it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent... house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 1 you ll find a dark bassline driven house jam from art of tones (check the mad sax!), a proper deep journey jam from nyc s dj spinna, a blaze homage with that classic new jersey sound from sean mccabe, and a bumpy world/jazz inspired cut straight outta brescia from wonder kid corrado bucci. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style!

1994 - chicago producer rick lenoir has already released a slew of legendary records under many well known aliases and his house jam label has been in business since 87. the sanctuary project is the nom de plume utilised by rick for this particular killer disco infected 4 track ep from that period. the keen eared among you will no doubt recognise some of the sample sources used throughout these tracks, lenoir flips jazzy loops, chopped up vocals and lays it all out over some kicking drum programming, this is that style of sample based house that has the hardened dance heads and hip-hoppers unified, gritty, raw and brimming over with soul! the cuts featured on this ep will sit nicely with most contemporary sounds and shows how on the money rick was in the mid 90 s! the record has long been out of print and has been forever popular with the diggers out there, commanding a healthy price when available in the second hand stores and online. this reissue has been realised with the full involvement of rick lenoir / house jam records, chicago and is 100% legit! don t snooze, this one deserves a spot in any self respecting house heads record bag or dj set, classic material made available again for 2017 - running it’!

aaaron is a producer that s been on our radar for a long time. as demonstrated by his beautiful and stripped back recent work for connected, aaaron s tracks have developed a certain maturity that has become impossible to ignore. following that signature style, the grooves on black arp, his debut ep for yoshitoshi, flow smartly from his experiences in berlin s minimal techno/tech house scene. never too abrupt or intense, black arp and keep doin it are versatile tracks for many different atmospheres and set styles. like much of his music, the percussion throughout features elements of tribal house, producing a playful energy and an extra level of accessibility. additionally, we re very excited to welcome dj t., another respected berliner who really needs no introduction, to the label for the first time. he gives the ep a rough edge with this remix of black arp. the distorted synth leads and stabs here filter in and out over a driving tech house groove, giving the release a peak-time option for those in need.

this will mark the first time all of these tracks will be available on vinyl. further, the album will feature unreleased tracks from cringe machine as well as a twins remix of love letters contribution nag. an interview of harsh riddims ryan parks by 2mrs mike simonetti (and vice versa) make up the liner notes and the labels will be throwing parties in nyc and atlanta to celebrate the release.

for the fourth release shaw cuts lines up five shaolin commanders who created their own interpretations of farrons death duel ep: marco zenker, russian duo poima, roger 23 and simo cell. these heavies form the shelter clan whose mission is to cover ah chis back wherever he goes. marco zenker gives we dont make no sense his signature machine funk that decimates challengers in one swing. ah chi can always count on marcos sword. poima from moscow rival with sabers, severing those who dare to cross their path. their version of tangency is lead by a dirty break-beat drum combo blazoned by cosmic synth melodies and warm machine derangement. centro on the b-side gets heavily grimed by veteran roger 23 whose axe is as heavy as his remix style in general. beware of roger! armed with tonfas, simo cell layers par 2 with a complex and fresh-sounding groove, causing lethal devastation to enemy combatants. ah chi is well-shielded by his companions and still unbeaten to this day. trust in the shelter clan!

produced and recorded in 1965 during a time when chicago soul was one of the most influential sounds in r&b.the dontells entered the studio and cut two tracks that put that sound on full display. the session was led by producer calvin carter, world famous arranger johnny pate-along with the cities top musicians. these tracks were never released and have only been heard by a few people until now. the a side “move on down the line” grabs you from the first second the needle drops. a mid tempo love song with a trademark arrangement from pate and a vocal melody and approach in the style of chicago’s king of soul, curtis mayfield. “there goes a fool” is the b side and is a reminder why the dontells were one of the best groups out of the windy city. another brilliant production with a top notch arrangement. horns, strings, a swinging backbeat and that signature chicago vocal sound lead by the sweet harmonies of nate, leroy, manuel & ralph. this is no doubt a 60’s soul classic in 2017!

