wrltd series continue with the 12-inch by maltese producer christopher buhagiar. previously known as n.d (natch records, subself records, reaktivate), now he hides under the name of hail blk. with launching of his own self-titled label, he took a step forward in his creative evolution, producing raw analogic techno on the edge between harsh post-industrial grooves and deep hypnotic soundscapes. now we can hear this kind of magic in original tracks on the a-side of the current ep. on the b-side there are 2 amazing remixes of the title track: the apocalyptic industrial anthem by tomohiko sagae (rodz-konez, hue helix), and the multi-layered hallucinogenic excursion by datura dilema (subsist, modularz).

based out of san francisco, extra classic is a unique live band formed with a keen appreciation of vintage reggae & vintage sounds. the aesthetic, and certainly the skilled method of their production, is an ode to the art of that classic style as referenced to the term coined by the cool ruler himself. recording in their own studio, nopal recording, the band employs a taster’s choice of analog equipment and is devotedly tracked, spliced and mixed in-house direct to tape. however, as the group’s name itself implies, there is a dose of something extra and new in this swirling mixture of space echo, heavy phase, and emotive, psychedelic california-soul.
built upon the rock of an early-era dancehall swing, their first single in conjunction with brooklyn-based imprint names you can trust entitled in this life, is a perfect slice of lover’s rock gone sideways, a decidedly left-coast piece of roots and bliss driven by adrianne delanda’s lovely lead vocals and the steady, dusty echoes of the locked in players. presented in the traditional format with a version as per nyct fashion, the dub mix incorporates a soothing dose of synare beams and underwater instrumental dreams.

it all began with a licensing inquiry for a sister funk cut which we wanted to include on our deep funk comp titled “feeling nice vol. 3”. after the deal was completed producer fred forsh mentioned that the backing band of nadine brown’s masterpiece “leave me alone” had released a 45 themselves under their name teakwood. after mr. forsh played us both sides we knew that this 45 would have to be re-issued. what was about to follow nobody of us ever expected. mr. forsh told us that teakwood recorded almost a dozen of songs which were supposed to be released on a full length album. for unspecified reasons the album was never released and it remained in the can for almost 40 years. finally, we are very proud to announce the release of teakwood’s debut album “a distant star” in early 2017. until then you have to be content with this 45 rpm single re-issue.

the bobby donny label hits number four with a first ep of 2016. after efforts from label owner frits wentink and eindhoven producer san2, this one comes from tlim shug. the low-profile american producer has only one ep to his name so far, but it was an impressive one that came on echovolt records last year and suggested he has a passion for moody and lo-fi deep house.

new sounds from an old friend... i d been running franklin de costa s records for years, but after i played for his party in berlin a few years back we kept in touch. he runs a club night called mother s finest which puts on artists like tessela, truss, untold, dj fett burger and more, as well as releasing singles under his own name on labels like killekill and curle, and, as mudkid, beautiful tracks on greta cottage workshop. the three trax built for this ep on not so much are, like anything fresh and futuristic, hard to pin down in words. sssooo is a kind of detuned chattering b-boy cut that slides sideways between dimensions while always driving forward. mldk is another one for any dancers with moves.

2016 reissue - this rarity from the thule catalog has been considered by many to be one of the finest releases from the label and has been extremely sought after by techno-loving vinyl collectors. these couple of minimal techno masterpieces were released in 1998 and immediately caught the attention of big names within the industry, such as richie hawtin. from the hypnotic and atmospheric t1 to the driven minimal beauty of t2 this release is a solid feast for the ears, mind and soul. thor (thorhallur skulason) is one of the founders of the thule records legacy. with his numerous releases on sushitech berlin, connaisseur recordings and missile records (to name a few), he has established himself as one of the leading techno producers of our generation. thule records is considered by many to be a pioneer in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of icelands most renowned electronic musicians. repress

opening cut acido setting the tone perfectly via murky broken rhythms and glitched out bass hits before the latter stages introduce a squelching 303 lead which tails out the rest of the record.what follows and takes a more robust approach rhythmically with a weighty kick drum, shuffling congas and choppy hats lying at the forefront while spiralling bass hits and vocal chops meander around them. opening the flip is nasty(or nylo if there is no way to fix name) which draws on an earth shattering sub bass lead, sparse percussive shots and a subtly bubbling synth stabs.lastly the package is closed with nylo(or koi if there is no way to fix name), an intricately programmed energy fuelled workout featuring reversed bass swells, jazz tinged rhodes melodies and crunchy distorted drums.

