�umwelt�s 12inch �� city� from 1999 was one of the most impressive 12inches i had at that time and i played the shit out of it. it was dark and very emotional, it was abstract but also driving at the same time. this was 1999 though, before discogs and before facebook and all the other platforms people have now to do research on artists they like and follow their work. at that time it was the record shop � and that was it. nobody knew this guy though, and i didn�t get my hands on any of the following releases, so in my world there was no follow-up to this record ever and i thought it would remain a one-off gem in my record box. until by some coincident i recently discovered he was still around and had actually released numerous releases in the meantime. i was very excited and contacted him straight away and ended up booking him for krake festival in the same year. undoubtedly his set was one of the best of the whole festival! he took the roof off the place with his mix of raw electro, industrial and rave and everybody was talking about it afterwards, saying it was the highlight of the festival! talking to him i learnt, that most of the tracks he played were his own, mostly unreleased. he produces without computers, all his tracks are single takes, there is no editing, no mixing afterwards, he only has a stereo track recording which is what it is. he owns a cutting machine which he uses to cut dubplates from his tracks, which he then plays out during his sets. this whole information about this very unique artistic approach just killed it for me, and since working with him was so nice as well, i asked him for a demo for killekill and its labels and was hoping for tracks i could make a great 12&#8243,, of. i got 14 tracks and after weeks of trying to pick the best, i finally realized i held one of the best electro albums ever in my hand � banging beats and the balls to go big and epic, subtle melodies, drama, funk � this album has got it all, and what�s most important, the music on it is the exact opposite of so much other music nowadays: it is emotional, it tells a story, it is easily recognizable and it is not interchangeable. it�s just umwelt.� nico deuster

it took me a couple of years get invited to christophe de groot�s (aka circadian rhythms) homebase, and a couple more years to dive into his sonic archive. but time tells and basic moves 02 is what came out. the two tracks were recorded at earguard studio in brussels around 1996, at a moment when his interest was moving away from club music towards other golden musical horizons. �frequency� is a macro tech-house track in mid tempo.
i�m super happy i could archive it on wax because we almost fucked up the master dat tape by blowing up the player during a marathon listening session at his place. we had to open the device, unroll the tape across his house (full of records) and fold it back into the mini dat cassette. after a few hours and twenty metres of tape, the problem was solved and the tracks archived: �a dose of authenticity at a time of post-counter-cultural stagnation�. �house speaker call� originated in proto-techno forms. christophe never sees techno as a type of music but as a process. as a producer, collector and deejay he always dives deep into authentic forms of electronic music. deg�s antic personality shines out in the middle of the harsh beat-driven electro/techno track like a hopeful melody passing by on its elliptic orbit. tune your cells into his vibrations and get ready for these two timeless club tracks.

2017 repress due to high demand and crazy online prices!! santuri s embaire umeme ep got a worldwide premiere from gilles peterson on a never-ending quest to support and exposure far off musical cultures around the world, the next on the corner releases sees them look to uganda. teaming up with santuri (an east african electronic music innovation project) and soundthread (a creative development non-profit), they have worked alongside the mugwisa international xylophone group with modern recording techniques and further re-arrangement on two remixes. the first, by sam jones, was premiered last week by stamp the wax, and today ushers in the second by alejandro mosso. a thudding kick drum at the first beat aims this one straight towards the early evening dancefloor. working in unison with samples from the giant wooden xylophone and conversations between the musicians, serves to place the track back into its original context and is allowed to settle for a couple minutes, before what sounds like a kora or zither brings a far-eastern twist. with the slow-burning, steady elements of a balearic production and the beguiling hypnotism of steve reich s work this is a big worldwide favourite.

�race to zero� is the new album by musician and composer john matthias and producer, musician and composer jay auborn.
the album�s starting point was a series of acoustic improvisations recorded in a variety oflocations, from a 700 year old chapel in the devon countryside to a basement studio in reykjavík, iceland. in an attempt to create a fractured sense of space reflective of the digital condition, the duo found themselves working within a place that could only exist in the digital landscape.

long beach serial chiller ahwlee is a beat vet who delivers smooth buttery samples with a nostalgic vibe. 1991 is a cult classic cassette now issued for the first time on vinyl. these tracks are dusty, mellow and easy-going. don�t mistake mellow for boring, however, because ahwlee�s production is nuanced and intricate underneath the minimalist overtones. there�s jazzed-up rhodes all over the place, and the percussion work masterfully includes a ton of negative space in between perfectly chopped breaks. they�ll get your head nodding.

