one of the holy grail of the minimal synth and one of the most obscure musical projects ever produced in italy is finally reissued on mannequin records. originally released in 1981 by broadbean records, a sub-label of lm records, flo & andrew only release take suicide was home-recorded and home-mixed by the duo in bologna, using early drum machines like the boss dr-55 and the korg kr-55, analog synthesizers, guitar, saxophone, tape loops. flo & andrew music is truly unique and exemplifies the fact that limitation can be the perfect source for creativity. the title-track and to committ suicid’ travel through contort and nervous synth sounds and loops, taking somehow inspiration from the no wave heroes, while japanese girls is nothing less than a beautiful minimal electronics track in the mythology of the futuristic rise of japanese country. recently (re)discovered, ‘take suicide’ is a milestone of the european minimal synth singles and is not really a coincidence that a young generations of producers take it as inspiration (you can see take suicide floating in the tracklist of artists as helena hauff and ngly). another must have in your collection / record bag! mastering by ruud 66.

ondon-based duo jamka return with inter alia, the latest evidence of their patient, intimate relationship with their analogue machines. from the start there’s a sense of event – we encounter clear, interlaced electronic textures, powerful analogue drones and well-placed beats. the tracks aren’t soundscapes so much as fertile electronic soundfields. patemp continuously expands in an incredibly subtle but powerful way and shows that jamka’s technical skills don’t preclude an emotional touch. on the tight and minimal anazmo, the coiled energy bears traces of minimal techno and radical electronica, but it’s beyond either of these. while the album passes quickly, it’s full of detail and the thoughtfulness and craft that have gone into it are evident. dwa offers the chance to appreciate the flow and the sheen of its analogue textures – the modernist romance of the power line hum and its promise of technological-cultural progress. jamka are known for their dynamic live performances and this energy is almost tangible on derazor. the stately igora is a strong, bold close to the album, offering surprises right till the end. the sharp, metallic details ripple through the mix and an anthemic sequence shines through. inter alia makes clear that jamka are worthy inheritors of slovakia’s proud late modernist traditions of radical architecture and electronic music. this is a work of craft that demands respect and repeated listening.

mamie s records is a record-label curated by la mamie s that represents electronic music artists since 2016. based in paris and founded in 2007, the mamie s crew is collecting vinyls since their young age. they met some musicians along the way and they would like to share with you their crushes. the first one is kodäma... kodäma is a music duo formed in 2014 by kiala ogawa (singer and composer originally from japan and congo) and by t-time (bassist and composer). the word --kodama--, meaning --echo-- in japanese, also refers to spirits conveyed by trees and forests. according to the legends, these spirits are responsible for the the phenomenon in which the mountains echo. kodäma’s universe is very linked to kiala’s cultural sphere with, as a major source of inspiration, her childhood’s memories from the japanese countryside. kodäma is a subtle combination of electronic and acoustic sounds with kiala’s captivating voice, blending english and japanese. from this mixture of sounds emerges a spiritual, experimental music marked by their own neo soul groove

savage grounds return to lux rec for the third time, with their third record. atrocities comes after unpleasant music for unpleasant people, released in 2015, and over fences, 2014. it is, as much as the previous 2, the result of investigations in music, live, composed with a minimum amount of instruments. the duo, comprised of cco and daniele cosmo, worked with a roland 606, a roland 909 and a modular synthesiser. experimenting with fm modulation and loose sequences. the result is concrete noise, anger, ghostly voices, and above all, the sheer conscience of human failures. atrocities marks number 30 in the lux rec catalogue. it comes as a 12inch + 7inch package.

last release of the year for the berlin based collective slow life. a great pack of dancefloor killers by the british duo 100 hz, and the usual suspect saverio celestri. the veteran couple formed by lee renacre and james chapman showcase their classic sound with two unreleased tracks from the vaults, and the talented italian dj/producer adds two of his latest productions, where displays his matured understanding of playful but emotional techno.

having opened feel my bicep up for the first time with their previous 12” from new zealand duo sandboards, bicep now welcome another new signing into the fold in the form of brassica. in an extension of a bond established on a civil music record released back in may of 2016 which saw bicep remix tears i cant afford brassica presents his time tunnel ep, a rich and varied 4-track record spanning acid, breaks and balmy house music. also included in the package is an edit from the sphinx and a remix from mysterious hardware fiend roy of the ravers who follows up 12inches on acid waxa and the centrifuge with a tough, tumbling take on the title track that caps off another solid addition to the irish dou s evolving imprint.

