zackey force funk was born into this wild world in tucson, az in 1974. in and out of prison since the age of 17, zff began producing on pirated software his brother gave to him once he had given up a life of crime to focus on writing tunes and raising his family. first discovered by kutmah back in the golden era of myspace, zackey’s signature “force funk sound” swiftly grabbed the attention of a number of formidable producers. as these tunes were scattered across various labels, finding their homes on their respective collaborator’s projects, zff continued to hone his style, delving deeper into the psychedelic future funk realm of which he has created for himself. the fruits of his discipline all add up to “electron don” hnr52 a 15-track collection of early productions that serves as the initial transmission of a fantastical mind that has many more stories to tell. “electron don” gathers together various unreleased and classic tracks recorded by zackey force funk circa 2009-2011 in tucson, az. included here are a treasure-trove of classic productions by the electron don himself, as well as tracks by luminaries salva, mike gao, lorn, jellphonic, cupp cave, crimekillz, mark lowe and paolo xz.

la vie en rose commences its 2016 campaign with a tight little package from the delirious ibiza dwelling duo, acid mondays. the british lads are well known for their ability to concoct deadly dance floor weaponary for labels such as rumors, illusion, one records and 2020vision among others and now they are back on the french label with two hot new tracks plus a remix from greek grafter john dimas.

2015 brought the trilogy of the dancer to ressort. now the labels core artists each remix their tracks in circles. while all of them aim for the dancefloor, ressorts core artists could not sound more diverse. ekserd and border one aim for the raw, the groovy and the pure while array access and glos lose themselves more and more in sound design and dreaminess. since the many aspects of art and music form a cycle of ying and yang, each artist shows the other an interpretation of what he might have missed before. be it a complete stomper or a light absorbing epos, a deep and groovy house and techno hybrid or a journey into the depths of space every artist made one of the well known tracks released on previous eps his own. it is a very colourful package that bares every moment the label tried to cover in it s series before.

as the d edge label clocks up release number 24, it turns to the phil hinter ensemble for a fantastic three track package that is filled with fresh house vibes. phil hinter ensemble is a joint project by phil s main pillars philogresz and german simon hinter. they have ties with labels like their own phil, love unlimited vibes and of course d-edge. previous eps have gone down well around the world and simon hinter s smart grooves and sample based fill-ins blends with the wombastic bass and shivering synth lines of philogresz perfectly. up first is the owl, a squelchy, synthetic house track with lively drums and chords and magical trumpets all making for a party starting track. it is perfectly arranged and expertly musical, unlike much of today s plastic and sample heavy sounds. in the air then gets even more playful with glossy synth stabs, rumbling bass and diva vocals all bouncing along in a charismatic style that is full of colour. struggle then gets intimate and final with scurrying little percussive sounds, burst of afro vocal, down low sine waves and icy snares all making for a perfectly seductive minimal techno brew

zoo lab is proud to present the first vinyl and for this, they have decided to focus on the italian duo dubfluss which have already released in labels like moan, serkal and bla bla music, yoruba grooves and more. -sumobooth- and -falser lullaby- reflect their typical minimal dub style, rich of synth, variations and vocals. two tracks are finely worked to have a great impact in the dancefloor. near them, there are two very characteristic remixers who have proposed their own versions of -sumobooth-: arado ( desolat-moon harbour ) with a strong techno version played around the world, from india to germany, and neverdogs (moan-music on), with a classic tech style version played during music on parties at amnesia ibiza.

myles serge is a dj, musician and recording artist who has released on a vast swathe of labels that as well as metamorphic, also includes ferox, caduceus, knotweed, ilian tape, sweatshop, night drive music, thema, pushmaster disc and his own imprints (ms), re(form), space, (ms), and dosed recordings. he describes himself as a “reclusive perfectionist”, whose haunting production sound reflects influences from early detroit and chicago electronic music. but myles has a style of his own that blurs the lines between techno and house

bxentric ends the year with a second release ‘patch valley’ on his newly launched label nanda records, continuing on from the ‘chrome’ ep released in july this year. coming from a dj background and having had successful releases on esteemed labels eskimo recordings and glasgow underground, bxentric is now focussing on his production with an eye on the underground. more releases are in the pipeline from him on nanda records.

monoloc makes his debut on hotflush recordings, the labels first release of 2016. following a recent single on innervisions and an appearance on life & death, his latest offering another thing marks a departure into more atmospheric soundscapes. the murky grandeur of the title track lends itself to moody textures that build in narrative, walking a knife-edge between ndustrial techno and minimalist dub. trysome conjures the setting of a dilapidated warehouse rave at 5am, while makeless, with its low-slung percussive elements draped over misty pads and imposing bass, draws the listener further into monolocs wormhole.

q3a is a new alias of route 8, a producer who has credits on labels like lobster theremin and nous as well as black venison. now the producer serves up a sumptuous four track ep, space chamber, on the delsin label and it touches on many different styles with equally great results. lost souls is first and is an expansive bit of well driven deep house with rich synths and cavernous innards that really suck you in. next up is another serenely crafted bit of atmospheric house with dusty drums and lose hits all backed with heavenly pads and retro bass. the first of the b-side tracks is a chunky acid kicker with angelic vocals drifting up top as a controlled 303 line rips up the foreground. spaced out and deep, driving yet emotive, it is a moving bit of club music before the b2 trips you out on a silvery electro tip with its icy lines and slap-funk snares. overall, this is an expansive and perfectly formed ep and comes with a sleeve by boris tellegen.

kensuke fukushima is an established name in the music industry, with releases on wax in a handful of different labels. his astonishing work on “get in” proves that fukushima’s vision is wide and obeys no standards, resulting in this unique piece of music that we proudly present. besides the dub version from fukushima, this edition also counts with two remixes.
through the hands of andy book, the label owner, we receive this clubby interpretation, full of raw elements and fantastic twist in the melody of the original track. her joys, delivers a jazzy approach to fukushima’s track, making good use of acoustic percussion.
as in the first release, this one will be strictly limited to 300 copies. no repress.

