church label boss seb wildblood continues his catalogue with sw004. the release follows wildblood’s much sought after cassette from earlier this year (sw004) which featured three of the four tracks on the record, whilst the new addition doesn’t deviate far from the sw playbook. ‘every body looks good at the restaurant’ offers up meandering sax melodies, warm jazzy pads & soft percussive layers amidst an intriguing monologue.

raw machine funk from an intergalactic mind – hakim murphy brings us two contrasting sides of classic analog jams, chicago style. on the a-side, ‘toms from space’ and ‘bgstyle’ both have a melodic nostalgia, the former with pads and drum accents that are almost conversational, the latter’s ringing synth lines cleaving more to the jamal moss school of machines-gone-wild, but still in an introspective mood. the b-side is a heavier affair, ‘stompsb’ coming at you with a barrage of snares, claps and toms that will tickle the more adventurous dancers out there. by ’tf3_2’ the machines are in pure revolt, battery draining and sounds escaping in fits and starts – avant-garde chicago house, no questions asked.

bar musica is a brand new label that promises to inject plenty of charm and originality into the underground house and techno world. the first release kicked up quite a storm from label owner bartolomeo, and the second release features a trio of great originals by j paraguai, with a remix from long time electronic talent bruno pronsato. rumba is up first and is a full fat, corrugated house track with tribal percussion, punchy drums that swing down low and afro vocals. it is a dynamite groove with roughshod tin pot hits that are carefully treated and bring a lovably wild side to the track. thesoundsays founder and berlin based new yorker bruno pronsato has been on the fringes of the underground for more than a decade with inventive eps and lps on labels like hello? repeat and bosconi. his remix is stripped back to a forceful and rubbery techno groove. blistered synths rip up the middle and spooky voices, trippy effects and manic loops all make it a freaky late night or after-hours tune that will send floors wild. ble is then another j paraguai, and this one is again unhinged and urgent, with intense synths exploding above shuffling, tightly knotted minimal drums and sweeping pads. it’s pure wtf music for brave djs and dancers and is a truly original production. then last original atles is rugged and impactful in the way in combines house and techno into new ideas. it is stripped back to little chopped loops that bury deep in your brain and have you in a trance in no time. as such, it rounds out a fine ep and keeps this exciting new label going off in great style.

liverpool is frankie goes to hollywood’s second and last studio album, released in october 1986. it would be the band’s final album of all-new material, and lead singer holly johnson would leave the band following the corresponding world tour.

janette jnett pitruzzello is considered something of a legend in her home city of melbourne, where she’s been djing for well over two decades. here, she delivers her debut solo ep, featuring a quartet of tracks co-produced by maurice fulton. the latter also delivers a solo mix of opener reflection, which adds a little leftfield disco sparkle and percussive sweatiness to an otherwise organ-heavy deep house groove. theres a similarly cheery, funky and disco-tinged feel to the rolling, cut-up house goodness of swangzipani. elsewhere, the duo gets a little stranger in pursuit of dancefloor thrills bubbles away is deliciously dark, wonky and intergalactic, while judge not wanders off into head-nodding, instrumental hip-hop territory.

french label d3 elements returns to chicago for its next ep, this time looking to the assured house talents of hakim murphy for three tracks of raw, dense grooves right from the heart of the windy city. opener boxbeat is a curious, freaky jam with bobbing percussive hits, wonky, pixel thin synth lines and free roaming pads that wrap the whole thing in a nice sense of spaced-out serenity. taste o rainbow has a much more firmly planted kick drum that pounds away uninterrupted below a free flowing brew of modulate synth sounds. it s expertly reduced and masterfully reserved and is sure to send dance floors wild as a result. the flipside cut freshness has pinging drums and a big, frazzled bass line as slithering chords rain down the face. musical yet jacking, cosmic yet propulsive, it is a perfectly contemporary chicago house sound that rounds out a fine ep from one of the best in the game.

dualshock present their first 12- ep, jungle on resopal. -jungle- features three fresh berlin house sounds and one digital bonus. -wild jungle- kicks off the vinyl and initially drops the energy before exploding with mediterranean life and dubby melodies included for good measure. -marshmellow- then pushes us back into the club as a techy rhythm and repeated vocal hook draw us to the floor while -trust- twist offers itself in the form of a synth loop that lends an exotic edge. spicy and addictive.

andre kronerts seminal exu ep gets a comprehensive rework from some of the most outstanding on the scene. tense and sinister new cuts from kronert introduce both sides of the release, whilst the label calls upon remixes from berlin mainstays efdemin and ed davenport, as well as hollands finest export juan sanchez, plus stockholm ltd label boss par grindvik alongside fellow swede peder mannerfelt.

retaining the slurred vocal of the original, efdemin layers thundering effects over chasmic bass in his mix of into the zone, which saw heavy rotation last year. meanwhile davenport brings a wild yet streamlined intensity to c.o.d.e.2.
side b sees grindvik team up with mannerfelt to provide a joint interpretation of into the zone, which they manipulate into a peak-time epic, with a soaring melody over hammering toms. finally, juan sanchez channels funk through roll the dice with a twitchy, groove-laden rework.

