tireless producer, tronic boss and top international dj christian smith here steps up for his first release on plus 8. over the years christian has offered up a high volume and high quantity of techno inclined singles for myriad labels (bedrock, systematic, 100percent pure, soma), so it only makes sense he now finds himself on one of the scenes most reliable outposts for such material. the two track ep kicks off with house is house which is, as the name suggests, a little house-ier than the flip, but still deals in plenty of heavy bass weight and slick repetition. the devil is in the detail filtered, dark voices, rattling cowbells, washes of white noise synths and long, thin, forward looking pads - all of which are married to a mid-tempo groove. the more forceful indulge me then follows. taught kick drums start immediately as claps and subtle synth stabs swell in volume until they eventually fill out the whole airwaves. squirming behind are thin and icy steel lines until the first drop when the deliciously bouncy groove sets in proper. far from aping the usual detroit and chicago tropes, christian smith has once again crafted two classy dance floor joints that are not only exquisitely produced, but that bare all the usual hallmarks of christian smith, one of the most consistent producers in the game.

nice price deal !!! after three releases of darkened house, proto rave and weird techno, hollands boutique purple maze label takes a detour into funky disco territory with prime numbers and firecracker craftsman fudge fingas at the helm. his amaranthine labyrinth ep is lively, bright and sugary, but still features plenty of complex analogue machinery to get you dancing.eyes on the prize opens proceedings with some distant bongos, glassy percussion and punchy kick drums. its a jostling track with insistent claps running right through it that really comes alive when some sweeping chords bring irresistible colour and funk.

the ninth release from the mainrecords shop, on its eponymously titled label comes in the form of three tracks of slick late night electro from matt star, plus a remix from perseus traxx. with well over three dozen releases under his belt in one guise or another matt star aka mattias schildger is no stranger at all to production of high quality electronic music, as this latest ep clearly displays. happily blurring boundaries between house and electro, with its tight, crisp beats the release exudes a form of stripped back and honest late night cool with basses that bubble in a way sometimes reminiscent of ed dmx, while others lend more of a chicago feel accompanied by rolling toms. synth lines and arpeggiations cut in and out of subtle modulations giving the feel of anticipation one gets while tearing along the motorways of a city, late at night, the lights of the city and other vehicles brightly darting by, streaking and reflecting across the cars windscreen. perseus traxx delivers a subtle remix that remains true to the elements of the original and while adding a booming kick and some of his own production techniques, influences and grit to the mix, shows he isnt stuck in one genre or sound.

following last years triumphant debut on untolds imprint hemlock, brighton based producer guy andrews is back with his first 12 inch for hotflush recordings. a superb followup to his 2011 auditory missive, the wait / hands in mine merges percussive elements with heavy basslines resulting in two dark dancefloor cuts. shuffling and persistent, side a is bass-driven track filled with arpeggiated goodness, while on the flip, andrews shows off his ability to manipulate genres by using a bass kick and frenzied rhythmic percussion to dial up an atmospheric tune. with recent acclaim from xlr8r, resident advisor and truants along with dj and radio support from the likes of benji b, l-vis 1990, brackles, sound pellegrino, shortstuff, benjamin damage and throwing snow, guy andrews is on the rise. lookout for another 12 inch via hotflush this fall.

