the original version is nothing short of a classic, but its as if the song had never been invited to a louie vega post-midnight global extravaganza. was the song not aware that spellbound dancing and high bpms were the standard for house music? normally, such a blaring disregard for nightlife decorum would relegate a song to the pits of sonic hell, but we’re talking about george clinton here! the original opens up with a g-funk groove that screams westside and lowriders. the listener is then blessed with clinton as he adds his sage, soulful and pimpadelic vocals, complemented by funkadelic singers asking him about the pains of the funk. the semblance of a beat that could drive the dancefloor into the morning hours is there, but in no way has it blossomed into its full glory. enter louie vega.

motor city. the home of hi-tek soul. or simply, the origin. just a few of the names with which to descibe a city in the heart of america that has the power to captivate ones imagination. in the early 20th century it revolutionized transport, ushered in an age of previously unknown mobility and became the automotive capital of the world. during the 60s it gave us motown, one of the most influential r&b and soul record labels to ever exist. and, before the turn of the millennium, it would bring forth another musical revolution: the one called techno music. to abstract division, the city of detroit and its artists are a major source of inspiration. as such, they decided their newest metropolis ep was to be an hommage, a means of giving back. this special package includes an original track that keeps close to the spirit of melodic, rhythmic, minimalism detroit is known for. it also features three very special remixes by close friends oscar mulero - under his trolley route alias (which he hasnt released music under since 2010) - function, who ups the darker ante and marcel fengler who infuses it with his trademark berlin funk.

fumiya tanaka s double-tracker >beautiful town< was fully inspired by its cover artwork: a set of carefully selected old pictures with a layer of masterful signature paintings by romanian artist and fine-arts student bonjour bonsoir. a-sides >abacus avenue< is the ep’s most dense and eerie side. an addictive piece that utterly succeeds in sucking you right in like a vortex would. the locomotive bassline serves its purpose of movement in a strong loopy groove, while the pads and poltergeist y sounds reformat our heads with an inability for space-time tracking. the otherside of this town, >himegami marathon<, is another mysteriously intricate work. its a microcosm of grooves, sinister details and voices locked in a tight groove built on a single bass stab and a flowing, never-ending set of wet claps. a piano kicks in at key points, alongside percussive elements, reminding us that this town is alive.

for the past few years, young denmark vessey has been releasing a series of albums, both as a leader of carious groups and as a sideman in various others, which definitely mark him as one of the most exciting young players in music. vessey’s last album prior to this (2013’s cult classic) employed scud one for the rhythm section. vessey, in his own playing suggest that he may be forging a link between the new mainstream and prior innovations. it is to vessey’s credit that this album achieves a surprising degree of unity. there is little of the haphazard feeling that too often arrends blowing sessions by pick-up bands. it would be easier to mistake this for a group which works regularly. part of that is simply because vessey is a part of the new mainstream, the part that is seeking beyond the accepted common language to find ways of extending it. the rest is because of vessey’s unusual talent.

following the massive double pack compilation ‘eight wigglin ways to die’, earwiggle return with the debut of a fresh artist, faetch. although a new name on the scene, faetch s advanced take on harder edged techno is far from the work of a rookie it would seem. four tearing club tracks here that contain all the ingredients needed to move the party into another dimension: firing rhythms, strange sampling, manic synth programming, unique sound design... we could keep going. faetch 1 is simply a corker and strong addition to the earwiggle catalogue.

giant records is the new label from grant dell, a man that has been at the forefront of the tech-house scene for over 15 years and has amassed a truly enviable back catalogue of releases. giant s first release is from mark allister, whose skill for crafting a proper old school tech-house groove on -not going back- is more than matched by his talent for laying down vocals. complementing this original, jay tripwire turns in a self-styled marimba machine redux, whilst label head grant dell chooses to focus on allister s vocal for a remix that possesses keys that wouldn t sound out of place on a kraftwerk track. supported by mr g, doc martin, eddie richards, john digweed, richie hawtin

