Fumiya Tanaka s double-tracker >Beautiful Town< was fully inspired by its cover artwork: a set of carefully selected old pictures with a layer of masterful signature paintings by Romanian artist and fine-arts student Bonjour Bonsoir. A-sides >Abacus Avenue< is the EP’s most dense and eerie side. An addictive piece that utterly succeeds in sucking you right in like a vortex would. The locomotive bassline serves its purpose of movement in a strong loopy groove, while the pads and poltergeist y sounds reformat our heads with an inability for space-time tracking. The otherside of this town, >Himegami Marathon<, is another mysteriously intricate work. Its a microcosm of grooves, sinister details and voices locked in a tight groove built on a single bass stab and a flowing, never-ending set of wet claps. A piano kicks in at key points, alongside percussive elements, reminding us that this town is alive.
