reissue - cass mccombs, singer-songwriter born in northern california in 1977 and currently residing somewhere in that state, is set to release wit’s end, his fifth-and-a-half album and third on domino, on april 11th. the result of two years recording in various homes and studios in california, new york, new jersey and chicago, wit’s end was produced by cass with ariel rechtshaid, with whom he also created catacombs.sounds that conjure the colors purple and black, this is his darkest record to date. it seems he is going deeper into the mania of a man buried alive inside his self-made catacombs, banging the stone walls, crying to be let out, and enjoying the quiet away from the outside world. however, he is not a man afraid of his own shadow, for in this environment of complete darkness, no shadows can be cast. this is a world of total feeling. here, words become a catalyst away from the slavery of arbitrary thought and toward feeling.

andreas gehm returns to the mathematics imprint for another round of sick cuts. this is voodoo opens with an eerie basement banger that is followed by all soul day, a deeper journey into his production. the return of ra kicks up the dark acid while the title track ends the ep with more tech.

it seems that dapayk used to listen to a lot of hip-hop when he was younger. his latest ep for still vor talent >let go< has got these influences written all over it. the title track starts out with a male vocal and some sounds that sound a little like scratching before things then quickly head into the direction of the club. the vocal by singer camara could not be more reminiscent of 80s house music and this track has got all the soul and groove of this era. beneath the delicate vocal and sound patterns lies a wonderfully simply staccato house groove that is sure to get everyone shuffling. on the flip things get a little more techy with >nneka<, a deeper and more melodic tech house glider that gently takes the listener towards a harmonic state of mind. beautifully arpeggiated pads, a warm soulful groove and some reverbed vocals make this one. last up is the sample-based tech-house stomper >upyo< featuring production partner jon hester. this is loop heaven: a pushy beat loop with many snares, reverse samples and an unexpected saxophone melody make this one the perfect changeover track from warm-up to peak-time. this ep shows dapayks skills to combine many musical influences into his unique still of tech-house music

rome, italy native fabio bacchini has been holding it down for underground house music with his label mind travel, but takes a step to the left to give us a hot little ep on transport. the roman disco ep is exactly what it says on the box: no fancy gimmicks here, this release is comprised of four solid disco house jams. the first tune >weekender< is a nice phase guitar loop jam with signature disco pulsating strings amidst the happy snapping snare beats and soul train vocal snips. next is my favorite cut, >money talks<, a straight up disco rhodes organ jam a la the crusaders. add some saxophone in there for points with ladies, and you have yourself a jam. on the flip we have >in the mood< is takes the mood a bit deeper with a nice n spacey groove amidst a rhythm heavy beat. throw some synth strings and keys riffs in there for good measure and there you have it... disco house. sometimes stays within the same formula but brings a more pulsating sound that pushes the music. the tune is still deep and groovy as the ep winds down...

to kick-start the fina campaign we literally hunted high and low to find an artist and sound that we felt would represent us and give a statement of intent. what we didnt expect was for this search to take us south of the equator and into to the deep southern hemisphere. this is not the first place that you would expect to hear warm, deep underground house but this is exactly what you get with the melbourne based mic newman. and thinking about it, it doesnt get warmer or deeper than melbourne does it? mic is a young producer who we believe is destined for greatness. at the age of 29, hes already had a string of underground smashes on labels such as murmur, tsuba, dirt crew, freerange, and now for fina records. the intriguingly named live east, die young ep (mic riffing on his time spent living in london) sees what mic doing what he does best and demonstrates why his future is so bright. on die young, the tougher a-side, mic keeps the beats solid, and the groove tight and hypnotic, while the smooth chord stabs get right under your skin. prolonged foot tapping ensues. on the flip side, live east, mic takes it a little deeper with ever so subtle disco touches. the vocal sample asks what your name is and to take off your jacket as if to welcome you to a very messy after hours on this mcde-esque low-slung house groove. on remix duty, the on-form jacques renault and marcos cabral aka runaway, lift the track out of the south hemisphere and take it in a north easterly direction all the way to the caribbean – adding plenty of steel drums and pads on their interpretation of live east