ander-traxx is a fresh label operating out of glasgow with the intent of releasing righteous underground house, and although mainly a platform for the labels founder alex-ander to showcase his own productions, ander-traxxs remit also includes the presentation of unknown talent for future releases. for this first release, alex steps up to the plate to deliver because of me, followed by 3 remixes from artists born and raised in glasgow. the original kicks things off with its intro of glacial pads and jittery hats, before quickly delving into a seriousely deep groove brimming with melodic layers. although because of me gives a strong nod to the recent developements of producers like omar s and kyle hall, it undoubtedly has the hallmarks of an alex-ander production, his unique arrangements coming to the forefront while still complimenting the crisp percussion that drives the track forward. carlos nilmmns (co founder of the formidable solab production unit) mix is a much more off-kilter and submerged affair. nilmmns plays down the epic quality of the original and adds chugging rhythmics and sweetcured piano work for a lesson in divine repetition. mesumas feedback mix goes in for the dancefloor attack, not surprising for a gentleman whos previous work has seen releases on hardgroove and seventh sign. rolling toms and a booming kick meet aquatic vocal samples and spectral harmonicas, and will still please those partial to deeper sounds. last up to give because of me the rework treatment is meschi (lunar disko, lux, snuff traxx), who mixes his chicago influenced analogue stylings perfectly with the source material. stripped down crescendos build up to a euphoric drop, and meschis elated melodies bring another twist to this excercise in deep funk. because of me is one of those rare e.ps that works just as well in a non-club enviroment as it does on the dancefloor. with this warning shot, alex-ander will surely be capturing the ears of many in 2012 and beyond.

apartments 3rd release comes courtesy of acclaimed producer lerosa. for this, his first release of 2012, he delivers 4 electro-based cuts, a rarely seen side to the man predominantly known for his house productions. the sparse and melancholic combat starts off proceedings, before titaniums throbbing bass, combined with mr. rosas unique melodic sensibilities, increases the pace. on the b-side slavery is a furious acid jam, constantly rising in energy over hectic percussion and a wall-shaking electro beat. finishing on decisions, the pace is reduced considerably while the acid stays intact, delivering the 12 inchs only 4/4 kick for what is lerosas most euphoric cut to date.

stefan goldmanns adem finally brings a new concept of handling melodies to the world of house and techno. pushy synths tuned to arabian intervals, playfully pitch bent around one repeated note that sticks to the kick as if its life depends on it. its as if a parallel universes acid has been invented in some lunatic asylum in tirana. this primitive melody is as alienatingly synthetic as it is offensively brain-dissolving. in the hands of a dj, adem” is like the captagon formula in the hands of the bulgarian secret service: many deaths, big bucks. chalga, tallava, manele - call it anything. the b-side’s rigid chain is as detuned, yet strictly limited to a rogue off-beat bassline pumping in between metallic house drums. thats it.

all nite ep is the young mancunian waltons second set on hyperdub, after his very well received walton ep debut for the label in 2011. title cut >all nite< kicks it off with warm plucked strings, diva moans and lazer-like synths stretched to the point of anticipation over cracking grime handclaps and bass drums, until the track drops into a blocky bass line playing hide and seek with low arpeggios that spiral in and out of the mix, over a giant pounding metallic kick drum before layering on the warmth again. the whole track plays with a fine balance between warm, disco-like lushness and exuberant roughness. >mallet< is driving and darker, building detuned, bell-like tones over a 4/4 beat accented by breaks and fills and gaps, dropping into a big bass line and syncopations that disrupt the beat and bring the drama. >kush< is different again, taking the pace down with low end, synth hip hop with glassy chords, running over woozy pitch shifting rhodes chords fed through a layer of crackly gauze.

for the fourth ep on austere, irelands slowburn are welcomed into the fold. having impressed us with releases on uzuri and elektrosouls this ep will not disappoint fans of the label to kick things off we have the the hustle which sounds like something that prescription forgot to release back in the day! next up is broken document which delivers lovely warm analogue chords and pads interlaced with an 808 groove. the b-side starts off with do it using various samples to great effect to culminate in a unique deep house sound. finishing things off in much the same territory is from another angle which again brings the warm chords and pads, but also brings to the table some really delicate synth lines to create a surreal effect.

jeremy greenspan, best known as the singer for junior boys, presents his debut solo productions on caribou/daphnis jialong label. apparently the first of a few 12 inches for greenspan this year, this 1st edition is a stripped-down disco dedication. a-sides >crown princess< works with a paucity of elements - hi-hat/kick pattern and trickling, silvery arpeggios with a clear streak of jbs melodic magic. flipsides >guu< is more experimental, sounding something like a berghain residents offbeat b-side reduced for more hypnotic indie/disco appeal. another good twelve from this limited imprint - get in while you can.