late last year music for dreams released the digital album -debut- by bongo entp. this passion project from veteran studio session player jacob andersen brought us an unexpectedly fresh take on south american music traditions. on this new vinyl release, the project is both revisited and expanded upon. cherry picking some of the grooviest cuts from the album for this ep, we also get remix treatments from well sourced collaborators selvagem & carrot green. both hailing from brazil, these producers certainly know how to work latin percussion on a dancefloor. taking on the dreamy cover version of henri mancini’s classic -lujón- (original included too), carrot green ups the tempo and wrangles the elements of the original into something completely different. adding a house kick and dark acid undertones, he takes you on a wet trip with lots of twists and turns. the production duo of selvagem manage something similar with one of the looser bongo entp. jams. the original -foto feita do aviaõ is a jazzy scat sinaalong tune. in selvagem’s hands, it turns into an epic cosmic disco groover, locked into place by a muscular baseline. the vocal chants of the original are here, but used in a lower key and more sparingly to punctuate the bounce of the rhythm. the vinyl includes two other album highlights - the cafe del mar classic -el rey de pollo- , a santana-style chill-out affair featuring mikkel nordsø of bombay hotel fame and finally the moody -spanish winter- with its robotic reggae-like groove and syrup-thick synthesizers bubbling in a bittersweet fashion. a superb package.

chicago dj and producer olin follows up the debut release on his new record label, boundary movement, with tpi featuring four diverse cuts. up-tempo electro, moody minimalism, old-school melodies, and chugging deep house all woven seamlessly. the a side begins with “tpi,” an exercise in minimalism and micro-detail. unmistakably olin’s own, insistent synth stabs keep time while needlepoint percussion keeps the ear guessing. if you thought olin’s palette was limited to techno and house, a2 “corsaren” will prove you wrong — this is pitch-perfect electro in a classic style, a slow-building interplay of sci-fi synthesizers wrapped around icy cool call-and-response kicks and handclaps. b1 “thanks rob” is bom02’s most straightforward cut — and one of its best. building momentum slowly across its eight-minute runtime, “thanks rob” impresses as the larger-than-life bass swell hits. the dancefloor will be rapt – proceed carefully. b2 “hyssop,” feeling like it comes from a similar vintage as “corsaren,” might have been called “ambient techno” decades ago, but its upwardly mobile percussion makes it feel as at home in a club as it does in the chill-out room. it’s just the thing to close out this broad-spectrum record. – chris zaldua

shaun reeves & tuccillo mark visionquest’s first release of 2017 with their ‘origin 99’ ep, comprising four collaborative original tracks from the pair. individually shaun reeves and tuccillo have been driving forces in the realms of underground house for quite some time, collectively releasing on labels such as raum, 2020 vision, circus company and more. this time round though the pair’s material finds a home with visionquest, label co-founder shaun reeves joins forces with tuccillo, following his solo ‘full time’ ep on the imprint in 2016, for a new synergistic release. up first is title track ‘origin 99’ which sees the pair deliver a smooth understated house style via organic percussion, winding dub stabs and tension building atmospheric to create a subtly evolving six and a half minute cut. ‘one two five’ follows and lays focus on a more stripped-back aesthetic with sparse rhythmic hits, tumbling sub hits and a dreamy bell chime melody. ‘prowler’ opens the latter half of the package with soft chord sequences and wandering delayed synth lines running alongside 303 bass and shuffled snares before ‘blood moon’ closes the package on a raw minimalistic vibe with swirling dub echoes and intricately evolving percussion.

emerald city is the first release of verdant recordings, a new label to present carefully curated deep music across the electronic spectrum. on this ep are 3 highly respected producers from the uk leigh dickson, john shima and plant43 (emile facey) and a 4th debut track from a disciple of the halcyon days of emotive music mihail petrovski. musically this ep is all about deep techno, the exquisite sounds and characteristic style of each producer is unmistakeable. emerald city was first released as limited edition of lathe cuts but interest in the project completely overwhelmed its availability. this 2nd pressed edition should keep the deep-heads satisfied and will also include the beautiful artwork from sophie o leary presented in the 1st edition.

its a pleasure to introduce tony rainwater, undoubtedly the most productive and creative savage weve come across recently. see usually we dont do this, lehult is a crew affair, but this guy left us no choice. being a music enthusiast, dj and dancer for a long time, tony has only most recently picked up producing his own music, yet at a stunning rate: when we first asked him for a demo, three months after he started producing, he swiftly dropped us a set of twenty-five tracks, another set of fifty more soon followed. his productions are straight rough edged, no-prisoners-taken jams, combining samples from the most far-flung corners of his eclectic music collection. his magical patchwork wild style is on full display on his debut rockberry jam ep for lehult. the a-side takes us through the lighter side of his repertoire with the title tracks slow building house groove, some dizzy medieval monk grooves on to all the world and seductive r&b on lay it on the line. on the flip operalight irresistible groove and black dream flowers provide some darker moments, before alone closes on a soft note. the vinyl version includes an extra goodie after the runouts. tony is now a fixed member of the crew already and were proud to have him and his crazy energy on the team. this wont be the last youll hear of him.

