a:g delivers his vinyl debut on aquavit, with something for both house and techno heads! with the title track dobra mare being a journey into endlessly deep dub techno soundscapes with a strong rolling bottom end for the darker rooms, the flipside offers a homage to the classic roland tr707 drum machine with the percussion sounds we all know so well, accompanied by a big bass lead to remember the next day. both tracks also get proper remix action: label boss robert solheim goes deep and progressive for dobra mare, and icelandic wonder boy viktor birgiss does a melodic deep dub house approach to i wish i had a 707.

the last few years has seen parris make a name for himself across a number of scenes, to the extent he is just as likely to be found spinning records for butterz as he is putting records out on berceuse heroique. here at idle hands we first touched base with parris many moons ago when he bought copies of the first release on his soundman chronicles label into our shop. as it is one of our favourite labels we were intrigued to hear what he would come up with as producer himself. needless to say we were impressed. presented here are two tracks that perfectly reflect his sound and our own a nod to techno here, a weighty bass line there, a love of reverb everywhere and all with a view to being played in dark rooms late at night. the 12 inch of burr and blue is idle hands last release of 2015 and we think it rounds off nicely what has been a great year for the label.

* kickin in*, an epic 12-minute journey through disco, that patrick cowley recorded in 1978. the song encapsulates the hi-nrg dance music that patrick became known for. it was an * up* sound for the gay disco scene, music that would compliment and sometimes enhance all night dancing. on the flip are two earlier songs produced between 1975-77 featuring basslines by college classmate and studio mate maurice tani. both songs feature patrick narrating erotic gay sex fantasies inspired by san franciscos leather bars, back rooms and bathhouses. these songs show the sleazy side of cowleys slow burning, oozing electronic creations

phonica white returns with two extended cuts from their mainstay artist iori. monsoon & rainfall mark ioris 5th contribution to the label and it may be his best yet. monsoon on the a-side is a deeply hypnotizing piece of dub techno thats destined to cause dance floor destruction. steady kicks & toms open the track up before a relentless downpour of intricate percussion and low-end stabs lock you in for the track’s 10 minute duration definitely one for the long nights in dark rooms. the b-side is a calming contrast to the a side storm. deep and meditative, rainfall comprises sparse modulating synth keys coupled with a bouncy rhythm section and airy spaced-out sound effects that create a dreamy atmosphere. this is iori on top form.

vim & vigour open the batting with a two track ep from yorkshire lads will & held. with an analog approach, their take on uk electronica seamlessly ties in with the london labels aesthetic. pressed to the highest quality and paired with a tom demac rework, bespoke artwork and short film, vim & vigours first release has some serious clout.

delusion men were here before time started to flow and it seems they will stretch out their existence way beyond doomsday which probably explains their archaic impulses reverberating in a foggy, lost future. what they deliver are pieces of straightforward punk plunged into disco depths, kraut derailment and swirling drum machine melancholia. if you are looking for retro-future dystopias with no space for healthy minded horizons, this is the thing for you. delusion men walked together since the inception of future nuggets, although for them the time will never come, we snatched their debut ep. it feels as if through them the old ones are channeling the last messages of hopelessness for dance floors and dining rooms.

the munich born sound architect has released 13 eps, two long payers and numerous mixes in her distinctive extravagant and charismatic style. her music includes techno productions as well as -music for theater-. we picked up on cio when she moved to cologne several years ago and appreciate her as an exceptional human being and as a tastemaker. this is the second release she has done with us. her hypnotic djs sets enchant clubbers around the world, from berlins berghaim to people in tokyo. her track >off< describes a biotope in which two different poles gently collide. rooms of reverb meet orchestral sounds meet acoustic clicks, in a process of an ongoing motion, where there is no beginning and no end. the flip side highlights >and on< shows white horses amids the waves of sounds. this track could be an electronic soundtrack to a day at an isolated beach in the indian ocean. enjoy.

for release number four soul intent comes up with something truly special. the fruit club is a big nod back to the famous fruit club event that was held at the brunel rooms in swindon throughout the 90s. this is where soul intent first heard dnb as it should be via underground heros like doc scott, kemistry & storm, and dj lee. infact even the label artwork has been designed around their old flyers (big up to dj faydz & stephen reid for permission to use the fruit club logo).

nice price deal !!! marking the first output of cymasonic s offshot vinyl-only label and collabaration with subwax distribution, the balder ep is a two-hundred copy, hand stamped entry into the world of cymawax. there s no better way to start than with four quality tracks of hot and crunchy norwegian techno with soul by trulz & robin, under their new moniker for otherworldly machine sounds: ksmisk. the duo from oslo have been a force in norway s electronic music scene for over two decades, but their current project is set to bend and exceed all expectations. the title track makes full use of spacial effects to create the kind of landscape deserving of the cavernous exchange of industrial rooms or the breathing walls of smaller sweatboxes. its energetic arpeggiation carries the driving, raw bass line home. less linear and more neurotic, -jonson- squelches its way into existence. next, -water- is as fluid as the name suggests, using deep, delayed dub chords to sustain listeners during its eight minute life. finally, the release ends on -tehjerk- which is full of electricity, heavily charged with distortion and powerful drums before opening up into a euphoric waterfall of melodies. it s fitting that this chronicle should end up pressed onto wax, a monument to the physical launch of cymawax and trulz & robin presenting ksmisk.
