autarkic describe himself as first and foremost a songwriter but he has also made a name for himself as an international dj. over the past three years the musician based in tel aviv has, with great success, played clubs throughout all of europe. one extra memorable gig was on last year’s edition of convenanza in the amphitheatre in sete, france. rumour has it that the sea living mammals of the area flocked in large groups in the waters below during autarkic’s gig. this 12” picture vinyl is his first release on hoga nord rekords and the slightly psychedelic, sample- and synthesiser based club music that has become autarkic’s trademark sound is captured by an impeccable production. the music is playful, yet stripped down to the essentials and not overloaded. the vocal elements works more as percussive elements than the carrier of the storytelling in the music. if you missed him live or just don’t have the means to go see him, this record give a taste of autarkic’s hypnotic live performances!

russia s underground party and podcast series abcd (any body can dance) have decided to launch their own label and geo-referencing has become a major aspect in the choice of artists for the first release. xan and honeälome are from one provincial town of votkinsk, which character left a solid imprint on the work of both musicians. experimental yet atmospheric house grooves with electronica influences and leftfield breaks for your listening pleasure!

yama music return with their second instalment on their own self-titled label, with yet more trippy minimal house music. as with the first record, yama music 002 brings 3 original cuts which are stripped back groove aimed at the dancefloor. the uk based label kick things off with “outstore”, eerie pads sit on top of tight stripped back drums which have a glitchy atmospheric synth adding to the cosmic feel of this record. the b side are two tracks that follow a similar pattern but retain their individuality. the first of these is “who what space”, this track is propelled along with a bone shaking yet infectious bassline, crisp percussion and an otherworldly synth. “who what toms” wraps up the ep with delicate shuffling percussion, a tight kick drum and a sexy bassline ready to make the dancefloor hum. a well placed vocal and a synth that sounds like it’s taken from the starship enterprise rounds off a great return for yama music.

neil landstrumm began producing in the early 90s after moving to edinburgh from inverness. initially producing within a variety of groups often with christian vogel, he began his solo production in 1993 influenced by the sheffield school of bleep as well as electro and miami bass. landstrumm s unique sound soon caught the ears of a wide variety of some of the worlds finest electronic labels and he went onto record for tresor and planet mu as well as his string of ep s and album for peacefrog. his playful sense of humor and penchant toward unpredictable song structures and bizarre sounds have continued to offer humour in a world often dominated by serious minimalism. threesome features landstrumm s three peacefrog ep s originally released between early 1995 and 1996. highlights include the minimalist chicago jack track takks, dancefloor destroyers such as swing / jerk and blam the target, along with the off kilter raw stomping funk of sniff and destroy. to this day landstrumm remains one of the true innovators in uk techno.