death on the balcony s ‘tides of fortune has been the subject of relentless -track id- requests pleading us to reveal the name of the artist and track since be-at-tv streamed the bpm performance of lee burridge and matthew dekay back in 2015. joined on the ep by three other tracks there s a cohesive feel to the two friends vibe. mysterious melodies drift in and out of the hypnotic grooves on rivers of sound that could have soundtracked a star trek episode from the original series. 1700 miles is delicate and deep with a simple infectious vocal sample. don t be deceived though. when played on a club system the kick drum and bassline draw you in while the atmospheric elements send the listener to otherworldly places. we feel rather privileged as this track is mark’s first solo outing from dotb under his new moniker “caramelli” and dotbs first full length on all day i dream. mark’s back in the band for memories of the future which completes the release with its funky bass and trippy ambience. close your eyes and be transported.

celldöd, aka anders karlsson, has been releasing dirty electronic music since the late 80s, both small-run cassette tapes inspired by the diy ethos of his post-punk background, and pristine vinyl editions. karlsson s music is uncompromising and edgy, with roots in both early electronic and 70s industrial music from britain, as well as us techno and kraut-inspired german electronics. prior to releasing records under the name celldöd, he released music as the pain machinery (ebm), human experiment (industrial), preset (industrial/breakcore), and hbt (proto-techno/industrial) among others — all unified by an omnipresent diy-punk attitude.

he might be an architect by profession, but in his spare time spanish producer jaime tellado sets forth his work with the construction of groove and the design of soundscapes. under his skygaze moniker, he’s built a name for himself far outside the scene he’s grown up in. with his ‘some fun’ ep, once again showcases his well-structured yet wild-flowing melodic groove, combining deep bass with an ambient touch.

berlin-based dj and techno producer savas pascalidis has been steadily making his mark in underground electronic music circles since his first releases in the mid-90s. born in south germany and later moved to berlin, the well-traveled dj has been among the restless and classically minded members of the dance music community over the last decades. he developed skills that led him into producing records and made a name for himself with a series of dark, loopy and groove driven dancefloor orientated techno music. pure and simple. his releases earned him a reputation for being something of a dance music purist.

die form is a french post-industrial and electronic band formed in 1977-1978. the name die form means (the) form/shape in german and is a play on the english homonym deformed and on the french homonym difforme (deformed). die form is the primary project of electronic musician and multimedia artist philippe fichot. he began by recording a number of experimental cassette releases in the late 1970s and formed the bain total label to release these early cassettes, as well as various side projects such as krylon hertz, camera obscura, eva-johanna reichstag, hurt and fine automatic.

seeing as public release is a san francisco label and sister to face, a long-running local party, you could say it was inevitable the label would put out a record that candidly celebrates its hometowns talent, color, character. 415-pr10, whose name is an ode to s.f.s first, emblematic area code, is exactly that: a frenetic survey of some of northern california’s finest producers— and a blueprint of sorts for more similarly-minded and themed eps in the future

the grooves of thomas white and pete williams aka natural rhythm, have been a mainstay in the sets of robsoul boss phil weeks for more than a decade. today he pays ‘tribute’ with a special re-release of some of his favourites. born in a garage in the late 90’s, natural rhythm was a meeting of passionate musical minds. working together the pair sought to create their own style and sound, influenced by the tracks they were regularly spinning in their own dj sets across the country. creative sampling and their own raw beats, together with live instrumentation and regular guest vocalists, saw natural rhythm create a strong catalogue that, as we know, are still getting played today. with three albums and over 35 ep/single releases to their name, there more than enough music for label boss weeks to select from for the tribute ep. a tough job? of course. however, phil went straight for the four that never leave his box. leading the ep are the sun-drenched vocal vibes of ‘something big’, the title track of natural rhythm’s 1999 release on under the counter. our a2 is the lead track from 2001’s last call at the martini ranch ep, ‘chicago nights’, with its quaking bassline and disco dalliance. on the flip we’re treated to a choice selection from natural rhythm’s 1999 double album contrast in nature. first up with its celestial chimes and thumping kick is ‘smoldering island’, taken from the original part 1. closing the tribute release and taken from part 2 is the devilishly funky and suitably titled feelgood jam ‘energized’. we definitely are!

inspired by many of the industry’s pioneers, such as, ricardo villalobos, masomenos, marc antona, rhadoo, seuil, cabanne, petre inspirescu and danny tenaglia, to name but a few, counrad has been strongly influenced by deep and meaningful techno, since he began his plight in the industry. music has always been at the forefront, for this italian dj/producer , and the inwave and counrad series labels boss relishes the challenge of crafting techno that reveals itself gradually to the more discerning listener, fusing a multitude of grooves from contrasting musical styles, with a combination of sexy rhythms, subtle textures and emotive melodies. in this first release for metroline limited, counrad showcases the full spectrum of his versatile production skills. the title track underwater is a full on 15 minutes epic chunky minimal monster that just keeps on building. this amazing piece of work takes the listener on a journey that starts with hypnotic minimalism and finishes with some intricate trippy techno. on the flipside you can find the dark and percussive peak time tech-house grooves of particle collsisions and some uber-cool modern machine funk minimalism in the shape of the closing track synapse.