san francisco/paris-based label spring theory is back with its fourth release. called sweet bitter love, it s a four track ep of manic sample-driven house from keita sano, a japanese producer who s been on a roll lately with releases for like-minded imprints discos capablanca, mister saturday night, and strictly groove recordings. sweet bitter love kicks off with the tripped-out flair of -once i found a diamond.- it s an uplifiting bongo-led cut with dubby melodics that sound like the kind of thing sleeping bag records would have put out in the early 80s. jacques renault provides a leaner peak-time version — complete with hard-hitting snares and growling bass — via his -once i found a diamond (jacques renault trouble funk remix).- things take a turn for the delightfully weird on the ep s namesake -sweet bitter love.- starting like a straightforward house cut, it explodes into a psychedelic collage of spaghetti western guitars, tribal calls, displaced jazz fills, and other forms of cleverly sampled soundtrack exotica. the release wraps up with yet another curveball on -bouzouk.- here sano lays out a subwoofer-knocking ny garage house rhythm that takes a left turn with frenzied bouzouki playing charting arpeggios through a haze of echoing foreign voices. taken as a whole, sweet bitter love is that rare idiosyncratic bomb of an ep that will keep your dancers moving and your trainspotters guessing — in other words, it s spring theory through and through.

to release a new piece of music, it would seem, is to enter a competition for approval and appearances: who will play that track and how many will follow. likes. clicks. transient signs of appreciation, or perhaps just vague nods of confirmation. but what about all those values inherent in music that just cant be quantified? if merely one single person would listen to these songs and find herself or himself genuinely moved by them, wouldnt it be worth it? we think so. we really do.

the gift is a series dj house shoes started to spotlight under the radar producers. pressed in a limited edition of 300 copies on 180 gram vinyl. raj mahal was a colleague of house shoes in the detroit hip-hop scene in the 1990s, a scene he joined just about the time fantastic volume one was recorded (1996). when he moved to chicago and refined his style, there was widespread talk that raj would follow in the footseps of other detroit alumni by releasing a proper album. that album has finally come.

secretsundaze 017 comes from london based producer endian. releasing just 2 eps in a few years on nonplus and electric minds, endian has nevertheless managed to to turn the heads of the likes of steffi who used one of his tracks for her panorama bar compilation and boddika who also licensed a track for a various artists ep. sounding like a producer far more experienced than the two releases would indicate, it came as no surprise that this is far from the the output of a novice but the seasoned veteran george levings aka commix (metalheadz).

available on vinyl (limited to 200 copies, no repress). release number eight on telefonplan is an all family affair. joining mad mats & toolis team of artists is swedish producer wiz andreas saag. mr saag has taken the leap from local talk and now makes his debut on telefonplan. opening track justice is dark, deep and with a sumptuous bass to sink your teeth into. it is rough and punchy with a clever vocal sample that almost works like a chant. justice comes in two versions, for those of you who like your song instrumental we have made sure your wish is granted too, it still got enough intensity about it without losing the pulsating heaviness. on the flipside, call of yacuma could be described as a grittier and stripped down version of andreas previous local talk track in the box. it is pure simplicity and groove makes it simply irresistible. listening to these tracks it is clear mr saag has been influenced by living in berlin these past years. both justice and call of yacuma wouldnt sound out of place in a dark club with a big soundsystem late at night. just make sure you get past the bouncer while entering the club.

guy andrews first appeared on pennyroyals parent label hemlock with shades / textures in 2011, two cinematic and reflective uk techno tracks that earned him a loyal student fanbase. he returned to the wavering imprint in 2013 with the pounding tribal thumper resistivity and has since released an ep on leeds based techno label fina because his ex-manager thought it would be good to keep things moving. since then guy has been busy developing a unique career portfolio including composing for film and television, launching a niche specialist winter sports fashion line and lifestyle channel curl goth and more recently founding a peer-to-peer lending co-operative and crypto-currency for exchanging controversial facts surrounding the national trust.

with an ever increasing back catalogue under his belt, would anyone still assume, adam port’s next creative steps are easy to predict? au contraire! here’s his new keinemusik release you hadn’t reckoned with. this very “i never wear black” ep shows him changing tune drastically and that in the true sense of the word.

