themselves: they’re a window into the wide-eyed future of london’s musical underground.

2529km records is a new dub techno label created by two friends and artists – piotr bejnar aka n1kt (warsaw, pl) and leon lolishvili aka boyd schidt (tbilisi, ge). 2529 km stands for the distance between warsaw and tbilisi. the idea of the label to release compilations with artists from different countries and nationalities. through music the label wants to unite different cultures and to create a group of friends all over the world, who support themselves in music and life. the first release 2529km 001 is the compilation from idealist (switzerland) - producer, dj and label owner of idealistmusic, stojche ( macedonia) - berlin-based artist who s primarily inspired of the local electronic scene in skopje, boyd schidt (georgia) - one of the leading techno artists in georgia and n1kt (poland) – new techno alias from the owner of 2529 km and otake records.

during the mid-80s and early 90s movin’ records defined the new jersey sound. a skate-shop-turned-record-store run by the so-called “fairy godmother of house” abigail adams, movin’s first output was ‘i’ve got the music’ by boyd jarvis in 1987, followed by music from game changers blaze, kerri chandler, tony humphries and smack, straight up “jersey jams” that producers are still attempting to replicate to this day. still the movin’ records catalogue throws up gems that sound super fresh along with plenty of lightbulb moments of musical discovery.
for the most part movin’ records focused on soulful vocal tracks but they peppered a few deeper tracks into the catalogue too. this is one of those releases and one of the rarer titles to find from the label. produced by steve kelly and steve ‘lucky’ benson as 3 a.m., this was the only single under that group name, although they were involved in other productions from new jersey. deep chords, a heavy kick and a low-end bass form the backing for the repeated vocal line “i love this place”. the ‘place of worship’ mix brings an uplifting piano line to the forefront, whilst an organ line jams out through the track with a jazzy walking bassline holding the groove together.

joe armon-jones & maxwell owinare forces to be reckoned with. both integral parts of the burgeoning south london jazz scene, these young musicians contribute to numerous outfits including ata kak, jamie isaac, mc pinty, moses boyd exodusand ezra collective, as well as pushing their own solo projects.this is their first combined effort. idiom is the result of multiple collaborations under the direction of joe and maxwell. featuring nubya garcia, oscar jeromeand jake long, it is heavily influenced by the hardcore continuum and covers everything from 2-step, broken-beat and house to jazz and dub.having been compared to artists like 4hero, floating points, harvey sutherlandand moodymannall in the same breath, joe & maxwell arealready garnering support from radio 6 musics gillespeterson, jazz fm/musica macondas tim garciaand jazz fms chris philips.this is an accomplished body of work by some of the most exciting young talent in london right now.

although not a band in a traditional sense of the word, this record was created by a rotating ensemble of players: for a brief moment, musicians from different backgrounds (in this iteration: preslav, kenny peagler, waajeed, joe defazio and phil boyd) became a band and then went their separate ways. rhodes, funk basslines, neo-soul chords and tight drum programming are the lingua franca of the 24 hour band. the title of each song represents the time of day that inspired it and collectively, they point to the goal to create records that can be enjoyed not just in a club, but throughout the day, at home, or in your car. this is the 24hr band.

pittsburghs most loved sons, the modey lemon, rip through 3 years of silence with their new record, season of sweets. with one foot in the sci fi darkness of their last record curious city, one foot in their past garage angst ridden wreckage and one foot in the kautrock brilliance of the german frontier (what, three feet?) season of sweets is a fuzzed out, driving masterpiece with catchy hooks beaten to death by guitar / synth mayhem and the anchor of paul quattrones drums of passion. as primitive as it is futuristic, modey lemon is recreating the present, molecule by molecule, every second of every breath. the trio from pittsburgh returns with another helping of sugary sweetness that rots your teeth and leaves you wanting more. recorded during the dead of winter in pittsburgh, pa at the brass factory. mixed and recorded by jason kirker, member and principal noisemaker. the last 2 years have been very, very interesting for the band. after signing with mute recording in the uk and playing the granddaddy of all venues, the fillmore opening for dinosaur jr., the band took some time away to regroup and work on new material. the result is season of sweets. driven by drummer extraordinaire paul quattrone, the songs twist and turn through the imagery and dark rock that has made modey lemon famous. jason kirker (engineer and band member) uses various keyboards, moogs and instruments to make the sound more full. at the heart of this album is the energy and mysticism singer phil boyd leads you on. track number 5, become a monk is the more pop oriented and accessible track, with a great back beat and bass.

“mirror test” conjures that rare mood between darkness and elation, contemplation and celebration, and drives it home with an infectious, jacking rhythm section which recalls the late-80s ny club music of boyd jarvis and paul simpson, and labels like easy street and fourth floor, but imbues the sound with a toughness and precision only possible today. analog synth figures, glassy and angular, ricochet around the track, trading jabs with funky snare work and robotic, stabby chord patterns to create a hook-laden machine groove which demands repeated listening.
the record’s b-side feature, “replace yourself,” is the subtler, dreamier, more futuristic of the two. unmistakably urban with its swinging, bottom-heavy groove and strange, architectural chord work, it seduces and transports. “replace yourself” dares you to do exactly that.

ilija rudman is quite a unique character. a fact reinforced by listening to some of the records from his vast catalogue, taking a walk through his next level studio or simply talking to him. preferably, all three at once, as it is often the case. authenticity is the word that comes to mind when describing the work of this leading croatian artist or while listening to the material we are proud to put out on 12th burek release. the record features three cuts.

after a best-selling debut record, low budget family - an independent moscow-based record label run by the crew behind the legendary shop&bar denis simachev formation return, and how! king solomons mines from simple symmetry is quite a classic in the making - a deceptively simple workout that reminds of mid 80s boyd jarvis jams, but shot through with 21st century twists and turns, that amplify those tough drum machines, anthemic afro elements, chants and marimba riffing. add a truly dynamic arrangement and you have a dancefloor dynamite! it is disco royalty on the remix tip as soft rocks & brennan green step up. as expected, given the incredible ingredients, the two of them shine. soft rocks set up a classic euro flavoured afro-trance workout, utilising the parts against a far more electronic and unrelenting backdrop, building to a sweaty, strobe-lit finale. brennan green may be less than prolific these days, but he is dependable as ever here. working up a synth-soaked, prelude style dub, whose classic elements will work the floor from here to zanzibar…

fleetwood mac is a band with many faces. in contrast to their poppy sound of the 70s, fleetwood mac actually started out in the sixties as a psychedelic blues band under guitarist peter greens lead.
pious bird of good omen was originally released in 1969 as a compilation of the bands bluesy roots: their first four uk singles and their b-sides and two tracks by bluesman eddie boyd with fleetwood mac backing. the albums sound is laidback, down & very dirty, featuring scorching cover versions of little willie johns >need your love so bad< and robert johnsons >i believe my time aint long<. the b-side features the international hit single >albatross< and peter greens composition >black magic woman<, the latter being popularized by santanas version in 1970. this album is a must-have for blues fans. anyone interested in the roots of fleetwood mac might discover they are essentially a totally different band than one might think.