having bared his ego back in may 2015 and then more of his skills on a contribution to the robsoul edits collection earlier this year, long time label buddy joss moog returns with a fresh selection of beats on ’triple loop’. belying its name, we’re treated to four new sure shots from moog who, reknowned in the art of sculpting perfect party jams, has delivered once again. the stripped and simple vocal loop of the title track opens the ep, followed by the warm, buzzing bass and smooth jazzy keys of ‘etincelles’. on the flip the frenchman funks things up and breaks out the snares. disco stabs, vocal drops and rasping hats are all woven together to emphasise the classic groove. these are the breaks… amen. back on the 4x4 to close and josh lets the piano lead the dance on the smooth and soulful finalé of his latest robsoul treat.

the martinez brothers cuttin headz returns with a new ep from the butcha, entitled 10001 and backed with two remixes from matrixxman. phil moffa aka the butcha is a new york city based musician, producer and engineer most notably known for his works alongside dj spider and anthony parasole for sublevel sounds / plan b recordings and alongside seth troxler for hypercolour. here we see him return to the fledgling cuttin headz imprint with his idiosyncratic take on raw, emotive house music following his destination void release alongside dj spider and brendon moeller last year. up first are two originals from the butcha, the first of which 99 prince st. lays focus on echoing atmospherics, snaking rhodes and shuffling dubbed out percussion while the latter, 6 hubert st. pivots towards an amalgamation an upfront organic rhythm alongside a weighty low end drive and wandering synth swells. to complete the package san franciscos matrixxman delivers two interpretations, firstly the acidized mix which as the name would suggest draws on squelching 303 lines layered over processed snippets from the original before the digital bonus transhuman mix closes on an arpeggio fuelled techno tip.

formed in 2015, vanishing twin came together to make an exploratory record that marries oblique english pop with a palette of arkestral sounds. having previously released a string of conceptual cassettes under the name orlando, founder cathy lucas named the group after her vanishing twin, an identical sister absorbed in utero, when they were both still a cluster of cells.

label name ittetsu is his actual family name as well as his artist name where he expresses his passion about music. 001 is a 2 track ep on his own followed by a split ep 002 with a special newcomer.

jonas friedlich, better known through mistress recordings and carl gari, releases his first solo 12- on molten moods. the versatile 4 track ep starts with the rather straight -bo s breakfast- that begins with a polyrhythmic 303 bass line leading into a catchy garage-ish chorus, kicking in out of a clear sky but fittingly. -bus driver- is a wicked trip, the combination of the long acid build up and a nicely chopped vocal bit is irresistible. a proven, tested (and molten moods certified) club banger, regardless of its rather untypical breakbeat. track number 3 called -praise your name- aces groove through perfectly cut vocal samples and a fancy reference to 90s hip hop and drum n bass aesthetics. the next and last piece on the record is the eponymous -deskjet-, which is inspired by friedlichs conceptual sound art installations using printers. here rather restrained synthie lines are underpinned by a powerful kick and psychedelic tape delay noises. the 12- vinyl is handstamped on both sides. mastered and cut by scape mastering. artwork by paul bernhard.

stockholm-based imprint swedish brandy productions serves up a sultry four track v/a 12 inch with deep and soulful gems. first out on the a side you get the track * legs lover*. equipped with yamaha rs-7000, moog rouge and roland juno 106, moscow based house and techno purist and producer harry light gives us an uncompromising old school deep house groover with crisp pounding beats, stuttering chords and distinct catchy hooks. harry light has previous releases on labels such as artreform, pro-tez and beef to name a few. the a side ends off with the post-disco sounding killer track “overland & sea” by london based producer and dj dan westlake aka westlake72. dan’s sound borrows liberally from the history of club and dance music, mixing and matching eras to create his own contemporary sonic palette, sighting the early and mid 80 s new york post-disco producers such as darryl payne and paul simpson in particular as key influences. on the flip side soultechnic aka deejaykul delivers the deep and classy track “addicted”. rául navarette, the man behind both aliases, has been holding it down since the late 80 s, releasing music on labels like atjazz record company, z records, peng, del, basic fingers and xtrasolar records, and remixing great artists like opolopo, the rurals, gregory del piero, kenny bobien, monday michiru, monodeluxe, diviniti and many more.