it might be quite obvious to some of you that follow our little label that we have a thing for schatrax. some would call it an obsession but we simply call it a crush. lets face it, the man has made some of the most timeless deep house from these mighty shores that make up the british isles - what s not to love? so, here he is again with mists a track previously unreleased but unmistakably schatrax. submerged beats, a skippy groove and a simple effective riff are the essence of the track while keep on loving injects a glorious uplifting feel with a bouncing b-line and classic piano riff. flipsides the almighty keeps things deep whilst aliena s groove is one of schatrax s signature tracks with it s haunting melancholic riff keeping the emotions high.

apart from the rush and hype all around electronic music these days, charmly embraced by the mighty black forrest, is the center of the badnerland, good old freiburg in germany. at first it may be hard to believe that there is more than just sunshine and wine this far south, but you would be surprised by the ever growing request for electronic music in this region. so at this point it just feels right to finally come up with a strong label throughout this exciting movement, you have guessed it: solide.

its mildly comical, that tim wagner and amy douglas, two former long islanders would choose sunrise hwy (former sunrise highway) as the name for their venture, but one listen to the music, and its clear as to why they chose such a lofty and expansive name. sunrise hwy is atmospheric, sophisticated, broad, and most importantly a return to the song as king.

you would be forgiven for not knowing the newest addition to the slowly expanding claremont 56 roster. you see, there has been no recorded output from german combo bambi davidson since the release of their largely overlooked minimal post-rock debut album, el faco, in 2000. until now, that is.

the latest instalment from danse club kicks off a much darker and harder side of the label previously unheard of on the now established imprint - with dark sleeves and muted colours there is a clear difference in sound and direction with the 17th release by emerson todd.danse club have called upon sascha dive, nathan barato and themselves (brodanse) for remix duties in order to take emerson todds original piece in three very dance floor led yet contrasting directions. from each of the remixers you get exactly what you would expect from the said names and the result is a package of stand out danse club tools that will find their way into a number of record bags permanently

tresor records is fortunate enough to be sitting on a catalogue of past releases that no other label in electronic music would turn down. three of the &#64257,,,nest in this collection were albums contributed by surgeon, “basictonalvocabulary”, “balance” and “force + form” all originally came out on the berlin institution between 1997 and 1999. surgeon’s inimitable combination of detroit techno and post-industrial sounds emanating from his british homeland found its fullest expression in these masterful trio of releases on tresor. the basictonal-remake 12” accompanied surgeon’s &#64257,,,rst tresor album in 1997, with additional versions as well as a remix by long-time birmingham collaborator mick harris.

gynoid audio maintains it s ltd series with a new split ep containing much character, coarse-grained attitude, thrilling sequences and delightful soul. on one side we have the follow up of the -procurators- by mattias fridell, exquisitely paired with a mechanically grooving remix by tomohiko sagae. turning the plate reveals the minimalistic and focused purist techno cut by future 16, the -filaments pt4-. who else would be better suited to put a soulful and zealous twist on the latter than zadig obviously no one. hopefully you ll enjoy this package of music as much as we did assembling it!

we started the classic series featuring tracks that we love, bought, played out and which we have the feeling more people should know about them. for this first edition, it is a great honor for us to welcome such a living legend, a pioneer from the chicago house scene: mr k alexi shelby! at the age of 12 he was already moving in the right circles, befriending frankie knuckles and ron hardy whilst frequenting the famous warehouse. his upbringing in chicago in the 70s and 80s meant that he was exposed to a range of genres and different styles of music including stevie wonder, prince, curtis mayfield and david huff. these same names would prove to be the roots of his influences. this projet includes two classic and timeless moments of chicago house & techno music.

one can only see cleary with the heart. essence is invisible to the naked eye. clash of the titans: 2 south-hessian music biz legends teamed up in 95, long before they had the slightest idea of what life would have in store for them. unreleased, mysterious, rough & oldschool rave adventures… these are the original tracks taken from a dusty & long forgotten dat. remastered by lopazz in 2015. love from all of us.

