Deep Space Orchestra have been carving out a very nice name for themselves over the past year, and alongside the likes of Cottam and KRL itʼ,,,s safe to say that they are helping to establish an exciting new movement of raw, Detroit-inspired house. The DIY approach is very much a part of their ethic, as is the underground feel and aesthetic which imbues their own Use Of Weapons label as well as their recent releases on similarly minded vinyl-orientated labels such as Foto and Kirk Degiorgioʼ,,,s legendary ART. The release we have here is perhaps their most refined music yet, showing a development in their production level on two tracks which are brimming with a warmth and fatness whilst retaining that critical raw edge which only a handful of the most exacting producers seem capable of. Lo Pan builds around a fat, bouncing bass line and a brilliantly lilting groove created by straight 808 hats and shuffling shakers. The feel keeps shifting throughout the song, sometimes superswung, sometimes straight and driving, all the while simple Detroit strings build and analogue arps are layered up building the tension in the arrangemen