gerardo frisina goes back to the roots of the sound which has made him famous worldwide: the latin sound of classics like >descarga< or >the latin kick< (both previously released on schema). >moderno primitivo< is an ep about the encounter of the ancient afro-cuban tradition (the core of frisinas artistic dna) with a refined electronic taste. this component enriches drums and percussions and gives more edge to the whole production with details like pads and effects. in >moderno primitivo< the latin ensemble headed by frisina takes us into a jam session where percussions, piano and trombone play happily. the latin house mix is a club version where the rhythmic element and the groove take control of the mix. the melody is broken and a hammond plays over a ostinato bass. the flavour is definitely tribal. >cogele el ritmo< is a trip into frisinas latin world. slower than >moderno primitivo<, still has a solid hook to the dance-floor and is a triumph of joy and colour.

the new ep from memoria comes from fast-rising romanian producer vid whose previous outings have come on labels including fear of flying and barraca music. vid (vidum) aka sorin rastoaca is a producer obsessed with nature and organic sounds. his latest release >rebirth<, is stripped but not light on feeling, and mines a vein somewhere between deep house and minimal techno. etime is a fluttery, eerie cut that works on many subtle layers. like the feathery minimal percussion of villalobos, the romanians sounds present like flapping butterfly wings as a kick drum punches out a varied pattern below. poem is a little louder and bolder, with a firm rolling kick drum and drunken, wubby sounds running right through its core. plenty of sonic details flesh out the languorous but slightly tribal groove. rebirth is again about little tiny details and how they evolve with time, but the framework they inhabit this time is deep, late-night house with gentle tinkles on keys coming over like a fluttering candle in the dark. 3729 gets its head down and mines a shifty, itching and tight minimal groove, closing out an ep which shows vid to be a master of working minimum sounds into maximum effects.

ladies and gentlemen, dear audience, 2012 is the year of boxer. and it has already been 10 years since frank martiniq came up with >adriano<. for boxer, this was a fantastic kick-start into the international and national music world, and up to now, you can still enjoy its traces engraved on the asphalt. we would like to celebrate this little, yet significant event—on vinyl and of course with you! with streamers, confetti, and with four artists which are particularly dear to us: robag wruhme, von spar, lexy/shades of gray and le dust sucker. an alluring aperitif to start 2012.

imugem orihasam, offers a deep and introspective relation ep continuing the sistrum tradition of quality underground sounds for the true appreciators. track a1 - relation sets the tone right away, with soothing strings guiding a classic rhythm section into hypnotic territory. slowly, a tapestry of delicate textures evolves around the beats - sure to be the soundtrack to many a late night dancefloor. close your eyes and get inside your mind with this one. track b1 - “mirage” continues down the path of hypnotic, deep techno laid out on relation, toughening up the beats just a bit, with a subby kick and crisp back beat that gives it some extra punch. swirling, phasing strings and metallic, ring modulated tones float above a sub bassline that is sure to make things rumble. this is pure love from japan. track b2 - overlap lights (p. scott edit) - sistrum’s main man, patrice scott, steps in to offer his interpretation of imugem’s “overlap lights,” bringing forth his signature ultra deep, slow building future/classic detroit sound. patrice’s edit is a warm, delicate, masterful arrangement of imugem’s tones and textures - there never seems to be too much going on, just enough to convey his intended message, ever-so-effectively. clutter is left by the wayside and the listener is left with the perfect palette of sonic delights.