2015 has been a busy year for soul intent. relocating from nottingham to bromley, releasing -the fruit club ep- on lossless in march, his -wanna fight ep- dropped on klute s commercial suicide in august, the sci-fi themed -replicant- marked lossless music s first digital only release in october and his -late night sleaze ep- has been awarded mixmag s dnb tune of the month (nov 15 issue). on top of all this alex is about to launch two (yes two!!) sub-labels for lossless music. the first of these is exkursions. exkursions will cater for the deeper, more experimental side of dnb & electronic music. though concentrating it s tempo focus around the 170 mark exkursions will also be taking explorations down into slower soundscapes. the first release is a 3 tracker from soul intent and the tracks have already turned the heads of respected selectors including doc scott, presha, loxy and logistics. we won t say much for than that, we ll let the music do the talking.

the last few years has seen parris make a name for himself across a number of scenes, to the extent he is just as likely to be found spinning records for butterz as he is putting records out on berceuse heroique. here at idle hands we first touched base with parris many moons ago when he bought copies of the first release on his soundman chronicles label into our shop. as it is one of our favourite labels we were intrigued to hear what he would come up with as producer himself. needless to say we were impressed. presented here are two tracks that perfectly reflect his sound and our own a nod to techno here, a weighty bass line there, a love of reverb everywhere and all with a view to being played in dark rooms late at night. the 12 inch of burr and blue is idle hands last release of 2015 and we think it rounds off nicely what has been a great year for the label.

nylon trax the brooklyn born seattle-based label, lead by new yorker jaymz nylon has returned to its vinyl roots with the release of a four track ep. archv 1 features interstellar tunes from the catacombs of nylon trax extensive catalogue featured talents on this ep are the vocalist darrius willrich, leandro p. feat. anthony poteat, dj qu, dj jus-ed, zulus at work, m. carporale and nylon himself. traversing between all corners of the nylon trax diaspora, the club-ready archv 1 leaves no rock unturned. proving the perfect introduction to those unfamiliar with the labels hyper-global sound, nylon trax return to vinyl is nothing short of timely.

straight out of the ukraine comes io (mulen) aka aleksandr voznichenko, a man whose back catalogue includes releases on labels such as rejected, eklectisch and area remote to name but a few. now he links up with one of paris’ premier labels, run by one of paris’ premier crews – apollonia. with one solid track and a classy remix from danish young gun malin génie, this is another surefire winner from apollonia. ‘to the unknown’ kicks things off with a steady build up. shrouded in a hazy mist it draws you to its understated groove, io turns in a very considered production that evolves at a slow yet utterly gripping pace. the energy levels rise like the tide of the ocean, engulfing you before you know it. io’s dexterity and cunning ability to keep the listener engaged manifests itself here, bomb! on the flip side, malin genie steps in to give ‘to the unknown’ a new lick of paint and what we get is a jazzy, minimal rework with a jaunty skip in its step and a wicked bassline.

its arguably the labels biggest remix package since duke dumont and ewan pearson remixed love sublime. the pete tong approved andre hommen - also the creative producer and label manager of dennis ferrers objektivity imprint - has remixed the walk on the a-side. a deep, minimalistic beat drives his remix and a smart breakdown introduces the melody from tensnakes original, pushing all the original elements to higher heights. running back label boss gerd jansons keep on talking raw mix is set against powerful drums and acid-tinged synths, with a piano-led breakdown echoing the original melody. the panorama bar resident and celebrated producer delivers a unique cut formed of several retro influences to provide a cool new twist on tensnakes upbeat original. the vinyl release also includes gerds beats-only version in the gerd janson raw beats mix

william thurman aka royer follows up two astounding releases for material image with a deep, curdling ep of wandering house for lobster theremin. picking up where his last excursions left off, collectively finds royer on typically dreamy form, taking micro-thought experiments and carving them into evolving, metamorphic journeys that capture as much the ambience of late night paris as the spirit of us house music. to even the balance, german newcomer trp fires up the cannons for a tough, bouncing remix on the b2. crackling and chugging with dust-coated drums and pads, this is a serious floor-banging rework right here. original artwork comes from royer himself, with full artwork matte sleeve, warm red centre labels and a mind-bending b&w a4 insert.

after releasing a beautiful debut 12inch last year on antinote, the man behind the visual identity of the parisian imprint makes an impressive come-back on the labels catalogue with life goes on if you are lucky. while listening to it for the first time, we can already imagine the long nightly conversations held between nico motte and his machines that gave birth to this album – the man trying to learn from the machines their most secret sounds. tip!
