bring u up originally appeared on romans blackmale label in 1995 as a rumbling slice of new jersey garage complete with gospel samples and romanthony collaborator the trojan horse. it was a bit of a cult favourite with underground heads like dj deep. it wasnt until roman completely re-produced and re-sang the song in 2000 that it fully took on anthem status. out went the heavy kicks and hypnotic moods and in came james brown horn stabs and a live beat that sounded like bernard purdie had joined him for the session (the drums were actually provided by roman himself). the result was an instant club hit with everyone from pete tong to francois kevorkian that reached (a very respectable 74) in the uk national charts. on this 12 inch deetrons takes the funk vibe of romans 2000 version and toughens it up for todays dancefloors, lee webster adds a monster baseline and some serious beats. on the flip-side the original blackmale version is re-issued on vinyl for the first time as is an unreleased dj friendly edit of the 2000 version done by kevin mckay.

though classically trained, arthur russells major contributions to the music world is in the dance genre. despite the fact that his pioneering work in the late 70s and on through the 80s was only quietly acknowledged at the time, his long-term impact is best described as formidable. russell died in 1992, but his art lives on and his influence is still felt in the world of dance music and beyond. his innovative, leftfield dance records flew way ahead of what people were used to hearing at the time, due in part to his involvement in new yorks downtown avant-garde music scene.

since the initial groundbreaking release of >the world of arthur russell< five years ago, russell has become the subject of intense media interest. with the recent release of a film about his life (>a portrait of arthur russell<), as well as a new album of unreleased recordings, (>love is overtaking me<), arthur russells stature as a great artist has grown to is current height. we are happy to announce xdb on echocord dj/producer xdb aka kosta athanassiadis has been djing since the early nineties but its in the last few years that his abilities as a producer have come to fore both through his recordings for labels such as detroits sistrum and francois ks wave music, remixes for norm talley, conforce and patrice scott to name a few, along with the releases on his own metrolux label which he founded in 2006. lately, kosta athanassiadis is garnering the overdue attention of popular writers and fellow musicians. throughout his growing popularity, xdb has kept his identity nearly silent, allowing his music to be unpolluted by preconceived notions that comes with branding ones image. less is more, he suggests, applying the advice to inspiring and established artists. in the end, it was this tactic – of letting the music speak for itself – that cultivated the respect and trust of his fans. recent 2011 releases are his bakfom ep on harbour city sorrow and now followed by the apari ep on echocord. two powerfull dubby tracks by xdb + a fantastic remix by sven weisemann

next up on falkplatz we chose one of italys most talented and uprising producers for contemporary dance music. roberto bosco from salerno. bosco already released on francois ks wave music, on orlando voorns night vision and is currently preparing his first full length for len fakis figure label. beside that he founded his own imprint flying donkey music together with claudio mate. for falkplatz roberto produced two tracks, that catch the ears of housefanatics (good lover) as well as the hearts of the technolunatics (untitled). remixes this time come from panorama bar resident steffi, who gave the original a touch of oldschool and sadness and from the falkplatz conspiracy (oliver deutschmann & ed davenport) who mixed a crafty acid influenced warehouse banger out of the original.