rare brazil album made available again through mr bongo, incl. voce abuso & kabaluere. nice! a truly fantastic record that sounds the way it looks – psychedelic rock, samba-funk and tripped out mpb. features kabaluere as sampled by marcelo d2 on his hit qual e. arranged by rogerio duprat, featuring legendary guitarist lanny gordin. antonio carlos & jocafi were a very successful and famous brazilian writing duo, born in bahia. they worked with the likes of wilson simonal, rosinha de valença, trio mocotó, milton banana, toquinho and more. originally released on rca brazil in 1971, this was the duos debut lp. two versions of the album cover exist in brazil – this, the psyched-out, burnt out version, and a much less exciting photograph of the chaps, pressed to include the single desacato which became a popular hit in brazil and several european countries.

following on from 2015 s mammoth release, work them records call in flexxseal boss christopher joseph, parisian duo behzad & amarou and label founder spencer parker to remix caiazzo the dredge ep. punchy kicks and eerie drones initiate christopher josephs recreation of lowbrow as numerous dusky atmospherics ebb in and out of the mix. next up, renowned concrete paris residents behzad & amarou deliver a mesmerising slice of techno with intricate percussion, floating pads and metallic aesthetics in their remix of dredge. on the b-side, work thems spencer parker presents two versions of refraction that emphasise ample low-end, sinister whirrs and an undulating synth that will continue to shake clubs throughout the future.

the dj/production duo from munich back with four tracks full of bass-heavy excursions into hybrid forms of club music close to grime, dancehall, dub, techno and the yet unnamed territory in between their natural habitat. lead single and first track of the ep is copper and lead, which features london city warlord riko dan of roll deep fame, spitting dangerous lyrics on a bashment/grimeriddim. following this is blurred vision, a low end monster named after their gigantic soundsystem event series, exploring the middle ground between dub and the technoleaning 4x4 universe. up next is killer, a song with warrior queen from jamaica, who prepares for a dancehall dub war on a 808-heavy beat straight from miami,err, munich. topping the ep off is siren riddim, an instrumental uptempo bomb for the apocalypse club gang and all the gunfinger crew.

nested structure is the first great circles release from artists outside of philadelphia. thrive are tetsuya yoshida and hitoshi kojima. they both grew up in the north kanto area of japan. they first met at the club run by tetsuya yoshida called sound a base nest, which is known as having the best sound system in the north kanto area. in 2007, the duo started their dj / producing unit thrive. previous releases have included a split 12inch with keia yano for japanese label struct, and recent solo releases by hitoshi for always human tapes and for his own label ambivalent deviation. this record almost didnt happen! — tetsuya and hitoshi were picking up great circles records in japan and, having periodically communicated with each other about music, they sent us the struct 12inch to check out. while cleaning out the back of the car a few months later, the presumably empty record mailer was about to land in the recycle bin when we fortunately discovered a demo cd of unreleased thrive material inside. we drove around listening to it and week later we agreed to release a 12inch. the music on the nested structure 12inch is dark, foreboding, even outwardly threatening. its hypnotic, textural and rhythmically complex.

the second release on arcing seas by label heads cassegrain. this new material presents the duos very individual approach to tonality within the techno framework, combined with a subtle tribal influence. maintaining their aim, they keep things exciting for the club as well as sonically. label info: arcing seas is an anagram of cassegrain. it started out as a secret alias, releasing a couple eps on our circula sound. the secret was less well kept after the duo appeared at berghain under this name. a year later, after deciding to start a label, it finally made sense to bring the two together.

quality house label fina records are back with their next carefully curated ep of 2016. this one comes from the choice house duo of rob glassett and sam fussell aka homepark, who serve up four more of their finely crafted cuts. over the last six years, homepark have slowly but surely built up a classy discography that takes in smooth and seductive deep house that has real drive. it has come on labels like ornate music and chez damiers courtesy of balance recordings, and always marries a classic sense of house history with fresh new perspectives for both head and heel.

berlin-cologne based duo atlantik is well known for incredible ravish live sets. people go ballistic! georg and clemens played their set more than three years ago on one of the parties and everybody instantly felt in love with it. atlantik has got a residency at the world famous sisyphos berlin where they set up their impressing analog machine park on a regular basis. the snö ep contains two original tracks plus a crispy remix by feines tier friend schlepp geist.

for its 25th release kiev-based label artreform invited exceptional artists - legendary moscow electronic duo scsi-9. for artreform anton kubikov and maxim milyutenko prepared the new track in their recognizable styles of groovy, meticulously arranged tech-house with a myriad of nuances. trombone groove ep promises to become a perfect gift for all who loves scsi-9’s music since their iconic releases on famous label kompakt and their own pro-tez.

the duo gravity disturbance opens with the first reference of his newly founded label ritual waves, where they intend to worship the electronics from his serious, dark and hypnotic perspective. his first proposal “unsynchronized movement” has three tracks created in 2014 (the year in which this formation is born) and representing the mutation that has been his personal vision of techno, without renouncing its essence purely underground. gravity disturbance finds its place in the production and makes the leap to the scene, where they have much to contribute.