for release number four soul intent comes up with something truly special. the fruit club is a big nod back to the famous fruit club event that was held at the brunel rooms in swindon throughout the 90s. this is where soul intent first heard dnb as it should be via underground heros like doc scott, kemistry & storm, and dj lee. infact even the label artwork has been designed around their old flyers (big up to dj faydz & stephen reid for permission to use the fruit club logo).

for skylax 140, damien zala, of rowtag records fame, brings the heat with a new 6 track ep. it kicks off with an absolutely mad remix of * looking for the sun* by detroit legend, anthony shake shakir. the attention to detail is clear when it comes to someone who has been in the game for so long, and the rework he has done for damiens track is no exception. * the final break* is damiens first original on the record. a skippy, staccato affair in both its percussion and its disco/funk/soul sampling. *beauty is back* is damien taking things down a jazzier route, with a piano laden jazz sample and shuffling drums to match.on the flip, * always young* is an audacious disco edit, sampling such a treasured song that many would consider untouchable, luckily, damien works his magic to make an edit which gets people moving without being obvious. the ep closes out with * emotions* and the original version of * looking for the sun*, barely recognisable from the anthony shakir remix, in the best possible way! sweet & dirty indeed, dont miss this offering by the one and only damien zala.

we dont know what good old louis jordan would’ve thought of a house-gambler like rampa, translating his >let the good times roll.<- credo into the clubagenda. quite possibly he might’ve forked out some sax samples for rampas next cuts, after revising this upcoming km026, the >good times / roll< ep.

after his first ep for l.i.e.s. last year, tzusing is back with his impeccably produced style of industrial and ebm influenced machine grinding cuts.
the tracks on this ep represent the climate of clubbing yesteryear when it was normal for djs to play such things as ministry, front 242, or nitzer ebb next to a disco track next to a breakbeat track and so forth and to say these tracks could be heard somewhere like medusas would not be off base. driving, engaging and downright gnarly we can only hope these sounds foreshadow things opening back up on the floor as time pushs forward.

this 10 inch contains 2 unreleased vinyl versions in extended mixes that can make your day. the merits of van bonns releases on telrae, trapez and on van bonn records you can find in his new release -unbound-. the attractiveness of repetition has made its way into this ep... and it was a good choice. we kick off with -king-, a track which is a cross breed of a stubborn beat and a dub techno feeling showcasing a melodic intermezzi that flies in and out with a mind of its own. more minimalistic than most of the tracks you know from him, it includes unexpected half baked sounds you would not expect from van bonn. on the other hand the epic 10 minute monster -distinct- is a real dub techno giant and a soundtrack at the same time... with beats that take you by the hand.

2015 re-issue! producers trias and baeks are old school techno berliner djs who held residency at tresor club for well over 10 years. adam x and ancient methods befriended each other in berlin in 2008. the main commonality in forging a solid friendship between them was their passion not just for techno but for the rhythmic noise side of the industrial music scene. it would only make sense with mutual respect of each others music to record a release together. here on their first collaboration they blend together their distinctive styles to create a fresh new sound of techno, industrial and arrhythmic and dysrhythmic noise machine funk

the man like octo octa: best known for his still devastating let me see you cut for 100% silk, the brooklyn producer graces running back with four fine cuts. creating the new, while respecting the old, the more times ep features heavy house (more times), twitchy house (fever dream), dubby house (take me to the dark) and breakbeat house with due respect to ltj bukem (dresses). thats a lot of house for your money. music for clubs and places that would like to be clubs. watch out for octo octa on the back of the brilliant cover.

at the tail end of the 90s, gregory darsa played around with a number of pseudonyms before finally settling on his now familiar dj gregory alias. one of those abandoned aliases was headcore. it was used for a single ep back in 1998, released on chateau flight s label, versatile (then in it s infancy). here, that ep gets a welcome reissue. it s aged rather well, with all four tracks - explorations of deep house themes with occasional nods to the dubby, african-influenced style darsa would later explore on the africanism project - sounding as fresh now as they did 16 years ago. picking highlights is tricky, but we re particularly enjoyed the sparse, swinging dub-house of -cage- (accompanied with a tasty drum dub) and the chez damier-influenced chug of -in & out

iron curtis delivers his 2nd full 4 track ep for hudd traxx following up the huge stansfield ep in 2010. the opening track care demonstrates ics diversity as a producer as he lays down a killer bassline with melodic keys which will find its way into many big hitters bags. sing along with your friends has deep laid keys and an mcde esk feel to it accompanied by some heavy snares for good measure. flip for the b side and find shouting & screaming, a dark driving track that even spencer kinsey would be proud of.