we are extremely happy to kick off 2012 with the second release of good ratio music. after capturing the hearts of audiences worldwide with “money ep” from chasing kurt, it is time to warm up your senses with this emotional “one by one” by our friend tom ellis. a great 2012 starting for this new label runned by carlo and baldo. four evocative songs are composing by this ep which feels pretty organic and sensitive at the same time. you might be ready to embark in such an affecting voyage built upon those ever imperfect harmonies and natural rythm. without any apparent fear we can catalogue this ep in the mood of an experiment close to deep house. definitely it is coming from hundred of harmonic sounds and light melodies, everything mixed up with great sax samples and voices to go further than a dancefloor moving. in this way we need to say big thanks to michiel renger & sammy maine for their contributions in the sax and voice respectively. basically it will be a pleasure to make you feel captured over the clouds after the listening

funky and laid back jazz constructed house tracks with spacy dimension by dewalta. we are very happy to release such a fantastic long player which keeps alive our dear paris-berlin connection and our taste for subtle melange between jazz and house music. both tracks malbec and syrah will bring you far on the dancefloor like a good wine does with its fine and deep flavours of fruits and whatever it can tell about the history of its ground. david koch under his artist name dewalta persuades first on the a side with malbec. a dry clap introduces to the affair, short followed by a kick and a driving funky deep baseline which could be far enough to convince any dj fan of minimal hypnotic loops. having set up that strong base, he plays then carefully some light but brillant layers of jazzy arrangements. santé! syrah, follows up in a more trippy way performing a jazzy and elegant journey which destination is certainly somewhere in the cosmos. mastered and cutted by mike grinser at the berlin studio man made mastering.

new ep from berlin-based producer, artist, dj and head honcho of catenaccio records, benjamin fehr. this 1 inch highlights his commitment to >groove noir< - fehr s self-defined dark and psychedelic take on electronic music. the lead track, my lover lures the listener in with dark, minimal grooves, perfectly exemplifying fehr s hypnotic sound. the b-side puts the groove in groove noir, thumping out of the gate with a dark kick that builds and builds, punctuated by a single haunting piano key. on the scene since 1993, fehr started out with residencies at well-respected clubs such as robert johnson and the legendary kiosk. he s had a multitude of releases on well known labels, like foundsound, brouqade, lowmidhigh lmtd, tic tac toe, nervmusic, adjunct and many more. 2011 has kept fehr busy with the release of his ep, stay at home and read a book on his own label and upcoming remixes on eminor, nervmusic, suena hermosa, 3117 records, and leet.

from rome to glasgow through bavarian lands, analytic trail to forward its last project. the young frankyeffe comes from the success of his releases on labels like: remain records of axel karakasis, naked lunch of a.paul and kombination research of mr. cisco ferreira a.k.a. the advent. riot is the name of this ep made by four tracks, including remixes by harvey mckay and alex bau. first remixer comes from scotland with his debut album, machine make noise and the amazing project nightwalker on soma records. with starting his own label toneman back in 2000 alex bau also started to his soloproductions for labels like chris liebings clr and sleaze records with a great remix by alan fitzpatrick. riot has a straight kick, an obstinate synth reverbered in background and a sereies of short hihats. the track is mostly characterized from continuous aggressive snares that making an hard groove and all is surrounded by a fat bassline, old school techno style.

robosonic return in full effect with the stunning and beautiful >the sweetness<, after a brief hiatus with regards to original releases the berlin duo present this unique track to the masses via jackmode.
j phlip takes the remix duties head on with a great interpretation, the american dj and producer shows her flair for all things bass with a track drenched in low-end loveliness. a tough kick underpins a hypnotic loop that rolls out into a spacious breakdown. the final drop doesnt disappoint, big drums and dark percussion make this new version a surefire dancefloor work out.

after a break for over a year pattern repeat is back again with another two tracks on their own label. both kenneth & resoe has been really busy last year, so it has been difficult to meet up in the studio. but now they had the time to finish two tracks of deep dirty techno from the capitol of denmark copenhagen. again they set it of with raw dirty dub infected grooves and the a side starts up right away with the dub elements intact, and then keeps building through the rest of the track. after the short break a hypnotic atmosphere kicks off in best pattern repeat style. the b side starts slowly with an almost alfred hitchcock kind of atmosphere, with a dull kick underneath. the track keeps gettin more dirty through the 6 min. and 15 secs. it last, with more distortion added to the dub stabs. its a good way that kenneth & resoe returns since the last 12 inch they put out in december 2010, to set the stage for 2012.