this the second album by big funk factory d-funkt! the soundtrack to the story transaction declined traces the final adventure of dweeb droid and introduces aged rocker awm, whose perfidious character we will suffer a good deal more in the final chapter of the big funk epic bucky ball. anyway back to d-funkt! the band s usual cast features amongst others mat johnson (jamiroquai, laura doggit, julian perretta, duffy) as the nerdmeister general on keyboards. wayne nunes and perry melius (tricky, aswad, billy ocean) as that tall bloke and the metrognome on bass and drums

after his 2012 starpatch release on red rack em s bergerac imprint it seemed seetheroad has retired from music. now he is back - as the very first uk artist in the history of tape hiss - with four twisted pieces halfway between techno and electronica. it’s a kind gesture to the label he gave a hungarian title to the ep. cédrus Út means cedar road, what was his previous location and inspired his artist name at the same time.

donato dozzy and neel s spazio disponibile keeps up the pressure here with a fine fourth ep of 2016, this time from mike parker. the label - which also has a party of the same name in rome attached to it - deals in heady techno, so the geophone label owner and new york artist parker is a perfect fit with his always deep offerings.

an imprint of käse kool. “same shit, new name” kk’s latest comes from berlin-based producer nick beringer. transit ep produces a steady flow of funky, groovy tech house that will get anyone moving until the early morning, while lopaski’s finishing remix of “brija” caps off the ep with a a fresh interpretation of nick s soon-to-be classic.

cannataci records - a new record label run by ripperton & agnès cannataci records is a joint venture hosted by ripperton and agnès. the label is aimed at releasing rather unclassified music, pieces our friends compose or simply ourselves. the aim is at releasing music we believe make things go beyond the usual paths. the label name is a reference to our hopes in the newly appointed un special rapporteur on privacy, namely, joseph cannataci. frankly, we do not want to taint our music with politics, although we are simply firm endorsers of our own privacy and think everybody else should.

there is an alternative reality known as the big funk factory. those unsuspecting travellers who fall into this other place find themselves exposed to many characters and tales from this universe.

the smoke clears is the abstract ambient project of producer john daly (one track/izu/running back, feel) he debuted this alias with an eponymous lp in 2013 on further records and we re proud to present a part 2. following up his 2013 lp of the same name, this record builds upon it s predecessors ambient abstractions while adding another layer of nuanced melodic contemplation.

reduced and methodical housey techno from this new anonymous project out of portugal. in the same lineage as early cabinet records or tobias freund under his tobias. moniker, the duo apply the detail-oriented approach of a sound designer to classic dancefloor forms, each cut matching techno sensibilities with a levity that can only come from a love for the giants of 90s us house. flat, impassive kicks get lifted by skippy hats and claps, dubby synth backdrops are punctured by dramatic stabs (note the chez n trent flashes on the b-side), and under it all roams an ever-restless (sub-)bass that reaches right into your guts. the name may be routine, the effect is anything but.

following the release of his debut album as trevino earlier this year, marcus ‘intalex’ kaye marks his first notch on the hotflush bedpost with a plucky four-track ep, wearing all the stripes that an artist of his experience and versatility has earned. kaye’s four-to-the-floor productions as trevino have always possessed a latent sheen from the dynamic world of drum and bass where he first made his name. here it’s evident in the impeccably balanced mix of lead track, ‘slide away’, where forlorn melody is driven as much by bass as it is by liquid chords. the tempo is upped on ‘mosaic’ - a techno record that follows an uplifting path - and on desecrate it’s in fifth gear with a bass line that rolls and grows and bangs and rolls. the high-speed, echo chamber dub of ‘jungle love rounds off an ep of notable range.

despite his artist name and his trademark sound, steve murphy does not come from chicago, but from mira, a little town on the suburban area of venice. steve has been djing since 2001, and in the past years has been rocking almost every club in his region. he is serious and professional behind the decks: playing only with vinyl, he blends electro and house, techno and new wave, acid madness and pop appeal. steve has produced together with die roh an album (-the chasm-) and one e.p (-windy city-) on chiwax, and a solo 10- (-planet earth-) on rawax, these records have quickly gone out of stock and that have been acclaimed by the lovers of the classic warehouse sounds. in 2012 he has started the riviera project and has founded the muscle records label, together with lucretio, dj octopus, caio, madì grein and chevel. the label is a facility to spread what has been called -the sound of brenta-: a raw, nasty, machines powered clash of house and techno. in 2012 he also released -the dove ultimatum- on vae victis records, under the moniker of durant: an unfriendly 12- of distorted electro and funky acid beats produced with die roh and lucretio.

the debut release on sores could be by none other than martyr of sores. it is a project of the prominent experimental artist richard ramirez, with hundreds of productions to his name. richard has worked with names like prurient, thurston moore, the haters and merzbow just to name a few. he is also an avantgarde fashion designer. ’ceremony’ is a monumental noise piece in two parts. electrical whirlwind sounds that grows ever so slowly to take you in and tighten it’s grip around your very being. chants evolve in and out of the inferno that are nothing less than astonishing. a hard and beautiful noise work, thanks richard.