not since edward iii rolled out his cannons on the french battlefield during the 100 years war have we seen such shock & awe response to fresh, terrifying and complete weaponry. many of you will already know the name of tx connect from his previous sides on dabj, not to mention cuts on l.i.e.s (w/ willie burns), bad mums and adelaide soundworks. the three tracks present here for his first bonafide dabj solo outing are no-nonsense jack trax strictly for the vagabonds, rogues, sages and full-on midnight wizards. if you were to drop this fizzing slice of wax into a two-litre bottle of coke, it would level your whole fucking town.

land of confusion is one of the most seminal chicago acid house records. originally released in 1987 on bam bam s westbrook imprint and produced by the legendary armando gallop it marked the start of a recording career that would make him a household name among house and techno aficionados. to say land of confusion is raw is an understatement, it consists of a handful of elements but its impact when played is incendiary. armandos tb-303 acid lines sound possessed and unruly while the primitive drum machine patterns stagger around the track giving it a feeling of out of control urgency, a truly lo-fi piece of crazy chicago acid that was popular with many djs in chicago(including ron hardy at the muzic box) and around the world and continues to be influential today. an essential record for any discerning house or techno fan.

off the back of the success of audens first hotflush ep, the enigmatic alias returns to scubas label with another hard hitting four-tracker, wall to wall. lock in throws you in headfirst - fast-paced drum loops layered with slices of jarring techno and a driving bassline that would be welcomed on the darkest dancefloors. utopian, initially a more languid cut, juxtaposes an almost cerebral landscape with hard hitting percussion, only allowing the listener a short breather before hurtling back in with perisheds swirling synths and trippy electronic jabs. ending on xirox, auden crafts a slightly more down-tempo cut, boasting a catchy groove that only gets better with each listen. whoever auden may or may not be, one thing is for certain – hes carving his place deep in technos panorama.

with the bizarre feeling ep laying the sound for the subsequent fist year of the label, it is right jamie returns with ep#2 to move things forward with another twisted take on his unique mutoid-protoid-machine-funk-groove. starting with mad obsession you would be forgiven for thinking you ll have bizarre feeling part 2, with warped vocals - taken from late night, half asleep scribbled notes - and space echo haze, but let the percussion work-out trip you up and the stars in and before you know it things start going leftfild and then deeper with the free party sound system bass line shuffl of time nearly time. what he is on (about), no one knows. it is on the flp however that things take a darker turn. beyond the confession booth, down sharp stairs and dripping ceiling to a red light lit room of latter day late night blues.

one would never think of mystic rituals when thinking of basque county. yet, this might be a premature thought. naturally, the isle of haiti or the american deep south come to mind when thinking of these tribal traditions.

growing up in metro-detroit, and having recently played on the made in detroit stage at this years movement festival, you would have a fair idea of what to expect from appian. indeed, the influence of the motor citys signature sound on much of the burgeoning talents output is unmistakable. yet appians forthcoming release *chatter ep* on fina records is a testament to his varied and experimental production style, a distinctive sound borne out of inspirations as varied as funk, experimental electronica, disco, 80s stuff, early house, and aphex twin

after being returned from his abduction by aliens from the hidden planet nibiru, dj overdose was given an alien synthesizer the haex-hrll as a thank you for all the cerebral research the aliens did on him. on returning back to earth all dj overdose had to do was finish the 6 tracks the aliens had started to work on, which became this ep. straight forward techno hop electro funk without any fancy-pants pretentious hooha. its like a black and white movie which makes you think why the hell is there colors anyway?! after completion, the only record label he could imagine being fit for such rawness would be viewlexx... and so here it is.
