it does not happen that often any more that unreleased music from 40 years ago surfaces. even more unlikely it is that the songs put on tape are such treasures. the voltags were right at the forefront of the local washington dc new wave/punk scene of the late 1970s. influenced by kraftwerk, gary numan, the clash, and the b-52 s, they have released only one 45rpm single during their existence. but during the time span of not even 18 months, they had recorded enough material for an entire album but the songs remained in the can. this is the story of the voltags, a short-lived band which could have become famous and mentioned in the same breath as the aforementioned music legends of that era if their songs had been released back in the day. dive in and enjoy the sound of the voltags, it is truly special. we here at perfect toy are thrilled to be label to finally release their work and we sincerely hope that they are finally getting the appreciation they so richly deserve

route 8 back to his techno project q3a dropping some heavy grooving tracks! a year after his last release on delsin, the talented hungarian producer is back with four more cuts of techno and electro excellence, club tracks that ooze atmosphere and intriguing details. the nameless place kicks off with a tense and tangled techno track that is urgent and slick as is hurries on through damp underground caverns. the very end of you completely flips the script and is a slow motion bit of dub. with only sparse kick drums, the focus is on the cavernous pads that smear in huge arcs as watery droplets and heavenly chords add to the brain soothing effect. temple of retribution is back to techno, this time with loose, jumbled percussion and clipped drums cantering along at high speed. again it s roomy stuff with no real edge, the deva station drops into house mode, wriggling drums and distant vocal cries finished off with some classic detroit keys. it s a high tech, soulful track that closes out a diverse and devastating ep.

das best kept secret der szene steht kurz vor dem auffliegen: charles pasi, verboten gutaussehender franko-italiener, gerade mal in seinen dreißigern, hat eine stimme wie ein altmeister, schreibt abgehangene jazz/blues-songs mit dem zeug zum klassiker und kollaborierte schon mit kollegen von carla bruni bis archie shepp.

leonard cohen is indubitably one of the most legendary and successful singer-songwriters from the 60s. however, his label at first refused to release “various positions”, his seventh studio album, saying “look, leonard, we know you are great, but we dont know if you are any good.”
the success of the album proved them wrong, giving us one of his most beloved and arguably his most covered song “hallelujah”, along other gems such as “heart with no companion” and the gainsbourg-esque “dance me to the end of love”.

olim in latin can be used to indicate a time in the past or in the future. it can mean ‘once upon a time’ and ‘someday in the future’. a name and a project to try to move away from trends and genres, by taking inspiration from the past but at the same time leaving it, moving forward to shape a different and more narrative sound. the first attempt to do so is recursively: an 8 track album, opening with a sentence from bunny marrett sampled from an old documentary about st paul’s and the jamaican immigration in bristol during the 80’s. inspired by those intro words, recursively is a journey born from many years moving around, packing and unpacking suitcases, leaving villages, finding cities,leaving friends and finding more, emigrating, integrating. it’s a story about an entire generation trying to find the peace somewhere, somehow, sometimes by repeating the same steps in a loop of actions which seem to be the same but ultimately never are. it’s a soundtrack of those feelings and at the same time a message of hope to continue the journey through the faith that the meaning is the infinite journey itself. an infinite loop masterfully represented in carol rollo’s illustration. a story to be continued.

für diesen soundtrack wurde der komponist nicholas britell sowohl bei den oscar-verleihungen als auch bei den golden globes nominiert. und mit der verleihung des oscars für den besten film, wurde der film auch dieses jahr in den deutschen kinos gezeigt. der film erzählt in drei kapiteln die geschichte eines jungen, homosexuellen, afroamerikanischen mannes.
zwar beauftragte regisseur barry jenks nicholas britell mit der produktion eines orchestralen scores, forderte ihn aber gleichzeitig dazu auf die produktions-technik des chopped & screwed (wie im hip hop oft genutzt) auf passagen anzuwenden, so dass ein ungewöhnliches soundbild entstand.