shamrock grew up in the township called ‘kwathema’, in the east of johannesburg. he has being crazy for music since he was a young child, and at primary school he sang as the soloist in the choir. everyone now knows that south africa is the house music capitol of the world! most young upcoming producers look up the american and european producers, but shamrock’s sound is standing out from the rest, as he’s been digging into his african roots to come up with his own style of music, working with mainly south african musicians, only using the computer to record the audio. on this album he’s also featured international musicians han litz,flutist from the netherlands, asali, vocalist from kenya, andy compton, from the uk, and jimmy gabriel on sax from nigeria.

btaim resumes its line of raw techno templates with a pair of stripped-back but funked-up floor killers. promising berlin-upstart tecture draws inspiration both from his hometown as well as detroit, delivering two highly effective yet emotive club weapons. their bold basement vibe may seem grim on the surface, but they glimmer with hope underneath. it is this very interplay between murk and melancholy that embodies the record with dynamic textures and a narrative. in similar fashion trevino pairs imposing low end rumble and bright arps, reworking the title track into his own dnb-reminiscent signature style. with the addition of btaim006 to their catalogue, both artist and label have placed themselves on this year‘s watch lists for sure.

second round for french in any case imprint, still keeping it chopped and dusty, celebrating the sound of the almighty rhodes electric piano through this 5 tracker wax slab. opening this release is the fashionable parisian tell with a cool house cut featuring some lush samples and a driving beat. following is the label co-founder g2s track amako blending a strong backbeat with a groovy bass and chopped rhodes sample closing a side with a neat library style feeling. we ve then got malouane (co-founder too) opening the flip with a trippy tune including melty percussions on top of a jungly bassline. succeeding, manuel nie from germany with a hip hop - house crossover, banging drums cutting through perfect rhodes samples. finally, ibn sabaa is closing the v/a with a mean head-nodding modern hip hop groove that will doubtlessly wreck your neck.

following two staggering contributions from the analogue roland orchestra and 2030 that illustrated to boundless sonic possibilities for the label, deep’a & biri return to their tel aviv-based black crow label with a pair of powerful, emotive techno cuts in the style for which the duo long since become admired. for a long time one of those admirers has been detroit techno founding father derrick may, who has been on a mission to push the new 12inches a-side, basic cycle, into instant classic territory through his unwavering commitment to making the track a highlight of his sets. may has been far from alone, with the track being one that d&b have been asked about, if not outright begged for, over the past year or so. it finally becomes available to techno fans worldwide in january 2017, backed by the pummelling rhythms of overdrum, which itself has the potential to turn heads and drop jaws all by itself.

mentha records calls on the services of hakim murphy to rock a record titled ambidextrous to amphibious. the four track 12 inch illustrates murphys ability to create different styles, tempos, and textures. the a side begins with sickness, which displays a sparkling synth line that grooves from beginning to end. a2 is a beatdown tune called spaceness is filled to the brim with texture and harmonic goodness. an acid house banger called merge starts the flip side that features a bubble acid line and moving percussion. panty hose silences ends the record with its jazzy influenced tones and flowing arp lines. a release that is good for home, club, and warehouse use.

imyrmind s debut album uniwersum luxus surfaces at record stores worldwide on february 27th, 2017 courtesy of berlin-based money $ex records. idiosyncrasies of both imyrmind himself, and indeed the label as a whole, seep through the fabric of the album, a patchwork of tasteful re-appropriation and sophisticated originality.covering a broad landscape of raw, gutsy minimalism, mesmeric synthwork and trademark ultra-loose beat-making, imyrmind has crafted a record that embodies his rapacious ear and well-groomed production style. in a maturation of techniques explored across earlier releases, borrowed organic textures meet frazzled analogue electronics and clunky, lagging beat iterations in a collection of tracks ranging from the quivering to the aggressive. uniwersum luxus is a bright convergence of influence and innovation, all reverberating within the echo chamber of the money $ex world, self-aware, playful, and at times even ironic.