the spirit of exu is made physical once again via 12 inches and 27 minutes of wax.

deep dark industrial ambient. a slowly evolving soundscape with boiling buzzing sounds, resonating through the dark world.the berserk was perhaps one of the world s best fighters, which in old norse time sworn allegiance to the norse god odin. before a battle berserkers excited each other up and occurred in bearskin or wolf skin, hence the word berserk. in the beginning of the battle they performed exceptionally talented, indifferent battlers, but in close combat they fell into berserk. then they howled like wild beasts, probably to frighten the enemy and incite their comrades and themselves, and then get into rages. a berserk in battle were said not to bother about any injuries, and was therefore until the enemy, or they died.

where to now? records are proud to present beatrice dillons follow up release to the widely well received * blues dances*. this three track 12 inch sees beatrice step things up a gear in terms of intricacy, experimenting wildly to add to her already astute palette of timbre and rhythm. face a leads the record with the unmistakable skronk of saxophone cutting and jamming over the skeletal pulse of beatrices signature dubbed out techno landscape. initially the inclusion of saxophone acts as an aural abstraction or diversion to extract a little freedom from the pumping cavern of dark dub techno atmosphere punctuated with the mechanical juddering saw-bass, but as the piece develops and we become deep into the groove the inclusion of wild sax snorts trips us up and become the focus itself as new levels of complex melodic and rhythmic detail become apparent within this otherwise structurally obedient space. taking its cues from rabih beaini, miles davis * big fun* era, dresvn and keith hudson, undoubtably face a is a compelling, complex trip… heads down but arms flailing. face b continues the theme but takes the listener far deeper into the cavern. here the concern is more the effects of space within song, a moment where beatrice allows herself to move away from the floor to find a little more room for playful experimentation. the saxophone is further treated with a plethora of effects to compliment the array of dub signals that scatter and skip around the basin. the record closes with sonnier (walk in the light) which strangely somehow manages to feel jazzier in its components, even in comparison to a pair of tracks riffing on a manipulated free-jazz sax part. it sounds strangely unsure of its world, adding to this whole loosely slung, loping feel which somehow fits amongst the stern, brooding, and efficient synth play. beatrice masterfully manages to create a piece here that grows in intensity without ever increasing in pace or texture, every drop is intended to stir the listener a little more than the last. theres a sense throughout all the pieces of having rhythm imposed or even inflicted upon the listener but this is certainly not a conflict of ideas… there is optimism, harmony and above all - wild groove nestled within beatrices world of mutant shuffle.

you might have heard of happa by now. hes the leeds native who first burst onto the electronic scene in 2013 with his blistering 12inch-single beat of the drum/ bring it back, the wildly precocious teenager (also known as samir alikhanizadeh) who won instant fans in the likes of mary anne hobbs, loefah and even four tet, the one who scorched a trail with his dark, bass-heavy sledgehammer house, which sounds quite unlike anything else out there right now.

for centuries, young wild boars have been denied of their right to gather freely and fall in love. their military based rituals were designated to reinforce twisted ethical principles in the minds of the followers and were the only social interaction allowed. a group of young infidels finally stopped fighting the urge and created a new ritual based on dancing, called lambada. this spiritual journey awoke the suppressed spirit of the wild boar and revealed the sincerely beautiful nature of this noble animal. sadly, lambada soon became known as the forbidden dance and all its partakers were persecuted. to this day, lambada remains an underground ritual and the legalize lambada crew is on a quest to revive it by throwing disco parties and pressing undercover vinyl. true infidels in the likes of riccio and mikeburns are sending us the first manifest!

momomo is morgan garralon, resident of bordeaux in south west france. the dard dart ep comes on like early audion, spectral sound, plastikman or jeff samuel but french and wilder. the detail is in the destruction. momomo began with an interest in classical music before discovering electronic music in particular ambient music. from then, he ventured into industrial techno. the music he now creates lies somewhere between these two intensities: ambient and industrial. in his own words momomo describes his sound as dark-waved deep techno

pablo and shoey return just in time for festival season with 4 new bits for the front of your box. e-man groove is a massive disco-rock jam that could have been sprung from the minds of dem idjut boys, with sympathy for the devil style percussion and wild guitar riffing driving the whole thing. blazing sunshine, meanwhile, is a funky, hammond organ led version of let the sunshine in, a guaranteed hands in the air moment when dropped at the right time. disco treat is more of a modern floor-burner, closer to straight production edit with a bouncing bassline and all manner of whacked out disco sounds in the mix, not to mention breakdowns for days. rounding off the package is some classic funky soul breaks - the lads tear a chunk off bettye lavettes soul tambourine to make play it, break it on down! as sampled on stezos golden era hip hop rocker to the max.