paulino vieira, bana, and their legendary troupe, voz de cabo verde, made lisbon the headquarters spearheading the musical revolution taking place within cape verdean emigre communities across europe in the 1980s. musicians from across the diaspora would eagerly travel to the portuguese capital to record. but in smaller pockets, second-generation krioulu musicians were independently contributing to one of the most lush periods of cultural innovation by immigrants in europe. in 1986, a group of nine teenagers � antonio monteiro, ambrosio gomes, emilio borges, fefa cabral, to pereira, pedro varela, celeste monteiro, clarisse, germano shares � formed the largely unknown, often overlooked, but consistently brilliant band, pilon. combining traditional funana rhythms and the hybrid colazouk style with psychedelic synth work and rugged guitar ostinatos, pilon refined their sound for years until releasing these recordings as part of their debut album, tradicao, in 1993, with a tight-knit unit of just five remaining members. the band is still a popular mainstay for parties in the cape verdean circles of frankfurt, paris, lyon, marseille, rotterdam, and geneva.

next up on hell yeah is -the most balearic record i have ever released- according to label boss & it comes from japan s disco don max essa which features a four part track, themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely, on one side of vinyl, and two more on the flip. essa was born matthew bruce and the uk artist has now been releasing his blissed out beats on labels like feel music, electric minds, bear funk and is it balearic? recording for a decade. a prolific producer whose big hits like panorama suite/uptown vibration (is it balearic?) from 2010 have long been in the hell yeah boss s record bag, essa first approached the label with a bunch of tracks. a good correspondence alchemy ensued and together the artist and label decided to put out the most timeless 12inch possible. the exquisitely ambitious themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely is almost 12 minutes of serene ambient synth work that is like a soundtrack to a hot summer s day. heavenly chords sound just like a breathy female vocal and as they come and go, one finger piano tinkles add real emotional beauty and gentle twinkles shimmer in the distance. half way through lazy drums propel things along at a loveably lethargic pace and immediately place you on the beach. on the flip, saguaro is just as organic and beautiful, but has tumbling drums, wooden hits and soft claps as well as essa s magical synth work all bathing your soul in warm rays. b2 buran chime is perfectly horizontal and expansive, with tinkling triangles, angelic chords and scattered hits and harpsichord sounds all radiating effusively. this is timeless music that will calm busy minds now and forever.

it is making my blood boil. man, my jaw is hanging down listening to this stuff. read the email from butthole surfers man and producer, paul leary, when he heard the demo for what would become the debut philipp gorbachev & the naked man album. philipp gorbachev, the russian musician and dj, has been throwing killer parties and making some of the most innovative and exciting electronic music to come out of moscow in years. in 2014 he released his debut album silver album but when invited to perform a live boiler room he had something else in mind: a band scenario. the resulting concoction was not something locked into a 4/4 beat but rather a much more organic, groove-based sound with funk-strutting bass lines and live drums that rolled and flurried around the beats that jumped around leading the charge of the songs along with gorbachev�s damo suzuki-like vocals. taking that experiment into the studio, i dont give a snare is a wild ride that jumps genres, switches paces and alters tones frequently. the opening goodman exploding in intense rhythms and heavy, spiralling riffs that at times recall sabbath but the ever-shifting drums and gargling electronics give a wonky freshness that feels impossible to place into genre. whilst gorbachev cites a range of influences from beck to blind willie johnson as being core to him, the primary motivation is the live nature of the project itself. the main influence is the constant live experience we have as music players and performers. i want to get the most out of every party, every jam, and every dancefloor.

inspired by the original, the pair turn moneymax into cashminus to deliver two tracks born in a place where belgian new beat, ebm and early rave sounds meet. the result is club monster no satisfaction, which comes in two incarnations: the original vocal version plus an even meaner acid dub for those anxious strobo moments.

a concept album is the best way to get back to being agan. -amplification of movements- (2017) is the first full-length album of giuseppe carlini, already a member of plaster with gianclaudio h. moniri (kaeba). a work inspired by and dedicated to the natural reserve of vico lake, in italy. during a four-year period, from 2012 to 2016, the artist focused on the wildlife of the area in the province of viterbo, considering it both as an inspiring muse and an object of study. -amplification of movements- was developed little by little, in the wake of an -onion- architecture and layered in six songs which inevitably reference the nature of the site. the parallels between the place and the music are also to be found in search of a sound, which is balanced between field recordings and self production.
