morgan zarates second release for hyperdub is a bold and unexpected move for him. he has been known in the past as the producer for leftfield soul group spacek and also currently as one half of the shining, signed to xl records, but with >broken heart collector< he has made some highly contagious dubstep pop, featuring rising singer / songwriter / producer stevie neale on vocals. stevie warns of a guy who is the titular >broken heart collector<. her rnb vocals contrast with a fierce storm of drums and vertiginous synths that attack like waves against rocks. it is a brilliant pop song, with a chorus earworm you might find hard to resist. there is also an instrumental included as well. the third track is >crey bey<, an energetic, grimy 8 bar instrumental. it shifts between dive-bombing synths and a spooked, nervous melody over a rich organ track, with martial kicks and snares guaranteed to get you bouncing.

any fan of drum & bass will know the name cyantific. having built a reputation as a leader of the new school d&b generation, jon stanley is now approaching a decade of releasing incredible music thats equally at home on the dance floor as it is on your ipod or in your car. last year saw cyantific unleash an incredible single for ram records, as well as bounce it / obey on his own self-titled cyantific record label. here we have the follow up to that release and its undoubtedly another exciting 12 inch, packed with plenty of cyantifics trademark energy. effortlessly combining sharp production skills with graceful musicality, you can always be assured that a new cyantific record is one to watch out for and this new single is certainly no exception. mirador takes the lead, opening with huge sweeping sound fx and a bouncing synth line that harks back to a classic ram sound. its not long before you notice cyantifics signatures though, as he brings in vocal snippets and washing pads that gradually build and grow before a monster bassline drops into the mix. this one undeniably straddles the line between restrained musical class and outright dance floor mayhem. on the flip side defect comes in at an infinitely more paranoid level. strings are infused with urgency and rolling breaks thunder along, dragging you kicking and screaming towards the inevitable drop. you wont be disappointed when it hits either, grinding bassline sections are juxtaposed with obsessive synths, all pulling you deeper into cyantifics musical world.

flux blends retro video game sounds with vocal samples, laid out against a psychedelic cha-cha rhythm. this one received early support from martyn who - fresh off his lp release - weighs in with one of his strongest and most playable remixes in recent memory, driving the 8-bit riff into a frenzy, backed by iron-clad beats bouncing atop a megaton sub.. guaranteed crowd-pleaser, this one!

one of the most promising artists that has come out of amsterdam over the years, david labeij, has recently had more time to focus on his solo career now that polder, his live act with lauhaus, is an established and high quality techno outfit, with an album on shinedoes intacto imprint and many singles to their and his name. where the infamous polder groove is aimed at blowing up dancefloors, labeijs solo tracks are more on the hypnotic side of techno and house, as each track on this release demonstrates, as well as plenty of bouncing and playful basslines. labeijs sets - live and dj - are notorious for their mesmerizing qualities, and he is rapidly gaining international grounds with his distinct and captivating take on dance music, so we hope you enjoy this release

on the a-side we have teamed up with new london producer drumtalk for a remix of ghanas mpese mpese band. initially released in 1986 the original track was an extended medley – the remix balances the swing of the original with heavy bass and chopped chords, bringing the track up to date while respecting the vibe of the original – an intense example of futuristic highlife that bridges the gap between hackney and accra.
the flip sees the sofrito crew present a killer groove courtesy of the canadoes dance band, originally released on the rogers all stars label in 1982. a minor key intro drops into bouncing drums, handclaps and a bubbling bassline that build and build into a deep and unrelenting groove…

the notorious guillaume & the coutu dumonts makes a triumphant return to circus company after last year’s critically acclaimed album, breaking the fourth wall, with 3 deeper than deep (s)explosions sure to become omnipresent fixtures in the sets of damn near any dj with even a shred of good sense in the months to come. >ubiquitous gaze< gets the ball rolling in classic coutu dumont style with a rollicking sea of percussion thankfully populated with a few desert islands of respite in the form of a gorgeously lush string and piano arrangement and the soft meandering monologue of a certain well known musician discussing his craft. b side leader >youre the one< comes on strong with a bouncing d-town bassline and soft stabbing chords that would make kenny larkin proud before rolling out a high stepping lead organ and swinging vocal chops before tying the whole funky mess together with one of his trademark charging conga lines. known for his unbound generosity and proving it here once again, a beatless stringapella of >ubiquitous gaze< closes out the flip in fine style for those inclined to ride this one into a full epic journey territory. yet more proof, as if any were needed, of guillaumes place at the very top of the mountain called house

if you were to cut neville watson he would bleed acid house, he would also quite likely knock you flat on your arse for having the temerity to wave a knife at him, but thats a whole other story. for his first wu contribution he ventures down the ethereal proto-house boulevard. jacking 707 patterns, a bouncing juno bassline and outer-space synth lines take you into the upper atmosphere for a glorious airborne joyride. as ever, neville manages to evoke those 85-89 feelings without ever sounding merely retro or like some kind of pastiche, something that many attempt but very few manage to pull off. over on side u apiento, the force behind the magisterially brilliant testpressing website, chips in with a heartfelt homage to the new beat sound. another testimony to the fact that a lower tempo doesnt have to mean diminished energy levels, the orange place simply oozes class from top to bottom. like some lost ancienne belgique classic it pounds and pumps along, building up the tension all the while until the quasi- eastern refrain lets loose half way thru and all of a sudden a mystic portal opens up in the space-time continuum that leads all the way to southwark street in late 87.

the partnership between artists john selway and dave turov spans not only across the atlantic, but it has also resulted in a series of successful colla-borations on their label csm. the debut release on the interpull imprint showcases their signature no-nonsense, dance? oriented techno. expanding on their previous work, >choo got it ep< carries with it a modern take of classic in? uences from chicago, detroit, and berlin. this release is marked by just as much stylistic skill as it is by their technical skill: both selway and turov put the highest production values possible into their releases. the a-side of the ep, >choo got it<, grooves hard with an upbeat rhythm and a bouncing bass line that refuses to let up. combining funky house elements and a raw driving techno pace, this is the kind of track that either gets you on the dancefloor doesnt let you off once you hear it go on. the b-side, >way to my heart<, presents a darker take on the ep with plentiful bass and restless energy. it provides a cavernous sound thats happy to shake your techno cathedral of choice

with the toughness of detroit house and the weirdness of chicago acid, scotch absolutely destroys all the dancefloors! richie hawtin newcomer allì borèm jumps headfirst into digital-age hedonism, with these two reduced, swinging cuts that have all the abandon and humour of a late night lock-in. this gentleman hails from rome, where he cut his teeth in recording studios across the city and as a dj has been responsible for plenty of discoteca mischief. expect these two playful, bleepy, bouncing tracks to give you much joy on the dancefloor.

this killer ep from samuel dan starts as it means to go on with the massive sample loops, and has been custom-made to keep those hands in the air. an infectious, bouncing bassline ebbs and flows through the track, while the tight percussion will keep those feet pounding the floor. octad and phiorio take the controls for the third track. their remix of wake up call is stripped down and funked up. like a prime larry levan cut, funk, disco and house collide but without the mix ever becoming cluttered. the elements are used sparingly and to devastating effect. last but not lease we get samuels original mix in which the brass instruments take centre stage, with trumpets heralding deep bass grooves. they are going to be rocking this one down in the treme. bring on the summer! to finish off this ep in style, heres the floor-filling back home. its immense builds and eminently catchy hooks are guaranteed to spread smiles across the dancefloor like a disease.