this record collects many intimate things and singular ideas about voiski, it is also an excellent synthesis of his musical style, and how it is evolving towards a more and more unknown territory, where his -post-trance- idea collides classic detroit influences, 90 s techno (with that underworld cover obviously) and a very unique sonic identity he has developed playing his synths with a bright and powerful sound design, and rich arpeggios.

dj dez aka andrés returns to japans root down records for his second 7inch on the label. for those that only know dez from his andres releases you are missing a whole other side of what this guy can do. dez has been scratching, cutting, and chopping beats for the better part of 20 years as a dj for slum village, a member of detroit s 12 tech mob dj crew, not to mention countless amounts of productions, mixes and beats for other artists. here on this 7inch we have two rare examples of dez s inimitable style, raw, funky and timeless!

private eyes, a duo made up of interstellar funk and jeroen, two storied members of amsterdams underground electronic music community. 500, vinyl only. tip! their safe trip debut consists of two analogue-heavy electronic workouts that tend towards the atmospheric. a-side -mirror image- is spacey and melodious, with an italo-disco inspired arpeggio bassline underpinning galactic chords and memorable piano lines. it s a collection of complimentary analogue elements tweaked for maximum late night enjoyment. on the flip you’ll find -anasazi-, an altogether deeper, more hypnotic affair. its distinctive rhythm comes not from bold drum machine beats, but rather the rising and falling of intricate, micro-house style melodies and looped electronics. it feels like it was influenced by the aural textures of dub techno, the phase-based minimalism of steve reich, and the deep space ethos of early 90s european ambient music.

after 10 years of pushing the envelope of bass music, leeds based j.sparrow launches his own record label navy cut. navy cut promises to explore new territory in sound system music by focusing on quality releases by some of the worlds talented producers. nc001 introduces a new project between leo james (ruckspin, author, submotion orchestra) and ed gooden (quark). speak back the a side is very reminiscent of early rhythm and sound featuring shanee pink on vocals. the b side ventures into a more sound system style steppas affair featuring moody guitar by ed gooden. to finish off this debut release egoless one of croatia s finest exports completely flips the a side with a lively remix. future releases by navy cut will feature music by j.sparrow, author, rwild and guests.

voodoo down returns to the compilation series that started it all: possible side effects vol.1, released in late 2012, was the first release on the brooklyn-based label and marked the inception of a concept ep series that would come to define the labels sound. featuring an a1 cut by german journeyman producer stl and rounded out by the label founders’ eclectic techno styles, pse vol. i was the perfect vehicle for the producers still working to carve out their own individual aesthetic. now with a dozen releases under their belt, the founders l estasi dell oro, nconduit and 12 x 12 have returned to their roots and this time recruited the prolific berlin-based producer deadbeat for volume three of the series. like the first two volumes, its a slightly chaotic mix of beefy dance floor tools and heady experimentation. the separate personalities shine through more than ever on this release. vdr always striving to keep things interesting.

5 years ago it all started with our very first release the raw joints 1. we wanted to build a platform for our artists to publish their music as they see it. now 13 releases further we re ready to introduce our biggest project ever since: raw joints 5!! to celebrate our 5th anniversary we decided to do something special and we had so many tracks that we decided to do a triple lp with 14 tracks on it. a lot of new/old artists have contributed to this heavy weight dance floor bomb with various styles and energy. to top it off we asked our good friends from studio airport to complete this thing with a proper raw joint sleeve. the mask is the face of slapfunk and inside this gatefold sleeve you will find us all dancing to that one thing which unites us all: music! shout out to our dear friend vincent de boer for drawing the magic. with all the celebrations comes a europe tour as well so hold tight!

rhythm plate released one of the best releases on hudd traxx in 2007, half of rp returns under the guise of goshawk for hudd 055. matt brings astral t back with him for the a1 track and my heart certainly gives inside me a run for it s money. warm chords, lush vocals and slick beats are all laid down to perfection to kick off the ep in fine style.a2 follows the deep tones set on a1 with the wonderful high in the evergreens. the b side kicks off in a more upbeat style with yes in this way which would fit nicely in a derrick carter peak time set. goshawk finishes off with a cheeky garage number that is reminiscent of grant nelson s early work on nice n ripe which can only be a good thing.
